    No app is required.
    - If you previously turned on FIndMyiPod on the iPod in Settings>iCloud and wifi is on and connected go to iCloud: Find My iPhone, sign in and go to FIndMyiPhone. If the iPod has been restored it will never show up.
    iCloud: Find My iPhone
    - You can also wipe/erase the iPod and have the iPod play a sound via iCloud.
    - If not shown, then you will have to use the old fashioned way, like if you lost a wallet or purse.
    - Change the passwords for all accounts used on the iPod and report to police
    - There is no way to prevent someone from restoring the iPod (it erases it) using it unless you had iOS 7 on the device. With iOS 7, one has to enter the Apple ID and password to restore the device.

    Sorry.

My phone got stolen and I don't have "find my iphone" app, I need a way to track it down

What To Do If Your iDevice Is Lost Or Stolen
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • Ipod lost/stolen and I dont have "find my iphone app"

I lost my ipod touch or it got stolen. However i do not have "find my iphone app" installed. Can i still find and locate it?

Only if you had the FindMyiPod service configured before you lost the device, and it's connected to a working Wi-Fi network, and has not been restored to factory defaults by whoever stole it.  If you didn't do that, I'm afraid you are out of luck.
You should report the theft to your local authorities and change any and all passwords to accounts you may have set up or accessed with the device immediately.  Apple will not do anything to help.

i recently lost my 3rd Gen iPod and ive been using find my iPhone to send messages to it, my email then instantly tells me that it had been displayed or it suonded off however it doesn't find the iPod's current location. you guys think this app actually works? i feel like my alerts are just bouncing back at me. please help. ... AFAIC Location Services is a joke.
With both devices sitting side by side on my kitchen table, Location Services has NEVER shown the devices to be any where close to each other, and at times Location Services has been as much as a 1/4 of a mile off between the two devices.
Your iPod Touch has no GPS receiver so determining its location relies upon wireless routers whose location is known. Its "location" is actually that of a wireless router. Your iPhone 4 can use GPS, cellular triangulation, and Wi-Fi. One would think GPS would be most accurate but urban areas have a greater density of cells and GPS signals are easily obstructed so cellular triangulation is often more accurate.
Therefore the two devices' locations can be expected to be different. Differences of a quarter mile are easily explained if you understand how location services works: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1975
Skyhook Wireless (I think Apple uses its own database now): http://www.skyhookwireless.com/howitworks/
Location Services is not a "joke"; its intended use is for basic navigation and for such applications as determining where the nearest restaurant is. It cannot tell you that your iPod is under the couch cushions and that your iPhone is in the car.

  • I've lost my phone. It's switched off. I don't have find my iPhone app or anything. What can I do?

I have an iPhone 4s and was at my friends house last night. Some people were over. I don't know if it's been stolen or misplaced. It's now turned off but I'm sure it wasn't dead. I've looked all night and morning for it but it hasn't turned up anywhere. Unfortunately I do not have find my iPhone app so I don't know what to do.

not much you can do, change your passwords etc. report it to the police.

  • Forgot passcode, have never synced and don't have Find my iPhone set up...

So my daughter has only had her phone for about 2.5 weeks now.  Due to her brother pestering her to want to know her passcode, she's changed it multiple times and now cannot recall what she entered.  It's completely locked now.  It has never been synched yet because our computers are caput and don't really work (in process of getting a new one soon) and we did not set up Find my iPhone.  One of our ancient Mac desktops (and I do mean ancient - like about 12-13 years old) does have iTunes set up and I tried to do a restore such as it's suggested on one of the help pages for solving this problem.  It allows me to select the Reset option, but once it appears to be done (about 30 minutes), it then says it can't perform this due to the fact that the phone has a passcode. Various people on various threads have said that this should work, but in our case it just doesn't.  Everything looks exactly as it should when I follow the steps and it all appears to go smoothly, but then just doesn't work in the end.  Are there any other options?  I thought about calling the company providing us with service to see if they could just cancel our service and then reset things on their end, but I wasn't sure if that would work either.

Thanks...I've seen this very response from you to other people on various threads and despite repeated attempts at following the instructions exactly as provided, this does not in fact work in my case.  I have followed the instructions to a T.  Read and re-read and re-read to make sure.
    Thanks anyway.

  • My iPod Touch 32 GB 4th Genereation is stolen. I didnt not remember to turn on the Find My IPhone App in my Settings. Is there anyway that I can track down my Ipod Touch by using the serial number on the casing or anyother solutions?

My IPod Touch 32 GB 4th generation was stolen. I didnt put the Find My IPhone to enabled. Is there an solutions of how i can track my IPod down? Please help?

i can probably answer this part for you. in our bills and laws the privacy act was added. this made it so information among other things cannot be attained without a warrent or permission of the person being "searched or in this case located". if apple were to merely locate the ipod without the proper paperwork and authorities involved they could face serious fines aswell as jail time. so even though your ipod was stolen by someone else it is now in their possesion and therefor you cannot turn a feature on to locate it without that persons permission. however the way the "find my ipod app" works is it is designed to locate the ipod alone. this is why it can be activated by the owner with their permission. you can get the police involved however without knowing who stole it the warrent cannot be obtained. im sorry but i hope this helped you understand this isnt apples fault but laws are laws.
