Hi Pogstr.. Right you are.. so I am wondering what is the purpose of Find Iphone then? I know It is just a key that allow you to set icloud account which makes your iphone safer .. threatens thieve and they cannot reuse it without correct icloud password that you entered. moreover your stolen iphone cannot be jailbreaking.. I m right.. ???? actually I mean Iphone security features are still not strong ..as of jailbreaking utilities such as icoughtu, igetu etc .. these apps are really deadly weapon of any users ... I wish apple would have installed such powerful mobile tracking apps in its inbuilt functionality. .. these are not like Find my iphone...

Once it's in recovery mode, everything on the phone is already gone. If you've been backing it up and syncing on a regular basis, it should restore just fine.

The only way to locate/disable/erase any lost/stolen iPhone is through Find My Phone or a similar app. However, this requires that Find My Phone be setup/activated, on your phone, before it was lost/stolen. You would then login at iCloud.com & try to locate it. This requires the phone be turned on & have an Internet connection. There is no other way to locate a lost/stolen iPhone. Apple can't/won't help you, nor will your carrier. Report the loss to the Police, your carrier & Insurance company. Change all of your passwords.

I'm sorry but "you should have written it down" simply isn't a good solution. Having the keys at all is a bad idea in my opinion. The keys should be stored in your account and if you authenticate with a password, it should use that key. If you can't keep your password private or secure, that's your problem. The problem with the keys is, you can't delete your account and "start over" if you so wish. What happens if your machine locks up after you sign up and you have no time to write down your key?
You can request a new password, but can't be reminded of your key? This is nonsense. I have had no such headaches with XMarks and I'm trying to find a reason to keep using firefox sync with such an obviously user-unfriendly approach. We're humans, not machines.
