I just upgraded to Numbers 3.0 but can´t open files of Numbers 9, help...!!!!!!
Can someone please help me, because those files in Numbers 9 version, are for my work and now I can´t open them

Hi rabg,
I am using OS X 10.8 on a Mac. This may be different if you are using iOS.
Does Numbers'09 still exist in your Applications folder? Maybe inside a new folder? Perhaps you could use Numbers'09 to open your documents.
Regards,
Ian.

  • I just upgraded to Photos and now I can't open my iPhoto Library in Photos OR iPhoto. How do I get my photos back?!?

I recently updated to the new Photos and when I went to import my library into Photos, it wouldn't let me.  Kept throwing errors.  I followed the suggested fixes using the terminal regarding permissions, but that didn't work.  I decided to just go back to using iPhoto, but when I opened that it wouldn't see my library either.  I tried copying it to an external hard drive and opening that, but it didn't work.  I can browse for it and see it on my computer but it's grayed out and I'm unable to select it.  Please help.  I'm terrified I lost all those photos.

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Indesing updated to latest version (10.0) but can't open file created yesterday.

Created a file yesterday with Indesign. Wanted to continue work today but Indesign requests to update to 10.0. I updated allready I even created this file with this version with this edition of Indesign but can't open it anyway.
    - Alert shown is: Cannot open "[documentname]" because it was saved with a newer version of Adobe InDesign CC (10.0). You must use that version or later to open the file. To then enable it to be opened in this version, choose Save As InDesign CS4 or later, or export to IDML. -
So to be clear; I created this document in this version of Indesign and it just doesn't open anymore although all possible updates are performed.
Am really in need of some help since it is about two documents and I just lost work like this...
    Kind regards,
    Linda

Aaaaaaahhhhh....FOUND IT!! The trick is to NOT use the alias-thumb in the dock, but to actually start up in the apps-folder where the Adobe Indesign 2014 edition is installed next to the 'old' edition.
Wow. Not sure to feel stupid or to be angry... pffff...
Back to work I say! (The best remedy...)

  • I just bought a new Canon 50D but can't open my raw files in Adobe CS4 Bridge or Photoshop.

The files show up as CR2 files and I get a message saying "could not complete your request because it is the wrong kind of document.  I run on Windows XP.  I would appreciate your help.

what url?I dont know what you are talking about...
I posted the directions already about an hour ago.
Just for the heck of it: click on HELP and PLUG INS and see if CAMERA RAW is listed.
    * I can almost guarantee its not even listed* but if it is, whatever, don't worry yet*
    Here are the directions again.
download latest plug in for camera raw (go to adobe) go to DOWNLOADS
(go to downloads and it should be the first download they have listed)
    save on desk top
    open
click on the 'file' for Adobe (should be first icon listed)
then you need to put THAT PLUG IN
into your NON 64 bit PS
(it should be listed under programs as Adobe Photo Shop CS4 and Adobe Photshop (64 bit)
    Click on START
    COMPUTER
    C Drive
    Program Files
    common files
    adobe
    plug ins
    CS4
    file formats
    RIGHT CLICK ON PLUG IN
PUT PLUG IN ON DESK TOP *SAVE IT JUST IN CASE*
RIGHT CLICK ON PLUG IN YOU OPENED IN THE ZIP FILE YOU DOWNLOADED ON TO YOUR DESK TOP
DROP NEW PLUG IN IN FILE YOU HAVE OPEN
    CLOSE
    RE OPEN PS 32 BIT
AND YOU SHOULD SEE IT UNDER HELP/PLUG INS / CAMERA RAW
AND YOU WILL BE ABLE TO OPEN YOUR FILES JUST FINE
AND OPEN THEM IN BRIDGE TOO
If it doesn't work, I suggest calling me and I can help you. If you are worried about me having your number just hit *67 and then 1, and then my area code and phone number* I have no alterior motives as I was simply in the same boat you are in now and I am just trying to help.
The download is a simple download, but if you put it in the wrong file, you can REALLY mess up your CS4 capabilites. which is why I specifically wanted to help you and walk you thru it step by step.
I hope I didn't leave anything out. Like I said, easier to tell someone on the phone so I can hear what it is you are looking at on your system so I can walk u thru it  is all.

  • HT4528 I upgraded my 4 to 4s but can't open safari at home

"Safari cannot open the page. The operation cannot be completed. Cannot allocate memory." Wi-Fi is not connecting at home with upgraded 4s.

Sounds like you might be out of memory.  Try turning off the phone and then turn it back on.  To turn off hold the sleep button down untill you can slide the red bar to turn it off.  Wait about 60 seconds untill it is compleatly off. Last hold the sleep button till the apple logo apears.  After it is rebooted see it you can load your page then. Hope that helps.

  • [SOLVED] Samba: Can browse shared folders, but can't open files

Hi all, I've been using Samba to share some folders from my Arch box over the local network, and have not had any issues until just now. As the title says, I am able to browse (via Samba, both on a different device and from the Arch box itself) the folders being shared as well as see their contents, but trying to open a file fails, as does attempting to create a file in one of the shared folders. Accessing the files from the computer itself directly (not via Samba) works fine.
The error given by Thunar when trying to create a file is simply:
Failed to create empty file "test file".
    Invalid argument.
Trying to read a file results in the same "invalid argument" error being given by the app that should open the file.
I've removed Samba and reinstalled, following the steps on the wiki to get it set up. Still have the issue.
Further, I only seem to be able to add shares via the smb.conf file - previously I was able to share folders via Thunar or the net usershare command, but now those also give an error:
    $ net usershare add tmp /tmp "tmp" everyone:F guest_ok=y
net usershare add: cannot convert name "everyone" to a SID. Undetermined error.
Any ideas on what could be causing the problems would be greatly appreciated!
    edit: my smb.conf file:
    # This is the main Samba configuration file. You should read the
    # smb.conf(5) manual page in order to understand the options listed
    # here. Samba has a huge number of configurable options (perhaps too
    # many!) most of which are not shown in this example
    # Any line which starts with a ; (semi-colon) or a # (hash)
    # is a comment and is ignored. In this example we will use a #
    # for commentry and a ; for parts of the config file that you
    # may wish to enable
    # NOTE: Whenever you modify this file you should run the command "testparm"
    # to check that you have not made any basic syntactic errors.

It seems your Samba is denying access to these files & dirs. My best guess would be that either the Samba user is not allowed to write (and read) those (in which case you'd have to modify the permissions accordingly) or Samba sets, when the share is mounted, the permissions such that your user is not allowed to read and write (you may in this case try to just set permissions for you to allow you what you want to do; or use "create mask" or "directory mask" or "writable" in your samba config. ).
Also, what do the logs say about this? According to your samba conf they are in /var/log/samba/%m.log where %m is the hostname or IP.

  • How can I reinstall FF? I tried to upgrade to FF4. Now I can not open FF at all. Please help!!!

I tried to upgrade to FF4. When I dragged the icon to my applications folder it had a circle with a slash through it. The new version replaced my previous 3.6... version and now I can not open FF at all. Instead of opening I get a msg saying "The app FF cannot be launched -10661" Please help!!!
I need to reinstall FF but I am concerned that if I scrap FF4 I will lose all my bookmarks & add-ons. I am a web designer. Hope you can help.

You supply little pertinent about the MBP and the iPhone.

I put a .rta document from my iPad into Dropbox. Now I can't open it on my Mac, but the message says the file can't be read. Does anyone know how to do this?

I don't believe you put the correct file in dropbox.

  • Numbers -installed new version, now can't open files saved in new version - ???

I said yes to upgrading a file to newer version, and now it says I need newer version to open that file. When I go to apps, it says the new version has already been installed. Any suggestions?

    Hi cretzlaff,
If you check About Numbers (first items in the Numbers menu) when it fails to open a documents, I suspect you will find that it is Numbers 2.3 that is attempting to open the file.
The instaler for the new version creates a new folder, names it iWork 09, places it in the Applications folder, and moves the existing iWork '09 applications into that folder. It does NOT delete them from your machine (and you should consider carefully before taking that step yourself).
The new versions are then installed directly into the Applications Folder.
    Suggested actions:
In Finder, open the Applications folder, locate Numbers.
Select the icon for Numbers and drag it to the Dock to install an alias to the new version there.
Note the differences between the icons for Numbers '09 and the new Numbers (one more bar, and different colours).
(Repeat with Pages and Keynote, it you have also installed the new versions of those.)
The new version of Numbers has several significant improvements, particularly in regard to compatibility with Numbers for iOS and Numbers for iCloud, but it has also lost several useful features that were present in the earlier version.
You may want to keep both available, at least for now, and use whichever version has the features you need for a particular job.
You can specify which version is to open a document by:
right-clicking on its icon then choosing Open with > and the application you want to use
dragging the document's icon to the Docked icon of the Numbers version you want to use and dropping it there.
launching the application version and opening the document from the File > Open menu path
Note that once opened by and saved from Numbers 3, a document cannot be opened by Numbers '09 unless it is exported from Numbers 3 in Numbers '09 format.

  • Latest update already installed but can't open file

I have recently downloaded the latest update for Pages (version 5.2), and my Appstore updates pages confirm this by showing "installed" but when I go to open a Pages documents, I get a message saying I need a newer version of Pages to open the file.  Then when I open up my Pages, despite the appearance being that of the latest version (ie. starting with the iCloud window), when I check on my "about Pages", sure enough, it says my version is only 4.2.  I'm completely at a loss as to what I should do?  It was working fine for days after I had downloaded the latest version.  But because my kid had stuffed up my desktop and deleted one of my folders, I went to the time machine to restore.  Is that what caused the problem?

Pages 5.x is in the Appliations folder
Pages 4.2 is in the Applications/iwork 09 folder
You have to make sure you are opening the documents in the right version. I know it is confusing as the icon on the documents all shows Pages 5 icon.
