I believe Firefox 4 is Intel only. That means it will not install on a PPC Mac. You can get TenFourFox, which is made for PPCs.

I keep getting pop ups from your spyware advertisers wanting me to purchase spyware. they won't go away or allow me to do anything else. It is extremely annoying.

Mozilla Firefox does '''not''' support/endorse/encourage spyware advertisers.
If you think these popups are from spyware advertisers, you should try to scan and remove the spyware from your system. This article has more information on how to do that: [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Popups_not_blocked#Spyware_on_Windows Spyware on Windows].
In future, you can install the [https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/adblock-plus Adblock Plus add-on] to block such ads.

Do NOT click on popups or webpages offering updates to Firefox.
You appear to be posting from something other than Firefox (Internet Explorer ?)
Are you able to post a screenshot, it is probably a scam.

You may have installed one or more of the common types of ad-injection malware. Follow the instructions on this Apple Support page to remove it. It's been reported that some variants of the "VSearch" malware block access to the page. If that happens, start in safe mode by holding down the shift key at the startup chime, then try again.
Back up all data before making any changes.
One of the steps in the article is to remove malicious Safari extensions. Do the equivalent in the Chrome and Firefox browsers, if you use either of those. If Safari crashes on launch, skip that step and come back to it after you've done everything else.
If you don't find any of the files or extensions listed, or if removing them doesn't stop the ad injection, ask for further instructions.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install the malware. It may have come from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad would probably have included a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If you ever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
Malware is also found on websites that traffic in pirated content such as video. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.
In the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab. The radio button marked Anywhere  should not be selected. If it is, click the lock icon to unlock the settings, then select one of the other buttons. After that, don't ignore a warning that you are about to run or install an application from an unknown developer.
Still in System Preferences, open the App Store or Software Update pane and check the box marked
Install system data files and security updates (OS X 10.10 or later)
    or
Download updates automatically (OS X 10.9 or earlier)
    if it's not already checked.

  • Virus for macbook pro warning.  ran software and didn't detect anything buy i keep getting pop ups

i had a virus warning for my macbook pro.  ran anti virus software but nothing was detected.  however i keep getting pop ups.

You Mac does not have any viruses as there are no viruses for MacOSX. What you have a malware scam. Did you download MacDefender, or MacProtector? To get rid of them, open activity monitor and look for the process MacDefender, or MacProtector, double click the process and force quit. Go to system preferences to accounts, login items and remove MacDefender, or MacProtector by highlighting it and hitting the minus sign. Go to your applications folder and drag MacDefender or MacProtector to the trash. Open finder and do a search for Macdefender or MacProtector trash any related files. Do the same with a Spotlight search, it is the little magnyfing glass far top right in the menubar. Lastly, go open finder, select your user folder, go to library then loo in aoplication support and remove MacDefender or Mac Protector from there, close that folder then go to preferences and remove any preference file for MacDefender or MacProtector. Hope this helps.

  • I keep getting pop ups saying that my subscription has expired? I have paid and have credit because this has happened before and I paid 3 times. Can I just download the programs rather than pay a monthly charge?

I keep getting pop ups that say my subscription has expired? I have paid and have credit because this has happened before and i paid 3 times. Can I just buy a download instead of paying a monthly subscription?

We often find this happens when the wrong software gets run (so the subscription doesn't apply).
So,to start with  what exactly is your subscription for - please check your account details and confirming email?

I have an iphone 5 and I keep getting pop ups asking for my voicemail password.  How do i get rid of it?

Contact your carrier and have them re-set your voice mail password. Once they do, you should only have to enter it once. Then you won't be prompted again.

  • HT202225 I keep getting pop ups on my iMac for the first time in 6 years after one of my kids tried to watch football through crichd tv. safari now opens with smart search engine rather than google every time i try to open a new web page.

Ever since one of my kids tried to watch football on a website called crichd tv I keep getting pop us come up like Mackeeper and every time i try to open a web page it comes up with Smartsearch rather than google which is my preferred search engine in preferences. I have blocked extensions and changed homepage to google but this Smartsearch keeps overriding. Also a thing called MacKeeper keeps popping up I have followed the instructions to uninstall but the file it says to move to trash from the Applications folder but it simply isn't there or anywhere else. The file to uninstall Smartsearch is also not where they say it is in Library>frameworks>
Very frustrating from going from a perfectly working system to a now very frustrating and annoying pop ups coming uo after every time i open a new web page.
Any help or assistance in this matter would be very much appreciated.

You (or your kids) inadvertently installed adware. You do not need to download or install anything to fix it.
Any tips on how to stop it from happening?
Yes. To learn how to avoid it in the future read How to install adware.
If you require them, Apple's removal instructions are linked in the Recovery Procedure near the end of that document. Read and follow them carefully. Pay particular attention to the easily overlooked passages directing you to restart your Mac when required.

  • Why do i keep getting pop ups?

everytime i click on something i keep getting pops up on a mac keeper with a little robot or just other junk how do i stop this?

There is no need to download anything to solve this problem. You may have installed a variant of the "VSearch" ad-injection malware. Follow Apple Support's instructions to remove it.
If you have trouble following those instructions, see below.
Malware is always changing to get around the defenses against it. This procedure works as of now, as far as I know. It may not work in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for a more recent discussion, or start a new one.
The VSearch malware tries to hide itself by varying the names of the files it installs. To remove it, you must first identify the naming pattern.
Triple-click the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C:
    /Library/LaunchDaemons
    In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder named "LaunchDaemons" may open. Look inside it for two files with names of the form
              com.something.daemon.plist
    and
               com.something.helper.plist
Here something is a variable string of characters, which can be different in each case. So far it has always been a string of letters without punctuation, such as "cloud," "dot," "highway," "submarine," or "trusteddownloads." Sometimes it's a meaningless string such as "e8dec5ae7fc75c28" rather than a word. Sometimes the string is "apple," and then you must be especially careful not to delete the wrong files, because many built-in OS X files have similar names.
If you find these files, leave the LaunchDaemons folder open, and open the following folder in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents
In this folder, there may be a file named
              com.something.agent.plist
where the string something is the same as before.
If you feel confident that you've identified the above files, back up all data, then drag just those three files—nothing else—to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password. Close the Finder windows and restart the computer.
Don't delete the "LaunchAgents" or "LaunchDaemons" folder or anything else inside either one.
The malware is now permanently inactivated, as long as you never reinstall it. You can stop here if you like, or you can remove two remaining components for the sake of completeness.
    Open this folder:
    /Library/Application Support
If it has a subfolder named just
               something
where something is the same string you saw before, drag that subfolder to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Application Support" folder or anything else inside it.
    Finally, in this folder:
    /System/Library/Frameworks
there may an item named exactly
                v.framework
It's actually a folder, though it has a different icon than usual. This item always has the above name; it doesn't vary. Drag it to the Trash and close the window.
Don't delete the "Frameworks" folder or anything else inside it.
If you didn't find the files or you're not sure about the identification, post what you found.
If in doubt, or if you have no backups, change nothing at all.
The trouble may have started when you downloaded and ran an application called "MPlayerX." That's the name of a legitimate free movie player, but the name is also used fraudulently to distribute VSearch. If there is an item with that name in the Applications folder, delete it, and if you wish, replace it with the genuine article from mplayerx.org.
This trojan is often found on illegal websites that traffic in pirated content such as movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect more of the same, and worse, to follow. Never install any software that you downloaded from a bittorrent, or that was downloaded by someone else from an unknown source.

If you require anti-virus protection Thomas Reed recommends using ClamXAV. (Thank you to Thomas Reed for this recommendation.)
From user Joe Bailey comes this equally useful advice:
    The facts are:
    1. There is no anti-malware software that can detect 100% of the malware out there.
    2. There is no anti-malware that can detect anything targeting the Mac because there
is no Mac malware in the wild, and therefore, no "signatures" to detect.
    3. The very best way to prevent the most attacks is for you as the user to be aware that
the most successful malware attacks rely on very sophisticated social engineering
techniques preying on human avarice, ****, and fear.
    4. Internet popups saying the FBI, NSA, Microsoft, your ISP has detected malware on
your computer is intended to entice you to install their malware thinking it is a
        protection against malware.
    5. Some of the anti-malware products on the market are worse than the malware
from which they purport to protect you.
    6. Be cautious where you go on the internet.
    7. Only download anything from sites you know are safe.
    8. Avoid links you receive in email, always be suspicious even if you get something
you think is from a friend, but you were not expecting.
    9. If there is any question in your mind, then assume it is malware.

  • How do i get keychain off my computer!?!?! Ive tried absolutely everything, keychain won't reset itself. Ive done everything anyone has suggested in apple support. Keep getting pop ups, mail won't work any more, i can't do ANYTHING.

Every time i log into my computer, i get bombarded with pop ups asking me for numerous passwords, i enter the CORRECT ones in for my email accounts and they keep coming up, i cant do anything to get this off. Keychains suck i dont know why anyone would have made these.
I go to the keychain preferences in finder and i try to unlock the local items keychain but it wont because i dont know the password, ive tried any password it could possibly be and it wont go through. I also cant reset it becasue it says "invalid aegument" every time i try to do that in First Aid.
Everything anyone has said to do wont help. I cant even get my mail accounts to come online but they still work in my phone. I even downloaded the newest version 10.9 or whatever and it doesnt work. My mail accounts are all screwed up, so is icloud, and messages app i cant even use it. ive restarted my computer a million times so dont suggest that either.
Oh and for those of you who are going to tell me to go to /library/keychain or anything like that, my computer says that the file or folder doestn exist.

Please follow the directions in this support article. If there's no change, see below.
Back up all data. Open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to keep or delete the keychain items. Choose to delete and confirm. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device. Test.
