Are they still listed on your device when you go to Settings>iCloud>Storage>Numbers? If so, they should still be in iCloud but you may need to contact support to find out why the Numbers app isn't able to access them: http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/.

Are you sure you don't see them when you swipe to the left?
I actually had only one icon showing on the second page .... and then all of the rest showed up on pages 3, 4, etc.

Here is the procedure for your reference, using iTunes 10.7. The procedure and screenshots for newer versions are contained in the above link.
This assumes what you purchased is still available in the Store.
Open iTunes and click on iTunes Store on the left
On the right you will see this
Sign in with your Apple ID, then click on "Purchased" (with the orange blob)
On the summary page that appears select the tab "Not on This Computer" on the right.
On the list that appears, select what you want and then click the "Download" button.

I just encountered a similar problem, but just as frustrating.
Yesterday I updated my iPhone 4 to OS5, and as it finished restoring, there was a message prompting an 'unknown error occured'. I found that all of the original data was present though, apart from the fact that all of the apps I ever had were now on my phone, randomly arranged. I decided to deal with it later today.
Meanwhile, today I took a couple of hundred pictures. So tonight, as I wanted to sync them to iPhoto, iTunes prompted me to continue restoring first, as it found the process wasn't complete yet. Unknowingly, and given the fact that I've been through this process more than once, I opted for the restore to be completed, only to find my apps nicely arranged, and all data from the last day erased. This is highly frustrating.
For the sake of completeness: I tried resetting, never interrupted the process nor disconnected my iPhone.
If anyone knows a remedy, I'd be most thankful.

Iphoto just lost my last import of pictures, how can i get them back?

Uploaded my pictures on iphoto, when I went to add location to them, iphoto crashed, and i had deleted them fr0m my scan disk card. Help how can I get them back.

What happens now, when you open iPhoto? Are the photos not showing in the library or iPhoto still crashing?
What is your current iPhoto version?
If you imported the photos into iPhoto, but are no longer seeing them after the crash, try if rebuilding your iPhoto library will find the photos inside the library. Rebuilding might collect them in a "recovered" event.

lost 7 pages of notes while traveling for my thesys desperated:
was writing on my iphone 4s notes while did cut and paste and suddently lost the whole text (which was not selected). there is no ctrZ type function on iphone so i tried paste thinking that it copied the whole text nothing then i went to icloud on the phone and the notes function was not selected to be backed up i arrived home today and connected my phone to my computer and open my itunes and nothing.

Time machine. Went back to c=when it worked last and now I can't update old version as it has error saying I have updated version. THE UPDATED VERSION DOESN'T HAVE MY O;D STUFF. The only ways to get them back are to sync with your iCloud account, if you have one set up with your contact and messages being backed up there, or to sync with your computer that you use to backup your iPhone data and apps.

Like I said, I had well over 100 albums on my computer. These were all imports from physical albums, some of which I don't have anymore. I updated iTunes this morning and now I have 5 albums. I've tried rolling iTunes back to a saved point, but it didn't put anything back in and now that restore point is gone. I thouht I could just search for the albums on my computer and re-import them, but they seem to be wiped from the entire computer. What the heck? Is there any way to get them back?
