My Vista Home Premium System Type is a 64 bit Operating System.
I was hoping that someone in the Apple Community would have a solution.

2) Remove you iCloud account from the Mac, and readd it

I have tried to reinstall the i Tunes app 3 times. Just get message of i tunes was improperly intalled. In order to burn cds need to reinstall. What other things can i try its very frustrating.

I know my card is fine. I used it to to make in app purchases on my ipod just 2 nights ago and nothing has changed. Why di i keep getting applephotostream.exe has stopped working on my PC. I have removed the icloud control panel and reloaded it many times and whilst it cures the problem temporarrily it soon comes back................any permanent cures please!

The only worked it worked for me was to uninstall icloud, restart my pc and reinstall (download from apple site) icloud.

When there is a mismatch between the iTunes Store's records and your credit card company's records, you will receive an error message

If the issue persists, contact your credit card company and verify that they and any company they use to process credit card authorizations have the correct information on file.

I'm surprised you get no message when you attempt opening the Excel document in Numbers.
I'm assuming Numbers 3.1, since you are running Mavericks.
Does the Numbers file that opens show any content?
Does it contain a table?
How large?
Does it contain more than one tab (indicating more than one sheet)?
Do those other tabs contain a table?
Have you checked those tables for data content?
There have been cases in the past of imported documents opening with white text on a white background, giving the appearance of containing nothing. Check for this by selecting a block of cells, then applying a Fill colour or a Text colour using the Format button (paintbrush).
I'd also suggest attempting to open the Excel files using LibreOffice, which can be downloaded from the linked website.

I have seen the Apple webpage suggesting the "five R's" (including restore). Before doing anything, I want to be sure that restoring or any other action is not going to delete or risk my data.
I would be very grateful if anyone can suggest a fix for this problem, in a way that will not risk my data.

Did you try a hard reset with the iPod still connected to your PC? Have you tried multiple USB ports, preferably high powered USB 2.0 ports?
To do a hard reset, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.
Have you also worked through each and every single troubleshooting suggestion in this Apple support document?
