I keep getting a "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible" message and firefox does not open. WHat is wrong and how do I fix?

I uninstalled Firefox from my computer, then I reinstalled it and tried to run it, but this message appeared, "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible" and Firefox does not open at all.

hello davidrusso71, press windows-key+R on your computer and open ''%appdata%\Mozilla\'' - an explorer window should come up, in there rename the folder labelled "Firefox" to something like oldFirefox. on the next start of firefox this should lead to a new profile being created...

    I lost Firefox for no apparent reason. I deleted the program and attempted to reinstall and download. Received an error message that read "Your firefox profile cannot be loaded. Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
    See "Basic Troubleshooting: Make a new profile":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Basic+Troubleshooting#w_8-make-a-new-profile
    There may be extensions and plugins installed by default in a new profile, so check that in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions & Plugins" in case there are still problems.
    If that new profile works then you can transfer some files from the old profile to that new profile, but be careful not to copy corrupted files.

  • When I download and try to install Thunderbird I get the message "Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded, it may be missing or inaccessible".

    Because of a virus, I redownloaded Thunderbird 24.4.0 and it completed until trying to open Thunderbird when I get the message "Your Thunderbird profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." I know the profile exists in a "recovered files" folder. I've tried to move it to the current Thunderbird folder but get the same message. I've tried to follow a Mozillazine article but it's too complicated. Is there any online help, such as chat or phone?

    I think I have finally figured out how to reply to you. Even though your email says to reply to [email protected], that just goes into dead space.
    So to answer your question, the profiles.ini file has in it:
    <pre><nowiki>{General}
    StartWithLastProfile=1
    {Profile0}
    Name=default
    IsRelative=1
    Path=Profiles/ghdigdus.default</nowiki></pre>
    Also, I want to mention that there is a Thunderbird folder in C:\ just above the Users folder. It has two profiles in it, one of which is the e00qmtzd.default folder.
    Are we getting closer to solving this problem?

  • Firefox profile cannot be loaded it may be missing or inaccessible WINDOWS 8

    I have a Windows 8 OS running on a PC. I have been using Firefox as my browser for several months. Suddenly, when I try to load Firefox, I get an error message, "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." I have uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox version 21.0 twice, and still get the same error message. How do I get to the profile.ini file using Windows 8, and what am I supposed to do when I ever get there?

    There are a few steps to try.
    First, try resetting Firefox:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems
    If this doesn’t solve the problem, trying using the Firefox Profile Manager to remove your old profile and create a new one manually:
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
    If this still doesn’t work, try deleting the profile.ini file to force Firefox to create a new default profile:
    * Make sure that Firefox is closed
    * Press Windows key+R to open the Run box
    * Type: %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox
    * Click “OK”
    * Delete the file called “profile.ini”
    * Run Firefox again

  • Uninstalled Firefox & deleted profile folder. Installed new Firefox but box pops up "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded It may be missing or inaccessible."

    I can't reinstall firefox. I deleted the profile folder and uninstalled firefox in hopes of clearing up the cookies from some problems I was having accessing my school course through a website. It seems to be downloaded but won't open up because the profile is missing. Help is appreciated thanks!

    If you delete the Firefox profile folder, but leave the profiles.ini file then Firefox will try to access the folder that is marked as "Default=1" in the profiles.ini file and that will cause this error message.
    *Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/
    In Mac OS X v10.7 and later, the ~/Library folder is a hidden folder.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Show_hidden_files_and_folders#Mac_OS_X
    You do not have to delete the Firefox profile folder if there is a problem with the cookies.
    You would only have to delete the cookies.sqlite file that stores the cookies in case clearing the cookies in the normal way isn't working.
    You can try these steps in case of issues with web pages:
    You can reload web page(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.
    *Hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
    *Press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
    *Press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
    Clear the cache and remove cookies only from websites that cause problems.
    "Clear the Cache":
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content: "Clear Now"
    "Remove Cookies" from sites causing problems:
    *Firefox/Tools > Options > Privacy > "Use custom settings for history" > Cookies: "Show Cookies"
    Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
    *Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
    *Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

    Hi Bernard, normally, when doing a Reset, Firefox moves your old profile folder to the desktop (in a folder named Old Firefox Data), creates a new profile folder incorporating some of the data from your old profile, and updates a configuration file with the new profile folder name. It sounds as though this broke down somewhere along the way. Let's see whether it was that third step.
    In order to ease the next few steps, please make sure that you can view hidden files and folders. This article has the steps:
    * Windows XP: http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/win_fcab_show_file_extensions.mspx
    * Newer Windows: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files
    To open your Firefox data folder, you can type or paste the following into either the Start menu Run box, Search box, or into the address bar of a Windows Explorer/My Computer window:
    %APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox
    In the folder that loads, you should see a Profiles folder and a file named profiles.ini (it's a text file you can edit with Notepad).
    Click into the Profiles folder to see whether you can find a semi-randomly-named folder. If you find it, click into it to confirm that it contains some files and isn't empty. If there is stuff there, let's work with it. Up in the address bar of Windows Explorer, select and copy the semi-random name of the folder, or you can make a note of it somewhere.
    Return back up to the Firefox folder. Right-click>Edit the profiles.ini file and it should open in Notepad. You should see something like the following:
    [General]
    StartWithLastProfile=1
    [Profile0]
    Name=default
    IsRelative=1
    Path=Profiles/'''asdf1234.default'''
    Default=1
    The part of Path after Profiles/ needs to match the name of the folder you copied or noted earlier. Go ahead and fix it and save the file.
    Then try to start Firefox again. Any luck?
    If the existing profile (post-Reset) is missing completely, or is missing important data, we can grab one of the earlier profile folders from the Old Firefox Data folder on your desktop. For the steps to do that, please see this post: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/1025708#answer-641099

  • Your Firefox Profile cannot be loaded.It may be missing or inaccessable. Have tried all suggestions and cannot find my profile or fix it

    I have bee using firefox for many years and seemed to have lost it. I downloaded again about 5 times,have tried all suggestions in the forums nothing worked.The only thing is I tried to recover my Profile default fold and it is missing. What can I do? I miss using firefox and would like you back

    Hello All.
    I've been using Firefox for a long time with a great pleasure of course. I've got today the same problem as you: my profile can't be loaded, missing or inaccessible. I tried all solutions but it was not OK.
    Finally, as yesterday I've played with hiddens files in my home directory, I noticed that my "/home/myuser/.cache" was marked with a little padlock: it was access protected. So I just execute:
    '''sudo chown myuser /home/myuser/.cache -R '''
    and now Firefox is working fine.
    I hope this way will be useful for you
    Thanks

    after I received the error message, i uninstalled and then re-installed mozilla firefox. my desktop now has a mozilla firefox icon and a separate folder entitled: old firefox data. i tried a solution posted at the site:

    Hello poestirs3
    press Windows key + R to open the Run box of windows Vista, then type '''%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox''' (or copied from here) and click "'''OK'''" to quickly open the appropriate folder,
    then find [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profiles.ini_file profiles.ini file] (see the screenshot how possible looks like) and rename it (right-click on mouse and select rename) to profiles.iniOLD , then when you start firefox again, a new default profile folder will be created and only a single profile, the new "default", will be listed in the Profile Manager.
    This new "default" profile doesn't contain any of the profile data or settings stored in your old "default" profile folder, which still exists but is no longer accessible from the Profile Manager.
    Your existing Firefox user profile data, which includes bookmarks, passwords, cookies, preference settings and added extensions, will no longer appear in the new profile but you [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferring_data_to_a_new_profile_-_Firefox can transfer the data from the old profile folder to the new default profile folder].

  • Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible... Help!?

    One moment I was able to use Firefox just fine and the next, I'm getting a pop up message:
    Title: Missing Profile:
    Message: Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. it may be missing or inaccessible.
    I cannot open firefox at all and I'm at a loss of what to do. I can't even troubleshoot firefox because firefox is trying to open but it can't.
    What I believe happened was that firefox was in the middle of updating/trying to open in safe mode and somehow got interrupted. I have been looking around online trying to find a solution and so far I've been coming up short and any help would be appreciated!
    I have Windows 7.
    Thanks!

  • Your firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible. Firefox will not open and I don't have another internet program on my computer. How can I get the profile back?

    Everytime I try to open firefox on my desktop it says "Your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible." So now I cannot open firefox at all and I can't figure out how to get a profile. I just had to delete some programs to gain memory on my system and that is when the problem started. Hi crmn,
    Have you looked at the Knowledge Base article [[Recovering important data from an old profile]]? There are steps in there that might help you. You might just want to create a new profile and start fresh.
    Hopefully this helps!

  • Get your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible after install. Profile.ini isnt installed at all. Forums no help.

    I have installed the latest version of Firefox on my windows XP Pro 32 bit box 3 times and uninstalled 3 times to fix the message that the Profile is missing and your Firefox profile cannot be loaded. It may be missing or inaccessible. I am admin on the box and I can install the download and remove it all day long but I can't get the profile.ini to be created. I've looked at all the forums and they don't address the missing profile at all or that it never gets created. I really need this to work as IE won't work for me.

    If there was anyway to import the profile.ini I would.
    You could manually create the folders and the ''profiles.ini'' file, but without solving the underlying problem, you're likely just run into some other issue instead. If you insist on going about it this way, this is what you'd do:
    <br>1. Click the '''Start''' button on the taskbar and choose '''Run'''.
    <br>2. In the box that opens, type ''%AppData%'' and press Enter.
    <br>3. In the folder that opens, create a new folder called ''Mozilla''
    <br>4. Open the Mozilla folder and inside it create a new folder called ''Firefox''
    <br>5. Start Notepad, paste the following as its contents, then save the file as ''%AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\profiles.ini''
    <pre><nowiki>[General]
    StartWithLastProfile=1
    [Profile0]
    Name=default
    IsRelative=1
    Path=Profiles/2dzy4k7u.default
    Default=1</nowiki></pre>
    6. Inside the Firefox folder, create a new folder called ''Profiles''
    <br>7. Inside the Profiles folder, create a new folder called ''2dzy4k7u.default''
    <br><br>
    When launching Firefox, it will then attempt to populate the blank profile folder with data files (bookmarks, history, cookies, and so on). If you still have the permissions issue, I expect it will fail to do so.
