I,m back with same problem with a new twist

I contacted this forum about a month ago and didn,t get any useful advice and so my boot camp installation problem https://discussions.apple.com/message/19306599?ac_cid=op123456#19306599 is still unresolved. I have a new problem now ....I CANNOT GET PAST FILE REC LOCK ITEM WHEN BOOTING UP. I,ve tried a pram reset, safe boot. Booting from original osx snow leopard whilst holding 'c' button. I,ve given up hope of recovering my existing info and would be HAPPY if some wiseman out there could tell me how to do an erase reinstall. I have an IMAC mid 2011 2.7 ghz which I got end of dec 2011. I started on s leopard then lion and then mountain lion. I have file encryption set up with a file rec key I wrote down but it neither accepts it or declines....it just stays on the lock icon with grey background. P.S. If I boot up as normal I get to my login screen as normal. My usual username and password is accepted but it go,s to a grey screen from there and gets stuck and there are no error messages or sounds and nothing for me to click. The power button only works if I press and hold it. Just before this happened I verified and repaired disk permissions and spotlight was re-indexing for ages before it tanked mid process. IS THERE A ANOTHER FILE REC KEY I COULD GET VIA EMAIL RATHER THAN PHONE THE £35 SUPPORT PHONE NUMBER?
Thankyou, peeps.

I installed iOS 6 on my iPad 2 yesterday as well as the above stuff if that helps.

  • With 3.6 and earlier, one website I use would have a "frame" around thumbnails which would go away once I accessed it. Aftwer 4.0, no frame. Frames still there with IE. Is there a setting where I can get them back with the newer versions of Firefox?

    Pretty much what I asked above. Obviously there was a change between 3.6 and 4.0 that is causing this.
    These black "frames" around the thumbnails are very handy as they let me know which ones have been accessed and which have not. Once I would click on the thumbnail, the "frame" around it would disappear. I could come back weeks later and tell what had been accessed and what hadn't.
    I discovered this problem this spring when I upgraded to 4.0 in my laptop. I kept "nursing" the 3.6 in my desktop as I did not want to lose that feature. The other night I tried to update my 3.6 and, unfortunately, I got force-fed 6.0.
    Anyhow, it has to be something you changed when 4.0 was brought out - and has stayed changed in 5.0 and 6.0. As noted above, the frames are still there if I go to the site with Internet Explorer. Sure love to find a way to get this feature back with Firefox!

  • Old AppleWorks bug with a new twist

    Previously I posted
    "After upgrading to 10.5 recently, Appleworks when I select the "recent items" tab, I will hear the drive accessing for 13 seconds then the app disappears. After another 12 seconds I get the "quit unexpectedly" alert box."
    I was told this was an old bug and removing deleted files from the recent visit folder stopped the problem. I thought the problem was solved. No.......................
    The new twist is the following: I have some sparseimage files that are password protected. If I open the file, Appleworks keeps it in recent visits. Then when the sparseimage file is closed and AppleWorks is opened again, it crashes because it can't find the sparse image file open. BUT, in 10.4.11 under those exact same circumstances, the icon was greyed out but didn't cause a crash. My only solution now is to go into the recent items/starting points folder and delete the sparse image file to keep Appleworks from crashing the next time.
    This is a change of behavior between 10.4 and 10.5 and is a royal pain in the behind!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I have gone the plist route but the only thing that will solve the crashes is to physically delete the alias file in the recent file. Other situations with aliases (except AppleWorks) just say they can't find the original document. Escapes me why these aliases are now handled differently in 10.5 in this specific program.
    I have now made startup preferences (and what is seen when a file is closed) to be just showing the open dialogue. I will sacrifice the easy locating of recent files to having to remembering to delete culprit situations/having crashes.

  • I have had the same problem. Any new developments?

    I have installed a vi that works fine on 2 of my XP machines. When I installed the vi on a PXI chasis running Windows 2000, I get the error loading NIvision.dll message. I have removed ALL the NI software, reloaded LabView 7.0, IMAQ 7.0, and I still get the same message. Any thoughts?

    What version of the NIvision.dll is on each machine, (the ones that work and the one that throws the error message)? You can check the version in MAX by expanding the Software tree, selecting IMAQ Vision, and then the main part of the screen will display the version, such as 7.0.1.187.
    Also, do other VIs exhibit the same problem? For example, what happens when you load a LabVIEW Vision shipping example on the Windows 2000 system?

  • It's been awhile, but I'm back with a new problem...

    Hello guys, it's been quite some time since I've been stumped and needed to resort to the best resource on the net... You Guys! lol anyway, here is an image of what I need to create and I've been trying to do this using line segment or pen, but my problem with line segment is the blunt ends and the pen does not allow me to change the stroke width to reflect the wider lines.  I'm still a newbie and probably always will be, so easy to understand instructions are as always, greatly appreciated.
    The "Dial" is actually this wierd rectangle shape with the odd dip at the top, but all I need is the black artwork inside the dial.  You can see that the side lines are a different width then the top and the sides slant inward a bit.  What would be the easiest way to re-create this and keep the stroke width correct?
    Thanks guys!

    Jber,
    Or, starting over you may get both the slanting and the constant widths and horizontal top/bottom ends if you:
    1) Create vertical straight stroke/nofill paths with the same widths as the original (one width for the three long ones that are to form part of the Compound Path and one width for the six short ones within) and distances as the (almost) vertical ones measured at the bottom, you may make them all full length (top to bottom) and maybe a bit to bite off;
    2) Select all and Distort with the Free Transform Tool, dragging (inwards) by the top left corner while holding Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift until you have the right slanting/perspective;
    3) Object>Path>Outline Stroke;
    4) Lock/hide the three wide paths;
    5) Create horizontal paths where you want to cut the six shorter/thinner ones, and Object>Path>Divide Objects below, and remove the unwanted parts;
    6) Unlock/unhide the three wide paths;
    7) Create horizontal paths at top and bottom with the desired width (same as the original) as Stroke Weight and Object>Path>Outline Stroke;
    7) Select 5) and 6), Pathfinder>Divide, and remove the unwanted parts;
    8) Pathfinder>Merge and delete the empty paths inside the Compound Path.

  • Back with a new question

    Ok I am a guitar player and new at this computer stuff,
    but my question is should I just plug my Alesis drum machine in as a instrument, or is there an easier way with the drums that are already built in to
    garageband, so far all I can figure out is how to click the mouse on the piano to get what I would say poor drumming,now is there a way to click it on like my drum machine to play say rock drums or should I stick with my drum machine that seems to work fine?????

    You can use the editor to edit drums the same as you would on a drum machine. I usually start with a simple green drum loop, call Straight Up Beat 01, which is very basic. And I use it as a sort of more inspired click track. After I get the basic song down on guitar and bass, I then go in and edit that loop to become my drum track. At first, I just loop it all the way across the song, but when the editing come, I drag it back to the single loop, and copy over and over, so I can add subtle differences and fills/accents where needed. If you know how to program your drum machine, you'll catch on to this quick.
    If you really want to tap it out, google for the freeware MidiKeys (I think that's it) and you can then use your computer keyboard instead of the tiny piano and mouse.
    If you ever want to add some keyboard stuff, consider getting a midi controller keyboard, such as the M_Audio Keystation 49e ($99), which makes all of this even easier, plus you can play keys with it, too.

  • Just got my MBP back with a new logic board but...

    Hello all
    I just got my laptop back yesterday. They did the logic replacement due to a bad graphics card (nvidia) I was not under warranty. I was having the Videocontroller error on the AHT. I just ran the AHT today via the apple disc. It came up with 4SNS/1/40000000:TGOD-86.500. I also noticed my superdrive does not accept blank disc media, it spits them out after a few seconds in. It still install and read programs off it. Burning discs is just the issue. I posted that issue here http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12410595#12410595 But prior to the new logic board, it recognized the discs as "blank"
    Please any help would be appreciated.
    Marc

    I had an issue whereby only certain DVDs were usable.....some were, and some weren't.
    My MBP went in for repair and the SuperDrive was replaced under my AppleCare extended warranty.
    You'll likely need your SuperDrive replaced.
    If I didn't have Applecare, I'd be up Shyte Creek by now with some very costly repairs on my September '08 MBP.
    BTW, My MBP had two logic board failures in its second year of ownership which were replaced under my AppleCare warranty.

  • Old problem with a new twist !

    My Ipod mini is frozen on the do not disconnect screen (not flashing) I accidentally disconnected it without ejecting/stopping the device I have tried to reset it several times using the - toggle hold press menu/play - method and the 5 r’s method (except restore as itunes does not recoginse the ipod) with absolutely no joy. Its is not being recognised by itunes at all and when I connect the ipod to my pc (windows xp) a pop-up window says USB device not recognised due to a malfunction with device……please help!!

    Leopard requires at least a Mac with an 867MHz or faster PowerPC G4 processor -- see the Minimum System Requirements section of Mac OS X v10.5.6 Leopard - Apple Store (U.S.) or just look on the retail box packaging.
    According to your profile info, your Mac is an "iMac DV," apparently a 400 MHz PowerPC G3 model. Since that isn't even close to meeting the minimum system requirements for Leopard, & the installer disc itself runs a version of Leopard as well as installing it, it is no surprise that you get a kernel panic when trying to startup from the disc.
    IOW, your G3 Mac cannot run any version of OS X beyond Tiger.

  • HT4623 How do I get the WiFi back with the new ios6 update for Iphone 4?

    I updated to the new iOS6 last night and I can't get the WiFi to connect.  I've read today Steve Streza, lead platform developer for Pocket.com, a San Francisco app vendor, outlined the issues. "Your phone checks a page on http://Apple.com to see if your network is working. If not, you're probably on a network like a hotel/airport, where you have to agree to their terms before you can use the Wi-Fi. Then they show you the page so you can agree."
    (http://www.apple.com/library/test/success.html ...
    Passbook does not work on iPhone 4.
    If the update does not apply to my phone then they shouldn't offer the update.  It causes too many problems.
    I want my WiFi back.  This is costing me a fortune and I think apple needs to cover these costs!

    The songs I'm trying to reload on my phone are on my PC.  These we had loaded into iTunes.  I can remove them all from the library and then add them all back one by one I imagine.  The problem I'm having is that I removed them manually from the phone, they still appear in iTunes music library yet they won't sync.  I don't want to take the time to compare the phone to my library, remove from the library what's missing on the phone and then add them all back again.  64GB (mostly music) will take a while.

  • Ye old partitioning debate, with a new twist.

    Ok, maybe not entirely new, but a new dilemma for me. Up until now I've subsisted with a 160GB scratch disk, and pushing project scratch media onto a 250GB firewire drive in a pinch that is used for archiving old projects.
    My business is now moving at a pace that that limited amount of space isn't enough to hold my scratch needs when I have many simultaneous projects. So I bought a 500GB Seagate 7200.9.
    Now, realistically, I doubt that I'll use more than 300GB at any given time for scratch media--so I don't want to "waste" the 200GB remainder.
    Assuming that I decide to create a 300GB scratch partition, what are some other things that would be safe to move to the same drive, without causing situations that would require drive head movement. Like, can I move my iTunes library there and free up 17GB of my system drive? Non-FCP projects and data from my Documents folder?
    Does Rob Griffith's overzealous partitioning schemes (http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/editors/2005/10/partitionsave/index.php) have any value considering our specific needs that aren't shared by other professionals?
    Backups are a non-issue. I have dedicated drives to mirror my system drive, and backup my archived projects. Should I just let the 500GB sit as a single partition and "carefully" make use of it's storage capacity when my other drives overflow? My system drive is only a 160, and has only 40GB free on it. The 17GB from iTunes is looking like an attractive move. Or should I run that from the 250GB Firewire?
    Should I not make this decision while drinking a couple McEwan's Scotch Ales? Probably! Hence the post.
    2x2 G5 PowerMac   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

    Fragmentation occurs on drives whether or not they're partitioned. Your media files will become fragmented as you move captured clips on and off the drive. It's the nature of the beast.
    One advantage I can see in having a separate media partition is that when you're done with a project, you could reformat just that volume in order to start your next project with a clean slate - so to speak.
    But on my system, with multiple projects online at any given time, and media being captured and deleted for various projects as I go, that wouldn't work for me. I simply defragment using Tech Tools Pro every other month.

  • I have my grandfather's old computer. I have deauthorized his account and authorized mine, it still only has his music and won't allow me to access his. So I uninstalled iTunes and reinstalled it, only to have the same problem on the new iTunes. Help?

    It still has all his music, even though it is supposedly "deauthorized" and won't work with my iPod without erasing my information. Has anyone encountered this problem, and does anyone know how to fix it?

    Yeah... that's how it works.  Signing into iTunes does not magically make a library appear.
    If you have an iTunes library (media purchased from iTunes) then YOU need to put it on the computer.
    Also, since the computer is no longer authorized for his account, any media associated with his account will not be playable.

  • I have the same problem on my new officejet 8500A Premium..

    I cannot activate the web service on the printer setup. I hope their will be a solution very soon. If not I will return the printer to Staples store.

    What other devices are you trying to connect them to? For what purpose? iOS only has a limited set of BT profiles. You can connect to keyboards, speakers, headsets, car systems and, from within the Personal Hotspot settings for tethering.

  • Problem with the new OVI player - no access to com...

    Yesterday i've done the forced update to the new OVI player - now for the second time. Two weeks ago i deinstalled the new player and returned to the old Nokia Player by reinstalling, but this doesn´t work any more. This time i have the same problem. The new player seems to run fine - much faster, but when i try to download (comes with music) a song the download doesn´t start. The symbol of the button is changing to the the dots but nothing happens. My account is ok, because download of songs with XpressMusic 5800 is possible.
    I tried already a lot of things and now i'm going now a bit mad. Reinstalling the Ovi Player, reinstalling the whole Ovi Suite, reinstalling .NET Framework, checking and updating all OS components - I am using still Windows XP.
    Is there anybody out there who has the same problem or anybody of the software developers that can help?
