I just went through the "Gee my entire MAX config/database has dissapeared" process again with a customer and want to ask...

How do you guys keep customers out of MAX? (with systems that require its install)
In my experience I;ve even causeed this problem just by opening MAX, and forgetting that it's open before the machine either loses power or gets shutdown improperly...  sometimes you get the error telling you its corrupted (there's loads of posts about that, with a KB article walkthrough too) but other times I've found the VISA network connection totally vanished with no sign of ever existing... then to be stuck trying to walk someone through a manual reconfig or loading a nce file...
Is there something we can do to prevent this issue?
Is it arrogant to ask why this database corruption seems to happen fairly often even with new versions of MAX?
thx

At least the fix is muc better now than it used to be. NI now has it integrated into max to clea the database and rebuild it. This used to be a seperate macro that had to be found first and then run and didn't always fix the problem. With the latest revs of MAX it is much better and easier to find in the pull down menu instead of a web search on NI site.

Tried purchasing music from the iTunes Store. When the window popped up I put in my apple id and password. Then I was directed to a 'Terms and Conditions' page. I checked the box next to the 'Yes I agree to these terms and conditions' - then clicked the 'accept' button next page read 'Your Session has timed out. Try again.'  with a 'Done' button to click on. Oh the same thing happens when i try to download  free iTunes. Yes I have tried & tried it again I even logged off and singed back in-- no joy
After accessing my iTunes account I was not able to change anything like my credit card number when I tried and was sent right to the 'Your session has timed out. Try again.'
The last time I purchased any anything was on September 25th 2011 and the 'terms & conditions' page was last updated on October 12, 2011
Does anyone have an idea to what is going on with my iTunes version 9.2.1 (5) and I can not upgrade to a higher version my iMac does not have the intel processor chip.Thank you for your time and help with this matter. You are greatly appreciated

I am having the same problem also! I posted on here about it, but no one has responded with ideas. I called technical support and e-mailed them, the only suggestions they gave was for the to turn off my firewall. But I didn't change anything, so it shouldn't suddenly stop working. Maybe this is just an iTunes issue? But it doesn't even recognize my account anymore, and I cannot log in now.
If you happen to get an answer, will you please let me know what works for you?
    Thanks!

  • Help!  My iPhone just went through the washing machine!

I am at a complete loss... I don't know what to do other than get a new iPhone - it won't turn on... I'm trying to dry it out...

Whatever you do, do not power it on while it remains wet.
It must dry out naturally which can take a while - days or weeks and that includes placing the iPhone in a bag of uncooked rice or in a bag of silica gel packets during that time. Even with that, if the iPhone was powered on while being submerged in water, as you know moisture and electronics don't mix especially when completely submerged.

Uploaded through Bridge CC photos from my camera; went through the motions, not paying attention, but it did NOT save 'em where I usually save 'em; how can I ask Brindge or just the Mac Finder the last files I downloaded & where I saved 'em too? Oh, yeah, it ERASED the photos from my camera. I basically just need to ask my Mac (OS 10.8) where I downloaded 'em to. Thanks!

Uploaded through Bridge CC photos from my camera; went through the motions, not paying attention,
I'm not sure I do follow this, what do you mean with motions? can you specify this?. I assume you used Photodownloader? BTW, Not paying attention is usually not the best way when importing images...
but it did NOT save 'em where I usually save 'em; how can I ask Brindge or just the Mac Finder the last files I downloaded & where I saved 'em too?
When you import files they are written to your disk and therefor no need for save them, the files are already at your disk or written to the location you choose as destination. You could select your computername in the navigation column and then use the list view and choose the column last modified but this is not always showing the correct result. You could also do a spotlight search (or use the free Easy Find you can download from Devon) and choose to search for the extension you have shot your files in (Raw, jpeg??) and then choose modification date to sort.
There is not a log (at least not to my knowledge) that keeps track of all of your movements unless you have installed such application (don't know if there is one but I think there will be a thrid party or script written by someone). You could try Console (in the utilities folder) that holds your logs and reports but this is usually for crash or forced quit situations.

Well, this would mean you would have first select the option to do so in Photodownloader. While I use PDL on a daily base I always thought this option should not even be present to choose and you certainly should not use it to delete originals.
Like Curt already stated you have to use the camera software for this with the card in the camera. Either delete but preferable format the card. Mind you, this should not be done before you are sure where your files are written to and after you have checked randomly to see if the previews have build correctly for the newly imported files. Then you should make a back up of those files and only then start thinking about erasing or formatting the card for new use.
If you have not done very strange things (like choosing the card as destination but if so they might still be there- check finder in column mode- or wrote them to an external disk - where they also still should be) the files should be somewhere at your system. Just do an extensive search and if the files are really important check for recovering software for your card.
And follow the steps described above for importing, sometimes we need to learn our lessons the hard way (and I have been there too...)

  • My iPod classic accidentally went through the washer. I put it in rice and now it will turn on but it just shows a red X. Am I just out of luck?

My iPod classic accidentally went through the washer. I put it in rice for about two weeks. It will now turn on but only shows me a red X. I plugged it into the wall but I am afraid to plug it into my computer. I don't know if that will have an adverse affects on my computer. Am I just out of luck on this one or is there any way this is salvageable?

Rice is a weak drying agent. You can buy stronger desiccant's that will do a better job of drying out the iPod. But please use caution, these desiccant's can be poisonous, so use caution.
Considering the very high value of an iPod classic I would make every attempt to repair it.  One example is shown below, but there are many types available.

  • Daughter's IPod Touch went through the washer!  Any hope?  What to do?

Her new IPod Touch went through the washer. Can anything be done to salvage it?

Do not turn it on. Put it in rice for 1 - 2 weeks. Take it out, and attempt to turn it on. If it says to plug it in, you can jump up and down. Plug it in, and charge it. If it works, yay!
Did you know, if the metal inside was a metal that didn't rust, and no electricity was going through the circut boards, you could wash your iPod as many times as you wanted. Just when you want to use it again, make sure it's dry.

  • Daughter's iPod touch went through the washer. Do i need to take the back off somehow before I try putting it in rice?

Daughter's iPod touch went through the washer. Do i need to take the back off somehow before I try putting it in rice?

No. Just put it in rice as is.
You may have success in getting it to boot after using the rice technique, but it will sincerely doubtfully never fully function again.

  • Please help: My iPOD just runs through the playlist. Doesn't play anything.

My iPOD just runs through the playlist. Doesn't play anything. The songs do exist physically on the device.
I tried updating the iPOD but still the problem was not solved.
Is there any way by which I can play the songs without downloading them again on iPOD?
      Windows XP Pro

I just had the same exact problem. It's like the Nano was forwarding thru the songs by itself..nothing would play!
So I went and looked at the manual, which suggested I try resetting it first. I did, and it worked! Here's what I did:
The manual instructed me to turn the "hold" switch on & off. Then it said to hold down the Menu and center button at the same time, until the Apple logo appeared. Then in a few moments the main screen came back on...and I was able to play songs again.
Hope this works for you, good luck!

  • Hello! Ever since I upgraded my iPhone 5s to IOS 7.1, I am unable to access the iPhone Keyboard if I access contacts the recent calls tab. I am also unable to access the keyboard if I want to search for a contact as long as I went through the recent calls

Hello! Ever since I upgraded my iPhone 5s to IOS 7.1, I am unable to access the iPhone Keyboard if I access contacts using the recent calls tab. I am also unable to access the keyboard if I want to search for a contact as long as I went through the recent calls tab. Has anyone a fix for this problem? If you want to try it out, do the following?
Dial a number from your iPhone Keypad. After cutting the call, try to save the number you just dialled to your contacts by choosing the new contact option. You will see that you will not be able to key in the name of your new contact.

    Works fine for me.
Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

  • HT201210 I have an iPhone that went through the wash...

Can somebody help me with this? My iPhone 4s went through the washing machine (full cycle) and I popped the back off and stuck it in rice for a few days, now it turned on but its just showing that I need to plug it into iTunes. I did that and it was trying to restore it but it wasn't working. I tried multiple times, but nothing. What should I do? I need this phone, badly.

Out of Warranty replacement for an iPhone 4S is $199 US, adjust
for your location. There is no magic cure - washing your iPhone
destroyed it, and it must now be replaced.

  • My iPod shuffle went through the washer and dryer. The little light turns on but no music comes through any headphones. ???

    What to do??
Okay so I found my iPod had gone through the washer and dryer. It was perfectly dry. I tried to turn it on, and nothing. But I thought maybe it's just dead. So I plugged it in, let it charge...when I tried to turn it on, the little light went green. I thought hurray!! But I put in the earbuds and heard nothing except some random "Battery level 75 percent." On my sister's earbuds. On my earbuds, which went through the washer too, nothing.
    What to do???

It's likely that your iPod is toast.  It does not play well with water and soap.

  • HT1766 My iphone 4 went through the wash.

My iphone 4 went through the wash.  I have an appointment this morning with apple but am suspect I may just be waisting my time.  Is my phone likely toast or do you think they will be able to help it somehow?

They will offer a replacement at some cost to you.  What that cost is, depends on whether you have AppleCare+.
Good job on the bowl of rice tactic.  If it powers on at all, use that opportunity to create a backup.  Do you sync to a portable computer?  Take it with you, so you can perform the backup/restore right there.  Otherwise, you can use an iCloud backup which can take anywhere between two minutes and 12-hours.  Again, that variance depends on what steps you have taken prior to the water damage incident.

  • Ipod went through the washing machine

My son's ipod touch went through the washing machine and just wanted to know if there is anything  can do to save it?

    See:

Do not charge or try to use the iPod until dry.

  • My iPod went through the washing machine.  Can it be saved?  What should I do?

My iPod went through the washing machine.  Can it be saved? What should I do?

When electronics get emersed in liquid, it's not the actual water that causes them to break (although if you spilled something like coke with a bunch of sugar, the sugar would stay in the device even after the liquid of the coke dissolved). What breaks the device is if either it was on when it was emersed in water, or if you turn it on before all the water can evaporate. If so, the water will conduct the electricity between the wires and short circuit the device. If you weren't thick enough to try and turn your device on immediately after you took it out of the washing machine, then it should be fine if you just let the water evaporate. Another technique (to make the water evaporate faster and, on rare occassions, to save a device if you've turned if on while there was still water in it) is to put the device in rice and let it sit overnight. Hope this helps.
