I lost all calendar events and contacts during iTunes backup

i lost all calendar events and contacts during iTunes backup
I think my wife had an old apple ID on the phone and never backs up her device. She lost all contacts and calendar events. any help?

It would default to whatever account you have set for default. If you were using Exchange, it would sync to that. However, the settings for syncing are set up in iTunes. You would need to check to see what settings were in iTunes for syncing the information. It could be a supported application on the computer, or a cloud service as I said earlier.
On my personal phone, it will default to my iPhone calendar which I sync with Outlook on my computer. I can select the Exchange account if I want, but my default is what I sync with Outlook.

    Hello evanfromvic
If you have a back up in iTunes, you can restore from that back up. The article below will assist with getting that backup restored.

Restore the iPhone from your backup.
    See this -> http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1766
Then make sure you sync everything to your computer so you do not lose it.

  • Lost all calendar events since 2012 and most before then!

I updated my wife's iPhone to her own iTunes/Apple ID - now any calendar events since 2012 have been deleted and even some of those left i.e. from 2012 and before have been deleted as well.
Whenever I was offered the option to delete/merge/keep items they were kept and not deleted.
I have looked everywhere I can think off, including using iPhone recovery software - and there isn't any sign of deleted calendar events!   If they had been deleted as I changed the Apple ID - I would have thought they would all have been deleted!   As you can appreciate it, I am now firmly in the dog house! - where have they gone and can I recover them?

Thanks - initially the calendar seemed to be totally empty.  I then did as you suggest and discovered the events prior to 2013.   It is almost as if there was an incomplete synch and then it synched again and took the incomplete version as the correct version - loosing all 2013 events and some of the events prior to 2013!

  • All calendar events and notes gone

All of my calendar events and notes have been erased. I don't know why. I really needed them! If anyone has any ideas about recovering them, I'd be very grateful. Thanks!

The only calendar listed is "birthdays," which appeared a while ago after I had downloaded the Facebook app and had all the birthdays of my Facebook friends. I never even wanted that calendar, so I had deselected it and had all my events on a different calendar. The other calendar is gone altogether and even the birthday one is blank. All of my notes are gone, too, and the books in my iBooks library all say cannot find the source. This is all since I installed the latest ios update. :/

  • I've lost all my events and photos in iPhoto

Recently converted to all things Mac.
I use iphoto to categorise all my photos and events and faces, basically everything. I then use Aperture to create projects and import from my iphoto library the selected photos I want to work with only.
For some reason or another, I cannot tell you how or why it happened, I cannot open aperture anymore cause it tries to open a file only desktop which i think it thinks is a backup file but says " "xxxxxxx.aplibrary" is an iPhoto library and cannot be opened in Aperture". Thing is that I cannot open it on Iphoto either and I lost all my photos in iPhoto. Where can they be stored? There is nothing in the Trash and there isn't a file where photos are kept from what I gather they are stored within the app. If the problem is the app then I need to uninstall it meaning I loose over 2000 photos!?!?!?
Serves me right not to back up on a hard drive.
Anyone understand my dilema and offer a suggestion on how to retirve my photos?

I strongly suggest that you use another application as an external editor for iPhoto. Aperture is not an edior. Like iPhoto it's a Digital Asset Manage - that is, a database. Trying to use it as an extension of iPhoto is adding complexity to your workflow.
In order of price here are some suggestions:
    Seashore (free)
    Graphic Coverter ($45 approx)
    Acorn ($50 approx)
    Photoshop Elements ($75 approx)
There are many, many other options. Search on MacUpdate.
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.

  • I recently updated my iphone and lost all my media and contacts as my computer did not save them how do i get them back

i recently updated my iphone and lost all my media as my computer did not have enough memory to restore and an error occured. How do i get them back.

Media and contacts are NOT part of the iPhone backup. Media should already be in your iTunes library and contacts should be in whatever address book or cloud service you were syncing them to. Just re-sync them to the phone.

  • Just lost all calendar events

Got out of plam Desktop 6.2.2 and then back in, all Calendar items are gone. Contacts are ok. Where is this data stored?
    Any sugestions? Thanks, Brad

You can recover the data from your user folder provided you have only sync'ed once with the PC when you discovered the data missing. When you sync to the PC there are files created for each PIM category in your user folder. For Example; datebook.dat or datebook (Depending on the version of Palm Desktop) and datebook.bak. Using 6.2 the file names are .mdb and mdb.bak. For 6.2, the files are located in the username folder in PalmOSdesktop in my documents.
The files for previous versions are named .dat and .bak. When you sync, the current data is stored in .dat. The next time you sync the data in the .dat file is copied to the .bak file. With Palm Desktop closed, you can rename the .dat to .old. then rename the .bak to .dat. If the data in the .bak file is intact, it will now be in palm desktop when you reopen Palm desktop. I have included a link to show you how to find the userfolder on the PC.

The best way to backup your data is to use the export feature in Palm Desktop. Make a new folder on the PC desktop named Palm Desktop Backup data. Next, select the category you want to export. You will get a window that asks where you want to save the file, save in the folder created on the desktop. There is a button that allows you to select currently selected record or all, select all. If you don't select all, then only the record highlighted is exported. You will then need to name the file for export, I suggest the name of the category, eg: datebook (With current date). Do this for all critical data in each category. With the data exported to the folder on the PC desktop, you can save this data to a flash drive, external hard drive or a CD-RW. With this method you will have your data in a seperate place than Palm desktop and the device. If you "Lose" data again, you can import the data back into palm desktop.
Make sure that when you make changes in palm desktop or the device to export the data to the folder created for the backup.

  • I lost all calendar events with mountain lion -- help!

I upgraded to Mountain Lion, and all looked fine until I opened Calendar -- no events!

    Jim,
I presume all of the calendars have a ✓ mark in the appropriate box?
Try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To find that Library folder, use Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart.
Then go to your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Calendars Folder and remove any files with "Cache" as a part of the file name. Use the same method as listed above to get to the correct Library Folder. Log out/in, or restart and check iCal for functionality.

  • HT201210 I accidentally restored my iPhone 5 for the first time and now I have lost all my photos and contacts. How do i get them back?

So I plugged in my iPhone 5 to my computer for the first time and I accedentally pressed restore. My wife has a iPhone 4s and has plugged in her phone to the computer many times to sync. So when i restored i got all her photos and lost mine which were very very importent. So how do I get my photos back?

Unless your photos were backed up somewhere, they're gone.  They were wiped off your phone when you restored it from your wife's data.

  • I restored my itouch and lost all my pictures and contacts. Any fix?

Earlier today I plugged my ipod into my laptop as uaual to let it syc. I later realized that there was music that I wanted to take off of it. I did that and unplugged my itouch and it said I needed to connectg to itunes and restore my itouch so i did. AFter it was done I realized that I had my apps and music through itunes but I had lost my contacts, pictures and videos. I had so many memories and wallpapers and important contacts saved! Is there any way to get them back?

If you restore from backup you should get back your contacts up to the time the backup was made.  The same for photos and video if they ere directly imported to the iPod like saved photos or videos and pictures taken with the 4G's camera. If the videos and photos were synced to the iPod they should be on you computer, they are not included in the backup.

  • Iphone: recover photos and contacts when itunes backup is corrupt/not-compatible

Thought it would be useful to share my experience with an iphone restore failure.
Scenario: my friend did an ios update (she has sworn to never do such a thing again based on this experience).  The restore failed and her iphone would not boot up. iTunes said we need to restore.  She had an iTunes backup (no iCloud backup) that had been used for a previous restore (i.e. a known good backup).  When we attempted to restore, we got this:
I googled this problem, and see that we are not the first to experience this.  I chatted with Apple Support and conclusion was "start fresh".   I found several open-source tools (iPBA2, iphone Analyzer);  but while both showed photos from the backup, neither showed contacts.
I copied the iTunes backup directory to my desktop Linux (CentOs) machine.  Browsing in the directory (use the GUI file browser, or run "file *|grep JPEG) I could see all the photos.  So I uploaded these to DropBox and gave the link to my friend.  Result: I consider this a 100% success at recovering the photos.
Using the Linux "strings" command, I found files that looked like they contained contact list.  For example, I knew that I (Tucker) was a contact in her list, so I ran something like:
    for i in $(ls)
    do
    strings $i |grep Tucker > /dev/null 2>&1
    if [ $? == 0 ]
    then
    echo found Tucker in $i
    fi
This identifed a few likely candidates.  For each of these files I then ran:
    strings <filename> |more
and simply looked at the output.  I found a file that had a bunch of names/phone-numbers.  I saved the output to a file, ran some scripts to clean it up a bit, and I had a crude recreation of contacts (at least 1 phone number for each contact).   I emailed this list of contacts to my friend, and she can now manually re-enter contacts as she sees fit.  I can see this file type is sqlite.  I tried various experiments reading this and other files with sqlite3, but did not have any success at finding actual contact info.   Result: I consider this a partial success,
There are a number of files in the Backup directory which show up as file type "Adaptive Multi-Rate Codec".  These appear to be voicemail messages pushed to the phone.  I did not care about these.  If you open them in the Linux GUI file browser, you can play them back.
Bottom line: Apple Support said "start over".  Reality is, with a little effort, you can get back photos (most important, since these cannot be re-created from scratch), and some contacts (less important, since eventually you can re-create this with a little work).  Might be other stuff (calendar, ...etc) that can be harvested if you poke around some more.
    My recommendations:
    1) Set up your phone for both iTunes and iCloud backup
    2) Now assume that both your iTunes and your iCloud backups are corrupt.  Do not trust them.  The only way (to my knowledge) to see if they are good is to restore them to an iphone.  Sort of like buying house insurance, and not knowing if it will pay for your damage until the house burns down.  If the backups are good, then fantastic.  If they are not good, you will have an alternate strategy.
    3) Get a flickr account.  Set your iphone to sync photos to flickr.  flickr offers everyone 1TB free.  I like a backup scheme where you can "see" your backup, and have confidence it is really there.
    4) Login to icloud.  Export your contacts to a file, and make a copy of file on another machine, or to the cloud (googledocs for example).  Maybe you can export other stuff.  I didn't really care about this, so no comments on that.
    5) If all else fails, dissect files on Linux as described above
    Comments/flames welcome.

Iphonebackupextractor for windows xp is a strange piece of software, which lets you extract only one file per session until you pay the registration fee. with "iphone backup extractor" from supercrazyawesome for mac you get the same functionality for free, so I could get her photos/films back. For the contacts you will need a sql-browser, which I had not try yet.
