I keep getting "Firefox Not Responding". It is getting really old!!

I am getting really tired of getting a "Firefox Not Responding" while on the internet. I tried resetting Firefox AND Uninstalling and Re-installing. All those did was lose all my favorites for me. It still doesn't respond well.

After a Reset, Firefox should have created a folder on your desktop named Old Firefox Data. You should be able to recover your bookmarks from there once Firefox is running a little better.
To rule out Flash as a potential culprit, could you try one or both of the following:
(1) Disable the Protected Mode feature of the Flash Player plugin.
The following pages provide different ways to do that:
* Adobe support article under the heading "Last Resort": [http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?]
* Manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/968190?page=5#answer-509209
* Batch file to automate the manual steps: https://support.mozilla.org/questions/982093#answer-518078
Flash needs to completely unload from memory (restarting Firefox might help) before this would take effect.
(2) Set Flash to Click-to-Play ("Ask to Activate").
This will delay Flash from starting on a page until you approve it, which will help distinguish Flash-generated issues from page load and layout issues.
To set "Ask to Activate", open the Add-ons page using either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Plugins. Look for "Shockwave Flash" and change "Always Activate" to "Ask to Activate".
When you visit a site that wants to use the Flash, you should see a notification icon in the address bar and one of the following: a link in a black rectangle in the page or an infobar sliding down between the toolbar area and the page.

  • Keep getting firefox not responding for about 2 months now Can any one help me figure out why and fix this?

I'm using windows 7 64 bit system, for past 2 months keep randomly getting firefox not responding. Wait about 10-20 seconds for all tabs to respond.

This is a bad hardware error, Baseband Error. Some have reported getting through this error by Restoring iPhone with the SIM Card removed. Try that. Try restoring with different computer. Search Web some more for other thoughts.

  • When i try to use firefox i keep getting "Firefox not responding" why

Every time I click on something I get "Firefox not responding" I have uninstalled and reinstalled and it is not going away and it is really getting me aggravated.

I had the same problem, on scouring many forums i read a post about "McAfee Script Scan" and how it could cause conflicts.
I went to "Tools",- "Add-ons" which took me to the Add-ons Manager
Then "Extensions" in the left pane,
I scrolled down until i found "McAfee Script Scan" and removed it,
I then re-started Firefox and couldn't belive the difference, it was like going back to when i had BT infinity installed, like a new pc.
I hope this is of use to other users.

  • I just bought a new Gateway desktop comeputer that runs windows 8 and I keep getting Firefox not responding when trying to view websites.

My internet connection is good, so why is Firefox not responding?

This problem can be caused by pages that use Flash media. Here is some standard guidance that addresses the most common reasons for Flash problems in Firefox. I'm sure you've seen some of it before, but just in case:
    (1) If you have installed any recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media, make sure they are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them.
    (2) Disable hardware graphics acceleration in Firefox and in Flash
    (A) In Firefox, un-check the box here and restart:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced > General > "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    (B) In Flash, see this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues
    (3) Disable protected mode
See this support article from Adobe under the heading "Last Resort": [http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?]

  • Firefox is working ok by selecting bookmared tabs but not for any search just getting firefox not responding

If a bookmark is selected the site runs fine .
If i clicki on a searched file all i get is not responding.
Never had this problem before i upgraded to 4.0

Yes buddy, i have turned on the feature on every machine i have installed Firefox on. And every machine is in perfect healthy condition with 0 malware (for sure). And one more thing all machines have windows 7 installed on them. If what you are saying is true then there might be a conflict issue of Firefox with windows 7 which apparently Firefox guys might not be aware of. Its a pity that such a great software has small small bugs that these guys are not aware of and rectify.
No offense, but its kind of weird when you come to think of it: 5 alpha phases, 12 beta phases, and god knows how many RC phases to follow prior to the release of Firefox 4. This shows that the software has so many bugs. They could have thoroughly tested the product before going into the beta phase. People are being used as testers and not their professionals who have made the product. This shows that the product has been made by them with random thoughts in mind or CASUALLY to put it straight.
No offense but it seems that the team might be consisting of some casual or easy going or hippie engineers. Hence the long wait and small small unseen problems.

  • Firefox hangs (at anytime; nothing works/helps; keyboard useless) & constantly get no response/action; I get Firefox "not responding" message at top-left of window.

Firefox hangs at anytime. Nothing works, (mouse/keyboard). Sometimes after 1 or 2 min. it works again, other times it freezes & I must re-boot (cut power & restore power) as keyboard or mouse does not respond. This happens at anytime, not when doing any specific task. Also have an unrelated question: I have have 2 Firefox icons on my desktop & 2 on my bottom toolbar, one reads as "Mozilla Firefox" & one as "Mozilla Firefox (2)". Is it possible I have 2 versions/programs installed & if so, how do I verify & correct this?

You may somehow have installed a second copy of firefox. (I deliberately have multiple versions installed) Have you been trying the Beta or Aurora channels of Firefox ?
You may have just copies the shortcut icons. I use XP but assume Vista is similar, and that if you right click the icons they will allow you to see the properties, that will include the path to the firefox program ''firefox.exe'' . Do both shortcuts point to the same file and location ?
Another possibility is that one icon is for normal use, and another for safe mode, again something you will discover if you study the properties.

  • I keep getting 'Firefox not responding' messages. This puts me into 'refresh' mode in all Tabs. Help me fix this, please. It's constant, and makes Firefox almost unuseable.

No further details, except that it keeps going into 'refresh' mode every other minute---games, emails, etc. All tabs and bookmarks.

The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.
Try to decrease the value of the pref <b>network.http.max-connections</b> from 256 to 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.

  • I have been getting firefox not responding for months. It is worse today. I sit and wait and wait. It's not worth it. I have searched about plugins and find nothing that seems to get rid of the problem. Please what can I do about this.

When I first started with firefox it was great and I was so happy with it. Well I have to say it has gotten so bad today that I am ready to give up. I have run virus scans, malware scans and even disabled a couple of add ons but to no avail its terrible.
Surely you all know what add ons it could be if thats it at all. Getting pretty desperate here.

Waka_Flocka_Flame, it looks like you were right. It was an app called "Safe Saver" of all things, that I got with a coupon website. No more magnifying glasses!

  • I always get Firefox (not responding). Doesn't matter if i clicked on something or am writing to someone. It stops, I look up top and "not responding"

sometimes the screen turns white instead of just stopping.

Did you ever fix this, because I am having the same problem

  • I keep getting message "mozila Firefox not responding." It takes minutes to down load a site - some times it just gets in a loop and never down loads. Then when I try to click on it again screen goes opaque and i get the same message.

I 'm getting message "Mozila Firefox not responding." It takes minutes to down load a site - some times just gets in a loop and never down loads. The little circle at top just keeps going round in circles .
Then when I try to click on the screen again the screen goes opaque and I get the same message re " Mozilla Firefox not responding" - and it is minutes before I can get back in to close down screen.
I have downloaded Fire fox version 4 and this is still happening.

  • System running slowly and keeps locking up. I get "Mozilla Firefox not responding" message until system catches up and strts operating again. Ideas?

When I boot system it takes forever to open. Once it is up and running I can move through some pages easily but if I try to open news sites or sites with a lot of information the system locks up as it is loading (sometimes for several minutes at a time) and will not let me get out until the system catches up. In some instances I get a "Mozilla Firefox not responding" message in the upper tool bar and the screen gets a milky color until the system catches up and allows me to continue. Any ideas?

According to everymac.com, your Mac came with Tiger, 10.4.x and can't go any higher than Lion, 10.7.x.
It would have come with gray, machine specific disks. Since there's no reason to install 10.4.x first, and then Snow Leopard over that, just purchase a retail copy of Snow Leopard for $20. What you won't get with the retail version of SL is the iLife suite (Garage Band, iDVD, etc.) that were on the original bundled disks, but you can purchase iLife on Amazon pretty cheap, and get newer versions besides.
When you get Snow Leopard, you can boot to the DVD, erase the drive and install everything clean. Hopefully, you issue is only software, and not hardware related.

  • Why Firefox5 is very, very slow in responding, keep getting the message Firefox not responding

It is very slow when opening e-mails -- say" connecting" and stays at that point for 3-4 min. and then say Firefox not responding.
This happens when I open some websites too why? How do I correct it.

Two things I've tried that seemed to help.
Disabled all Java Console Add-ons. I had 14 in Win 7 and 21 in XP SR3
I use Vipre as my Anti-Virus. When it was in the Active Protection mode it appeared that it had to clear every html subfile for a site before it would open the page. On complex Web Pages like a news site this could take a looong time. Noticeable improvement after disabling Active Protection in Vipre
