I keep getting error messages when I try to download iTunes

I have had iTunes on my computer for years.  With the latest software update, iTunes will no longer work on my computer.  I cannot get it to open.  I have uninstalled and tried to re-install.  I keep getting the error message that Apple Mobile Device is not working.  iTunes will not even open.  I have tried to re-install several times.
My computer still uses Vista OS, I know it's a dinosaur, but we really only use the PC to surf the internet, print a few documents here and there and to sync with iTunes.
I am restarting each time I've unistalled and then tried to re-install again.
Any advice?

I've disabled my firewall...I've done everything I've read about in the forums...Please help !!

  • Keep getting error message when I try to reinstall itunes

I tried to install the latest update but got an error message. Uninstalled itunes now cant get it reinstalled. Keep getting error messages

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall press on)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

OK, you turned off your filewall, but did you disable Norton Internet Security completely? For some issues just disabling the firewall is not enough. I once had a connection problem with Gracenote that went away when NIS was disabled, but turning off every element of NIS individually and together did not work.

Are you able to connect to the store normally with just downloading affected, or is there a general store connection problem?
The other thing is have you run your network diagnostics from the iTunes Help menu? Posting the result might help.

  • I keep getting an error message when I try to download iTunes on my new HP lap top

I've installed and uninstalled iTunes three times now and keep getting a message from the Apple iTunes Helper telling me that Apple application support was not found, and that Apple application support is required to run iTunes helper.
    Any guidance is greatly appreciated.

Let's try a standalone Apple Application Support install. It still might not install, but fingers crossed any error messages will give us a better idea of the underlying cause of the issue.
Download and save a copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64setup.exe) installer file to your hard drive:
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Download and install the free trial version of WinRAR:
    http://www.rarlab.com/
Right-click the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe), and select "Extract to iTunesSetup" (or "Extract to iTunes64Setup"). WinRAR will expand the contents of the file into a folder called "iTunesSetup" (or "iTunes64Setup").
Go into the folder and doubleclick the AppleApplicationSupport.msi to do a standalone AAS install.
Does it install properly for you?
If instead you get an error message during the install, let us know what it says. (Precise text, please.)

  • Get error message when I try to download pictures from my camera to Iphoto.

Whenever I try to download photos from my digital camera to my Iphoto application in my Mac Book Pro laptop, I'm getting an error message that "startup disk is running low on space" and to delete some files before I try to download again. I also tried to install a recent software update to my computer and could not because it said that I did not have anough GB to do so. So... I'm thinking I need to delete some things. Which items take up the most hard drive space and which would be the best files to delete? I have all my info backed up on an external hard drive, so I could delete a lot of pictures. Thanks!

The order of consumption is usually, video, pics, music, docs.
If you have a great deal of photos on you internal drive and have them on an external storage drive, then you can delete them from your internal, that would free up space, same for videos, they are both space hogs. I regularly put my photos to an external drive, just keep my internal with as much free space on it. It runs faster and less stressful on the drive.
If you are having these error messages then you most certainly need to get stuff off, overloading can kill a drive.
As a general rule try to keep the internal below 50% for better performance.

  • Keep getting Error -37 when I try to download music

I recently purchased a $15 dollar iTunes card at Sam Goody, and I put it on my iTunes account and when I tried to buy songs, the song would be in my pending downloads but I'm unable to download it fully because everytime I try I get an error message saying that the file name is too long or invalid. I sent a message to support about this and they said to upgrade my iTunes software to iTunes 7.0 and to turn off my firewall. I did this, and I still get the same error message, -37. What does this mean and how can I fix it?
Toshiba Satellite A-10   Windows XP   DSL connection, iTunes 7.0

Also try turning off any anti-virus or web accelerators you have running. Firewalls aren't the only things that can cause errors. Disconnecting your router (if you have one) and connecting directly to your broadband modem may help as well. Give it a go. No harm in trying.
