It probably overheated and shut down. Hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons until an Apple logo appears. This will take 10 to 15 seconds of holding both buttons.

You said "reset," so Meg assumed that's what you did. But "reset" is not a button; to reset the phone you must hold the HOME and SLEEP buttons at the same time until an Apple logo appears. You may have to hold for up to 30 seconds, and if the battery was completely drained, you will have to restore iOS using iTunes on your computer.

My phone keeps shutting off and saying "connect to iTunes." So I did and nothing happened. it says to restore it but I want to keep all my messages and photos etc i just want it to turn on so i can sync it and then ill restore it. sometimes the screen stays black but the light will come on or it will just keep restarting. please help

My phone randomly shut off. When I turned it back on it said it needed to restore, to plug it into itunes. When I did, and tried to restore it, it failed with a code 21. I have followed all the instructions, it still isn't working. I've uninstalled and reinstalled all that the steps told me to, I've updated everything in my computer. I don't know what else to do. My phone will just show the apple sign and the itunes plug in sign.

The Ipad Air was working fine - then it went blank. It will not turn on again. It was fully charged It is less than 2 months old.
A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 15-20 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.

Try to reset the device:

My boyfriend and I both have iphone4's and we both did the 7.3 update this morning. My phone is still working properly but his just shut off after he'd taken a call and now he can't get it to turn back on. Coincidence? I've had the same thing happen to me when an app starts to lag, shutting it off will burn it on the screen, not allowing you to enter your passcode for the Iphone. It is frustrating but do as @kb1951 said. It worked for me.
