I'm a little confused about this apple remote thing

Background: I've currently got a mac mini, which i love, which came with this cool little remote deal which makes using iTunes super easy. Now I'm on the verge of getting a nice new Mac Book Pro and I'm wondering what to do in regards to this remote. What I want to know and have been unable to figure out is, does one remote automatically work for any mac in the vicinity? do you have to program a specific remote to work with a specific computer? I don't want to start playing a song on my MBP and have my mini start playing something else.
Anyone have any experience with this?

I have three remotes, and have two of them paired. One paired to an iMac running 10.4.11, one paired to a MBP running 10.5.2, and the unpaired remote runs my apple dock to control my iPod hooked to the stereo.

The DVD recorder I'm referring to is one I've use for years. It is not attached to my aging iMac in any way. I simply play the video from my camcorder (mini-dv tape based Canon HV20) into the DVD recorder and create a DVD that can be played in any DVD player. I can only do minimum editing so what goes in is what I get. This has been fine for creating dupes of the various things I shoot.
If I buy a new iMac (21 inch), I'd like to be able to download the video to the iMac through iMovie, work with it to whatever degree I wish, and burn it to a DVD that can also be played in any DVD player -- or to use as a master to dupe copies.
What I'm understanding from you and others is that this would be possible if Apple had included iDVD in the software that comes with the iMac, or if I purchase the iLife Family Pack, or buy the correct version of Toast. I'm hoping I can persuade Apple to sell me an iMac with iDVD installed.
Essentially I want to move from a basic process of creating DVD copies to the more sophisticated process of creating one from an iMac.

A little Confused About Apps...

Hi Everyone,
I've been looking at the iPod Touch and it seems like the best-designed player on the market. I'm a journalist and I want to use the Touch to play my interviews, which are voice recordings in WMA format (converted to MP3).
OK, I'd love to do some basic things, and I'm confused about what the June update will offer.
Please tell me if the June apps will allow these capabilities:
1. Play voice recordings with the speaker instead of headphones
2. Allow me to create a folder on the home page to go directly to my voice recordings
3. Drag-and-drop files in Windows explorer directly into a folder on the home page
Yes, I know, I'm trying to use the Touch for an unusual thing, but I think there are a lot of other journalists and bloggers out there who would also use the Touch if it could provide these capabilities!
I'm not interested in fancy games for the Touch. I'm much more interested in expanding basic capabilities.
If I know the Touch will be able to do these things, I'd buy one today!

I understand it's not a real speaker, but I have heard some demos where it was used to play rudimentary sounds. That's why I wonder if it would be good enough for simple voice playback.
I know some people like this, but I don't like is having to always drill down several "layers" to get to my actual recordings. Instead of having to do Music > Album > Playlist, I'd really like to just have folders on the home page. To my mind, this does not sound like a difficult thing to be able to do, though maybe I'm missing something here.
On the drag-and-drop thing: of course, I understand Apple's need to force us to use iTunes. I like iTunes, and use it for music all the time, even though I don't have an iPod at the moment. But it just seems to me that Apple would not suffer if you could drag and drop your valid music files (or voice recordings) directly into folders on the iPod. You'd still have to own legal music files, bought from iTunes.
Anyway, if these hurdles could be overcome, I'd buy an iPod Touch today. At the moment, it's a tough choice. Several other players do some of the things I am asking for, though none of them has the elegance of the iPod.
I just wish Apple would put their elegance together with the capabilities of other players.

I'm confused about the apple ID transition from my aol screen name. Does it continue to use my aol email as my apple ID, converting it somehow or do I need to provide a new email address or just create a new username for the apple ID?

I'm confused about the transition to an apple ID that doesn't use my aol email to sign in. The instructions are vague and ambiguous. Any help would be appreciated.

OK, so if your current Apple ID using your AOL Username (like johndoe), then you need to log onto Manage your Apple ID and EDIT that AOL Username to a valid email address: Apple - My Apple ID
If you have an AOL email address (like [email protected]), and you are not using that as another Apple ID, you can change the AOL Username Apple ID to that. Otherwise, you can change it to any valid email address (which you will have to verify when you change to it).
Hope that clears it up. Post back if it doesn't!

10.10.3 supplemental update confused About this Mac

After the supplemental update my mac book pro has incorrect information in About This Mac. The storage tab shows that I have 223.86GB free of 249.77GB. That is correct. The graphic shows the entire disk consumed by Backup(140.74TB yes TB). This is obviously incorrect. IStat menu also has incorrect disk usage information as well and is reporting 140.96TB free.

I am wanting to find out if I have the Mac OS X 10.7.3 Supplemental Update installed ?
Because I am unable to see it in the Installed Software section of Software Update.
I am also unable to install the Mac OS X 10.7.3Supp.dmg file.
I click on the file and it opens a dialog box saying it is Verifying.
It then opens up a window in the background.
The window contains this icon:
When I Double Click the the icon, it comes up with the dialog window to install the update.
When I get to the step where I select where I want the file to be installed, this domes up:
What does this mean ?
Do I already have the Update installed ?
How do I install the Update ?

What account are you logging into e.g. are you using an email address to log in '[email protected]'), to just an AOL username ('...' without the '@aol.com') ?
Email address iTunes accounts ('[email protected]') are not affected - you don't have to do anything to that account. The only accounts that are affected are AOL username iTunes accounts e.g. if what you are using to log into iTunes is without the '@aol.com' at the end of it.
If you have used your AOL username with iTunes in the past and you have any purchases and/or a balance on the account that you want to have access on after the end of March, then you have to convert it to be an email address instead : Convert your AOL Username to an Apple ID - Apple Support
If you do need to convert an account then you can't use an email address that is already being used as an account's primary email address - so if you also have an account that uses your @aol.com email address then you won't be able to put that address on the AOL username.

HT1689 I have a new laptop, and I am a little confused about my itunes on it.

I can see that my music is there, I guess in the cloud because most of the songs have the little cloud and arrow next to them, so they need to be downloaded to this laptop?
My playlists didn't seem to transfer from the old laptop. Is that because the playlists weren't technically in the cloud? Is there a way I should have done that?

Your library will only be where you copy it to, so yes, your iTunes purchases (those that are still in your country's store) will only show as being in the cloud on your new laptop - if you want to download them on that computer from the store then what you can redownload will show under the Purchased link under Quicklinks on the right-hand side of the iTunes store homepage (and check to see if anything is hidden : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4919)

A little confused on this issue. I keep getting an upgrade for iPhoto but it says I have to go to where I bought it. Here's the problem. . . It was on my Mac when I bought it new.

How do I update my iPhoto? When I get a message saying have an update it also says that I must go to where I purchased it. I got my Mac at the Mac store in Novi and the program was part of the programs installed on the computer at the time of purchase.

A little confusion about router

I understand that I can use my Airport Extreme Base Station as my secondary router. Am I correct that I leave all my Cat5 cables plugged into the Airport Extreme and run a Cat 5 from the FIOS router to the WAN of the Airport, and turn off the radio of the FIOS router? By doing this do I loose and functions? Keep in mind I have TV, Internet and Phone.

There is a great deal of information on DSL Reports about the configuration of the Airport Extreme as a secondary router in FiOS installations. In fact there are many step-by-step recipes for a wide variety of installation options, and tables that show which FiOS functions (e.g.., Caller ID, Media Manager) operate successfully under the various configurations. I am far from expert in such things but the DSL information made installing and configuring my secondary router quite easy.

Little leary about this PSU I just bought...

Well...Ive been having lockup/reboot problems from a certain game, so after exhausting every other option, I decided to jump into getting a new psu. I looked around and almost got an Enermax, but then I saw something intruiging on http://www.frozencpu.com - a modular power supply. I checked out the stats on it, and the voltages seemed really good on it (25A on 12v at least), so I decided to buy it. Well, it just arrived today, and I see that the power supply is a VIOMAX 500W PSU, heavily modded by the frozencpu.com staff (all cables braided, window over psu, etc). I had never heard of Viomax before, so I did some reasearch... I see the psu I bought sells for about $20 (on the high side) for a 500W psu Needless to say, Im really hesitant to put this thing in my computer now... I was curious if anyone here has actually had any experience with Viomax, or any suggestions/recommendations on if I should actually trust this thing in my computer.... thanks in advance!

Yeah, it does have the 4-pin and 6-pins on it. It *looks* ok, even though its *very* light. There really doesnt seem to be all that much to it... I guess I'll just have to try it out and see what happens *gets on his knees and prays* I'll check back here again tonight before I install it to see if you fine folks have had any experience with Viomax or other recommendations for me. I'm attempting to expand my knowlege and skill base by learning both Flash Professional and Flash Builder...
Primarily for the purpose of portability and cross-platform compatibility in my application solutions. I'm not a long-lived hard core programmer, I mainly work in design/art and know my basics for C and C# development.
However, most of the training I've had so far related to Flash and/or Builder APARENTLY uses a subversion of 4 (4.6?).. and well, since I only have access to this Cloud.. Flash Builder is version 4.7, yet has NO VISUAL DEVELOPMENT TOOLS?!?

How should I be looking at these products to create a comprehensive workflow for my projects? Do I create only the UX/UI in Flash Professional with a minimal amount of actionscript.. and utilize something like Flash Builder for creating my libraries and backend stuff?
I am seriously confused here. It didn't look like to me that Flash Professional was very MXML friendly... if at all.
Is Adobe going to embrace a new frontend solution like XAML or HTML5... I am completely aghast by this.

In terms of browser compatibility, the flash runtime is not available on IOS devices and support on Mobile browsers has been withdrawn by Adobe. The flash platform can generate applications for mobile devices and standalone applications for the desktop using Adobe Air and 'projectors'.
Flash professional doesn't do MXML at all.
The Design View was controvercially removed from Flash Builder with the release of FB 4.7. Many people relied upon it, others built their interfaces by writing MXML.
Adobe is no longer developing the Flex SDK and has donated the Flex SDK to Apache as an Open Source project. Flex does not figure in future Adobe development that I can see.
Adobe is embracing HTML5.

Confused about this error.

Sorry, I'm pretty new at this.You write code that humans can understand and put it into .java files.
Then, you call javac, or click your IDE's "Compile" or "Build" button to compile the .java source files into .class files that the VM can understand.
Then you call java -cp some;class;path MyClass, or click your IDE's Run button, to invoke the VM and tell it to run the main method in the MyClass.class file, and that it can find MyClass.class and all the other .class files that it needs in some or class or path (where "some" and "class" and "path" are just dummy placeholder example type thingies)
You should go through a tutorial from the beginning. All these questions will be addressed.

I'm a bit confused about this 32 bit and 64 bit stuff

Martin Evening's book says "If your computer hardware is 64 bit enabled and you are running a 64 bit operating system, you can run Lightroom as a 64 bit program."
Well I'm currently running XP 64 Bit with 4 GB of RAM inside. How do I run Lightroom in 64 bit mode?
He says Windows 7 users and Windows Vista users will want to buy the 64 bit version of Lightroom. I don't see any 64 bit versions of Lightroom. And for those of us on XP?

You can check in task manager, whether LR is running in 32 or 64-bit mode for you. AFAIK, the 32 bit processes should be marked *32 in WinXP also.
What version of LR are you running? Since you installed from CD, you might have LR3.0 installed. In this case I would strongly suggest you download Version 3.4 from here and install it. There have been many bug fixes from 3.0 to 3.4.

A little confused about HDV to DVCPro HD etc

Hi, a couple of people have told me to convert my HDV footage to DVCpro for editing / compositing / fades etc because of the quicker workflow in FCP.
Ideally I'd like to output 720p
Does this sound like a good solution... If so should I:
a) Convert all footage using compressor before starting
b) Just create a DVCPro HD timeline in FCP and render the files there
c) Make a DVCPro HD sequence and use something like nattress plugins to create de-interlaced 720p footage..
d) None of the above..
Also, I know I don't 'need' a RAID 0 for HDV, but would I get any substantial improvement if working in DVCPro HD or Motion projects etc.
I'm working on a Quad Mac Pro with 3gb Ram.

Hi Shane, I am using a Sony HDR-HC1. I'm not sure if the outputs from the camera will plug into the card.
What outputs do you have from the camera? Ah...looking it up I see that it has an S-Video jack. Ick...I wouldn't go that route. Best to rent an HDV deck and use component out. Or upconvert after with compressor.

Shooting a key with HDV to begin with is not the wisest decision. The HUGE amount of compression. I will also say that pulling a key with DVCPRO HD isn't the best either, but is more doable. I don't think converting HDV to DVCPRO HD would make pulling a key any easier. Compression is already there.
