First, unplug the modem, for at least 10 secs., then unlpug you airport/ wifi/ then try to reconnect.
If it it does not not work, reconnect your modem, then reconnect your network utilites, use assistance.

This sounds like a possible permissions issue. Try these steps. Uninstall iTunes and all of it's components. Next, download the newest version of iTunes and save it to your desktop rather than selecting run. Right click on the installer package and run as administrator. I uninstalled Thunderbird but when i try to reinstall it I keep getting a message that the system must be rebooted to finalize the uninstall, over & over again.

I am using a laptop with Windows 7. For several weeks Thunderbird has been running very slowly & there are messages saying a script is running too long. you original problem is almost certainly your anti virus, I would also hazard a guess your new one is as well.

When there is a mismatch between the iTunes Store's records and your credit card company's records, you will receive an error message

If you are running Tiger, you don't have time machine.
You need to get something like SuperDuper! or Carbon Copy Cloner (sorry, I don't have a handy link for CCC but you can Google it to get their site) to make a clone of your drive on the external and then do incremental backups. The free versions do a lot and you can upgrade to the full-service versions for small change if you need more. The one time I used SuperDuper! for cloning a volume it worked just fine.
(My backup application is the last PPC capable version of Retrospect, which does a credible job, or has over the past ten-twelve years.)
