I keep losing my I Google home page which reverts to another I Google page

I am on Firefox V8. I am now losing my I google home page which reverts to a standard I Google page. If I open using IE it will bring my I Google homepage up correctly (Nothing wrong with Google) I have not done anything to Firefox v8 or altered any settings

Do you have a Google or Gmail account? If so, are you signed in? (is your name or email address in the top right of the page)

  • How do I keep programs from changing my home page

Everytime Firefox starts, another program keeps changing my home page. How do I stop this from happening?

This could be caused by either of the following (and possibly other things, but these are the ones that come to mind first):
    (1) Bad Extension
You can review/disable/remove nonessential or unrecognized extensions here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    (2) user.js file
This is a configuration file that overrides changes you made in Firefox every time you exit and restart the browser. To track down and remove such a file, check out the steps in this article: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
Note: if it comes back, the home page URL might provide a cue as to what program on your computer is creating/editing the user.js file.

Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar and do a search for <i>jzip</i> via the Filter at the top of the about:config page.<br />
You can reset all <i>jzip</i> related prefs that appear bold (user set) via the right-click context menu to their default values.

  • How do you keep the settings on the home page from changing?

On my firefox home page it was set to no graphics, now it's changed to a simulation of the game space invaders.
This is the same type of thing that Yahoo, aol, google ALL do. I was under the impression you DO NOT do this type of stuff. I guess I was wrong!

To narrow the search for the problem -
Try opening Firefox in Safe Mode by holding down the Shift Key as click on the Firefox icon,
and try re-setting your Home page via Options>General>When Firefox starts Show a blank page.
Does the problem persist in either of these two cases?
Do you have any extensions or third-party toolbars.?
Have you tried a malware scan?

  • When I open firefox previously viewed tabs keep opening instead of the home page and I can't get rid of them

All I can do is minimise each tab, open my home page from favourites, and then press the red X in the minimised box.

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the <b>browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once</b> pref to true.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: "Open with"; do not double-click).
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can delete the user.js file if you didn't create this file yourself.

  • When selecting a website the website does not load, I keep going back to my home page?

If I receive a message to my mailbox and there is a link within the message, the url does not load. It does open FireFox but goes to my home page on Firefox.

BY removing avg toolbar from your firefox adds-on should remove this problem

  • Will not open up with the home page I have specifed on navigator toolbar I have gone through all the settings but it reverts to another home page when I restart the PC

I want my page to open up with google which it has until lately when I downloaded jzip and since then it always opens up with http://search.jzip.com/ instead of http://www.google.com.au/ When it comes up with jzip I change it to google and request it to be my home page and it stays that way till I restart the pc and it reverts back to izip and I have to go through the same process to change back to google, it never used to do this at times when I have down loaded information it has changed but I have always been able to revert to the correct home page and it stay that way but not any more.
The jzip is in the navigator toolbar section as are other websites but this is the only one that keeps being used as the home page hope you can find a solution as it is very annoying.

You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location bar and do a search for <i>jzip</i> via the Filter at the top of the about:config page.<br />
You can reset all <i>jzip</i> related prefs via the right-click context menu to their default values.
