I locked my iMac and forgot the password

I locked my Mac computer and forgot the password. i cannot get anything other then the sign in where i need the password. can anyone help?

Restart your mac and hold the Command and R key. It should take you into Recovey Mode. Now select Utilities from the menu bar on top and then click terminal. In the terminal app, type 'resetpassword' (without quotes) and select your user account and click reset password. Now restart your mac by selecting the apple logo from menu bar and you can enter your new password!
