I keep getting an "Inconsistant System Files" error at startup.

Inconsistant System Files
I have used disk utility and all looks ok. I tried to restore to a previous time with time machine but the error still comes up.
I don't know why it started as I haven't installed any new hardware or software, unless it's something to do with an update..
I'm unable to reset startup disk as there is only network startup as an option.
I think I made a boo boo when restoring as my 1TB drive is now almost full (i'm guessing with a copy of my entire drive, but I can't find it!)
so can't now restore much as there is no room to copy.
I may end up formating, booting from install disc and restoring entirely from time machine, unless anyone can suggest a solution!
Gary

Update,
Thanks for all your suggestions but I have fixed it!
Here's what I did; it got to the point where I could not boot up at all, just got the circle with a slash through it. Not able to boot from DVD either. So.... I took out my time machine HD and put in a couple of old HD's from an old PPC. Remarkably these fired up. I went to disk utility and deleted the striped raid that was playing up, dragged them back and made a new striped raid set with them and re-named it.
I then inserted the install DVD and shut down. Took out the old PPC HD's, put time machine HD back in and restarted. This time it booted from the DVD, I did a full clean install and then ran software update. Installed the updates and restarted.
Then into migration assistant, checked all the boxes and let it do it's thing for a couple of hours. When I came back it looked a mess but after a restart all was back as if nothing had happened. All my applications, files, folders and desktop image and even all my e-mails, all back in place.....
The only thing I can think that started the problems was an update, or series of updates from apple. When installing them a while ago I got a couple of messages about an invalid location and the update being unable to use a certain address. Next time I will take more notice of the message and maybe Google it to find a fix!

I keep getting "cannot save library file error -50 when I open up iTunes on my PC

Same issue here. Running Windows Vista Home Premium Edition and newest version of iTunes. Normally happens when I am ripping a CD into iTunes and by chance multi task or the screen saver kicks in.
What ***** is if you walk away while ripping a CD(because it takes 3 times as long in iTunes vs any other ripper), and it will halt your ripping until you click "ok". I have not tried the "dont tell me again" check box just in case it is a problem I need to know about. This happened about 2 or 3 days after upgrading to Vista and I got an empty library the next time I opened the library. Somehow it got corrupted. Luckily I back up the xml file and just restored that one file from last back up.
(off subject but also getting the maxed our processor still in the newest version for Windows Vista. Wish they would fix that!)

  • Keep getting "itunes has stopped working" error.

Keep getting "itunes has stopped working" error. Just updated to windows 8.1, updated java (i installed java on windows 8 for work), & ran the solve a problem with itunes fix from my pc. Still crashes when i go to itunes store or try to sync my ipod. Itunes says their is no solution, my pc can't find a solution, and I've tried several fixes online (copying the .dll file, running in safe mode, running as administrator, reinstalling itunes) nothing is working for me.

    Hey Cassblue21,
Thanks for the question, and great troubleshooting so far. While you may have already attempted most of the steps outlined in this article, I wished to provide it to you just in case you missed something. The article includes great isolation steps to determine if the issue is user-specific, or system-wide. Once you have isolated the issue, a few solutions are offered:

You have limited opportunity to attempt to create a backup of your created files.
That is what the SafeBoot or safemode appears to allow you -- at the moment.
Since the hard disk drive exhibits signs of failure or other major issues, plan
on a replacement in the near future. You may be able to get the computer to
start up in a regular full OS X (not safe mode) but consider its hours are limited.
An externally enclosed hard disk drive (with own power supply, not relying on
Mac ports to run it) is a good basic means of which to use a disk utility to make
a copy or a Clone of the current OS X. This may help retrieve an archive that
could be used along with a Time Machine backup, to restore your Mac once you
get a new hard drive installed inside.
    Good luck & happy computing!

I had this exact same problem just now, trying to upgrade to 10.7.
I even got that error msg when trying to UNINSTALL iTunes!
After hours of frustration trying everyone's different suggestions, I downloaded Revo Uninstaller http://www.cnet.com.au/apps/revo-uninstaller-10610875/ which solved the problem.
Use it to help uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order and then restart your computer:
    1. iTunes
    2. QuickTime
    3. Apple Software Update
    4. Apple Mobile Device Support
    5. Bonjour
    6. Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Then you can install iTunes from scratch.
    Good luck

  • I am trying to download my photos into I photo with my new Nikon S6300 camera and keep getting the message  The file could not be imported the file is unrecognizable format had no problems with my Canon camera

Trying to download my pictures to IPhoto with my new Nikon S6300 camera keep getting the message the file could not be imported as the file is unreconizable format. I had no problem with my old Canon camera. Please help

I am having the same problem which has happened very infrequently before. Generally it's one photo and happened when my battery died.
However today I tried to download six photos.
None would download including several others for a total of 21 that would not download.
Since I had just installed a new powered hub and added three new external 4T hard drives, I got concerned that it was the hub. Then got really worried that I'd have problems with the data I have been backing up.
However following this sequence of events, I've determined it's not the hub, but still don't know what is causing the problem.
    (1) Put a fresh battery in the camera - same results
(1.5) Used a different port in the new hub - same results
    (2) Put the card in the card slot in the back of my iMac - no problems except that one image I knew about last week. The six new images imported.
    (3) Tried again using the cable - still same error
    (4) Changed cables - my husband has the same camera - still same error
    (4) Put the card in his camera with his cable - still same error
    (5) Put the card in a card reader and used the same slot in the new hub - no problems - same one wouldn't import but message that there are no new photos to import.
    (6) Moved the offending one image to the Trash while the card was in the card reader
    (7) Put the card back into my camera and used my cable. iPhoto had no error and displayed the message there are no new photos.
    Conclusion:
    Not the camera
    Not the cable
    Not the hub
Must remove bad photo from the card
However, I have not had to do that before. I went through several imports on vacation when there was one bad image and just ignored it each time.
Any idea why this is happening now?
    Thank you

I'm about to hulk out guys! Brand new iPhone 5 and need to update iTunes for recognition. Keep getting "the installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail." Can anyone help? I may smash something very soon.

    iTunes:
    AppName: itunes.exe
    AppVer: 10.5.0.142
    ModName: unknown
    ModVer: 0.0.0.0
    Offset: 001be6f6
    Quicktime:
    EventType : BEX
    P1 : QuickTimePlayer.exe
    P2 : 7.71.80.42
    P3 : 4ea5c6ef
    P4 : QuickTimePlayer.dll
    P5 : 7.71.80.42
    P6 : 4ea5c6d5
    P7 : 00005b6d
    P8 : c0000409
    P9 : 00000000
That's consistent with another application (other than QuickTime) having dropped old QuickTime componentry in non-standard locations on the PC.
So we'll go looking for the older QuickTime componentry in the most common locations for it to be stashed.
First we'll need to change some view options on the PC.
    1. Open My Computer from the desktop or Start menu.
    2. In the Tools menu, click Folder Options.
    3. Click the View tab.
    4. In the "Advanced settings" pane under "Hidden files and folders" make sure that the "Show hidden files and folders" option is selected, and the "Hide extensions for known file types" option is unchecked.
    5. Click OK.
Now in My Computer, open your C drive.
    Open the "Windows" folder.
    Open the "system32" folder.
What files and/or folders can you see in there with QuickTime in the file/folder name? (In a standard installation of QuickTime, you should see precisely two files ... QuickTime.qts and QuickTimeVR.qtx ... and no QuickTime folders whatsoever.)

Cannot install snow leopard. Keep getting"os product manager domain error-100"

    Just to double check,
1: you are hold c or option/alt key booted from the 10.6 disk that came with your machine
2: you are in Disk Utility and you have selected the drive makers name and disk size on the left
3: you attempt to click Partition tab, click on the big box, select 1 partition, select option: GUID and format OS X exteneded Journaled and it reports "can't unmount disk"
4: you do have no other drives connected to the machine
If that's all true, then you need to quit Disk Utility and use Terminal and try to force unmount the disk
    http://macosx.com/forums/mac-os-x-system-mac-software/309784-official-mac-os-x-1 0-6-snow-leopard-thread-faq-33.html
Once the drive is unmounted, then hopefully you should be able to format it in Disk Utility
