I have 3 month old macbook and as you know the palm rest is a separate layer from the glossy shell. these pieces seem to separate and click. it is extremely annoying when typing. is there anything i can do

That's a simple fix. Take it into Apple to have them tighten the palmrest, or do it yourself (carefully) using a screwdriver.
The way to do it is to slightly loosen the two screws on the front right side, then push the palmrest down, and then tighten the two screws that you just loosened. Don't over-tighten the screws, as you can permanently damage the casing. If the front left side is loose, it's slightly more complicated because the two screws on that side are for show only. (They are just there to look symmetrical.) The screws for tightening that part is under the battery. You'll notice that there are *many many* screws under the battery, but you don't have to use all of them. I forgot which exact ones hold the lid to the case. Anyhow, the process is the same: slightly loosen, adjust, and then carefully tighten the screws.

There are, but not with a DVD written as a movie disk. It must be closed when completed, or it doesn't work.
Apple's built in Burn utility also automatically closes any data CD, DVD or Blu-ray disk you burn. Doesn't matter how much space is unused, you can't use it. You'd have to use a more advanced disk creation app, such as Toast Titanium. I then have the option of choosing to write the data as a session:
I can keep doing this until the disk is full. If I've written five sessions to the disk, when I put it in the drive, five CD/DVD icons will appear on the desktop since the OS will treat each session as if they are separate physical disks. At any point you choose Write Disk when writing a group of data, that means you're closing the disk, and again can't add anything after that. So if I had written two sessions, and the third was Write Disk, it's over. I can't put anything else on that disk.

As you probably know the Canon plug-in enables Log & Transfer in FCP7. I'm not sure whether it works with Final Cut Express or not.
Look in Applications>Canon Utilities. I'm running 10.6 as well and that is where it's located on my machine.

X230 8 nubs on the inside of the lid at the top, damaged the palm rest and has created a large chip.

The 8 little bumps you put on the inside of the lid at the top, have damaged my hand rest to the point where it is chipping significantly;
Do the warranties cover this? This is just regular use sorts of things I get from opening and closing my lid.

Purple stuff on mac keyboard an palm rest.

I bought a macbook just over 5 months ago and recently, some sort of purple stuff is is on my palm rest and keyboard. Could this be from when the screen is closed? Thanks

I don't think when the screen is closed (I've had mine for a year and a half and no problems like that), but someone at the apple store suggested Mr. Clean magic erasers and they work really good when cleaning you macbook (just don't use it on the screen).

I am having problems with migration assistant (windows pc to Mac 2011) When I get to the 'Quit other applications' box and click continue, nothing happens. There are no other apps running - any ideas, please?

I am having probems with migration assistant. Trying to transfer data from a windows laptop to iMac 2011. It was working fine when I did the set-up yesterday, but it was going to take hours to transfer some videos so I quit the process with the intention of doing it again at a later stage. However today I find that everytime I get to the 'Quit other applications' box on the Mac and click 'continue', nothing happens. Have checked mission control and confirmed no other apps running. Tried several times with the same result every time. Migration Assistant running on my laptop with the 'Waiting for mac to connect' box displayed. Mac is connected to wi-fi OK as able to use Safari and access internet. Any ideas, please?

Thanks for your suggestions. Have managed to get Migration Assistant working but now have a new problem, i.e. where does it save the transferred files?!! Searched a few forums and it seems it saves it under your old username, or suchlike. Anyway I tried logging on as a new user using my old user name but there were only a handful of files there, couldn't locate the majority of stuff from my old laptop. Anyway I don't intend to go through any more hoops with MA - will just save the important stuff to an external drive and transfer it that way. Not impressed with MA at all. I thought it was supposed to be a user-friendly tool to simplify the transfer from pc to Mac - not my experience, I'm afraid!

Is the W520 supposed to whirrr and click even when completely shut down?

I just received my W520 (#4270CTO) about 3 weeks ago. This is my first laptop (to be used for video editing and animation), so I'm not sure what to expect.
I noticed that when I shut down the W520 (go to "Start" select "shutdown"), it continues to make a very faint whirrr and click noise. The noise pattern goes like this: long whirrrr, click, short period of silence, then it repeats. It does this all the time when the computer is turned off. Even when I don't use the computer for 2 days, and it is turned off, it continues to whirr and click. It only stops when I disconnect the battery and reinstall it. Only then, is it completely silent.
Is it supposed to do that (the whirr and click all the time)?
The whirr and click noise is very soft, so you have to lift it up and listen to it but it is audible. My friend says that it is the hard drive noise, and said it should not be doing that, but he doesn't have a W520, and isn't familiar with it. So I thought I should ask someone else who has one to see if theirs is doing the same thing.
I also noticed that the fingerprint reader LED stays lit all the time except for when the computer is on and I'm using it. It stays green even when the computer is shut down and the lid is closed.
Please help. Is my W520 working properly, or should I call for tech support?

The power brick makes no noise. I am charging the battery now, and the power brick is warm but silent.
I've only noticed the noise coming from the underside of the computer when my W520 is turned off with the battery still attached.
If I remove the battery and reinstall it, the noise stops.
If I plug in the power brick, the noise stops. (The brick doesn't even have to be plugged into a wall socket. I could just plug the power brick into the computer without plugging in the other end to a power supply.)
Of course, if I remove the battery the noise also stops.
But if I use the W520, then shut it down and leave the battery attached, it will continue to make the faint long whirrr and click noise. I have let it sit without turning on the machine for 3 days, and it continued to make the soft noise every day.
I don't suppose your computer makes the same noise. Maybe my computer really is defective. It works great otherwise.

When you click the "3-bar" menu button and then Print, Firefox should show a preview of how the page will look when printed. I'm puzzled why it doesn't.
If you use one of these methods to call up the print dialog, does that work:
* Ctrl+p
* tap the Alt key to activate the menu bar > File > Print

If you are still using Palm Desktop with the Z22 and want to start using the Treo with the same Palm desktop, export the data from the Z22 username in Palm Desktop. Create a new username for the Treo. Import the data into the Treo username then sync the Treo.

How to make a pop up that pause the program (during pop up) and click button to continue OR stop the program

Hi people,
I am using LabVIEW to create a testing program to test a power system. The testing lasts for a loop of 90 minutes.
I would like to make a pop up when the testing is completed. When the pop up message appear, the whole program should be paused (NOT STOP) and when the two buttons (continue, stop) are pressed, the program should continue to run OR stop. [To start another loop of testing in order to make sure data collected is accurate and consistent.]
How do I make this kind of pop up window? I have totally no idea how to work on this. I will be very appreciated if someone could give me some suggestions/help regarding this.

I do not see why you need these 3 while loops. This task could be done with a single while loop, or max 2. Why you need loop A? You could generate data from this array inside loop B. You must use the DAQ and device control part in separate while loops? Maybe you could simplify you code to have one single while loop: at every iteration you could send a new control command to your device(s), and after this do a DAQ measurement.

I just bought a new iPod touch 5g and the buttons are all loose and it charges to 100% in like 45 mins.

All the buttons work and stuff; however the volume and sleep/wake buttons don't click or feel tight enough to be new. The home button works fine though, but is loose. I have compared it to my friends and all theirs are tight and work fine. I bought my ipod at best buy. Im not sure they will replace it seeing as how I didn't buy insurance for it. Would the apple store replace it? ALL the buttons work, BUT are not tight. Also the battery charges way too fast (45 min). What should I do. Will it be okay? Help please.

Based on posts here, the loose buttons seem to be normal. Also, other users have report similar "fast" charging. That usually resolve after a number of charge/discharge cycles.
