I'm about to return this iPhone

I downloaded the latest version of iTunes on yesterday as required by my new iPhone 4.  The device is not recognized in "My Computer" or in iTunes.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, I've checked the connections, I've unplugged/replugged, I've upgraded the driver, I've restarted my PC more times than I can count...NOTHING works!!!  I have a desktop PC, running XP Home Service Pack 3.  I've already made sure that my virus protection (McAfee) is allowing full access to all Apple applications. I tried plugging in my iPod Touch and this device was not recognized either.  I did not have this problem with the Touch using iTunes version 9.0 but this version is not compatible with my new iPhone.   I was on the phone for 3 hours yesterday w/ various techs that could not solve my problem.  Does anyone have any suggestions?

Make sure your plugged directly into a USB2 port and not a USB hub.
Temporarily disable McAfee and any other security software.

  • I'm about to return this amazing Macbook air I'm so mad

    I bought the 13inch Macbook air today, and the laptop is amazing! Theres just one tiny flaw but to me it's so massive. I bought this laptop for 2 things, Starting college, and light on the go gaming. And the problem is every time you left click on this macbook the cursor freezes for about half a second, which means you can't click fast and move your mouse at the same time. This is really crucial for all the games I play and it's driving me insane. I've never had this happen on any other trackpad. I've searched around in the settings and google for about 3 hours and nothing. I'm really close to returning this macbook which would be a shame because other than this the laptop is amazing. So for example if your on a macbook air (I don't know if it's the same on other macs) try clicking fast and moving the trackpad at the same time... As you can see the mouse stops every time you click. (And no an external mouse is not an option) Any fix to this would be so amazing I think my heads about to blow up lol

  • HELP! I am about th throw this iPhone out the window!

    I have had to restore my iPhone TWICE now with tech support guidence. I've has nothing but TROUBLE since both the 3.0 AND the iTunes update, and am BEYOND frustrated!!! I won't even go into all of what else went wrong previously, but now my photos will NOT show up in iTunes to sync on to phone. I have troubleshooted by reading on here...I've tried everything. Before all this trouble I had done it so I know it's not just me. The folders show, but they say 0 pictures.
    Again I'm SO SO SO frustrated. A phone I LOVED and was thrilled with has been nothing but pure frustration since the 17th. Everything I do on it is nothing but a hassle and 2 hours of MY minutes with Apple techs!!! I ahve to admit I am in tears right now.
    I hope I get some replies (!!!!) and thanks in advance... why will my photos not show up? Just empty folders???

    OMG OMG I am so embarrassed....they DID go to the folder as PPSP files. I'm so sorry! Thank you though for taking your time on me. I will go change them all and see if that works. If not I promise i'll come back here before tossing the phone out the window Again I'm sorry...but hey, if it weren't for you I never would have checked. I don't know why it saved them like that!

    Most likely, you have an iPhone 4.  There is no 4G iPhone.

    Yes, it does work.  It is carrier locked to AT&T, just like all GSM iPhones sold in the US since their introduction.

    Unfortunately, you cannot do very much with your phone unless you get assistance from the previous owner, they should either provide you with the password to unlock it or remove their account from the phone entirely remotely through iCloud.com > Find My Phone.

    while you are with the person selling it to you, ask if you can do a complete restore of the software settings->general->reset->reset all
    reboot the phone to factory settings and see if that fixes the problem.  if not, i wouldn't buy it unless they are selling it to you for less than $50.  wifi is crucial for keeping data low and using features like facetime

    Yesterday, I have downloaded the APPSGONEFREE and there is one App called the Victorian Mystery that is still free and i downloaded it. After a few minutes it pop up on my iphone homescreen,  it can't be loaded. So I tried to delete it but it cant be deleted. (there is no x mark on top of it). I then use my itunes to synchronize it  through my iphone but it wasnt able to delete it. I then bought the apps at apsstore ( Victorian Mystery), which is not free for today and I synchronize and it cant be installed on my Iphone. I just cant delete the APP. I need help.

    what you are talking about is called "pull", the phone pulls new messages every 15 minutes.
    in "push" mode if someone sends you an email it is pushed to your phone instantly, you don't have to wait up to 15 minutes for it to show up.

  • Can I return my iphone 5 if I am not happy at how easily it scratches?

    I have only had my iphone 5 for a couple of weeks and I have already noticed scuffs and ***** out of the side and back. I protect my phone with a cover but (And I kid you not) if the little grains of dirt that still somehow get underneath, are scratching the back. This combined with the fact that most apps and movies do not make use of the full siz of the phone, has made me very unhappy. I REALLY want to return my iphone, even if its just to have it replaced. Is this possible? Surely under the warranty I am within my rights to expect a certain level of quality!?

    You have several things going on here. If you bought the iPhone from Apple here is a link to Apple's return policy in the US, I have no idea where you are so this policy may be different if your not in the US. http://store.apple.com/us/help/returns_refund
    If you bought the iPhone from an authorized dealer check their return policy to see if it applies to your couple of weeks of ownership in order to see if it qualifies.

    Lastly, most apps haven't been update to fit the bigger screen on the iPhone 5. This will take some time, at least the apps still work. Hope that helps.

  • My iPhone is not recognised by iTunes [iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. This device is no longer connected]

    When I plug my iPhone 4 in to my MacBook Pro, it charges but it is not recognised in iTunes.
    After about 30 seconds I get the following message:
    "iTunes could not connect to this iPhone. This device is no longer connected."
    The device still charges but is not recognised.
    I've obviously tried restarting both devices / programs. I'm running the laters versions of iTunes and iOS on my iPhone. I've tried all the steps in the troubleshooting pages, and i've re installed iTunes. Stil no luck.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    I am having a very similar issue with my iPhone 5.
    Yesterday I took it to the Apple Store as the battery was draining rapidly, and had the phone restored from an iCloud backup. Everything but my music was synced, and when I returned home to sync my music, the iPhone is only being recognised by iPhoto and I am having error messages from iTunes that the iPhone is not recognised and is unresponsive. I have tried everything I have found online, including trying to connect my phone to my work computer with similar messages.
    Please help!

    I returned my iphone and they gave me a new one and they activated it at the iphone store. when i got home and tried to sync my contacts, they were gone. there are a few contacts that it imported but only about 25% of my original list. I think the contacts that it is syncing is from the mac address book. I have had problems with this phone and recently re-installed the sim card and had to restore my contacts and it worked fine. but this time when i plug the iphone in to itunes, it doesnt recognized the phone with "my name" on it. it just says iphone under the devices tab. where are my contacts? are they stored somewhere else on the mac where i can retrieve them?

    With the iPhone, contacts are not stored on the SIM card, but stored on the device itself. Typically, you want to backup your iPhone contacts with a program on your computer (like Address Book or Outlook) so you have those contacts in case you need to restore your iPhone or get it replaced. When you sync your iPhone with your computer, iTunes will make a backup of your information, but future syncs replaces your backup.
    You can look and see if your old backup remains by going into the iTunes preferences and clicking on the syncing tab. It will give you the name of the iPhone backed up and the last date it backed up the information. If you synced your iPhone before you took it in to be replaced, your contact information may still be included in that backup. You can restore your phone in iTunes and choose the backup you want to re-sync to the iPhone.
