Open the Finder.
From the Finder menu bar top of your screen click View > Show Status Bar
You should now see the the free space available at the bottom of any Finder window and that should change after you empty the Trash.

When does my music go into the hard drive?
When I download my music and send it to ITunes, it automatically goes into the hard drive? I had another hard drive installed just for the IPod. When does the music get saved into the hard drive? When I send it to ITunes or when I send to the IPod from ITunes?
ThanksIf you downloaded music from a music service, its automatically on your hard drive, you just need to point your music programs to the location of your music file.
If you've imported music to iTunes and have iTunes organize the files, iTunes will organize the files in the iTunes music folder.
If you installed a separate drive for music, then you need to point iTunes to the location of that drive. You do this by going to the preferences option and clicking on the advanced tab, there you can set the drive that iTunes will store and search for music. -
My macbook pro froze and initially would not even recognize the power chord. Now it charges, but will not load up. I opened in in disk utility to try and back it up so that I could take it to apple to have it fixed but I got the message that said "disk utility can't repair this disk backup as many of your files as possible". How do I back up the files???

you can try the method described on this Apple page, in the “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility” section. (You can skip step 6, since you already know that your disk is irreparable.) Note, however, that this method is not guaranteed to work. Once you get your disk straightened out, you might consider purchasing an external hard disk for use as a Time Machine backup destination, so that a similar problem in the future won’t wipe out the only copy of your files. -

It will only be where you put it.
It has always been very basic to always maintain a backup copy of your computer for just such an occasion. Use your backup copy to put everything back.
If for some reason you have failed to backup ( not good), then you can transfer itunes purchases from an ipod. File>Transfer Purchases. -

Some of us still use the older Macs and have plenty of spare parts and accessories. The key is finding a Mac User Group by googling your geographic area to find one of us. We happen to be in Washington State and could help you in a heartbeat.
When someone says that their computer died, the first question to ask is if the hard drive died or a power supply. If the hard drive died without a backup, you have an expensive data recovery process to explore. If the computer died because of some other cause, the hard drive can still be put into an external drive and data copied over to another drive.
Your first task is to find someone who has all the tools. What you are asking is a very simple matter for someone with plenty of older computers on hand. Please give more information about what the computer is doing. Does it still make noise when you turn it on? Does it chime? Does the hard drive click? Is it just the monitor that does not come on? Do you see a flashing ? when you turn on the computer. Every noise means something different.

When emptying my trash, I get "The operation can't be completed because you don't have permission to access some of the items." (I always have a hard drive connected and have just found out that if I disconnect the hard drive, none of that trash shows in the trash can....so there has to be some correlation with the hard drive. I have had my mac for a year, and never had this problem before though with the hard drive hooked up and all the trash being able to empty completely.) How can I get rid of the trash. FYI - I do not have the time machine hooked up, so I know that is not an issue. Thanks for any ideas to try!

Hi there I am a new Apple user....using MacBook Pro and also very blonde, I need to move a folder from pictures in Finder to iphoto, if not how do I attach a folder from pictures in Finder to Facebook, because when I try this it only allws me to attach 1 picture at a time from the folder?? Whereas Albums in iphoto are easily posted. So I am vert frustrated becaused I cannot I cannot click and drop Folder from Finder Pictures to iPhoto?? Help me please !!!

Should a new Apple user buy a Macbook Pro?
I am a new Apple user who bought an ibook last August. I am not a techie and still am learning to use it but I love the way it never crashes! I am considering giving my computer to my kids (they have my old Toshiba and it is about to crater) and I am considering buying myself the new Macbook Pro (the 1.93 model). When I look at these forums, I think I may be making a mistake or getting in over my head until they have worked the kinks out with these new machines. Can anyone advise me regarding whether or not to purchase one if I am not a computer whiz?

I'm trying to create a new ichat Acc because for some reason the old one is not working, so I go to Create an Apple ID and start creating a new apple ID, when I submit the Acc it tells me that my Email address is already verified for another Apple ID and thats the only email address I have... What can I do?
There is no way to consolidate iTunes accounts.
Setting up an iPhone has never required creation of a new Apple ID.
You've apparently purchased content with both Apple ID's. Sign into the device with the correct Apple ID and sync the content. -

Apps and music are forever tied to the Apple ID under which they were purchased. If you don't want to continue to get that message, delete the apps and purchase them again with your new Apple ID.

What have you tried to fix it ? If you haven't already done so then see if any of the following fix it :
- log out of your account on your phone by tapping on your id in Settings > iTunes & App Store and then log back in
- close the iTunes store app via the multitasking bar and see if it works when you re-open it : double-click the home button to open the taskbar, and then swipe or drag the iTunes store app's screen from there up and off the top of the screen to close it, and click the home button to close the taskbar.
- soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the equivalent of a reboot.
