When I click the Mozilla Firefox icon, instead of my homepage I get a starter page with Google search. How can I get rid of the starter page and get my homepage back?

I fear your problem may be deeper than your homepage gone missing, but you can change your homepage easily by going into Tools > Options > General and entering the address you want in the "Home Page" field.
I should warn you, however, that the version of Firefox you are using at the moment is outdated and is no longer supported. Please install the latest version for maximum speed, security and functionality. It's completely free, as always. You can get it through Firefox update service (Help > Check for updates...) or at www.getfirefox.com

I'm trying to get the Sync code on my android device in order to retrieve all my bookmarks from my main computer to the tablet pc. The directions on the Mozilla support site say to "Tap the Set up Firefox Sync button on the Firefox Start page." Well I cannot for the life of me find this button or the Firefox start page. Do a malware check with some malware scan programs. You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware. Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of the database before doing a scan.

I have lost the Firefox start page, so can't access the Firefox tab. I keep getting Ask, which I don't want

For some reason I have started to get a blank type page, rather than the Firefox start page when I open firefox. The blank page has no firefox tab at the top left so I cannot access any of the firefox features by the tab. Also the blank page does not show my bookmarked websites which is an inconvenience. Whenever I type in a search word, the results come up in a page of information promoted by 'Ask"'. I don't want this. I don't know how this has happened but I cannot seem to find a fix. I uninstalled firefox and then reinstalled to see if this would work, but it has not. Can someone help please.

Try to use the SearchReset extension to reset some preferences to the default values.

This appeared after a re-install due to a virus. On installing Firefox 6 it immediately went to foxstart as a home page, I cannot get rid of this or get back to the firefox start page, I have uninstalled Firefox and re installed but still get the same problem. When I click on the Firefox icon on my XP desktop, I just get a blank page. Sometimes it just goes to Yahoo.

There appears to be a MAJOR issue (hang/memory leak) in "about:home", also known as the Firefox Start Page, in Firefox 26.0 on Windows!

There appears to be a MAJOR issue (hang/memory leak) in "about:home", also known as the Firefox Start Page, in Firefox 26.0, on Windows!
observed on:
- Windows 7 x64 machine with 12GB RAM and high-performance CPU (core i7-920)
- Virtual Machine guest running WinXP SP3 (in Oracle VirtualBox) on the same machine
- Intel Atom D525 netbook with 4GB RAM, running Win7 x64
Neither of these machines are connected via Sync or anything like that. The Firefox instance on the VM is a fresh/clean install.
The problem:
- 100% cpu usage for 10 seconds, memory usage (PF usage in XP) goes up to 1.7GB
- if "about:home" is the Firefox Start Page, effectively it hangs the computer at Firefox startup for 10 seconds
- if "about:home" is NOT the Firefox Start Page, startup is fine - BUT if I press the "home" button on the toolbar it loads "about:home" which causes the same issue again

Thank you cor-el! Your suggestion has solved the problem on my WinXP VM which I was using to test, and I will soon confirm that it has also solved the problem on my primary Win7 desktop.

While installing a PDF conversion program, start now/bing was installed, and after removal, instead of my home page, I have the Firefox start page even though mine is in the control panel.

You pretty much have it. Primopdf was the initial program, and zugoremovaltool was the remove tool. Prior to zugo, I had removed by add/remove in the control panel as well as going into program files and windows and deleting the programs. While trying to remove primopdf, I discovered it had its own uninstall program, which I ran. I restored my home page to the control panel only still to have start now/bing. I ran zugo and restored my home page to the control panel only to be stuck with the Firefox start page.

I thought about that before and tried it, and it doesn't seem to make a difference. I did it just now, I opened a blank tab and closed everything else, waited a minute then closed Firefox. I waited another minute and launched Firefox. The Restore Previous Session box was there on about:home. I clicked it and it opened a new window with about:home in it.

Is this the Firefox branded Google page? If it is, Firefox can store multiple home pages and you may have 2 home pages set. Follow the instructions to set a single home page in this link - https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+set+the+home+page

How do I stop Firefox from opening the Firefox start page as a tab when I open the browser?

New Dell Laptop and new Firefox download. Have used Firefox for several years. This time it loads the Firefox Start Page automatically as a tab every time I open the browser. I can't find how to turn it off. I did not set it up to do this intentionally.

I want Google as my primary browser when I open the firefox start page

When I open the firefox start page and type a question, the answer is provided by Ask.com. I don't want ask.com to be my primary browser on this home page. I want Google. How do I make Google my primary browser on the firefox start page?

I did manage to paste that code in the location bar and for that brief episode I had a google search engine for the fire start page. However, when I closed id down and re-booted the page, it reverted to ask.com as the primary search engine so that really did not solve my problem. By the way, the start page that I have does not show google to the left of the large central bar of the start page. I wonder if I should uninstall google 7 and reinstall it? I probably would lose my favorites and I don't want to lose them by doing this. Somewhere in this computer ask.com is flourishing just like a virus. I removed it's toolbar permanently both in extensions and in the programs section to no avail.

Since one of the Firefox updates this past week my homepage defaults to the Firefox Start Page when I reboot. Setting homepage in Options is retained thoughout session but appears to disappear on restart. Anyone else have this problem?

Starting Firefox after system startup brings up the Firefox Start Page. When I go to Options under the General tab the Homepage box is blank. I can add it again and everything is fine until next system restart. I am using Firefox 3.6.12

Your fan(s) will run at high speed (i.e., loudly) while video is playing, and you can't get around that.
If your fans are not slowing down within 2-4 minutes after CPU- and/or GPU-intensive usage ends, and the application that was showing the video is still running, Quit that application. (In fact, if you're accustomed to Windows, you may not realize that simply closing a Mac application's window does not quit the application. You still need to use the Quit command in the application-name menu. There will always be a bright dot beside or below the application icon in your Dock for each application that is open.) Quit the ones you aren't using, and see whether that allows the fans to slow down without restarting the machine. If that doesn't do the trick, reset the SMC:
