I lost my Application/Utilities folder!

I was double-clicking on my utilities folder (in the Applications folder), and, all of a sudden, it was gone. Now I can't find the Utilities folder anywhere on my computer. I even used the "locate" command in the terminal and was unable to find it. That's an important folder with some important applications in it. Don't know how I'm going to get it back. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.
echo

Hi echo!
Have you tried to locate it using the Find function? Command + F keys, or select Find from the Finder File menu.
If it doesn't locate a folder named Utilities, look for an individual utility, like Disk Utility.
Maybe somehow the name of the Utilities folder was changed.

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
    According to this page
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448
messages about ACLs can usually be ignored. Besides, that message refers to the Utilities folder, not the Applications folder.

    ls -l -d -e /Applications

  • Was muss ich bei folgendem satz: Please open Terminal from your Applications - Utilities folder tun? mac osx

    Bitte auf Deutsch antworten! Danke

    hi there
many thanks again, am in a very sticky situation, as i explained is my work machine....
I read the article you sent me, i understand the archive and install, but the problem is it doesent let me reach to that point, once i select language, a pop up saying that the machine should check if install is posible,it checks and i get the cannot install this software on this machine.
I have tried installing by cliking on the install icon, not by restarting holding C
    Should i first repare permissions??
I also have done a manual back up from the library of allpreferences, all application support, audio folder, mail folder in case i have to erase and install.
Do you think that if i erase the hole hard drive from the disk utility on the install dvd, would it let me then install? then i can import manually the backed up folders?
    thanks again

  • /Applications/Utilities not supported on this architecture

Hi guys! I just got a new aluminium macbook for about less than a month, but have already encountered some problem regarding my /Applications/Utilities folder. When I try launching any of the utilities applications, I get the error message: "You can't open the application "<Name of Application>" because it is not supported on this architecture". All the the application icons also appear grayed with a crossed circle over it. This applies to all the applications in the Utilities folder, but all my other applications are fine.
Also, when I click the Apple Icon on the Finder Bar and click "About This Mac", the "More Info..." button is grayed out, I suspect because System Profiler is not working. Terminal is also disabled, which is especially odd. Applications subsequently installed worked fine, such as Microsoft Keyboard and Mouse, MacBook Firmware Updates.I tried googling for some solutions, but somehow no one seems to have encountered this problem.
I'm not sure whether it's related, but this problem happened after I recently installed Vista under Boot Camp and after installing the Optional Installs on the Mac OS X Leopard Disc that comes with my MacBook (e.g. X11).
I'm really new to the Mac, so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

That's rather odd. I don't think I've heard of that one before. If you select one of the Utilities and "Get Info" on it, what "kind" is the application. It should say "Application (Universal)" or "Application (Intel)."
Also make sure the "Open Using Rosetta" checkbox is not checked.

  • Contents of utilities folder ?

    i have a simple question:
for software update to function properly, it is important that all of Apples applications be located in their original places within the applications & utilities folder.
the problem is that a while ago i moved the contents of my utilities folder into my applications folder, and now cannot remember what goes where.
could someone please post a list of the items that are located in the utilities folder in a default installation of os 10.3.9 ?
    thank you.

  • I Lost My Application Folder and I Can't Get It Back With It's Previous Features

I lost my application folder!! I have tried dragging it from my hard drive but all I have left over is my skype. when i was trying to change the size of my screen's window i accidently picked up the applications folder and when i let go of my mouse it disappeared and now I cant get it back with everything in it. (front row, screen grab, etc)

First of all don't empty the Trash.
Second, it is unlikely the folder is gone, you just dragged it someplace else. Here is one easy way to find it:
Go to Spotlight and type in the name of one of the programs that you had in that folder. Click on the program when it finds it. When the program launches, click and hold its icon in the Dock until you get the pop up menu. Choose "options > show in Finder".
That will open the enclosing folder and select the program. While you are there drag the folder back to where you want it.

  • I've lost the application folder from Favorites. How do I get it back?

I've somehow lost the application folder which should be located in Finder - left hand side under Favorites. I can do a search and find a specific application located on the hard drive - so I haven't deleted them.  But I want the Application folder with the different applications back in Finder.  I'm kind of hesitant about starting a search in areas I know nothing about.  Can anyone help?

    Hi JanMP,
The sidebar in a Finder window can be easily modified, so it's possible that the Applications folder may have been accidentally dragged out of it. You should be able to drag it back on from its current location (Macintosh HD > Applications), as outlined in the following article:
OS X Yosemite: Customize the Finder toolbar and sidebar

  • Adobe Air Application Installer on Utilities Folder

I just got my first mac early this year so I still haven't gotten the hang of the Mac OS. Anyway, I installed Adobe Photoshop CS4 a few days back but I uninstalled it a few days after. I noticed when I opened my utilities folder I saw the following:
    Adobe Air Applications Installer
    Adobe Air Uninstaller
    Adobe Installer Folder
    Adobe Utilites Folder
I can't remember if the files were there even before I installed the Adobe Photoshop CS4 program. Is it safe for me to remove these files? If it is, how do I remove them? Thanks!

    Figures
Just move them to desktop, restart and see if you get any alerts.
Also check in System Preferences for Version Cue and if you have it, turn it off.

i can't open .pkg files.  i get an error telling me to choose an application to open them.  the Installer app is not in my Utilities folder or in System/Library/CoreServices.

Install the UnArchiver and try again.

There is no Installer.app in the Utilities or Applications folder, there is one in the System/Library/CoreServices.
If yours is not there, then you need to:
1: Backup your data off the machine to a non-TimeMachine drive and disconnect all drives.
2: If you have TM, try to restore the Installer.app from the TM drive and reboot. See if things work.
If the above doesn't work, your going to have to re-install just OS X 10.6 (and bundled programs) from the disk by holding c and booting off the 10.6 disk and simply installing OS X. Then software updating to 10.6.8.
This will replace all bundled programs and OS X, not touch your files (backup regardless) and most third party programs.
Some third party programs will have to be reinstalled form original sources because they install Kext files into OS X and thus kicked out by the 10.6 reinstall form disk.
All should go well, however if you boot to a gray screen or other freeze, reboot holding the shift key down, then update all your third party software to be current to 10.6.8.
Another method is to re-install in to CoreServices the Installer.app from the 10.6 disk using the extraction program called Pacifist from CharleSoft, then running software update to get any updates for Installer.app.

  • I've lost my applications folder from the dock

I've lost my applications folder. I think I picked it up by accident and put it in the trash. But was unable to recover it. I've tried taking the applicaions folder from finder and that works to the point that it puts a shortcut on the desktop. But I want my applications folder returned to it's former glory with the A on it and in the dock. Help

You should update your profile to indicate what version of Mac OS X you are currently running.
And this is an OS question, not an iMac question.
Have you tried dragging the Applications folder to the Dock?  It has to be dragged to the right side of the dividing line between individual applications on the left and folders/trash on the right.

  • Installing utility programs: Applications vs. Utilities folder

When installing various third party utility programs, like Cocktail, TT Pro, Safari Enhancer, MacJanitor etc., do you think it matters whether or not you install them in the main Applications folder or its Utilities sub-folder? I notice that many programs advise installing into Applications folder, presumably the Utilities folder in Apps folder would be considered the same as installing into Applications folder. I have ocassionally read that some people advise leaving the Utilities folder alone and leave it for those utilities installed only by Apple.

Most applications will not care whether they are located in Applications/Utilities or in Applications. However, it is not a good idea to move Apple's applications because the software update mechanism may not find them for updating in the future. A few commercial applications also should be left where they are installed because the updaters will only find the original if it is in Applications. I keep Cocktail in Utilities without any problems; my guess is that the others you mention would work fine from that location as well. If you run into a problem you can always just move them back.

  • Have two users one is a test one is mine all the sudden mine lost the applications folder and now when i open my user it opens but wont respond to anything and i have to power it down and restart any clues

I have two users one is mine, one is a test i set up with apple care. Everything was working fine then i lost my applications folder icon on my user. I have been using the Finder to open applications, now when i open my user the mouse travels but i'm not able to get a respond from anything ,it's almost like its frozen. I have power off and restart and use the test user. Anyone have a clue or any ideas?

You can find the serial number either in About this Mc in the Menu bar under the , or it should be on a sticker under the foot of the machine.
If you have the install discs, try booting from them, holding down the c key and then using Disk Utility to check the drive.
You can also boot into Safe mode
To start up into Safe Mode (to "Safe Boot"), do this:
       1. Be sure the computer is shut down.
       2. Press the power button.
       3. Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift key.
Tip: The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
       4. Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple and progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.2 through 10.3.9, you will see "Safe Boot" on the Mac OS X startup screen.
During the startup in Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you will see "Safe Boot" on the login window, which appears even if you normally log in automatically.
    Please post back with results,
To leave Safe Mode in any version of Mac OS X, restart the computer normally, without holding any keys during startup.

  • Applications in my Utilities folder have suddenly disappeared

I went use Disk Utility and discovered that all of the applications in my Utilities folder have disappeared. How can I fix this without creating a major problem? I make a backup clone of my master boot volume every day and unfortunately this happened without me catching it before the subsequent backup. I do have an earlier time machine backup of the clone with all of the Utilities applications in place.

Try restoring them from the Time Machine backup. Then check for updates.
