I just want to save my photos- why is this so fraught with danger?

Many of you must have had this problem: iPhoto is full (I currently have over 2,500 images in there) .. and it is really slow to open and operate. The solution seems to be to empty out contents - copying them to an external HD or onto my iPod being used as an external hard drive. But my Firelite HD has a"Back-up express" feature ... and surely when it comes to read an empty iPhoto, that is what it will transfer to the copy on the Hard Drive? Isn't there a simple and safe way to put my precious photos out of danger, so that I can move on with my life!!??

I have my external partitioned. One partition is where I have Super Duper! sync my User's folder. The other partition is where I manually copy all my dated Photo folders and dated video clip folders, and backup iPhoto libraries.
By the way, with only 2,500 images in your iPhoto library, it should not be that slow. I do think that it is best to have smaller libraries for speed though.
To backup the library just copy the iPhoto Library folder to the external (partition it if necessary) Once it is on a separate partition you can then launch iPhoto with the Option key depressed until you get a message to create or open another library. Navigate to the external and highlight the iPhoto Library folder and click "open". When iPhoto opens the library make sure all is fine.
Now close iPhoto.
Navigate to your Pictures folder and delete the iPhoto Library folder. It would be a good idea to burn the entire folder first so you now have two backups, one on DVD and one on the external.
Now Option launch iPhoto and this time choose to create a new library.
iPhoto will now use this new library to import photos to.

My external Lacie Hard drive that contains the IPhoto library is a "locked volume." Wow, now it is suddenly letting me copy it. I dragged the library's icon to the new destination (a 3T hard drive) and it is working so far.
I have also had problems copying my IMovie events from this drive, whose data I'm trying to save. It reaches a certain video and stops. I will delete that video and try again.

Below "Keep copies of messages for offline viewing:" select Only messages I've read.

I have iphone 5 and itunes on my windows laptop. Recently i back-uped my iphone and started using my iphone as a new one. But all the photos were in the back-up. So i just want to restore the photos. Since my laptop is windows, i cant get them by iphotos.
I was thinking that if i can sync just the photos to my iphone from by back-up, i can get the photos from iphone by transfering the files to my laptop.But i couldnt figure out how to sync just the "photos" of the whole back-up.
Do you have a better idea for getting the pics from the back-up? If not, can you help me by the option i suggested?

If you want to restore data from a backup to your iPhone, you will need to restore the full backup, as you cannot select what items to be restored to an iPhone.

The US Apple Store accepts US-issued credit cards only. And they will ship only to a US address. Whether or not a physical Apple Store would accept a Lebanese credit card I don't know.

I just want to organize my photos to albums and not appear anywhere else. Photos appear in Photos and no indication if they have been dealt with.

I want to load my photos onto my MacBook Pro, sort them into albums and not have them appear in other locations. If I go to Photos all of the photos in the computer seem to appear. I can't tell if they have been put in an Album or have been edited. Is there a simpler system that I can use.

iPhoto works similarly to iTunes. In iTunes, every track is in the Library and each playlist is a sub-set of the Library.
So, in iPhoto, every image is in the Library and each Album is a subset of the Library. So, your photos will always be visible in the Library and in any album you use them in. That - of course - means that any image can ne used in a multitude of albums, and use no extra disk space. So that shot of your son, daughter and their puppy can be in the Son album, Daughter album, Puppy Album and even a favourites album.
Photos and Events are simply two views of the Library - two doors to the same room as it were.
It's easy to find photos not in an Album - with a Smart Album:
File -> New Smart Album
Album -> is not -> any
and another will find Photos not editoed:
File -> New Smart Album
Photo -> is -> Edited.
As you edit a photo, or add it to an album, they will be dropped from the Smart Album.

This really isn't a MacBook Pro question but a general question. I can't seem to find any threads on this subject. I currently have a macbook pro and recently migrated everything to a MacBook Air. My mail did not transfer over which is not a big deal, however, I do want to save my mail to a harddrive or disks before I wipe it. Both machines are using Maverick. Both machines are using mail 7.1. In the old days I would export and burn to CD, but I don't know Maverick. Does anyone have the simple steps to complete this correctly?

What email provider is it? Google, Hotmail, Outlook?

When i save my photos to a usb and take them to a photo shop to print it's telling me there are no photos on file. I think i'm exporting them correctly to the usb because when i open the usb on my computer there are photos showing up. i also tried this with a cd but still no photos were being read on it. i have taken the usb to 3 different photo shops and its saying the same thing "no photos found". I'm saving them as a JPEG file, Is there a different format these are suppose to be saved as?

Have you tried reading them on a Windows based computer? Could you have formatted the USB stick and CD for Macintosh only?
Did you use the finder, preview or iPhoto to verify the pictures on the media? You might have saved a little iPhoto library that other software may not understand.

I sorted my worksheet and it saved the sort without asking if I wanted to save it! How did this happen?

I opened an existing spreadsheet, sorted one of the columns, then closed it out so I could open it and it would no longer be sorted (the sort screwed up all my headings), and the sort was saved! Why did it save my sort without asking if I wanted to save the changes?
