I lost my printer set up. Can I restore it from Time Machine?
I accidentally lost my printer set ups and need to restore them. Can it be done from Time Machine?
If you don't know what they are, you'll need to go the printer manufacturer's website and check the drivers for your printer. It will then be far the easiest thing just to download them from there.

Apparently I allowed iCloud to delete all of my calendar and reminder information from my Mac.
Can I restore it from iCloud, if not can I restore it from Time Machine? It sounds as though it's not in iCloud anymore.
You may find that restoring from Time Machine results in the information simply disappearing again. You might try this: disable iCloud syncing, restore from Time Machine, re-enable syncing and choose the merge option when presented. -
Can't restore mail from Time Machine
We had a power failure last night and when I finally restarted my iMac, I found 99% of my Inbox was gone. When I attempted to restore it from Time Machine, I got the following notification:
"Mail" can't be modified or deleted because it's required by Mac OS X.
I have restored it before without this problem. I would appreciate any assistance.Check your Mailboxes Under "ON MY MAC" and look for:

Can't restore folders from Time Machine after Lion
Hello guys,
after upgrading to Lion 10.7.1 I can't seem able to restore some old folders from Time Machine
Here's what happens: I log in TM, I can scroll through my old backups, I can choose the folders I want to restore, I can click on the folder, but when the systems tries to restore it, it stops saying that I don't have the privileges to access file A in the folder (and then all the procedure is stopped).
Oddly (at least for me) if I try to restore just that same file A (and not the whole folder) that I should have no privileges for, from the same old backup, I can do it, but I have to give the system my password: It pops up a window saying something "Finder is willing to make some modification, can you authorize?" (forgive i'm translating the alert from another language) and then I can restore it.
Has anybody else this problem and how can be solved?
Many thanks
Ps: I did a simple upgrade on Lion, no partition, no blank disk, and never changed anything in my user preferences, it's always the same, administrator
Pps: Before Lion I could restore easily exactly the same folders and files I tried to restore with Lionwrongusername wrote:
But if I transfer everything with the Setup Assistant, won't I once again be experiencing the problems I had?
If the problems were caused by your data. But that's extremely unlikely. It may have been an app, or, much more likely from your description, something corrupted in the Leopard OS. That's one of the problems with upgrading a sick system without knowing what or where the causes are. It's a bit like a brain surgeon operating on himself: if he isn't in tip-top shape to start with, his condition is likely to change, and not for the better.
Most of us would have recommended first simply doing a +*Repair Disk+* on your internal HD; if that didn't help, installing the "combo" Leopard update; if that didn't work, doing an +Archive and Install+ and re-installing the "combo."
After a clean re-install of Snow Leopard, my Mac worked fine again (except for the TM trouble). So it probably had something to do with my old files.
Probably not. Much more likely OSX was somehow damaged. And you got a whole new one.
How come I could read the files on my external HD and yet not be able to copy the files?
Time Machine uses special "deny everybody everything" permissions on it's backups, among other things, in an attempt to keep us mere mortals from moving, changing, or deleting things and corrupting them. -
Can't restore files from Time machine backup?
I kinda successfully restored my files from Time Machine after a clean re-install of Snow Leopard (Time Machine thought they were new files, though, so backed up the 26 GB... waste of space), but now I'm trying to restore the files of the other user on the computer. In her pictures folder, I can't copy the iPhoto Library because I don't have permission to access it! The same problem occurred on my account too, but I was able to go to my Time Machine drive and manually change the permissions for the files I wanted, which doesn't work on her account.
I have made a Youtube video of the error:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1__PdyAetVg
Can anyone assist me in restoring the files? That's all I need help in. Thankswrongusername wrote:

How can I restore iCal from time machine
Hi can I restore the data from iCal from time machine?
The data is in ~/Library/Calendars
The folders have gibberish names; you can't tell which folder is which calendar, so you probably need to restore the entire folder.
But if you have your Calendars synched via iCloud, there may not be anything there, since iCloud is where the "real" data resides. -

Can I restore Espionage from Time Machine backup?
I called AppleCare for assistance with Espionage and was told that my version was out of date. The AppleCare support rep said I should uninstall Espionage and install the new version. Unfortunately, I did.
Now it turns out that if you do that, all of your encrypted files are permanently lost. I asked AppleCare for assistance in undoing the damage they caused but was just told they don't provide support for 3rd party products.
Anybody out there know how to restore Espionage and its data files from a Time Machine backup? You will need a program like:

How can I restore HD from Time Machine on 10.7?
My daughter's MacBook Air had water damage and hard drive was replaced. She has a full backup on time machine. She has already turned on the computer with the new hard drive on and clicked "later" when prompted to restore. What do we need to do to now get all the contents of her hard drive as backed up on TM moved on to her new HD?
Do I hold down command R when I startup?
Yes.
Does this partition the computer's hard drive and therefore use up part of the space?
No. The recovery partition was created when you installed Lion. It's invisible.
Any known problems from doing it this way rather than re-installing Lion and using Set Up Assistant?
As long as you have a full backup to restore from, it should be the same. -
Entourage 2008 calendar deleted. How can i restore it from time machine backup?
I have my Entourage 2008 calendar sync with ical. I accidentally deleted Entourage on the left column of ical, and it deleted the calendar on on Entourage. I want to restore the calendar. I have used time machine to backup my hard drive. I just don't know how or what to do.
Quit iCal.
In the Finder, select Go ▹ Go to Folder... from the menu bar, copy the text on the line below into the box that opens, and press return:
~/Library/Calendars
Enter Time Machine and restore the selected folder from the last snapshot that was taken before the deletion. Relaunch iCal and test. -

Can't restore email from Time Machine
I am running 10.7.2. When I try to restore emails from Time Machine by making Mail the active application and entering Time Machine, nothing happens. I do get a message that Finder is not responding.
I don't have this problem if I am trying to restore contacts from Address Book or files from Finder.
I have checked the TM disk, and there are no problems. I have also repaired permissions.
Any suggestions? Thanks. Here is the output:

Can't restore iPhoto from Time Machine
I have all my iPhoto (iLife 11) libraries backed up to Time Capsule. When I enter Time Machine to restore any other item (for example a Word document) it works fine. But when I try to restore an iPhoto library I get the message that I don't have permission to restore an iPhoto file. I've repaired all permissions through Disk Utility and checked all the file permissions through 'Get Info'. Only iPhoto is affected.
I saw others were experiencing difficultions and suggested opening Time Machine through iPhoto. But when I open iPhoto, and the open Time Machine the desktop is selected instead and I have to go through the Desk top on the Time Capsule to find the User-Pictures- Correct Library.
Any ideas?
GlendaAs that's a permissions issue on TIme Machine I'd ask that on the TM forum for your version of the OS.
