I lost all my contacts after upgrading to version 5

I just completed the upgrade on my iphone 3GS and all my contacts disappeared. And when I try to sync, it says that the 'contacts' on my iphone are 'disabled'. How could this happen. I did not delete them, disable them, etc. What a mess. I should have left it alone.

Are you using iCloud? If so, then in settings - icloud, do you have contacts turned on?
In your contacts app, at the top left, do you see a groups button? If so, tap on it and select all contacts.
iTunes should have created a backup file before updating. Have restored your contacts using that backup file?
What settings do you have in iTunes for the syncing contacts?

Well there is a warning. However it is designed that your computer is the MAIN place for your contacts. The concept of syncing is that the phone gets "copies" of your real data (your phone is not the primary source, your computer is).
So if your computers address book you sync with has no contacts, then it will erase contacts on your phone because you have no contacts (dumb yes, but that is how it goes).
It warns when there will be major changes to your primary contacts (your address book on computer).
Now if you had at least 1 contact on your computer, it would of "merged" them (thus bringing over what is on the phone and bringing that one over to the phone).
The assumption is when you opt to sync contacts, that you have contacts on the computer you are syncing with and thus your primary place for contacts you maintain.

I have an iphone 3Gs and upgraded it to iOS 5 over the weekend. After the upgrade - everything was there apart from my contacts. I tried all the usual suggestions relating to switching icloud on and off etc but nothing worked. Finally decided to do a restore from backup, but the only backup iTunes shows is from after I did the iOS 5 upgrade. What happened to all the backups from prior to upgrade? I know it backed up before the upgrade, but now that one is missing?? Is there anyway to retrieve previous backups in iTunes?? Is devastating to lose all my contacts.... Any help would be appreciated!!

If you have your contacts in Outlook or Address Book you should be able to sync them back. If you only had them on your phone, and if you backed up your iPhone by syncing with iTunes before you went to the Apple store, you might be able to extract your contacts from this old backup using 3rd party software such as: http://www.iphonebackupextractor.com/.

If you have logged into icloud.com using a computer's browser and found all your contacts, then it should be easy to get them back. On the device, go to Settings>icloud and turn off contacts. Later turn them on again, that should download the contacts. If it doesn't work, then on the same icloud screen, scroll to the bottom and tap Delete Account. Then log in again.
If on the other hand, icloud.com is missing most of the contacts, then you'll have to rely on an icloud backup to restore from. It's a bit tricky if you have backups turned on,

Help, Lost all my contacts after not purchasing MobileMe

I tried Mobile Me but did not use it very often so I did no subscribe to it. I deleted the Mobile Me email account since it would not sync anymore. Now all my contacts and appointments are gone. I have not synced my phone with my PC since I am afraid I will loose the contacts stored on my PC. I need to restore my contacts for work purposes and I am totally lost. Help would be greatly appreciated.

If your contacts are on your computer then enable syncing of contacts and/or calendars on the info tab and sync them back to your iPhone.

Lost all my contact after OS 10.3 update

I never merged or linked my other account contact to my blackberry contact app.. because other account contact is not a phone number like twitter and facebook and bbm..
Last night I updated my device to os 10.3 from blackberry Q10 suddenly all my facebook and bbm contact all merged and linked and I have a total of 3.764 contacts..
unmerging and unlink or removing all the contact already a pain..
But you know what is more pain? All my real old phone number contact has all gone.. and I dont have a back up for my contact..
why would you merge and link all my contact without asking me first blackberry? why would you turn on everything I have turn off the first time? And why would you deleting all my contacts list?
This is a no way blackberry..

this time over 6000 messages on facebook even though they get deleted daily.

They may be in your backup. Try restoring from backup.

Lost all ical appointments after upgrade to Snow Leopard

Yes, I like Snow Leopard, but it seems to have wiped iCal clean.
Not so nice.

I just upgraded my MacBook Pro Intel laptop to Snow Leopard, and my iCal lost my "personal" and "family" calendars. There is no longer any content in those calendars in username/library/iCal - but there is in "work", "vacation", and another custom calendar. These events in these calendars have also disappeared from MobileMe, with the exception of about 4 or 5 random events over the past couple of years (out of probably thousands in those two calendars over several years, as these were loaded from an Outlook calendar in 2006). Interestingly, all my recent events in the missing calendars are still on my iPhone.
I tried the com.apple.iCal.plist on the desktop suggestion, but this did not recover any content. Any suggestions? Even some ideas about why just these two calendars (with the bulk of my content this year) have been affected, not the others? Very strange (not to mention very frustrating, as I'll have to recreate all of that content, it seems). Thanks.

I lost all my data after upgrading to iOS5.1. It did not ask me even one single question to delete or sync anything

I tried to restore it but it gave me nothing but empty iPad. I don't use any other 'i' things. I upgrade and install my new computer and update iTunes.
It did not ask me anything about my connecting and I ask for updateing old software. Everything is gone TOO smoth and yes clean iPad.
I tried to find the answer in Internet but it did not fit my case. And they are lucky to have back up or other product from Apple to resync.
I guess this will be the last one. I also have Samsung Andriod and I like it very much even it costs me very little, quick, shape, not confusing, type it easily, not gugu.
SO NEXT ONE, I WILL BUY TABLET FROM SAMSUNG.

I thought it is a intuitive idea to back up. But another problem I heard it before is someone lost the data when he synced his new iTune with the iPad with full data. And it synced iPad empty. I could happen.
True I should back up, which I did not lost my data much except my notes in iPad.
My complain is to say normal sensible OS will not do this. My Samsung did not have fansy iTune which I have to be careful too much. I just keep/remove things without warrying stupid sync.
As you all seem has experience how to use iTune, but I don't. I cannot use it simple.

All the postings related to this topic seem to indicate that there is no easy solution to this. You can restore from back-up ... but I think i've synched my iphone after my contacts disappeared - so restoring from back up will do no good! iTunes should have a clearer message in future warning users that all contacts will be deleted if you press ok in that window that appeared during the first synch!
Am very frustrated!

Lost all multipath LUNs after upgrading kernel to 3.8.13-55

I need some help please....
I have the OVM repo on both my servers, I ran a yum-check update and it showed there were xen packages to upgrade to 3.3.2 and a new kernel (3.8.13-55). After applying a yum -y update, and rebooted the server into the new kernel, none of my LUNs showed up.
I ran a multipath -ll command it was only showing the internal RAID controller. Started to troubleshoot by process of elimination.
When i boot back into the 3.8.13-26.4.2 kernel, all my LUNs come back. Multi path -ll shows all the mappings and I can start my VM's up.
Tried a second time to boot into the new kernel, same problem. We are running on HP DL360p G8 servers using HP branded 2x 8GB F/C HBA's
I ran the upgrade on the second server and the same behaviour is exhibited.
Luckily we boot off of SD cards and I made a dd backup before i did any of this. So i restored back to the 3.3.1 image and performed a yum update on all components except the kernel and the OVM console now shows 3.3.2 (the VM manager was already upgraded to 3.3.2)
We are very very concerned about this.. We are in the final stages of testing this before we roll this out to production. I'm at a loss why Oracle would show a kernel upgrade when it clearly breaks something to do with multi path.
Do you have to do anything specific in Oracle VM once a kernel is replaced? I come from a vSphere backgrounds and this is all new to me. Any suggestions?

After doing some probing, I think the issue is the fact the drivers for these HP Brocade 82B HBA's are more than 2 years old. If i look on HP's site, they have new firmware and drivers for these cards, however, Oracle won't support 3rd party drivers on Oracle VM. So we're kind of in a bind here, can anyone shed some light on this? I find this truly to be a horrible virtualization platform, the VM manager is atrocious and has 0 reporting features built in. Its a real pity you are forcing people to use this junk, when far more established solutions are in place (vSphere) that are robust and work and are very very reliable. This whole CPU pinning is only valid with Oracle VM is a load of BS if you ask me. Am i just supposed to sit and wait for Oracle to possibly upgrade the drivers ?
