I just want a music player

It seems there are so many problems with itunes the "Advice People" can't keep up .
I don't use an iPod or buy music from the store .
I got iTunes when it was just a cool music player and that's all I want . With every new version there seems to be nothing but problems and now my version is so old there's no documentation available for it .
Does anybody know of another player without all the iTunes baggage ?

You know, the only people who come to the fora are
people who have problems, and the occasional one who
is willing to offer help. So, judging anything by
what you see here is like going to your local
Emergency Room to assess the health of the Community.
Good point.
For what it's worth, I have successfully updated
iTunes all the way from when it was first released
without a single hitch any time. I have a 100GB
library on an external HD, three iPods synced to it,
Album Art, the whole nine yards. The only problem
I've ever had was when I accidently deleted
the Library. And then deleted the backup. Learned a
lot about File Recovery.
It seems the library system is a major problem with many users and I suspect it has something to do with ipods and the music store and DRM and anything to do with copying music . Like why can't I import my mp3 backup discs directly into iTunes ? I know there are ways around this , that seems to be the way everything is in iTunes and I imagine with video and radio it's twice as complicated . I could probably fix things if I had access to 4.7 articles . What's that about ? Is it to force you to upgrade ?
Some people have genuine problems on these boards, a
lot more have issues that can be resolved by reading
the Help file - ideally before trying
something. But most people who have installed iTunes
have no problems at all.
That said, if you're looking for a simple mp3 player,
do a search on http://www.macupdate.com using mp3
player as your search term. It'll give more than 50
options.
The problem with that is most searches come up with little mp3 devices like the ipod .
I found one player (or perhaps juck-box that I may try called AUDIONhttp://www.panic.com/audion/ >

Thank you for your time TD . I appreciate your help .

This is true of course, but doesn't cover the situation where some files are in the iTunes Media folder and others are on an external drive. In my case I keep my music in the Media folder and all my films on an external drive (there are too many to have on the internal drive). In iTunes 11, and before, it was easy to add those external files by holding down the alt/opt key while dragging to the sidebar. In iTunes 12 this is no longer possible. There are several workarounds: use TuneSpan to move the file after it's been added; delete the file from the Media folder and empty the trash then use iTunes Get Info which will report the file is missing and allow you to locate it; constantly switch the Add to iTunes toggle on and off as required. All of these require a lot more work than just holding down the alt/opt key while adding.
    It constantly gets harder.

Can someone please just help me figure out how to update this stupid phone(iPhone 4)without losing anything? I somehow have more than one Apple ID on this, but I just want my music and my pictures to stay and I'm terrified of losing these things. I have a lot of music from old CDs on here, and for some reason I can't even transfer them manually onto my computer. I'm not tech savvy whatsoever. Someone please help, having my music is the the whole reason I still have this phone.

    First read about back http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Then  read on how to transfer photos to your computer http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3195
    Then
    UPDATING iOS
Over the air updating of iOS needs iOS 5 or later so unless you have iOS 5 or later you will not see updating in setting
The following link explains how to update http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972

  • How do I remove all traces of  'album'? I do not want artwork, blank place holders, titles or artists sorted by album? I just want my music listed by title, artist or genre.

1, you can't at the moment, though with iOS 5 in the Autumn, from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos :
Even organize your photos in albums — right on your device
2, by removing it from you synced from and re-syncing. Only photos taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites etc can be deleted directly on the iPad (either via the trashcan icon in the top right corner if viewing the photo in full screen, or via the icon of the box with the arrow coming out of it in thumbnail view)
3, the location of the photos that you synced to the iPad should be listed on the iPad's Photos tab when connected to your computer's iTunes.
4, you can copy the photos from your iPad to your computer : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083 . You should also be able to delete them from the iPad as part of the transfer process to your computer, and it's then your choice whether to add them to your sync photo list so as to copy them back to the iPad. Copying them to your computer would allow you to organise them into folders and therefore be able to sync them back into separate albums.
5, I don't use Dropbox either. There are some third-party browser apps in the iTunes App Store that allow you to download pages so that you can view them when offline e.g. Atomic Web (the whole page is saved within Atomic Web, it doesn't place a photo into the Photos app)
6, deleting content should help. If you remove an app from your iPad then you also remove the content that it's got on the iPad - so if you then decide to reinstall it back onto the iPad then you will need to manually add back any content that you want in it. None of the Apple built-in apps (including Photos) can be removed from the iPad

  • ITunes Match just added old purchased songs, I don't want those songs anymore. I just want my music to be iTunes quality.

I purchased iTunes Match, and all I noticed that it did was pull songs I purchased from iTunes many years ago. Songs that I don't want anymore. I just want songs that weren't purchased from iTunes to get uploaded and converted to better quality. Did iTunes do this for me, and I just didn't see it? Or did I purchase something, and didn't get the expected results? How can I get iTunes to upload and convert my lower quality music?
    iTunes 10.5.3.3 on a PC.

    That's odd for sure.
Anyway, first set the iPod to manage the songs manually.
Then, select the iPod in the source list of iTunes, and click on the "music" option underneath it to show all your songs. Highlight the song(s) you no longer want on the iPod, right click and select "clear". The songs should be deleted from the iPod.
Now you can change the iPod back to your auto sync preference.

  • I just bought a new computer, now itunes tells me I can only sync with one computer.  It only offers me the choice to erase and sync.  I do not want to erase my ipod, I just want my music on the new computer.  Can't I just transfer the songs from the ipod

I just bought a new computer.  Itunes only offers me the option of erase and sync, as I can only have it sync'd with one computer.  I want to move my music to this computer from my ipod.  Is this possible, or do I have to go back to my cds and upload everything from there?  I just want to be able to move my music from my ipod to the new computer.

You need to transfer your iTunes Library from the old computer to the new one - then you can carry on syncing as normal. You can't move non-purchased music from an iPod to iTunes using iTunes. For purchased music, choose iTunes > File > Transfer purchases...

  • My iphone will not sync to my itunes library. Everytime I try it says that it can't sync because the apps installed cannot be determined. I don't care about the apps I just want my music! Help!

When I try to sync my iphone to my itunes it starts going through the steps and then just stops. A little ! shows up beside my iphone under the devices tab in my itunes, when I click on this it the says that 'Itunes cannot sync apps to the Iphone because the apps cannot be determined'

If all you want right now is your music, you can turn off the option to sync apps, that should help.
With your iPhone plugged in, open iTunes, and go to the page with details about your phone (on the left side of iTunes, it should be under the Devices header). When you are there, go to the top, click on the "Apps" tab (next to "Info"), then uncheck the box that says sync apps.

  • I have a brandnew 7th gen classic ipad, it does not read in my itunes anymore. i bought it cause apple was suppose to be good, now i am lost as i just want my music, any help. tried the rec. steps to fix it and nothing

let em elaborate more, the unit is less than 5months old, i bought it just for music, i use to have a lot of cds, well it does not read anynore in my computer nor the itunes programe, i reset it, i put it to disk mode, i down loaded the newest itunes program, i want to know how to fix this as i paid apple good money for a product that died after 5months, for real.
this is bad business and i need some help

Does the iPod work okay otherwise apart from not being able to connect with and communicate with iTunes?
Have you tried connecting the iPod to another PC or Mac running iTunes to see if it is properly recognized there?
Is iTunes up to date on your PC?  Does it appear in Device Manager when you plug it in? To access Device Manager, click start, right->click on Computer (or My Computer in Windows XP) and choose Manage.  When the window opens, select Device Manager in the left hand pane if necessary.
Any unknown devices listed or does the iPod appear anywhere under USB Host Controllers?

  • I just want itunes music and database to be on external HD not internal

What am I doing wrong. I have itunes music library on my external HD and my itunes preferences say that my itunes music folder location is just that. It's about 41 GB. Ok, but why on my system drive is there an itunes folder in the default user music folder and it is 7 GB and there are certain titles in there that did not make it to the external. The database files are in there as well. Shouldn't everything be located in the external itunes music folder including the database files ? How do I have itunes automatically update the external HD folder and put the database files in there as well and stop using the internal system drive for storage and database.

I did that a while ago. But now it seems there are 7 GB of stray files. Is there a sync feature that moves only the itunes files that are outside the designated itunes folder, in my case they are living on the system drive for some reason...

  • IPhone sync - I just want my music on the go

My iPhone takes 3+ hours to sync ever since I upgraded my firmware to 2.0.x. I used to enjoy buying songs from iTunes then sync it before I head out. I no longer can do this because it takes hours to backup, copy, etc. before it gets to the syncing part. (This happens everytime I sync.)
I know this topic's been discussed a million times over on the internet. But this makes my iPhone as a mp3 player useless and there seems to be no supported fix for it.
If there is an official fix from apple or one is planned I'd love to hear about it. Otherwise I'm planning to shop around... I need my music in less than 20min. I don't think that's too much to ask.

    Hey RobRobRob,
What version of the iPhone software is running on the iPhone? Go to Settings> General> About.
Make sure the iPhone is directly connected to a high speed USB port on the PC.

  • I just want my music. I need customer support.

I put $30 in gift cards into my account and still can't purchase the two songs I want....
    <Edited by Host>

That gives us a bit more info.
Hopefully now some expert on using iTunes and buying music will be able to contribute a solution.  In the meantime ---
Let us see if we have all the relevant facts -- you have a $30 iTunes gift card ?  You have a US address and Apple ID ?

  • I just want my music back.

    Allllright.
So iTunes has been deleting my library every time I open it, and I'd really like to have my music back. So I went to bestbuy last night and bought Tunes Plus (I was assured that this would work), and of course..it doesn't.
My problem is that the software reads my iPod, and knows that there are songs on there, and it's just not showing up. I know my iPod has to be enabled for disk use, and I did that.
Has anyone used Tunes Plus or know of a program that actually works?
(I have a video iPod and windows XP)
    THANKS.

  • Send error report? No! I just want my music!

"iTunes has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." Every time i click on iTunes it asks me if i want to send an error report. I doesn't even tell me what type of error it's having.I tried reinstalling iTunes and the same thing kept happening. Any ideas?

    Hello Julie,
Your songs and iTunes balance are fine, they are not influenced by the iTunes applications or any issues it may have. The message you are experiencing indicates the folder where iTunes is saved has changed, or no longer exists. Since you are using a shortcut (a link to where the application iTunes is installed) and you're getting this message, it means the iTunes application is not where it used to be located.
I would suggest trying to reinstall iTunes from www.apple.com/itunes and let us know if you encounter any errors messages.
