I keep getting the blue start up screen. Am I low on ram?

hey
i am unsure what is causing your blue screen but it won't be because you are low on RAM,
RAM is seperate to your hard drive space and you will always have the same amount of RAM unless you upgrade it,  if it was a problem with the amount of ram you had you would of always had those problems if that makes sence.
try booting off the Disk that came with your mac,  or the recovery partition if you are on lion,  then run a disk repair from there to see if that helps.

I have an old iMac (PPC).  When I now start up, I get to the blue screen, I get the beach ball, then the whole computer
    shuts down, including the power.

Timesharing is back.  It's called cloud computing.
    1) Try a safe boot.
Shutdown your machine.  Hold down the shift key.  Poweron.  Wait awhile; wait awhile while you harddrive
         is being checked.

    2) Another way to correct filesystem problems is into single use mode.
This page will tell you how to get into single user mode.

Basically, you hold down the command + s key then  powering on your machine. The command key
has a little apple symbol on the lower left. It is between the alt/option key and the space bar.
Here is a way of using an optical drive off of another mac.
You could try target disk mode if you have another mac around.

I am experiencing some major problems with my MacBook Pro. I have had some issues with it turning on/off at random times, but today, when starting, I get the grey start-up screen and a recovery bar. After filling in approx 1/4 of the way, the machine dies. After starting it in recovery mode, it will not allow me to download OS X Mavericks- it says the disk is locked. Any ideas? I do not have a back-up and do not want to erase everything before I have explored my options. Help?

try forcing internet recover, hold 3 keys - command, option, r - you should see a spinning globe

  • I keep getting the "connect to itunes" screen and have to restore my ipad.  it will also drop the wifi connection every few mintues.  what can be causing this?

I keep getting the "connect to itunes" screen and have to connect to itunes and do a restore on it.  It will not pick up my ipad so I either have to do a restore or restore to new and it will work fine for a day or so except for dropping the wifi connection.  What can be causing this?  I have had this pad since January of this year and have not had any problems until recently.

If you have to keep restoring your iPad with iTunes repeatedly and there is no change after restoring as a new iPad or not from the iPad's backup, your iPad has a major problem - likely a hardware problem. The iPad includes a one year warranty. You can call AppleCare or make an appointment at an Apple store if there is one nearby.

  • My Mac Only turn's on to the Blue start up screen... Help?

My computer was thinking so I re-started it and now Its been over 2 days and when I turn it on, It sits on the blue screen and just has the thinking symbol going.
The picture changes from the apple, to a folder with a question mark in it or a error circle.
I have know Idea why this happened or what to do about, Can I press something to go into a setup menu like on a PC?

Some of the troubleshooting suggestions involve holding down certain keys or key combinations BEFORE the computer actually starts up. Try the PRAM reset first:
Shut down the computer. Then press the power button to turn it on and immediately press Command-Option-P-R and keep these keys depressed until you hear a second chime. It wouldn't hurt to wait for a third chime. Be sure to have the keys depressed before the first chime sounds.
A PRAM reset will often fix some things that prevent the computer from booting up.
If no joy, try holding down "X" as the computer starts up. This might help it to find the OS.
If still no joy, try booting from your install disc. While the computer is on, put the disc in the optical drive. Then shut down the computer. To boot to the disc, hold down "C" after pressing the power button.
If you get to the install disc, select you language and then go to the menu bar > Utilities and select Disk Utility from the menu bar. Highlight your hard drive by brand name and go to the first aid tab. Click on "Repair Disk" at the bottom right and repeat until there is nothing left to repair. Check also that the SMART status is verified. If you get any errors that Disk Utility can't fix or if SMART is not verified, report back with what they are and don't go any further.
At this point, you have a couple of choices. You can quit the installer and see if you can restart from your hard drive. You will get a window that allows you to select your hard drive as the startup disk. Select the hard drive as the startup disk and the "Restart". If you can you are done.
If you can't, then you may want to try reinstalling the OS, using the Archive and Install feature, which should preserve all your setting and data. It would be prudent to have a good up to date backup before reinstalling the OS, just to safeguard agains anything going wrong.
Try these key combinations and see if you can get past the blue screen.
    Good luck!

  • Frozen on the blue start-up screen with spinning wheel -- HELP!

I'm posting this for my sister. She has an Intel iMac, 17"--the first group of Intel iMacs that came out, if that helps. She said that this morning she turned off the power to her house while they were working on some electrical wiring. She didn't power down her iMac before turning off the power to the house. When she went to turn on the iMac, she got a screen with a ton of techno language on it (like terminal-like dialogue--as you can see, I'm not very techie myself). She held down the power button to restart it, but now when it restarts it just gets to the blue screen with the spinning wheel and never gets past that. Any ideas? Keep in mind we're not super technical over here, and I'll need to try to explain all this to her over the phone.

    Hi
Try doing a PRAM reset by restarting the computer whilst holding down -Option(Alt)-P-R keys. After the 3rd chime, release the keys. See if that helps?

  • I keep getting the Firefox start page with Google search. How do I get my homepage back?

When I click the Mozilla Firefox icon, instead of my homepage I get a starter page with Google search. How can I get rid of the starter page and get my homepage back?
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
== Started about a week and a half ago.

    Hello Linda.
I fear your problem may be deeper than your homepage gone missing, but you can change your homepage easily by going into Tools > Options > General and entering the address you want in the "Home Page" field.
I should warn you, however, that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment is outdated and is no longer supported. Please install the latest version for maximum speed, security and functionality. It's completely free, as always. You can get it through Firefox update service (Help > Check for updates...) or at www.getfirefox.com

  • I keep getting the " restart your computer " screen

My iBook G4 goes to the gray "You need to restart..." screen minutes after start up. It won't let me run permission repair before it locks me in the the gray box screen.

What you're seeing is a kernel panic.
Do you have extra RAM installed? If so, try taking out the extra RAM and see if that cures the problem.
Other ideas for resolving kernel panics can be found in the article on Resolving Kernel Panics.

  • I keep getting a blue screen prompt "to enter my Cisco Password" when i start up safari?

I keep getting a blue screen prompt to "enter my Cisco Password" when I start up Safari. Does anyone know why this would be coming up?. The only way for me to get by this message and get on-line is to shut down my computer and re-boot. Has anyone else had this issue?

    Dog,
This has only started coming up since I downloaded a program called Geneio, not sure if that could be the cause. It was **** trying to get rid of that program. NEVER load that program on your Mac. It suppose to be a news update program that flashes up. Never again!

  • Powerbook keeps freezing on the blue "STARTING MAC OS X" screen

Had to reboot about 4 times today and finally I got stuck on the blue screen with the progress bar under the "starting mac os x" message about a quarter full. this is the screen that you get after the grey start-up screen with the apple logo. anyone have any suggestions or ideas? thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple discussions.
First, if you have any hardware connected to yrou PB, unhook it.
I would want to insert the first OS X CD, which says 'AHT Version x.x' on it, and reboot holding the alt/option key down. Choose the Apple hardware test, click the arrow pointing to the right, and follow directions. Choose the extended test. Does it tell you anything?
Another option along the same lines .... insert the first OS X CD, and reboot holding the C key down. This will boot from the CD. The bring up the disk utility, and choose repair permissions, then repair disk. Does the repair disk tell you anything? Eject the CD and try rebooting normally.
And another option is to reboot holding the shift key down. This is a safe boot, and it does some disk maintenance and doesn't load the login items, amongst other things. If this works, try rebooting normally.

I recently purchased Norton stuff and loaded it but dont know how to do all that stuff you said to do.
    okay.
was that Norton Internet Security 2006? if so, right-click on the yellow ticky-Norton thing down in your task bar, and select "Norton Protection Center". click the LiveUpdate button. install everything it says is available at LiveUpdate. restart the PC if it asks you to.
open Norton Protection Center again. click on "Norton AntiVirus". click on "Scans". click on "Run full system scan".
once that's finished, and you've dealt to everything that shows up, do a spyware scan. if you don't have an antispyware program, download and install the free trial version of Ewido, and scan your PC with that.
    ewido anti-malware download
once that's finished, and you've dealt to anything that shows up, go to the Symantec website (they make your Norton), and run one of their online virus scans. they take an eternity, so you may want to do that overnight:
    Symantec Security Check
to do a disk cleanup, go "start > all programs > accessories > system tools > disk cleanup"
to run chkdsk (that's a disk checking/repair utility in Windows), close all active programs, go into My Computer, right-click on your hard drive, select "properties", click on the "tools" tab, and click the "check now" button.
to do a disk defrag, go "start > all programs > accessories > system tools > disk defragmenter"
