I have a macbook pro running 10.8.5. I know little about computers but have started my computer in safe boot as this is the only way I can connect to Safari.

I am currently in safeboot as Safari will not open otherwise. my emails are working fine. I do not know much about computers but looked at a couple of previous discussions and have pasted the results of an Etrecheck - please can you tell me why Safari isnt running like usual! my daughter likes using my computer for games but she has another user id. I use a Mac so I don't know precisely how it's done on a Windows box. Nevertheless, you should be able to drag your video into iTunes' Movies section or Podcasts section at the top of the sidebar.
Any video must be in a format acceptable to iTunes and your iPad. If they aren't, then you need to get a utility that can convert them. I'm not familar with Windows utilities but I'm sure there are many that will work.

Oh my! Obviously, I don't know what I'm doing. But I do know that my goal was to do both---backup AND free some space. My iMAc is old (2006) and I upgraded it a year or so ago to Snow Leopard. I didn't think I had the capability of backing up without an external drive, but maybe I do since I upgraded. Do I?

Thank you so much for beng so prompt with your reply and patient with mine. I tried for so long to see the dialog box with the library listings. When I launched iPhoto, even with holding down the Option key, it kept immediately launching into the full screen. Finally, after an hour of doing it over and over again, it worked when I held the key down for 5 minutes. Then when I was typing my reply, I kept getting a message to "Request Time Out." Didn't know how to do that, so kept hitting the OK button and kept typing for another half minute. Finally, when ready to send, Safari couldn't do it. "Try again" exasperated me until I realized I would have to begin again and use Firefox. When I got there and ready to type, I got the message that my message had been retrienved and did I want to use it?!!

How did the photos that you want to copy off get on the iPad ? To copy photos to your computer that were taken with the iPad, copied to it via the camera connection kit, or saved from emails/websites then see this page - on a Mac you should be able to use iPhoto, Aperture or Image Capture
To copy photos that were originally synced from a computer you will need a third-party app on your iPad such as Simple Transfer which can copy them off via your wifi network. But as photos are 'optimised' when they are synced to the iPad, any that you then copy back to a computer may not be exactly the same as they originally were on your computer.

That's really enough information. You can update this iPad to iOS 6.1.2. If there is a microphone icon next to the space bar on the keyboard, you have an iPad 3. But if you are saying that it hasn't been touched for over a year, it probably is not the iPad 3. The iPad 3 is one year old this week IIRC.
If you want, you can go to Settings >General>About>Model to find the model number and it you Google that, you can find out which version of the iPad it is.
I just wanted to see what iOS you would be able to update to. I'm not sure what else to tell you other than what we've already stated. You should set this up as new, update the iOS and then start all over again with you own iTunes content.
The link that Eric posted would be a good place to start so that you can get an idea of what the iPad can do. If you want to restore the iPad back to factory settings, you will need to do this with iTunes on your Mac. You must be running OS X 10.6.8 at minimum and must be using iTunes 10.6.3 (I think) in order to syn with iTunes on the Mac.

if you are that uncomfortable trying to do this on your own, and if there is an Apple Store near you, make an appointment at an Apple Store Genius Bar and ask an Apple tech to help you with it. That is what they do. There is no charge for an Apple Store Genius Bar visit. The stores also offer classes for the iPad that you might find useful as well.

It the device is still on your network and still offering services, it will be listed as available. If it leaves the network or stops offering services, it should leave the list of available servers.
I suppose it might be handy to have a "hide this server" or "pretend this server doesn't exist" button, but we don't have one.

Buying Used Nano but know nothing about iPod...Need help!!!

Hello, first off let me say I know nothing about iPods. I want to buy a used one. I was told that iTunes will only recognize 1 iPod. The person I am buying it from tells me that she is unable to sync both her new iPod and old iPod to her itunes. She gets a message stating that only one iPod can be synced to iTunes. I don't want to purchase this from her only to find that it will not sync to my iTunes.
Does iTunes have some sort of security feature that will prevent me from purchasing this from her and syncing it with my iTunes? If so can I reset an iPod back to factory settings?

When I click on "network" it shows "b67446000000" with a computer monitor icon and "connection failed". When I right click on this and select "Get more info" it displays nothing, just the spinning wheel. When I select "Connect As" it asked for my password to connect to "Server b67446000000". This may have been on my computer since I got it, I never paid much attention. Is this part of the operating system or has someone hijacked my computer? Why would I need a server...it's just me and my one computer? Maybe someone has hacked in through Airport? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Is your airport a Time Capsule.. if so it is able to serve files on the network.
The number is the MAC address of the network in the router.
Please reset the apple router whatever is and redo the setup.. this time give it a simple name.. eg TCgenX where X is the actual gen of the unit and give it a simple wireless name.. TCwifi and a simple password with 8-20 characters mix of upper and lower case and numbers.
Perhaps even better give me a screenshot from the computer of the airport utility showing me the Airport with its MAC address.
