I lost my iPod library
So my grandpa cleaned out my old computer since I have a new one now but he did it before I had a chance to move my iTunes library. I just got an iTouch but I cant load any of my music onto it since I don't have my library anymore. My old iPod still has all my music, but I want to get it onto my iTouch. How do I do that when I've lost my library?
There's a few step process.
1. Plug you're iPod with music into the computer.
2. Open My Computer.
3. Make sure hidden files are not hidden.
3.5 If they are or you're not sure, go to "Tools", then "Folder Options". Click the "View" tab and check "View hidden files and folders"
4. In My Computer, open the iPod icon [E: Drive]
5. Open the semi transparent folder "iPod_Control".
6. Open the semi transparent folder "Music".
7. Open the folders [Ie: F00, F01] and select all the files [Ie: WLYN]* [shortcut to select all: ctrl + a]
8. Drag and drop the files into iTunes.
*The files with look like WLYN, but when they're in iTunes, they should go back to normal.

For some reason my computer asked me to identify my itunes library. I picked one, but it turned out to be a previous library. Now I can't access the podcasts and music that I have previously downloaded. Does my most recent library still exist and if so, how can I access it?
Yes, there is a good chance it's still there somewhere. Try the instructions in this Apple support document to help you open an alternate iTunes library. Choose the *.itl file with the most recent (or 2nd most recent) modication date in your Music -> iTunes folder inside of My Documents.

My old Computer crashed and I lost my old library of recorded CD's and tunes. iTunes says I must delete everything off my iPod in order to add a new CD. It also said I already have an account which I was able to locate. I don't know how to get into my old account. I think that would solve everything. I have Windows XP. I'd appreciate any input.
No.
All iTunes content on your iPod Touch should be in your iTunes library on your computer, and your iTunes library on your computer should be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data - stored on an external drive or some other external media used for backup purposes only.
When music was purchased on a CD, if the CD was lost and you returned to the store where the CD was purchased with your receipt, were you given a replacement CD?
The same applies here. -
Somehow my Itunes started a new music library and I lost the old library. Itunes will not allow me to sync new music from my computer to my Ipod because it is now in a different library. Itunes wants to delete all my Ipod music before sync any new music. How do I work around this. I think this happened during Itunes Upates.
Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!
Should you be in the unfortunate position where you are no longer able to access your original library, or a backup of it, then see Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device.

I lost my iTunes library on my pc when the hard drive crashed. None of the data on the drive was recoverable and I did not have a backup either locally or on the cloud. Much of the music is from old vinyl and podcasts which are no longer available.
How can I get the music that resides on my ipod nano (4th generation) back onto the new hard drive on my pc.
I have been reluctant to install iTunes on the new hard drive out of fear that I will lose all the contents on the ipod if I try to synch to the new hard drive.
Help!No backup is a huge mistake.
You can redownload some itunes purchases in some countries:

Thanks in advanceNot directly but you can sync to an iTunes equipped computer and then sync to the iPad...unless you have single-use tunes which cannot be shared.

when my hard drive died I lost my itunes library and now I'm being told that I can't synch my ipod with new songs unless I delete all existing because I can only have one library at a time
Copy all the content on your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes. Then go ahead and sync the iPod with your new library.

I recently had to replace my hard drive and lost my iTunes library. When I try to transfer the content from my iPod to iTunes on the new hard drive (same computer), it would only let me transfer iTunes store purchases. How can I complete the transfer of all the content on the iPod back onto the computer?

Ipod Classic Lost will my library fit on a Nano?
Having lost my iPod Classic I need to buy a new one and am considering getting a 16gb Nano. When I had my classic I could when synching it see how much of it's capacity was used. Now I don't have it is there a way that I can see how much space it would take on the Nano? I don't want to get a Nano and run out of capacity soon after. Bill.
iTunes has a new (in 9.1) feature by which it can compress songs to 128 kb/s "on the fly" as it syncs the iPod, without changing the library copy. So even if your library exceeds 16GB, you might still fit it all on a Nano.
Very roughly figure about 4000 songs in 16 GB, but the actual number will vary, so don't cut it close. -
My 1st ipod was lost. My library is on a Dell with Windows. I registered my new ipod to a Mac. How can I get my library from Windows onto my new Ipod?
Thank you for your help. I am still having trouble. As you can tell, I am not technologically advanced AT ALL. My music is all showing up in the library but when I go to file in the top left corner, Sync is greyed out and I cannot select it. I'm gonna continue to try this. It's been a long time since I had my 1st ipod and things have changed so much I will probably need to research this stuff. Thanks again for your help.

I lost my iPod touch 32 GB a month ago, and today I got a new iPod touch 64 GB. While syncing it with itunes, I got my music library, books and purchased items back, but I didn't get my photos and videos. How can I get my old photos back in my new iPod?
Correct. When you update via iTunes all synced media that is not in your iTunes library will be lost.
As IO said before:
You can redownload most iTunes pruchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
I do not think it included audio books. -
My computer crashed and I lost my itunes library. How can I restore it from my iPod?
My computer crashed and I lost my itunes library. How can I transfer my music from my ipod back to my computer? (I did not back up my entire itunes library.)
Ipod syncing is not one way. You just have to know what to do...
I can see you use windows. Connect ipod to pc, but don't install or dont open itunes - dont alow itunes to sync automaticly). Then open explorer, enable hidden files, open your ipod (as you would any disc) open hidden file with strange names and copy all of them on your new hard drive. Then drag all this strange-named files in your itunes...woooo...now those strange names become your songs...it is magick
I you won't i can send you step by step guide...
Take care. -
I have just uploaded a new operating system (windows 8.1) on to my computer but seem to have lost my itunes library. Can this be restored? Can I plug in my ipod and syncronise so that my ipod library transfers to my computer Itunes account?
Have you failed to maintain a backup copy?
You should never update without making sure your backup copy of your computer is up to date.

I did this with my ipod nano and it worked just fine. But with my wife's ipod nano, I can't find the music folder in her ipod when I open it up by double-clicking on "My computer". I can see a contacts folder and a couple of others ("calendar" as I recall" and something else), but no music folder that I can copy.
Any suggestions, anyone???
