I lose internet connection after shutting down

I lose my internet connection whenever I shut down my desktop. I know it's not my modem or router because laptops, iphones and ipods all have a great signal and connection. This only started happening after I downloaded the latest software update 2 weeks ago. I have a Motorola modem and Apple extreme router.

last two days exactly the same - it states that my network is not available and yet shows it, I then have to re enter the password, also date had reverted back to Jan 1st, however, there was one bonus, scrole on the mouse now works correctly again!

  • WRT54GL: Losing Internet Connection after shutting down computers

I've got a Linksys wireless router, the WRT54GL.
When we set up the router and connect to the internet everything works fine. But when we shut down our wired computers and restart the laptop, the internet connection is gone, but I keep my local area connection. I already have done a firmware upgrade (v4.30)
Our configuration is as following: A Zyxel Multi-user PC modem, straight cable from normal interface to the WAN interface of the linksys router. Our (2) computers are connected by cable to the router, while we use the laptop for wireless connection.
Any suggestions to fix this problem?
    Jeroen

Open routers set up page using http://192.168.1.1 ..... leave username blank & in password use admin ....
Click wireless tab..... use any non-linksys network name (SSID) ..... use channel either 1 or 11 ..... click save settings .....
Click wireless security subtab .... use security level either WEP or WPA ....... have a note of the key ....
On laptop try to connect to network ....... or configure the wireless utility (if you are using WLAN) ..... see if it makes any difference or not ....

  • MBA loses internet connection after waking from sleep

I have a new Macbook Air running Mavericks and new 802.11ac Airport Extreme router.
My problem is that the MBA drops the internet connection after waking from sleep. I tried the solution offered by the OP, but it didn't work.
In my case, here's what I have to do to get a connection again. I open the Network preference pane, and then choose "Assist me..." and then "Diagnostics". Invariably it will show a green light beside Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Settings and Network Settings. I have 5 bars showing in the WiFi menu bar icon. But ISP, Internet and Server will be yellow.
When I go through the steps prompted by the wizard, the ISP/Internet/Server lights turn green on the third screen where I select the wireless network I want to join.
It seems as if it's connecting to the WiFi network when it wakes from sleep, but losing the internet connection?
Note: I have a new iMac as well running Mavericks and don't have this problem with it.

The warranty entitles you to complimentary phone support for the first 90 days of ownership.
If you bought the product in the U.S. directly from Apple (not from a reseller), you have 14 days from the date of delivery in which to exchange or return it for a refund. In other countries, the return policy may be different. If you bought from a reseller, its return policy applies.

  • All browsers lose internet connection after awhile

After upgrading Safari and Java yesterday, all of my internet browsers are losing connection after awhile (10 - 15 minutes), until I disable and enable Airport. However, when the browsers are dosconnected, the airport connection is still ok, because Mail stays connected. The disconnection in the browsers happens randomly.
So if 1 browser suddenly disconnects, all the other browsers cannot connect either. Mail stays connected. Browsers only connect after I disable and enable Airport
    I tried the following stuff:
    repair disk permission
    maintenance
    cleared java's cache
    rebooted osx a few times
    reseted router

    Hi Tim
What does your Application/Browser log say in 'console' ?

  • WRT350N, Loses Internet Connection after several days of working.

My WRT350N worked fine for 4 days after instalation then stoped communicating with my Linksys modem.  I returned my first WRT350N to Best Buy after a day of troubleshooting, and several calls to Comcast, my cable  provider.. Assuming I had a bad router I got a replacement, and after 3 days the replacement router did the same thing, losing its internet connection.  I found it pecular that I could connect to the router. it looked like it was connected to the modem, but would not make an internet connection, even after restarting my Linksys BEFCMU10 Cable Modem and router several times.   I could only make a connection if I pluged my computer directly into the modem.  I also check for firmware updates and at the time there were no firmware updates.I returned my second WRT350N to Best Buy requesting a refund and re-installed my original WRT54GS.  Does the latest version of firmware resolve this specific problem?  Judging by the inquires on this forum, it would appear that alot of users are experenceing this same problem.  I really like the Idea of the Storage Link, but I think I will wait till they work out there problems with the WRT350N, before I buy another Linksys product.

I suffer from the exact same problem you describe ever since I bought my WRT350N 3 weeks ago. I do not have a solution for you unfortunately. Maybe if everyone with a WRT350N with this problem chimes in here, Linksys will take note.

  • Server loses internet connection after creating virtual switch in hyper-v

On a fresh Server 2012R2 Essentials install, I set up Hyper-v and created an external virtual switch. Connection to the vm is good but Health Report no shows loss of internet connectivity and that the router is incorrectly setup.
However, I still have a working internet connection? I worry that the server may not update or allow Anywhere Access at some time. Any suggestions? Thanks

If Hyper-V virtual switch behaves strange and server is destined for testing, then it's correct and I recomend delete this virtual switch and create it again.
Here is some issues with internet connection and Hyper-V switch, none of them does not match your problem, but can be inspirative for troubleshooting:
Windows 8 Hyper-V - how to give VM internet access?
Hyper-V kills internet connection when bridging
Configuring Hyper-V for multiple subnets with only one NIC (Server 2008 R2 Edition)
How does basic networking work in Hyper-V?

  • Power Mac G4 loses internet connection after going to sleep

Run down of computer: I have a Power Mac G4 tower, PANTHER OSX. I have wireless internet through our cable company—I use a wireless router. When I am connected to the internet, and browsing the web or something, if I let the computer go to sleep, it loses connection. I have to go back up to the little signal icon and reconnect to my wireless network.
I suspected it might be a setting through the router, but when my computer was comletely unplugged, and absent from the apartment, the other computer (G5 imac–TIGER) which was having the same problem, suddenly was staying connected even after going to sleep. When my computer came back home and was hooked back up, suddenly the other computer had the same problem again. So, I concluded that my G4 tower was the culprit, and perhaps not the router. We share a wirless network, so it's not surprising that this is the case.
I know there must be a setting somewhere in preferences or something that is telling the computer to disconnect from network when computer sleeps. I have looked everywhere, and can not figure it out.
It's really annoying to have to reconnect each time I use my computer. And just to reiterate, I get internet through a cable modem using my airport card, so please answer the question with this in mind as settings are totally different from dial-up. I do not use PPP.
Anyone experience this problem? Or know how to help?

    Tried that too! Notta.
This one's really a pickle! Even the Mac specialist at my office was baffled! He suggested shortening the name of my computer...(Jamie Cendroski's computer)...I didn't really understand how this had anything to do with it...but he's supposed to be the expert. He also suggested trashing my keychains and making new ones. I messed around with them, but I don't know enough about this stuff to be bold enough to trash them yet. I'll do a little more research before I do so. I think he might be onto something with the keychains though..?

  • Retaining internet settings after shut down

Average pc user but novice mac user seeks help...
Using airport I can connect to the internet but everytime I shut the Mac down I have to go through the process of reconfiguring a new "location" to get back online.
Any ideas as to how I get the settings stored properly please?
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

I have regularly experienced similar problems with dial-up, which I frequently use on travel around the US. Virtually all internal modem configuration settings I've entered are dropped from memory within a day. This morning my "Main Number" configuration (I had two different configurations/phone numbers entered just three days ago) shows no Telephone number.
    What goes?

  • Toshiba 46TL938G loses WLan configuration after shut down

    Hello,
46TL938G unpacked yesterday, upgraded firmware from Internet.
Wireless set up with WPS works, but configuration is lost after turning the TV off/ back on.
I cannot use assisted configuration because of hidden SSID.
In manual mode I always get information about improper autorhization and/or unsupported encryption. Access point uses WPA2-PSK AES.
Is there any way to make WPS setting stick??

    Any news?
I would recommend you to try different configuration scenarios:
    - try password which are no longer than 8-10 characters.
    - try different encryptions: WPE / WPA-PSK / WPA2-PSK (AES, TKIP or AES and TKIP)
    - try to connect with Pre-Authentication ON and OFF
    - try to connect to WLan using option Hidden Network - enabled or disabled

  • Macbook Air loses internet connection after I close the cover

This happens all the time. Whenever I walk away from the computer, I'll close the cover for security. When I return, I'll be prompted for my password.
After I sign back in, on the top, I'll still have my five bars for network connectivity. But if I try to refresh or open a webpage, it will time out.
If I switch from one wifi network to another, it works. I have a dual-band router with a 2.4g and 5g network running. This problem occurs if I'm connected to either, and switching to the other network makes the internet work. Also, in the case of Facebook, after it times out I can then put in Facebook.com and then it goes back to pulling up normally.

If it disconnects, you can use the icon in the menubar to reconnect rather than restart.
If the icon isn't in the menubar then go to System Preferences > Network > Select WiFi on the left > check "Show WiFi status in the menubar"

  • Lose internet connection after few days.

I have a Linksys Wireless router WRT54GL. And it was working fine, and then today it wouldn't allow access to the internet though wired or wireless. The only way for me to get it to work again is to reset to factory default. The only thing I change from factory default is the wireless connection. Other then that every thing is basicly kept the same. I just make it WPAP with TKIP and a WPA shared key. Now that connection till works, but the router just won't give access to the internet. Wireless or wired, it just won't give it out till I reset the factory default. Any insight would be great. Thank you! Jeremy.

Well it did it again when I woke up today. I looked at the status before restoring factory default's and it showed the IP address of my ISP, and it showed the domain name of my ISP. My ISP uses DHCP, so I tried to renew it before restoring default, but that didn't work ether. Let me try to think, I got my high speed on a Tuesday, and from Tuesday to Friday it worked fine. Friday I got my Vonage router, then this all started to happen. Do you think my Vonage router might have some thing to do with this? Any help would be greatly loved! lol Thanks

  • In 2 node RAC. After shutting down database not able to connect.

    I have 2 node Oracle 10g RAC (RAC-1 and RAC-2) on Windows 2003 Server.
After shutting down instance on RAC-2
I am not able to connect to database from any node.
    I did this on RAC-2 :
    SQL>shutdown immediate;
         Database went down smoothly.
    SQL>conn sys/oracle@rac as sysdba
    ERROR:
ORA-12514: TNS:listener does not currnetly know of services requested in connect descriptor.
My first node is running fine but I am not able to connect to database from first node or from client.
    Any suggestion???
    Regards:
    Sushil

One question I want to ask, what should be the Listener Services startup mode in RAC? MANUAL or AUTOMATIC???Ideally, if you are instances and other oracle resources are set to autostart then there is no reason for you to set the listener to MANUAL. You may like to change it to AUTOMATIC so that on reboot it comes up without manual intervention.

  • HT4356 After shutting down my router and PC,  I can get my iPad to wirelessly connect to my HP 3050A printer.  After a period of time the connection is lost and I have to start all over shutting things down.  The PCM never looses connection with the print

After shutting down the router and connected PC, I can get my iPad to connect to air print to my HP 3050A printer.  Connection is lost after time and I have to start the whole process over again.  Any ideas?  Thanks.

Thanks for the response Grant.  I had both set to "never" and the power connected.  I did however find while searching the forum page, an answer already given to another enquiry.  The security/general tab.  I had it checked, now unchecked am hoping it will solve my problem.  Thanks again, Cebustu.
