I lost some new photos because I'm stupid!

Hey there everyone. I recently was importing some new pictures off my camera, and the import kept locking because my hard drive was full. I'd throw out some stuff, and then try again, but it kept happening. So finally I went into the iPhoto files in my user account and threw out the latest folder. In retrospect, I think that was a really dumb move, because about half of my pics for my vacation no longer show up. I still see the thumbnails, but when I zoom in they go blank. I think I'm screwed, but does anyone have any ideas? I had emptied the trash. Can I get the thumbs off of iphoto and at least have those? Help!

David
Well given that you threw the photos away:
So finally I went into the iPhoto files in my user account and threw out the latest folder.
It's hardly surprising that they don't show up anymore.
You now have a major issue the you need to deal with immediately. OS X nneds a good chunk of your HD for basic operations such as virtual memory and temporary files. When it doesn't have that space, then apps crash - and worse, data get corrupted. You need to clear a LOT of material of the HD and do it before using the computer again.
You can move your iTunes and iPhoto to an external drive - post back if you want details on how to do this.
If, and it's a big if on a disk that's over full, you can clear some space, an app like File Salvage might be able to recover your pics.

My wife just got a new iPhone 6 and took some great photos then I connected it to her computer and restored it to her iPhone 4 settings and lost her new photos. Is there a way to recover them?

Sorry, unless she backup up the new phone before or is using iCloud to save the photos, the photos are gone.

  • Restored phone from old backup have i lost my new photos?

I was given a replacement iphone 4 because mine was stolen. After using the phone for a couple of weeks - and taking lots of photos on it - I plugged in my phone to my macbook in order to back up the new photos I had taken on the phone. While I was on itunes I was asked if I wanted to restore my old phone settings and install new software, and i said yes. It asked me if i wanted to carry on with this while the phone was synching with the computer and i said yes.
But then I saw photos from my OLD phone on my phone and also loading onto iphoto, with the computer asking if I wanted to download them.
I then couldn't find my NEW photos on my phone or on iphoto.
Have I lost the new photos?
I went into 'finder' on my computer, found 'backup; and can see hundreds of files, with the time that I was restoring my phone at same time as i was installing new software -
Are these files my new photos?
And how can i open them?
    Thank you!

yes, you have.  Restoring your phone from the other backup wiped out any previous data you had on your phone.  Since you never backed up before, there's no way to get any of those data back.

I have been using Lightroom 4.4 successfully for over 2 years.  Just tried to import some new photos after a vacation and the application crashes when I click "import" every time.  Tried restarting computer.  Version says it is up to date.
How do I get formal support for this from Adobe?

Thanks for the response.  The application was crashing.  A Windows message was displayed showing "Lightroom.exe has stopped working", "Windows can check online for a solution the problem.". Etc.
I just launched Lightroom to check the exact message for this reply - and the Import worked.  It had failed dozens of times before.

  • Somehow I have lost all the photos in my iPhoto - I downloaded some new photos and they went into a slideshow package - and I now can't find my 5000  photos. Hoping it's a simple explanation!

After downloading a new batch of photos, all my iPhoto pictures have disappeared - I have tried to recover them - assume they are in my machine somewhere but how do I get them back? iPhoto is working with all new photos but the old ones have disappeared. Also my screensaver using a picture from my library changed overnight to an apple photo.

Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I made the wrong choice when I connected my new iPhone 5 to my MacBook Pro for the first time (lost ALL my new photos because it restored settings that were 9 months old) - can I re-do this somehow and configure it as a new phone?

I connected my new iPhone 5 to my (now fully updated after two separate operating system upgrades!) MacBook Pro so that I could add my music to my new phone.  Rather than configuring it as a new iPhone, I chose to configure it as my old iPhone, thinking that this would make it easier for my music to be there.  WRONG.  Now my new iPhone 5 looks exactly like my old iPhone 4 did in OCTOBER, 2012 - photos, messages, contacts... anything done since then is gone (that was the last time I had backed up my old phone, which unfortunately was not connected to the cloud and is also lost somewhere in a New England lake :-().  What I could really, really use help with is finding out if I can have a do-over on my choice and at least get my new phone looking/acting like the new phone it is, and bonus would be to have the photos and videos I took with it this past weekend (it's only five days old!) restored.  Please help!

Look iTunes>Preferences>Devices...is a backup listed for your iPhone 5 dated BEFORE you restored your iPhone 4 backup to your iPhone 5? If not, your data is gone. If there is a backup, on your iPhone 5: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings. You should now be able to restore that backup, if it exists, to your iPhone 5.

  • Restored new phone with old one lost all new photos/contacts

I restored my new iphone 4s with my old iphones stuff by accident as it was the first time i had plugged it into my computer and i had some photos and new contacts that i need and have now dissapeared and been replaced by my old photos/contacts, is there anyway to get my contacts and photos back that were on my new iphone before i did this?

Before you accidentally restored your new iPhone, can you remember if you have turned on Photo Stream and Contacts in iCloud? These are found at Settings > iCloud in your phone. If you have toggled Photo Stream on before, then toggling it back on now will push all your captured photos back to your iPhone in a Photo Stream album. Same case with Contacts. If you haven't done that before the incident, I don't think there is any other way to recover your previous data.

No, you really are not getting any such message.
Read the message again.  What does it really say?
All of the media should be on your computer, simply connect the phone and sync it back.

  • HT201269 while backing up new 5s, instead of registering new phone I continued continued with find my phone and lost some new things like voice reminders and retrieved everything from old I 4 phone I want to renew  my 5s back to original. what to do?

If information from old device has been transfered to new device how can I restore the new device back to original?

By that, do you mean return your phone to the way it was when first taken out of the box? If so: Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content & Settings.

  • New Photos Lost when Loading them from Camera to IPhoto

Heres the story. Have a new Powerbook G4, Fuji S7000 Digital Camera, and a Scandisk imagemate Disk Reader for my XD Card. I've used this camera / drive with my PC for a couple years with no issues on importing....but with my Mac, it seems that if I take a group of pictures, and then wait a day and take some more and go to import them are lost. The photos will show on the camera as being take as I always check to make sure I got the shot....but its happened to me twice on my honeymoon where i've taken about 10 photos, and plugged my XD card into the Scandisk reader to import them....and the new photos are GONE. The pictures I'd taken the day earlier are still there...but the new ones are no where to be found. When I remove the disk and put them back in the camera to see if they are there....they are removed from there also. Help!!! I've lost some amazing photos and am getting "spooked" about losing more or even thinking about loading them onto IPhoto. any help / suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi Bill,
Until you or someone here can figure out what is going wrong I suggest using Image Capture to download your images. I also suggest you not to use the option of having Image Capture or iPhoto "delete the photos from the camera after downloading" You should always delete the photos from the camera yourself after you have seen they have downloaded safely to your computer.
Using Image Capture to download images and video clips:
Open up Image Capture which is found in the Applications folder.
When it is opened, go to Image Capture/Preferences
    Under the General button choose
Camera: When a camera is connected, open Image Capture.
The next time you connect your camera Image Capture will open.
In the window that opens you will see an Options button. Click on that button to set your options.
To find out more about Image Capture (it can do a lot more) Click on Help in the menu bar when Image Capture is open.
iPhoto: How to Change the "Open Automatically" Preference
If you find you can't change any of Image Captures preferences or can't access any drop down menus or they are greyed out, check to make sure Image Capture is loose in the Applications folder and not within a sub folder.

  • Drag and drop imported photos in iPhoto '09 causes duplication of old existing photos and loss if new photos

    Good Afternoon All,
I'd be grateful for any help with the following problem.
After importing about 30 photos from my camera into iPhoto '09 (version 8.1.2), I selected the first group of 10 and dragged and dropped them into an existing album in my iPhoto library.        I repeated this process with another  group of photos , dropping them into a different existing album. Again, I repeated this process with the last remaining photos from the original imported group of 30.
This is exactly the same process I have used successfully on many previous occasions when adding to my iPhoto library of 6000+ photos.
However when I later opened each of the 3 existing albums to check on the 30 new photos none of these new photos were visible.     Instead each of the three albums now contained between 5 and 15 duplicates of old photos from different and unrelated albums in addition to their normal content.       These duplicates were not present before I imported the 30 new photos.    I then opened every Album in my entire library of 6000+ photos  without finding any sign of the 30 new photos.   These 30 photos have also disappeared from "Last Import" which now shows a blank page with 0 imports.
I still have the 30 new photos saved on my camera and could import them again. My concern is that with my very limited diagnostic skills re. my iMac OS X (10.6.8) I may aggravate the problem
    Thank you

    Morning Terence
Thank you for your suggestion. When I held the Option Key and opened iPhoto the resulting menu showed 2 libraries , "iPhoto Library" and "iPhoto Library (default )".
I then recalled that 12 months ago I had created this duplicate library when attempting to recover some lost photos.    On opening each of these two libraries in turn, I notice that they are not identical.  Rather than create another new library, I imported some new photos into "iPhoto Library "  and was then able to drag and drop successfully into this library.    When I tried to do the same with "iPhoto Library (default )"  all the problems originally described re-occured.
Having found the problem is in the Default library I would now like to move some photos from it into "iPhoto Library" and then remove the Default Library.
Could you recommend how best to do this or is it not a good idea?
    Regards.....Gilvin

  • New photos taken on iPad Mini (gave it to my sister, she's in other town) appeared in my iPhone photos album?

Last month I gave my sister my iPad Mini, cause she's on university and in other town far away from me.
Then last night I saw some new photos on my iPhone 5s which were obviously not taken by me,  I would know if they were. So I called my sister and asked her if she's been taking photos with iPad, she said yes, and I was feeling kinda confused. My iCloud settings were on iPad.
Does iCloud work that way?? Transfering photos from one town to another? Is that possible?

she must have your icloud account still logged in
have her go into setting, icloud, and see if your email is on there. if you want to keep your email on there just turn off photo stream.

  • Unable to Sync new photos

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this, but I'll just start here.
This morning I tried to sync some new photos to both my iPhone and AppleTV from my Aperture library. I created a new Album from photos in a Project. According to Aperture there are 19 photos in the Album.
However, when I go the Photos tabs in iTunes for my iPhone and AppleTV, iTunes does not see that the Album has any photos in it. This screen cap is from my iPhone:
I can not for the life of my figure out what the problem is. I've shut down and re-launched both apps multiple times; I've created the Album; I've logged out/in; I've restarted. Nothing works. I will greatly appreciate any information concerning how I might be able to sync these photos to my iPhone and AppleTV.
    Regards,
    Michael

Next time try selecting the images in question and do a rebuild previews. Could be the solution.

  • Reinstalled PSE9 and cannot load some PSE9 photos

About 6 months ago, I upgraded from PSE8 to PSE9. During the upgrade process, I converted all my PSE8 catalogs to PSE9 format. After the conversion, I have also added some new photos directly into PSE9, organised and tagged them. Each week, I rotuinely back up my hard drive, including all photos to an external hard drive (not via Adobe backup). Now I have reinstalled Windows 7 and have also reinstalled PSE9. When I tried to load the catalogs from my back-up hard drive, they could not be found, only the PSE8 catalogs. So I again converted these catalogs to PSE9 format, but could not find any of the photos I added in the past 6 months (or when I first converted from PSE8 to PSE9). The original photos exist, but they did not get included in the PSE9 catalog after reinstallation. How can I get these back? Do I now need to reload all the photos I have taken over the past 6 months and retag them all? Or is there a simpler way to get them back into PSE9 (tagged and organised)?

    Hi Ken,
Thank you for the reply, you pointed me in the right direction. Oddly I could not locate the *.pse9db file in my back-up drive (although all original photos were backed up) which explains why I cannot find those photos which I added after converting from PSE8 to PSE9. I will now re-tag those photos and make sure the *.pse9db Catalog file gets copied over to my back-up drive for future use. Many thanks!

  • Adding new photo albums without deleting the old ones

I want to add some new photo albums from "My pictures" but Itunes is telling me that if I do this, it will erase my old pictures. Does anyone know how to get around this?

If the folders you are syncing from are all directly below "My Pictures" then you can sync from more than one by choosing the option of syncing from selected folders. You can't just change from one single folder to the other without erasing the first lot. For example you may choose to sync from My Pictures and inside My Pictures you have folders for different subjects. You can then choose which of those subject folders you want to update to the iPod or you might want to make a folder in there especially for iPod photos. You can drag these folders into an order of your choice inside the selection box. Just note that the folders can only be one level down from the main folder you choose to sync from, they can't be deeper down inside another.
Here's a simple "How To" on downloading photos from a folder and sub folders on your hard disk to an iPod:
1 Create a folder on your hard drive to hold the photos you want on your iPod. Call it iPod Photos for example
2 Inside this folder create as many other folders as you want (or drag and drop existing ones from other locations on your hard drive)
3 Drag the photos you want from your usual picture folder into the appropriate folders you just created. (not necessary if you are using pre-existing folders already containing photos)
4 Open iTunes, select your iPod in the iTunes Source list.
5 Click the Photos tab and select “Synch photos from.”
6 Choose “Choose Folder” from the pop-up menu and select the iPod photos folder you created.
7 Choose the radio button "Selected folders"
8 Tick the folders you want to go on the iPod and click Apply
When you go to Photos on your iPod you'll see each of the folders you have chosen in the menu and you can choose whichever one you want to view.
