There are a number of possible reasons for that message, including defective hardware that only Apple will be able to fix. The steps you can perform yourself are as follows:
    1.
Perform an SMC reset. Read all the steps.
    Before Resetting the SMC
Try each of the following steps in this order before you reset the SMC. Test the issue after completing each troubleshooting step to determine if the issue still occurs.
Press Command + Option + Escape to force quit any application that is not responding.
Put your Mac to sleep by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Sleep. Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Restart.
Shut down your Mac by choosing the Apple () menu from the upper-left menu bar and then choosing Shut Down.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if it's not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time. The power adapter indicator light may cycle off / on once.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Resetting the SMC for Mac Pro, Intel-based iMac, Intel-based Mac mini, or Intel-based Xserve
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
    2.
    NVRAM reset:
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
After resetting NVRAM or PRAM, you may need to reconfigure your settings for speaker volume, screen resolution, startup disk selection, and time zone information. If issues persist, your Mac's logic board battery (not a portable Mac's rechargeable battery) may need to be replaced. The logic board battery helps retain NVRAM/PRAM settings when your computer is shut down. You can take your Mac to a Mac Genius or Apple Authorized Service Provider to replace the battery on the logic board.

  • HT1338 My Mac says updates were installed for Keynote, Pages & Numbers but when I check the versions they are still the old versions.

My Mac says updates were installed for Keynote, Pages & Numbers, however, the version number shows to be the old version...   If check for updates, it's telling me no updates are available...

The old versions are not removed when the new versions are installed. (The updates add features that improve cross-platform editing of files but remove many other features so the install leaves the old version in case the old features are important to you). If you look in your applications folder you should find both versions.

  • Why does my airport wifi icon now say "No Hardware installed" It has been working for ever

Why does my airport wifi icon now say "No Hardware installed" It has been working for ever

This message comes up when your Mac no longer recognizes that there is an operational AirPort card installed. This can be due to a number of reasons, including card or antenna cabling failure.
You can try either a PRAM or SMC reset. Which you choose will depend on the exact model of your Mac, but most likely, a visit to your local Apple Store is in order.

  • My macbook pro 15inch running on maverick when i try to click on wi-fi says no hardware installed please help i need wifi and and under network staus wi-fi is fail and under network airport is not connected can anybody help the wifi icon has a x and does

my macbook pro 15inch running on maverick when i try to click on wi-fi says no hardware installed please help i need wifi and and under network staus wi-fi is fail and under network airport is not connected can anybody help the wifi icon has a x and does not even let me turn it on

Have you attempted to reset the SMC? That would be the first step. Hold the left control, option, shift key and the power button for about 5 seconds and release. Then try to reboot. Might as well reset the PRAM as well. Hold command, option, P, R on start up until the machine restarts. If that doesnt' have any affect we'll have to dig deeper into a potential hardware failure.
If this method doesn't work, check the webcam that will tell the problem is on the iSight & WiFi cable. If your webcam is ok, then it'll be the WiFi card problem. Hope it can help ;-)

  • JAVA !! I've un/re-installed, updated- done everything and even though my MAC says it's installed, it still won't run.  This is a recurring problem, I wanna scream!!

Why won't JAVA run even after uninstalling, reinstalling, and my MAC says the latest version is installed.
    What is the blasted problem??
    Thank u

To do what you want, you need to download and install the Oracle Java web plugin from java.com.
Before doing that, please see below.
Java on the Web (not to be confused with JavaScript, to which it's not related, despite the similarity of the names) is a weak point in the security of any system. Java is, among other things, a platform for running complex applications in a web page, on the client. That was always a bad idea, and Java's developers have proven themselves incapable of implementing it without also creating a portal for malware to enter. Past Java exploits are the closest thing there has ever been to a Windows-style virus affecting OS X. Merely loading a page with malicious Java content could be harmful.
Fortunately, client-side Java on the Web is obsolete and mostly extinct. Only a few outmoded sites still use it. Try to hasten the process of extinction by avoiding those sites, if you have a choice. Forget about playing games or other non-essential uses of Java.
Java is not included in OS X 10.7 and later. Discrete Java installers are distributed by Apple and by Oracle (the developer of Java.) Don't use either one unless you need it. Most people don't. If Java is installed, disable it — not JavaScript — in your browsers.
Regardless of version, experience has shown that Java on the Web can't be trusted. If you must use a Java applet for a task on a specific site, enable Java only for that site in Safari. Never enable Java for a public website that carries third-party advertising. Use it only on well-known, login-protected, secure websites without ads. In Safari 6 or later, you'll see a lock icon in the address bar with the abbreviation "https" when visiting a secure site.

My MacBook Pro mid 2010 was upgraded to mountain lion os x and then my wifi started saying no hardware installed

    Hello Harrisonhcue,
I would be concerned too if I was getting the message "no hardware installed" when trying to use Wi-Fi on my MacBook Pro.  For a message like this, I recommend resetting your System Management Controller (SMC) and NVRAM.
Resetting the SMC on portables with a battery you should not remove on your own
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

  • My wifi connection says no hardware installed

I cannot connect to wifi. The icon says no hardware connection

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Reset the PRAM > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379 After that, do a SMC reset > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If it doesn't work, hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting to start up in OS X Recovery, and press the Wi-Fi icon at the top right corner. If you can select a network, reinstall OS X, and if not, take the MacBook Air to an Apple Store or reseller because the Wi-Fi card needs to be replaced

  • Mac wifi no hardware installed

    Hey.
I got the MacBook Pro from early 2011, and now it sais: Wi-Fi: No hardware installed?
Anyone who knows how to solve that problem?

Have you gone to the apple in the upper left corner, About This Mac, More Info, System Report and then checked the Hardware and installed ethernet and AirPort to see that it is detecting the AirPort circuitry?  If it is not there, you could have a circuit failure and a good idea would be to visit an Apple genius bar to have the techs test the system and see where the fault is.

  • Lost print capability on Mac 5 years after install

Yesterday my home office network lost print capability with both my Windows and Mac computers. I was able to re-enter a new IP address for Windows - up and running. I have been trying all tricks I know which aren't many due to the reliability of my AirPort Extreme mushroom router. I was able to print once, one document at a time on my Mac but have to reset the network single IP address each time. What's up?

I have been trying all tricks I know which aren't many +due to the reliability of my AirPort Extreme mushroom router.+
Not sure what you mean by that. What have you tried?
First things first, if your Extreme is 5 years old, the proper forum to ask post is in this one: Airport Extreme (non-802.11n model).
Next, if you're really running OS X 10.4.5 you ought to update it to the latest version of Tiger, which is 10.4.11. I know of no reason not to update.
You might be successful by simply deleting the printer from your printer list and adding it again. I've also found it's best to assign the printer a fixed IP address. If your network suffers a power failure causing your Extreme to reassign IP addresses, your printer won't receive a different one next time it boots. When that happens, it makes the printer hard to find, network-wise.
I've assigned my network printers an address of 10.0.1.100, 10.0.1.101, etc, which leaves plenty of available addresses on that subnet, so consider doing that.

  • Need X11... mac says it's installed but I can't find it anywhere

My computer won't let me install X11 from the apple site because it says a newer version is already installed on my computer... except that I can't find said program anywhere. I don't have my discs, they're in florida and I'm in NY. I didn't install things off of the disks because I assumed that everything I'd possibly need would be already installed. What can I do? I can't access the invisble X11 that's already "installed". I know this because I tried to install OpenOffice and it said I needed X11, and told me where to download it.
So I need a program to install a program, but I already have the needed program, except that it's invisible.

Yes, a site helping me install OpenOffice was telling me that I hve to go to the library and remove the X11User.pkg file in order to force it to uninstall so I could ACTUALLY install it... but that file is not in the library. I do hve administrator's access, too.

  • Brand new Imac and wireless is saying no hardware installed? really confused as it was working fine yesterday, brand new Imac and wireless is saying no hardware installed? really confused as it was working fine yesterday

Hi Guys, I juts bought a new Imac and jad it connected to my wireless router yesterday but now when i click on the wireless button on the top screen, it comes up saing wireless hardware not installed, have any of you had this problem? Thanks Tracey

You can quickly see if there is a problem in reporting the AirPort card by going to the apple in the upper left corner, About This Mac, More Info, System report and look at the information on Hardware and the AirPort report...make sure it is not indicating a fault.
If all looks ok, try removing the network information and reentering it and see if the AirPort responds.

  • AirPort says 'No Hardware Installed' after replacing it ?

I have a MacBook Unibody model of 2008 and i was using it when it decided to crash. I restarted it and the wifi wasnt working and it told me No Hardware Found. Since here we don't have any apple stores and it was out of garantuee, i decided to buy a new one and fix it myself. However after replacement and a formating it, the was telling me the same thing. Any solutions ? thanks a lot

Test after taking each of the following steps that you haven't already taken. Back up all data before making any changes.
    1. If you can connect to the Internet via Ethernet, Bluetooth, or a USB network device, make sure all available OS X updates are installed. If Wi-Fi is your only means of network access, skip this step.
    2. Reset the NVRAM.
    3. Reset the System Management Controller.
    4. Boot into Recovery. In the OS X Utilities screen, select Get Help Online. A copy of Safari will launch. Test. If Wi-Fi works now, quit Safari and select Install OS X. If your Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade, so make a note of those before you begin.
    5. Take the machine to an authorized service center for testing.

  • Brand new imac i5 21.5" wifi says "no hardware installed"

I just bought a brand new imac i5 21.5 inches running osx 10.8.2 and minutes after having everything working, wifi stopped working and gave me a "no hardware installed" message on the wifi icon on the top right corner of my tool bar... I'm extremelly upset with it... can't find a solution anywhere. I tried to boot with wireless keyboard and mouse off and it didn't make a difference. Please Apple I need a solution! The computer is fresh out of the box! This is unacceptable.

    Hi Michael Smith 677;
I suggest you take it back and allow Apple to repair it. There is no sense in you attempting to fix when it is brand new that is what they are there to do.
