I lose my password

I want download an application but I lose my password what can I do please

Put your install DVD into the optical drive (CD/DVD drive) and reboot. Be sure to either use the disc that came with your Mac, or, if you installed a later Mac OS X version from disc, use the newer disc. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option Key until the Install Disk shows up) until the apple shows up. That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
When it does start up, you'll see a panel asking you to choose your language. Choose your language and press the Return key on your keyboard once. It will then present you with an Installation window. Completely ignore this window and click on Utilities in the top menu and scroll down to Reset Password. After resetting the password use Startup Disk from the same menu to choose your hard drive for startup and restart.

In Firefox 3.6 on Windows you can hide the menu bar via "View > Toolbars" or via the right click context menu on a toolbar.
Press and hold the Alt key down to bring up the menu bar.
Go to "View > Toolbars" or right-click the menu bar or press Alt+V T to select which toolbars to show or hide.

  • IPad loses exchange password often.

Several of our iPads lose their exchange passwords. It will contiually promt for you to reenter the password many times.  Even if you put in the correct password, it will kepp prompting.  Very annoying and now someone overseas can't get their email which is a major problem.  In happens to me on iOS 5 and to others running previous versions.

Has anyone following this thread gotten anywhere with Apple on this?  (I know someone was going to the Apple Store to consult with a Genius, interested to know how that went).  I opened a ticket with Apple Tech Support and their suggestion was to create a Gmail account (of all things) and see if the problem occured there.  Plan on calling them back today before I take off for the Thanksgiving holiday but I doubt they have gone anywhere.  We are getting about a user a day we have to walk through the procedure (power off device, restart, reenter password if needed) and it's more of an annoyance than anything else but it would be nice to have this fixed.

  • Workgroup Manager loses all passwords when the Xserver is rebooted

Hi all.. I'm a newbie with Mac server, an MCSE and former Network Adminstrator of an all Windows domain, now in a mixed environment and responsible for the Mac server/clients as well as the Windows server/clients.
In January we attempted a migration from Panther server to Tiger/Xserve, on a brand new server. It appeared to have worked, and users were able to log in successfully after being created in Workgroup Manager, and given passwords.
Our problem is huge!! We cannot reboot this server!! Therefore, we cannot do upgrades, for just one problem. What happens when we reboot is that ALL passworeds in Workgroup Manager have to be entered again!
Any help will be gratefully appreciated!

    Tony,
I wish to thank you for the helpful comments/suggestions to download the article at:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=ServerAdmin/10.4/en/c3gs4.html
It was an excellent quick guide that I followed to the letter, and then I called Apple Support and was able to further troubleshoot our server/client connection issues. When I left at the end of the day, the server is in great shape, although we still have some connection issues and tomorrow one of our Mac teachers who used to manage our Mac server will show me how to re-create the shared folders/shares and then add the users to the shares.
The good news is that the users are now semi-connecting, with the peppermint-stick progress indicator, but then a failure message that refers to the shares.
Your link to the article was a terrific start for me, and the Apple technician was most impressed that I had already covered all of the suggestions in that article when we spoke.
Thanks... one more post after a complete success, hopefully tomorrow... which I will probably spend re-creating all users and shares..

  • Every week I seem to lose my passwords for my Mac Pro mail service. Cant get or send emails.

Today, as in the past, all of a sudden my email (apple Mail) lost my passwords and I cannot send or receive emails.  All the mailboxes have icons of a tilda or a stop sign.  Where do I go to get this fixed? I have tried a private contractor, and ATT support help to no avail.

Mac OS X 10.4.7 introduced connection issues in Mail similar to what you’re observing as a result of (according to the documentation) “Mail now supports connecting to mail servers through a SOCKS proxy”. If that’s the problem, it can usually be fixed by going to System Preferences > Network, choosing the network port configuration used to connect to Internet from the Show popup menu and disabling the SOCKS Proxy in the Proxies section, if it’s enabled.
And while you’re at it, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.

  • Every time I shut down my computer, it loses all passwords that I told it to remember. How do I get it to remember those passwords?

I have been through the troubleshooting and everything is set correctly. It remembers all passwords as long as I leave the computer running. After I turn it off, no passwords are remembered.

Do you mean names and passwords in the Password Manager or do you mean that you are no longer logged on to (remembered by) websites after closing and restarting Firefox?
    * Websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie.
    * You must allow that cookie (Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: Exceptions), especially for secure websites and if you let cookies expire when Firefox closes
    * Make sure that you do not use [[Clear Recent History]] to clear the "Cookies" and the "Site Preferences"

  • Every time I sync my iPhone 4 I lose the password to my GFs wifi network.

then i have to retype it next time i want to use it. I already changed the security for it to WEP. How do I fix this? It's giving me the sh*ts
    thanks,
    zac

Check the router settings to see if it is hiding the SSID, that can cause this. If this is the case, you can un-hide the SSID since hiding it is really doesn't accomplish much (e.g. there are free apps that show hidden networks). Also, you might consider using WPA2 rather than WEP, it is much stronger encryption than WEP.

  • Will I lose my saved passwords if I upgrade to 4.0?

I want to upgrade to Firefox 4.0, but I don't want to lose the passwords that my current version (3.0.13) has saved. Will this be a problem if I do upgrade, or will 4.0 retain my previously saved passwords?

You shouldn't lose your passwords when upgrading to Firefox 4.0, but you '''are''' "skipping over" 3.5 and 3.6 so you should back up your entire Firefox Profile just-in-case. Version to the next version updates present the least number of problems, but skipping over two major versions can sometimes cause data loss.

  • The passwords and usernames i have for my sites got erased, how can i get them back or reset them so when i open them they nolonger ask me por that info like gmail

Firefox deleted all of my saved usernames and passwords for the sites i allowed them, For instance I can no longer click gmail and be at my e-mail and see my email, but i am promoted for password and username.

''passwords and usernames i have for my sites got erased''
Did you have them after updating Firefox, or did you lose your passwords as well. If you lost everything you either created a new profile and are in it, or you accidentally/intentionally cleared your history (see picture link). If you cleared your history, the changes are permanent and they are gone.
If you cleared your history, except for bookmarks in backups, you will have to try for
#Data in an older profile, for most people this would only be if one accidentally created a new profile, such as during a Firefox installation.
    #Your own backups
#Old password, cookies from Internet Explorer
Use the "Alt" key to temporarily see your toolbars. Use the view menu to display any toolbars that should be displayed, such as the Bookmarks Toolbar.
    Check these:
*Do you have bookmarks Ctrl+B (Bookmarks sidebar), if you don't see your own bookmarks but you see those from when you first installed Firefox, you are probably in a new profile, using the Profile Manager could bring up another profile.
*Check your current bookmarkbackups for dates
:On current profile, you can check dates, and restore/replace current bookmarks from a backup. "Ctrl+Shift+B" to bring up the Library List, then in the "Import and Backup" menu, choose Restore to see what dates are available. This will tell you the last 11 dates you used your current profile in Fx5 (5 days if Fx3). You can restore if your bookmarks are messed up.
Profile: ''Find out if there are multiple profiles''
:type in '''about:support''' into the location bar<br>:Click on "Open containing folder"<br>:You are now in your current profile<br>:go up one directory level to "'''Profiles'''", where you can see if you have more than one profile directory<br>:files of interest (check last used/update dates) within profile: places.sqlite file, and within bookmarkbackups folder are .json bookmark backups for dates.
'''Deleting History/Lost History''' (Tools -> options -> Privacy), make sure you are not clearing in "Settings for Clearing History" anything but cache. The items you have check-marked there will be cleared at end of session if "Clear history when Firefox closes" is check-marked. If under tools you click on "Clear recent history Ctrl+Shift+Del" you should be asked for how much history to delete {1hr, 2hr, 4hr, today, everything} and what to clear in the details drop-down. Make sure when using the location bar you are displaying both "History and Bookmarks" so the AwesomeBar can look for items from both.

'''You should be backing your for Firefox profiles''', there is not a lot of data and you should be backing up frequently. The is a lot more data for other applications in you Windows user library and you should be backing up data from there as well.
When you backup all of your user data to external hard-drive (500GB to 3TB) your Firefox profiles would be included.
But this is about Firefox. For Firefox a thumb drive would probably suffice to backup one or more profiles.
'''backing up your Firefox Profiles''' (the following is all on one line)
    xcopy C:\Users\''<username>''\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\*.* g:\profiles\*.* /s /d /h /y /c /q

  • IPad 2 on iOS 5.1 losing wifi password.

I've updated my iPad 2 to iOS 5.1 and now it won't keep the wifi password. Each time I have to re-input the password. Sometimes it loses the password whilst I'm using it and just disconnects. It was fine on 5.0 but it's doing my nut in now. I'm sure this is a software glitch so Apple sort it out! My new iPad has had this problem once since I've had it, but the iPad 2 won't remember the password no matter what. It's not hardware as it worked fine for a year before this update.

1- What type of security are you using?  (WEP, WPA, WPA2, etc.)
2- Do you have your router set to hide your network's SSID (network name)?
WEP seems to be problematic with iOS devices, and it is not very good security anyway.  Using WPA2 is far better and plays nice with iOS.
Hiding your SSID can be problematic with iOS devices (my son's Mac had a problem with that too).  There really is no need to hide your SSID since that doesn't protect you in any way, it is quite easy to sniff around and find your network (I have a free app for that, so that tells you how prevalent such 'tools' are).

  • Problem with Mail losing passwords

I have owned a MacBook Pro for a year now and mail rarely works correctly.  I have 4 email accounts and they continue to lose the passwords, and will not accept the passwords even though they are correct.  Every once in a while they all work, but most of the time some or all with not connect - sometimes they will all receive but not send and sometimes nothing will work.  The message just continues to come up over and over again asking for the passwords.  I am about to give up on Apple and go back to my PC since I have never had a problem like this with Outlook.  Any advice?

And they show up fine on the other one still?
Are the ones not Imported in a different location, like "On my Mac" instead of with the other ones, or vice versa?
Can you post a pic of the Mailboxes expanded and point out the ones missing?

You are being a rediculous rationalizer.
If you can't change anything or help at all, why respond just to rationalize and twist what I'm asking?
And to assume I read the article before this happened was silly.
I am saying clearly, this is buggy  behaviour that should be changed.
Every other thing when you encrypt a backup, you are encrypting the backup, not disabling your ability to every make an unencrypted backup again if you forget those backup passwords.
I know you have no means to change it and absolutely nothing helpful to add I don't already know whch I indicated had you bothered to read instead of jumping in with the rationalizations and repeating what i already said.  You are just talking to yourself with rediculous remarks like "blame yourself" for not taking some article seriuosly I had not read and should not have had to, because it's a silly buggy quirk in the design I hope apple will address.
You must not work much with encrypted backups with other companies to not understand, usually, when you're encyrpting a backup, you're encrypting that file, not preventing yourself from ever making an unencrypted backup again if you lose the password.  Backups and the phone are two different things.  Please do not respond with unhelpful ignorance again.  You have no clue what you are talking about in terms of security implications.  Turning backups off would not let you "take apart an encrypted backup" if it's encrypted properly.  The encryption is in the backup file itself, which would have no affect on creating unencrypted backups after deleting the old encrypted ones.  I tried to be graceful but you really have no clue of the security implications and you are being very silly saying I should have taken an article seriously I hadn't read until I ran into this quirky behavior.  You have no idea what choice is.  Wow.  You know, it's possible for someone to want to change a password they forgot on backups without having to wipe out their whole phone config, messages, etc.  This in no way jepordizes the security of backups made with the old password. You are being clueless on this.  Please do not respond if all you have to add is rationalizations of how any other way would be insecure when you don't know what you're talking about.  You're snide remark that someone "does't know security" if they want to turn off encrypted phone backups or change the password on future backups, if they forgot it displays a huge amount of ignorance not worth trying to correct.  Apple's great.  Doesn't mean they don't make mistakes.

  • How secure is master password?

    Hi
I have very sensitive information on my iBook. I can choose
master password after screen saver/sleep or FileVault.
FileVault encrypts the info which I feel uncomfortable with
as it may make it difficult to backup.
Can the password be removed by a someone who takes the
computer? Is there any way around the master password.
If the hard drive has to be erased to clear the password
then I feel safe with password.
I go to coffee shops alot, I am careful so far but someday I
    may slip.
    thanks in advance
    Mark
    iBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   750 mb ram

    Hi, Mark.
While it is possible to remove the Master Password from a Mac on which user's Home folders are protected with FileVault, doing so does not permit one to then change the passwords on FileVault-protected accounts. One would still need to know the password for the user account.
It is important to choose good passwords. Tiger offers a password assistant that helps you choose good passwords.
If you don't want to use FileVault, using Encrypted Disk Images is the best and easiest route to encrypting and password-protecting select data on a Mac. There are two AppleCare Knowledge Base documents you should read in relation to encrypted disk images:
    - "Mac OS X: About Encrypted Disk Images."
    - "Mac OS X: How to create a password-protected (encrypted) disk image."
    - "Disk Utility 10.5 Help: Creating a disk image."
You can even burn an encrypted disk image to CD or DVD.
The most important thing to remember about encrypted disk images is to never lose the password. If you lose it, you will never be able to open it. If you rely on the password being saved in your Keychain, and later format your drive, you lose the password saved in your keychain, so write it down and save it in a secure place, just in case. For added security, do not add the password of an encrypted disk image to your Keychain when this option is offered.
Note that some of the information above is from the "Security" chapter of my book, Troubleshooting Mac® OS X.
    Good luck!
