I lost my firewire cord!

Can I connect my brand new macbook pro to my old ibook using anything other than firewire?

If you are trying to network the two computers, you can use an Ethernet cable.
If you want to use the Migration Assistant to copy your data/apps/settings from the iBook to the MacBook, you have to use Firewire. You can get a Firewire cable at any computer store.

  • Can I use the Firewire cord?

I'm considering buying a new iPod, and I was just wondering if I can connect it to my computer using the firewire cord that came with my old iPod. More importantly, though, am I going to be able to use the firewire power adapter, or am I going to have to buy a new one of those too (because from what I understand they don't come with the new ipods!)??
    Thanks.
    ~Mary

You can use the Firewire cord and AC adapter only for charging purposes. All syncing must be done through USB connections.
If your computer does not provide Firewire power (via a 6-pin connection, rather than a 4-pin connection), then you cannot power the iPod from the computer.
The new iPods come with a USB connector that you need to use for Syncing (and can also provide power).

  • Lost the power cord for time capsule!

So I've lost the power cord for my time capsule. I went to an Apple store and they don't sell them but the employee said that it is a standard cord and I should be able to pick one up at a Radio Shack or the like? Has anybody else had to do this? I can't find the specs on the time capsule either of exactly what type of cord is needed.

who ever told you that has Model: 61-2876 | Catalog #: 61-2876 cord in mind. I'm not sure if it will work...it looks close....are you saying you were told you can't order a replacement cord from Apple?

  • When I borrow a firewire cord, my iPod doesn't work

I was wondering if anyone else had to borrow a firewire cord and it won't work. I am not sure if it is a PC/Mac thing but I was wondering if anyone else had this issue?

You can look at the new pre-release version of Avast for Firefox 5.

  • I have an old iMac and am thinking about getting an iMac intel do I need a different kind of usb and firewire cord?

I have an old iMac and am thinking of getting an iMac intel. Do I need a different type of usb and firewire cords to work with the new one?

What type of Firewire cable do you have?
If our not sure then first look up your computer with the serial number here,
    http://support.apple.com/specs/
Then take a look at the specs for the new iMac here and see if you have compatible cable,

  • I LOST MY USB CORD!!!!!

i lost my usb cord...will apple replace it?... because i know that they replace headphones!

Apple doesn't replace lost items, only items that are defective under warranty. As other posters have mentioned, you can buy the cables from many vendors. Personally, I'd order one from Apple even though it would be a bit pricier.

  • What do I do if I lost my power cord to my iPhone 5 and there are no lightning cords or adapters available in my city or on-line at the apple store for 2-3 weeks?? My phone is going to die - I have no way to get the new power cord.

I got the new iPhone 5 last week and have been happy with it. I went to the apple store on-line a few days later to order some adapters for the power cord, so that I could use it with my alarm clock and dock at work - although they are back ordered until nov.  yesterday I lost my lightning power cord and there are NONE available in my city and the apple store is till out of stock for at least a couple of weeks.  My phone now has 10% battery and losing last - what can I do to power my phone???? I use it for work, I need to have it working and available butndont seem to have any options.  Please let me know if there is another device I can use to power my phone!!

Sorry to tell you but unless you have a Retail Apple Store close by, they are the only ones I have found with all the adapters and accessories. I bought an extra lightning to usb adapter the other day to use in my truck. Good luck....

  • Lost my Firewire External HD

I have an Firewire External HD attached to my Pismo G3 Powerbook, running on OS 10.4.5. I have lost the Exernal HD off the desktop when it is connected and powered up. The System Profiler knows it is there, but the desktop doesn't. Any suggestions about how to get it back without reformating the External HD?

Thought you could use this info about getting FireWire to work!
First, you should always Repair Permissions in Disk Utility before and after any update; I would do that now. If you installed your update with FireWire plugged in, your Mac may not recognize it anymore.
Try resetting your FireWire ports by disconnecting all FW devices, shut down your Mac and unplug it from AC power (wall socket) for 30 minutes. plug it back in and try FW.
If that did'nt work, download the combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try. Yours is the 10.4.4 Combo update. Others reading, download the Combo that applies to your system.
If that still did'nt get it Zap the PRAM. While restarting Mac hold down the following key combo Command-Option-P-R. Keep holding those keys down till you hear the second start-up chime, then release.
For those of you with Macs that are not PowerBooks or iBooks, a bad internal battery can cause FireWire to not be recognized, so make sure it's good!
    Good Luck!
    Cheers!

  • Maacbook crashes when firewire cord plugged it?

So recently i plugged in my firewire cable to my mac to upload a new video, and my mac completly shuts off!!! then i tried again and it kept doing the same thing? any suggestions?

    HI,
Try to reset the SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1411
And reset the PRAM and NVRAM. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
And run Disk Utility and repair disk permissions. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select FirstAid, then click: Repair Disk Permissions. Quit DU when it's finished and reboot.

  • What type of firewire cord do I need to keep older camcorder to imovie?

I have a new (2010) mac, but use imovie HD (circa 2005) and have an older Sony TRV camcorder that attached to my old imac (2005) with one firewire cable, but that same cable doesn't fit on the new mac.  i have found online that the new macs have an 800 port, but honestly i don't know what these means.
I have gone to a handful of electronic stores and most don't even carry firewire cables and those that do, don't carry the right one.  i think my only option is buying on ebay, but when i search firewire cables there is nothing that specifies 800-port.  any help would be much appreciated.
    thanks,
    J.

    Firewire800 uses a 9-pin connector whereas Firewire400 uses a 6-pin connector.
Camcorder sometimes use a Firewire400 with a 4-pin connector, which is the same as the 6-pin but without the power-supplied.

Best is to get a Firewire800-to-Firewire400 cable of appropriate length.
    Bought mine at Amazon.

  • Audio lost through firewire

If we send video out through firewire then we get the video signal but no audio, then when we change video output to none, audio returns via built-in audio. How do we get the audio to stay on when outputting video to Firewire (audio goes off when output to Desktop Video as well). This is with projects sent from FCP to STP. FCP audio plays fine through Firewire.

I have the same problem here, having spent much time getting a workflow sorted in order to use Soundtrack Pro 2.02 via exported markers from Final Cut for a dubbing project it seems that when video is output onto a second screen the audio disappears (desktop preview).
Also get a message after about 5 seconds saying that ST Pro can't play the audio due to hard disk not fast enough (I can run a 36 track mix in Logic..) and to remove 'Long files' or quit apps, but am not running anything else and I only have one audio track!
Another thread with a similar issue suggested rebuilding permissions, this I have done and verified drive, plus tried using an external drive for files too. No difference. Seems interesting that the possible link is due to FCP export? I noticed at one point that ST was still referencing the original clips in FCP even after making them independent and exporting as separate files.
Also can't see the Timecode hud when it is on the second monitor when video is playing there (shows fine on desktop on second screen). It's vital to be able to see the timecode over the presented video as this is being fed to a dubbing cabin.
Come on Apple give us some support here as it seems rare that such problems get any direct answers from you! I've just paid a packet for the Final Cut Studio and Logic Studio suites and our whole production is being delayed by these issues (and many others!)

  • 5th Generation iPod with Old Firewire Cord

So I got a new 5th Gen iPod for Christmas(YA!), and I was wondering if it would be OK to connect my iPod to my old Firewire wall charger? Well it break my wonderful new 5th Gen iPod?

  • I lost my GigaWorks S750 power cord

I recently moved and apparently lost the power cord for the subwoofer in the process. I have looked and looked and can't find where to purchase a replacement. Sorry if I'm uneducated, but where can I find a replacement power cord specifically for this speaker system?

Yea actually I did that and also found a thread on another forum that talked about fixing the subs on this system (which apparently seem to be made of cheap parts, how pleasing to know...) because they stop powering up alot. Spoke to a few individuals and they say the cords im using should work just fine (in much greater knowledged detail why). I put a non-contact power tester all over the unit while connecting a power cable and it goes off but it wont power up.
Sooooooooo what im left with is that somehow during transport to and from it decided to stop working... Going to try the open it up and use a blow dryer trick to get it to power up soon. Still bummed I cant find the original power cable so that all conditions can be as they were and I can be sure thats not why it wont work...

  • Zenstone 1GB---Lost USB Cord. WHERE DO I BUY IT??

I lost the usb cord to my Zenstone. I can't charge it and havent' found a usb cord that fits it. Does anyone know where I can buy one to fit my zen stone? Most of the ones I saw have a two big ends (you know the ones that fit into the usb slot on a computer. I need one with the usb end (for the computer) and the other for my Mp3 player (small end). Can someone please help

These are actually really easy to find. Many cellphones and cameras use that kind of cable, along with a number of Sony products (PSP, PS3 controllers). The hard part would be finding one as short as the ones that Creative supplies.
Radioshack is a good place to find a wide variety of cables. You should be able to find one at such an establishment

  • Firewire HD External very strange

I have been using an 80gig Firewire external HD I purchased from Other World Computing for about 7 years. It's been a great piece of hardware. Lately, however, the HD icon doesn't want to show up on my desktop #1. I've changed firewire cords, and I've plugged the firewire cord into different female plug-ins, but sometimes the icon shows up and sometimes it does not, and sometimes it just disappears.
The really odd thing is, if I connect two DDR G4 computers together via a firewire cord, and the HD is plugged into #2, the HD icon will show up on #1, but not on #2. How can this happen??
That being said, when do I know an external HD is on it's way out? All the files have been transfered just in case. Is it possible to replace a HD reusing the outer case?
Both computers are using Panther, BTW.
Thanks for reading, seems I never run out of questions.

    Basics of File Recovery
    Files in Trash
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. If a program does an immediate delete rather than moving files to the Trash, then the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When files are deleted only the directory entries, not the files themselves, is modified. The space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage, but the files are still on the drive. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
    General File Recovery
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten by using recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.
