I lost my entire Aperture library, how can i restore it?

I wanted to import an old project from a previous Aperture but it asked me to update to  Aperture 3 when i wanted to import that project.
But i'm already running 3.3.1 never the less i did an update to 3.3.2 but it didn't solve my problem, and gave me the same message.
Eventually restarted my laptop and tried to import the project into Aperture again.
This time the screen comes up that normally shows when you hold the option+command key and asks if i want to update the library since it asked me to do that last time i accepted but now my whole library is gone and replaced with the one old project!
And i can't find my old projects anywhere and the size of my library is only 88GB now (it used to be 200GB)
Now i never deleted any pictures or removed my library so i should be able to recover it somehow right?
iv'e been browing the web but havn't found a solution to revert what iv'e done.
Also looked at recovery of deleted files with MacKeeper but there were no files in there that were previously in my library
so doesn't look like it got thrown in the trash.
If anyone has any suggestions please help me regain my old library,
i'm not importing any new photo's or changing anything right now as i'm affraid i'll never get it back.
i do have some projects backed up but not all of them.

  • When my photos were moved from iPhoto to Photos in the last system upgrade, they lost all their titles. How can I restore them?

In the latest Yosemite upgrade, my photos were migrated from iPhotos to Photos and lost all their titles. How can I restore them?

There is an Applescript, File Name to Title,  provided by user léonie that will put the file name of any selected photos into the Title field for that photo.  If there already is a title in that field under the thumbnail it will not replace it with the file name.
    tell application "Photos"
      activate
set imageSel to (get selection) -- get a list of selected images
      set counter to 1
      set currentfilename to ""
      if imageSel is {} then
      error "Please select an image."
      else
      repeat with im in imageSel
set title to the name of im
      if not (exists (title)) then
set currentfilename to the filename of im as text -- retrieve the filename of image "Im"
set newname to currentfilename & "." & counter
set counter to counter + 1 -- increment the counter
set the name of im to newname -- write the newname to the title field
      end if
      end repeat
      end if
return currentfilename -- return the filename of the last image
    end tell
Copy the script above, open Applescript Editor and past it into the open window.  Compile and save as an Applescript application.  Put the app in the Applications folder and drag into the Dock. Now you can select images in Photos and launch the app from the Dock and it will do it's thing.  It is a bit slow so can take some time for a large number of images depending on the speed of your Mac.
Just to be on the safe side create an album with a few titled and untitled photos and run it on them.

  • HT1364 after moving itunes media folder to different disk drive i think i have lost most of my library how can i get it back?

due to lack of memory space i moved my itunes media library, only now i think i have lost most of my library as the i tunes page comes up empty,no playlists,no music, no music videos,no tv shows. can anyone help?

    Hong Kong,
I don't think it is lost.  I think it is on the other hard drive where you put it.
There are better and worse ways to move a library.  If possible, put it back the way it was, and then move it by following this guide: iTunes for Windows: Moving your iTunes Media folder

  • I want to back up (NOT sync) my iphone calendar to my PC. Last time I lost my entire calendar. How can I avoid this?

I find the term 'sync' maddeningly imprecise and iTunes frustratingly counter-intuitive. So here's the situation: iPhone calendar - bulging; Outlook calendar - zilch. I want to back up FROM iPhone TO PC. Last time I tried this it seems the blank Outlook calendar over-wrote my iPhone calendar. Result - tears before bedtime.
Also I keep getting the message: 'The information on the iPhone... is synced with another user account. Do you want to sync this iPhone with the information from this user account instead?' (What is a 'user account'? How can I find out what the iPhone was previously synced with? And does it matter?).
It then asks whether I want to 'Merge Info' or 'Replace Info', with a button provided for each of these choices.
Thus there are three questions, with buttons capable of answering only the last two. How do I indicate 'no' to question number one?
I'm totally confused and scared stiff of losing everything on my iPhone calendar. At present I am accepting the possible loss of my iPhone as being a lesser risk than my failure to understand these incomprehensible instructions and make the wrong choice.
    Can anyone help, please?

  • Lost Itunes on my Macbook - How can i restore it?

I was downloading updates to Itunes on my Macbook earlier and it seemed to be taking for ever to download so I stopped it before it had ended.  Just connected my Ipod but seems I no longer have Itunes.  What is best way to restore it????

    Hello Readiemadrid,
It sounds like you do hot have an iTunes application at all after canceling an update download. You may need to download it from the iTunes Download page and install it.
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
You may also be able to restore the file if you were using Time Machine as well with this article:
Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427
    Restoring specific files or folders
Choose Enter Time Machine from the Time Machine menu. The restore interface appears. You can literally see your windows as they appeared "back in time."
You can use the timeline on the right side of the window to reach a certain point back in time. The timeline shows the times of all backups on your backup drive. If you don’t know exactly when you deleted or changed a file, you can use the back arrow to let Time Machine automatically travel through time to show you when that folder last changed.
Note: Dates in pink indicate the data resides on your Time Machine backup device. Dates in white indicate the data resides on your Mac. In OS X Lion v10.7 and later, portable Macs include local snapshots.
You can also perform a Spotlight search from the Finder. Simply enter a search term in the Spotlight search field, and use the back arrow to have Time Machine search through your backups to find what you are looking for.
Before you restore a file, you can also use Quick Look to preview a file to make sure its the one you want. Highlight the file and press the Space Bar to bring up a quick look.
To restore, select the file/folder and click the "Restore" button. The file will automatically be copied to the desktop or appropriate folder.  If the file you are restoring has another file in the same location with the same name, you will be prompted to choose which file to keep or keep both.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • How can I restore a single image from an aperture time machine backup, do I have to restore the entire library? that does not make sense

I hope there has been found a more efficiant solution for this,  how can I restore a single image from an aperture time machine backup, I really hope I don't have to restore the entire library? that does not make sense
    any suggestions?

Did you try browsing your backups in the Finder ?  That is, do not go and "Enter Time Machine".  Instead, navigate to your Time Machine backup via Finder and then manually go to the time period (by folder name) you are looking for ... when you find your Aperture library you can then "Show Package Contents" and find the Master you are looking for.

  • In Aperture 3, how can I easily move entire projects out of my main Ap Library into other libraries?  My Ap library is running super slow because it's overloaded l so I have created two new libraries, but can't seem to move the projects into them

In Aperture 3, how can I easily move entire projects out of my main Ap Library into other libraries?  My Ap library is running super slow because it's overloaded, so I have created two new libraries, but can't seem to move the projects into them?

    Hello Annabel,
To move entire projects export them as Aperture Libraries, and then import those Libraries into the other Aperture Library:
Select the Project in the Inspector, then
File -> Export -> Project as Library
    In the other Library do:
    File -> Import  -> Library/ Project
But I am not quite convinced, that the size of your current Aperture Library is responsible for the slowness of Aperture - Aperture is designed to cope with huge libraries.
You may want to post your hardware setup and details of your library, and some of the hardware experts here may help you to find the reason for the slowness.
A huge library should only be a problem, if the projects are too big, and if you have many, many smart albums at the root level of your library.
So keep the projects small, and try to move some of your smart albums to lower levels in your folder structure (then Aperture does not need to scan all of your images to build the smart album).
Other reasons for Aperture's slowness may be, e.g.
An overfull system drive and/or external drive (keep at least 20% of your drives empty)
    lack of RAM
a corrupted Aperture Library, that needs repairing
Have you checked those options, before you split your library? It would be a pity to split it, for you would loose the ability to browse all parts at the same time, to use all your images in the Media Browser, etc.
    Regards
    Léonie

  • Please help!! Ive suddenly lost my entire iPhoto library..says it doesn't exist although I can see the photos all in grey-but also the menu is in grey, can't do anything

Please can anyone help! Ive suddenly lost my entire iPhoto library while I wss cleaning up…sometimes I can find them, they're there but all in grey and so is the menu for iPhoto…so I can't open or do anything…

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 9 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Aperture: Can I backup my entire Aperture library at once?

Soon I will be backing up my my entire notebook to a portable external hard drive to be placed in a safety deposit box as an off site backup. For a general day to day back up I use Aperture's Vault system. But I am very hesitant to do so for a MASTER backup because I don't like the idea of being tied to Aperture if I ever needed to retrieve my data. So is there a way to just have aperture export my entire collection to the hard drive at once instead of going to each project and exporting project by project? Thanks!!

    Well...
Note there is no way to export the adjustments you make (levels, retouching, definition, saturation adjustments, etc.) out of Aperture.
As far as your master backup, note you really aren't tied to Aperture if you need to retrieve your data. The masters are always accessible, even when they are inside the Aperture library. That's because the Aperture library is just a set of folders. They are what is called a "package," but if you want to check out what's in the Aperture library you can just right click the library and select "Show package contents..." All your masters are in there.
So as for exporting all your masters in one fell swoop, I don't know of a way to do it. You have to do it a project at a time (and you can elect to export XMP sidecars containing all your keywords, if you wish to read them from some other app that can read XMP files). But that's not how I'd do it if I wanted to access all my masters... here's what I'd do:
Right click my Aperture library and select "Show package contents..."
Once I was in there, I'd type a period in the Finder search box (all file names have a dot in them...)
I'd change the search scope to Aperture library
I'd click the plus below and select "Kind... images"
Voila... every image in your Aperture library will show up in the smart search... your master files, as well as any JPEG previews that Aperture has generated.
You can easily copy these wherever you want, at any time, without needing Aperture installed, so no reason to do the export IMO.

  • On imac 10.6.8 using current version of Aperture.  How can I access the Aperture Library  on my external hard drive that I use with time machine for backup?  I can only access the application but not the library..

On imac 10.6.8 using current version of Aperture.  How can I access the Aperture Library  on my external hard drive that I use with time machine for backup?  I can only access the application but not the library..

Go into Time Machine (the program not the bundle on the extrnal disk) and using Time Machine's browser go to the Folder where the library lives. You could look in the library bundle in Time Machine but that won't really tell you much,
If you want to make sure it truely has backed up your library you will need to restore it and open the restored library with Aperture.
If all this still has you confused you need to read up on Time Machine in order to get a feel for how it works, for what it is doing and for how to restore files from it.
