Assuming you have windows, try uninstalling iTunes and all of its components as by following this guide exactly: Windows XP or Windows Vista/7, then reinstall iTunes. You must follow this guide exactly or it will not be successful. Note: uninstalling iTunes will only remove the application; it will not touch your iTunes library or data.

What version of OS X are you using? If Yosemite, you need to update to 10.10.1 or higher.

I am getting the same error message - error 7, Windows error 193 running iTunes on a PC Laptop (HP) which has been running iTunes previously for at least 2 years.
I followed the Apple support page and uninstalled (in order) all Apple programmes specified, rebooted, then re-installed. Two additional errors crop up in re-installation, the first one is to do with Apple Mobile Support Device Services. It seems that this might be rectified by plugging in said devices before finishing the re-install. The second reads iTunesHelper was not installed correctly please re-install iTunes. This persists. I cannot uninstall iTunesHelper using the Control Panel, but I can delete it using Windows. However, after re-installing again, it still won't run and the original error comes back. I've downloaded and uninstalled 15 times now and this is taking far too long to be acceptable.

OK, you turned off your filewall, but did you disable Norton Internet Security completely? For some issues just disabling the firewall is not enough. I solved my own problem....I simply moved the cable to another port while moving the mouse to the USB ports on the opposite side of the computer....and the computr finally recognized the phone...I know it sounds weird but it worked...so if you are having the same problem that had trying removing all the crap you have plugged into the USB ports on your computer THEN plug in your IPhone 4s...use the cable that came with the phone and nothing else...good luck..>!!!

This sounds the same as my issue. I was browsing in Firefox v6.0 last night and all of a sudden it closed with no notice or error message. When I tried to open FF I received the messaga; We're Sorry - Firefox had a problem and crashed. We'll try to restore your tabs and windows when it restarts." I does not restart. I have been using IE to browse for a solution and nothing works other than opening as administrator. Now this problem is only on one of my laptops and is fine on my desktop and other laptops so it appears to be something specific to my laptop which is running Window XP Home and Service Pack 3.
Some suggestions were to change the profile (did not work), end the firefox.exe process in task manager (not running in processes) and delete an xpicleanup.exe (not listed).

I'm not sure if it charged when I hooked it up to my roommate's computer, but it definately didn't register either. If I put it on the dock it plays so the port is fine, but that still doesn't help me sync it to my computer.
