I recently got the iPhone and am having problems getting to the webpage to logon to my school to access their free internet. Now, with my MacBook, I simply click on safari and it takes me to the page to type in my user name and passwork for the school network, but with my iPhone, it just won't connect..... PLEASE HELP! I really need this to work at school!
Both your Real memory and Virtual memory are 4GB (memory limit for 32-bit memory) and your used memory is pushing that limit. I suspect you are running in 32-bit mode, which limits you to using only 4 GB of memory, regardless of how much you have installed!
If you are running OS X 10.6 and above, boot your Mac to 64-bit by holding the 6 and 4 numeral keys while you Power or Restart.
You can check if you are running 64-bit mode or not by checking About this Mac>More Info>Software
The entry named 64-bit Kernel and Extension says NO for 32-bit mode and YES for 64-bit mode.
If your default mode is 32-bit mode, you have to hold down the 6 an 4 key everythingyou want to boot to 64-bit mode!
Search for "making 64-bit the default mode for OS X" for Terminal command to execute to make that happen.

Probably other people have a same problem since the new version updated. So much times in a day just freezout Firefox and than I have to restart. Even doesn't matter how much page I have opened. Sometimes 4-6 somtimes 10-12, but come on this is the NEW FAST AND GREAT version that's shouldn't be a problem for this! A 2003 iMac cannot support Snow Leopard 10.6; you'd need an Intel processor and that cannot be retrofitted to your Mac. What does "About this Mac" in your Apple menu say for your processor speed? What does it say about how much RAM you have?
If the processor is 1ghz or faster, you can run OS 10.5; otherwise, you are maxed out at 10.4.11.
Also, are you running any commercial ("pay for") anti-virus or security software? They are notorious for slowing most Macs to a fraction of their speed potential.
A too-full hard drive can drag down performance, especially if you don't have a lot of physical RAM installed. If you single-click your hard drive icon and then do command i, you'll see the disk usage. Looks like this:
The value for "Used" should be no more than about 90 percent of "Capacity." In the example image, that drive has about 34 percent of its space used and 66 percent free--more than enough. Please post what you see for your Capacity and Used numbers
There are a few more things we might check but this is a good start.

I don't really think so. But lots of people are disturbed by even small scratches, so get one. The bit you don't want to scratch is the screen, but it's pretty scratch resistant. If you want, you could get a cover for this bit only:

Yes you will, as the headphone recess is non-standard. Griffin and Belkin make adapters you can use.

Title says it all.
I'm really getting sick of websites getting more and more into your business. Google forcing you to get a G+ account and asking for your identifying information, for example (like your phone number).
It's extremely irritating, and I'm opting out of everything that enforces the such. If Apple begins pushing like this, I will just close my relationship with the company and obtain apps by using third-party software to force them onto the phone.
But before going that far, I'd like to find work arounds.
First of all, I don't even know why it asks me for my "state". I don't even live in the USA anymore, as I moved to China (though I won't use the Chinese store as I don't speak or understand the local language, which is Chinese).
All I want... is to continue using the English App Store to get free apps from here in my home in China, without getting stopped by Apple asking for more info on me. I don't want to share my name, I don't want to share my address, and I can't even complete the form as I no longer have a "state" and don't have any credit info.
So that's just that. If there's no way around it I'll find another way to install apps without the App Store.
Sorry for the message tone, I'm just really irritated with the way the internet is getting.

I'm an expat and it seems that these sites aren't really expat-friendly. They seem to be built for localization and assume everyone stays in the same place.
I don't know what I'd be considered. I'm a US passport holder and live in China, but I only speak some Chinese and I can't read it (it using non-latin characters is just too much for my mind's memory to handle). Besides that, I'm not interested in popular Chinese apps. They tend to just be annoying and kooky and generic and put together badly, often full adware and spyware (speaking for most Chinese software, in fact). In fact, a lot of apps I want are illegal in China (YouTube, Facebook, etc) and I use a VPN to use the services. I assume I wouldn't find these apps on the Chinese store. In fact, last I checked, there wasn't many English apps on the Chinese app store. This is probably due to their strict moderation or something.
I've been going to international schools since I got here and college would be in English too. I can speak some Chinese, but not read it.
Well, I guess the answer is that I can't use the App Store in English. So I guess I'll just sign out everything on my phone involving my Apple account and just start using third-party tools to do my business. -
Lost phone by transit...I just want my phone back
Ok so my iphone 5s which was in top condition because i went out and bought an otter box. So over time i released i started having problems with my speakers. For example: if i put my phone on my speaker the person on the other side could not hear me. So i checked my warranty and since i got the phone in January its still covered. The phone is an gold edition iphone 5s. I called apple and they sent me a box where i could place my phone in and ship it back to apple. Now i have done this many times before with my other iphones because for some reason i always get broken iphones without softwares. So i get the box on 09/13/2014 and on Tuesday night which goes to Wednesday mail time 9/17/2014 my phone is in the mail place waiting to be shipped. Now i go online 9/21/201 and see that for the service request is still on step 1. Now as i noted i have done this plenty of times before with apple and i have gotten a replacement/returned phone within three days. So since it hasnt moved from step one i was worried and contacted apple. They have no information on my phone or where it might be at all. Fedex has no idea where my phone might be. My apartment has had no returned products back to my place. So i contact apple again and apparently their customer service has no online chat you have to call. Thing is i dont have a phone and cant borrow one. CAN SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME GET MY PHONE BACK, MY LITTLE MIND TOLD ME NOT TO SEND IT IN BUT I DID ANYWAY AND NOW IM STUCK WITHOUT A PHONE AND APPLE DOESNT CARE. If so, simply go to Fedex (or whatever carrier it was) and check that tracking number and/or call them to ask what happened to it. And/or you do have the record of Apple sending you an email about the matter?
If Fedex (or Apple) has no record and you do not have any proof that you shipped it, I don't believe that anyone can do anything. Not sure if your home insurance would cover this - probably not, but it's worth a phone call. -
I have an old file with an .A4P video from 1999. I don't own any Adobe products (and don't really want to buy any). I just want to be able to convert the file to something that I can actually view. Any help?
I was a kid when I made a documentary for a school project. I've been trying to figure out how to retrieve the file. 4 years ago, I was able to get the files off the Iomega Zip drive (finally), but I now see the file is saved as a .A4P. There is also a file saved as a .PKG as well, but I don't know how to open this with my Windows 8 COmputer..a4p is an Authorware v.4 (Windows) project.
Interesting you have it as a .pkg...usually that's a published-on-a- Mac extension, if I recall.
At any rate, can you put the file up on a Box, Dropbox, FTP, etc...and send me a URL?
I should be able to published it so you can view the project (it would be an .exe).
It can't be converted to anything though - not without manual effort. -
If I'm reading a book on the iPhone and I want to pick up where I left off on my iPad, do I have to search for what page I was on on the iPad or is there a way to sync it? Or do I just have to search for a string of text from my iPhone on my iPad?
On both devices go to Settings>iBooks>Sync Bookmarks>On. Then when you want to quit reading on one device, tap the bookmark in the upper right corner and it will turn red. That marks your place. Close the book on the device now by tapping on the Library button in the upper left corner of the app. That will put the closed book back on the shelf. Tap the home button.
On the other device, when you tap on the book, it should open to that page. You have to be connected to WiFi in order for this to work. You can read this older discussion for more information. I was involved in that as well.

Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Either they're being sent to a different email address, or got caught in a spam filter, or something's wrong at Apple's end. If you can't find the email, you need to ask Apple to reset your security questions, which can be done by phoning AppleCare and asking for the Account Security team, or clicking here and picking a method, or if your country isn't listed in either article, filling out and submitting this form.

Want to pick old files first (First In First Out mode)

My scenario is File to Idoc Scenario getting multiple files in batch mode into source FTP server. But i want to pick which file has first loaded into ftp server that particular file only i want to process first.
my source file name doesn't contain any Timestamp value . but by considering the FTP server timings we have to pick the file.
From the source I'm getting files like ( Jain_1.xml , Jain_2.xml ,Jain_3.xml.... ect...) so in my sender adapater i have mentioned that file name as Jain.xml*
For picking earliest file suggest me some solution.
for this how can achive this. and what are the things we have to do.

I havent exactly tried doing this one. I used file*.txt once but i didn't need it to pick in any order. My scenario had to pick all the files...

Read the above link Jain. File adapter does not give a processing sequence for FTP protocol.
But it reads files in alphabetical order. So you have 2 choices.
1> Either use NFS to run your scenarios
2> Else rename your files to Jain_a.xml, Jain_b.xml, Jain_c.xml. This way they will be in alphabetical order and hence will be picked in the order you want.
If you want to rename your files dynamically at runtime. Look at the variable substitution concept.

What is the best way to configure my time capsule if I just want to use it for storage?
I have a time capsule that I just want to use as backup storage - I don't need it for accessing the internet. What is the best way to set it up? I just tried and it seems to override my normal internet WLAN, which isn't what I want. If I re-insate the existing WLAN, presumably the backup won't happen automatically on the time capsule. Any insights very welcome!!
DaveTo work as a backup location the TC has to be part of the existing network.
The best way to achieve that is to plug the TC into the existing modem router and put it in bridge mode.
Apple lately have tried to force people to use the TC as the main router.. and the setup via airport utility pushes you in that direction but it is wrong.
You bridge it and use it as storage.. that is fine.. Simply turn off the wireless if you prefer to use the existing wireless, although for Macs the TC will often work better and you can pick up internet through it at the same time.
With access by wireless you cannot have two separate networks. If you try to do that, then you will have one connection with internet and no backup.. and another connection for backup with no internet and be forced to swap between the two.. do not do this!!
You can even setup wireless as roaming.. so same name and security and password as your existing modem router.. and allow the computer to determine which is the best signal to join. -

You need to ask Apple to reset your security questions; ways of contacting them include clicking here and picking a method for your country, and filling out and submitting this form.

Claudius,either you didn't read my post, or you jumped to conclusions. I had a skype account that was created using a microsoft account (NOT THE ACCOUNT I AM USING NOW). PURE MICROSOFT ACCOUNT NO OTHER ACCOUNT LINKING.I had to change the primary mail of that account.I was told "no can do" by skype support.I found that if I went to account settings and clicked on the link on the line below the one that said "MICROSOFT etc" (labeled something along the lines of "TV or Device") I got the opportunity to set the password of the "live:username" account (WHICH YOU COINCIDENTALLY HAVE TO DO IF YOU WANT TO USE SMART TVs ETC).Once that was done, I COULD SUCCESSFULLY DO WHAT SKYPE SUPPORT SAID WAS IMPOSSIBLE- I could change the primary mail address. once that was done, and NOT BEFORE, I linked the account to a facebook account as well, just to be sure I have more than one way to access the skype account.
