I lost my files

I have update my OS to 10.7.3 last Wed. and on Thurs I wake my computer from sleep.
It have VMWare running.
Suddenly VMWare report not enough space and ask me to clear more space. (I am on Macbook Air 13" w 128GB SSD)
I choose continue instead but it appear again.
I decided to shutdown VM but I can't save file. I decide not to save my docs in VM and shut it down.
I found right after that my Documents, Downloads and Desktop Folder was wiped out entirely. (My VM HDD is in Documents Folder)
Musics and Pictures still there. Chrome and Firefox App were reset too.
Luckily but not enough I got Time Machine 5 days before the bad time.
I can't even notice what would be exactly the cause...
My guest.
1. My HDD is really full and VMWare wipe my Folders?
2. OS X wipe my Folders to free up space?
3. I accidentally wipe it myself!!!! (I don't think its really this answer)
Anyone have experienced this kind of problem?
Thank you so much.

Mac OS X will never intentionally delete your personal data files.  However, you MUST keep a certain amount of space free on the hard drive - about 10% is the general rule of thumb, but on a 128 GB drive that's bare minimum.  If you fall below that minimum, performance will start to suffer, and if you squeeze it really tight, crashes and data loss can occur.  Whether that is what happened to you, or whether you did something accidentally that deleted those files, I can't say.
In any case, you need to delete enough stuff to clear about 15 GB of drive space, and keep it clear.  A MacBook Air with 128 GB SSD is not an ideal machine for running something like VMWare, which will take up a lot of hard drive space.

  • Please help me recover a lost PDF file from Adobe Reader XI

    Hi,
I was filling out a VA form 5655 in Adobe, and twice today, I lost my file and I just cannot type all of this stuff again, because I had to do so much math and typing and more math.  All of a sudden "bloop", it was gone.  When I try to go into file, then revert, revert is not highlighted.  I tried pulling up history and it said there was no history.  I just don't know what else to do, and I need this for the morning.  Please help?  Thanks

    Hi Pat,
I filled it out directly from the blank PDF online, and never got a chance
to save the whole document.  I did however save it about 1/2 way through,
but yet cannot find that 1/2 of the document either.  Thanks.

Well, iCloud has nothing to do with this.
Do you have the built-in backup function Time Machine running on your Mac?

  • I replaced my hard drive and I backed up my files on an external hard drive but when I reloaded my iweb to my imac none of my files were on it so I can't make changes to my Published web site have I lost my files what can I do

I replaced my hard drive and I backed up my files on an external hard drive but when I reloaded my iweb to my imac none of my files were on it so I can't make changes to my Published web site have I lost my files what can I do

By default iWeb keeps its data in (user)/Library/Application Support/iWeb in a file named Domain. Without this file you cannot proceed (other than by recreating the site from scratch using the published version as a reference) so you need to locate it on the original disk.
To confuse matters, Apple have hidden the user’s Library folder in Lion and Mountain Lion to casual viewers, in an attempt to stop new Mac users messing their machines up. To access it, in the Finder go to the ‘Go’ menu and hold down the Option (Alt) key; the Library folder will appear as a choice.

  • Lost the 'file, edit' etc'task bar on the left side of my mail menu.  my upper left screen reads 'welcome to lightroom moblie.  I never had nor can use these.  how do i back to basic LR and upper left task bar?

I have lost my 'file, edit, ...' task bar from the upper left side of my LR screen.  My upper left corner now reads something about welcome to Lightroom mobile. ( I have never had or used the mobile version and I can't use it anyway. )  When I push my mouse pointer up again the top of the screen the 'file, edit,...' does not reappear and stay as it has been doing for the last 3 years.  How can I get it back?  And, maybe what did I do so I can avoid this from happening again?  Thank you.  (I am not PC knowledgeable, please bear with me.)

Does the menu bar appear when you move your mouse pointer to the top of your display. If so then you could change the behavior of Lightroom via the menu Window->Screen Mode
    Hope that helps

Unfortunely, all movies and songs purchased in iTunes will be lost...you'll have to purchase them again! Any applications you've purchased, you can download again for free.
Music Rescue is a program you can use to transfer any and all data (music, movies, pictures..) from your iPod to your computer, and iTunes.

On your iMac launch iTunes and at the top next to the Apple symbol click iTunes > Preferences > Devices and tell me what you see. You last sync should be there showing only a device name. If you have an older backup it will be there as well the difference is it will be the device name with a date and time stamp. Sync and backups are two different things and there is a chance iTunes made a backup the first time you hooked up your iPhone 5.

  • Lost iWeb file, how can I get it from web?

I have a iWeb webiste published, but I lost the file in iWeb. Is there a way to download the page from the internet and continue to edit it with iWeb?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
As you are learning somewhat painfully, iWeb stores all data created in the application in a single file, Domain. This file, by default, is placed on your hard drive in this location.
iWeb generates html as it publishes your site; it is not possible to import published pages back into the application. You will have to copy and paste as much as possible from your pages as viewed from a browser.
Make sure to back up this file from now on. Varkgirl has given us a great little automator app which can be downloaded free here. Use this app for duplicating your Domain file for backup purposes.

  • I lost my files trying to up date my iPod touch can recover them?

I don't want to restore my ipod if I lost my files help me!

If they are an iPod backup than restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
To see what is in the iPod backup see:
    iTunes: About iOS backups
If you restore from iTunes (vice iCloud) you have to have the apps in your iTunes library since they are not included in the backup.
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • Locating lost original files, I lost purchased songs

Locating lost original files. I can no longer listen to several songs I purchased. I get a message that the "original file cannot be located." What to do?
    Thank you,
    Hunter

If the upgrade to Vista somehow erased the files, you'll need to restore them from your backup or, if a feature of the country you're in, download the content again from the iTunes Store. See:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2519
Note that movies can be re-downloaded only in the US as of right now, and then not all movie studios have granted that license.
    Regards.

  • Lost all files in crash while install of at                                                7

lost all files in crash while install of at&t internet gateway

Thanks. I will try this. My previous machine was running Vista and I
rarely compacted folders. NEVER had a problem. Apparently
Win 8.1 is more sensitive to this.

  • How do I recover a Muse site back to my computer after it has crashed and I've lost the files?

How do I recover a Muse site that was uploaded to Business Catalyst back to my computer after my system crashed and I've lost the files?

Regardless of being in development or not, "Captain Obvious" is is correct and the working .muse file is lost, meaning that you will have to start again from scratch.
All the BC will contain is the published HTML and support files, not the .muse file which you would require to recover the site design.
Might want to look into Time Machine or another automatic, timed backup source while you work.

    Hi CcjNZek,
In case we have misunderstanding, please explain a bit about the following questions:
    1. Do you mean that we lost some files when we failed in the process of transferring files by Bluetooth?
    2. What do you mean about the sentence ‘usb'd to a pc’?
    3. Do you use the phone to connect the Bluetooth? If so, please check if you have backed up those files.
We could check the default folder of the file transfer.
As we use the Windows 8.1, we could use the File History to restore your file in the Documents, Music, Pictures, Videos, and Desktop folders and the OneDrive files available offline on your PC.

    1. Probably not. Back up anyway; any random event, whether related to the installation or not, may cause data loss.
    2. See above.
