I'm completely baffled - Can't browse my network

I'm completely going out of my mind and any help would be greatly appreciated because I'm at 6-8 hours of troubleshooting on this problem.
I HAD a Linksys BEFSX41 connected to the ISPs modem but the WAN port on the router starting broadcasting bad packets and then went dead. Everything worked beautifully up to this point.
I replaced it with a WRT54G, v4.21. The router is configured this way:
(1) Does NOT have wireless feature turned on (everything is hardwired)
(2) Is a DHCP server
(3) I can get out to the web, no problems.
(4) I can ping everything inside the router, EXCEPT two desktops can't ping each other but they can ping everything else.
(5) I can't browse anything inside the router from any machine, laptop included.
Here's the stumper, I put the old BEFSX41 back on line (without the WAN) and I can see and browse everything.
Here's what I've done on the two desktops question:
(1) I've reinstalled the 'Microsoft client'
(2) I've reinstalled 'TCP/IP'
(3) I've reinstalled the 'File and Print services'
(4) I've reset the router to the default settings
(5) I've reflashed the router just to make sure there were no errors
(6) Using MSCONFIG I've stopped all startup services
And here's what's just killin; me...
(1) I used a cross over cable to connect the two desktops and they can't ping see each other, but, I plug them into the old BEFSX41 and there are no problems. I'm not crazy, I'm serious about this...and there are no ghosts in my house playing games with me.
(2) If I use the cross over cable and connect one desktop to my laptop, no problem.
I just don't get it...I'm completely stumped.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I made the changes to the router config...no luck. From MSCONFIG I stopped everything, plus turned off the Windows firewall...there is nothing preventing the machines from communicating. Plus, I used the crossover cable and wasn't able to communicate, so that told me it was with the machines and not so much the router. Plus, I can get out to the web, I can ping outside hosts, but can't ping the desktops from inside? But can ping other things inside? Weird.
Here's what I did: After furter testing, I came to the conclusion the problem is with the WinXP OS, so I focused there. I couldn't find anything so I got another desktop, reformatted the harddrive and installed WinXPPro. All of the problems are gone. Sooooooooooo....
I blew away one of the desktops that was having problems and reinstalled everything from scratch. Guess what...all of the problems are gone. I dont' get it...but, I'm currently reinstalling everything on the other desktop as well.
I know this isn't a good solution but I can't afford to be down any longer...and if it works...you should probably do it.

I installed a free file explorer on my Android tablet. I can easily browse my network shares and access all my media content. I can play my movies, music, TVshows, anything by just browsing to the folder and selecting the file to play. It took me 5 minutes to figure this out on my Android tablet. I've been trying to do this for about 3 hours on my new ipad 3. I have yet to even find a file browser type app. Please don't tell me there is no way you can do this with an ipad. There is no way to play all your multi-media files with my very expensive ipad. I have so much media content I would love to access via my ipad, but I can't. Has Apple done this on purpose to lock down their devices so users can't do anything flexible? This is a HUGE difference between Android / iOS.
Also, I'm able to visit music.google.com on my Android to play my music. Besides iTunes, does Apple have a way the user can access a simple website and play their music files? I'm finding all this very troublesome and such a limited factor with Ipad. Please help!
If it ends up that Apple's brand new ipad can't easily browse a network and play media files then I'm going to return the two of them I bought. Just not a capable device if it can't do something so trivial.

I'm still trying to find a way to do this simple task. Everyone has home networks now and not able to simply browse to a folder where you keep your video/music files is quite a problem with such a brand new, ultimate tablet. I can even do this with my Android phone I have. I have terabytes worth of music and movies and if I can't watch them with this ipad tablet then I for sure will return this tablet and buy Android from now on. I'm now finding out how locked down Apple products really are and how limited UNLESS you BUY an app or only go through an Apple type portal. I wonder if people know that you can't play your media you have saved at home with an ipad.

Can't browse local network nor share iTunes with wireless

Hello.
I'm using WRT54GX-v2 wireless router. I have 2 Macs connected to it, one through cable and one through wireless. When I open the Network in the finder I am unable to see one computer from the other. (My sharing prefs are set correctly.) I AM able to connect by connecting directly to a specific local IP address.
However, if I connect the MacBook with cable, the desktop Mac shows up in the Network browser. (This is how I know I have my Mac settings correct.)
This also affects iTunes - if I configure to share my library from my desktop Mac, it doesn't show up in the Macbook. Unless I connect with cable. For the network browsing I can workaround it by connecting to a specific IP, however iTunes doesn't have that option of manually connecting to a shared library on another IP address.
Can anyone offer assistance/suggestions on how to get browsing to work?
PS. I have tried an older router I have of a different brand, which doesn't have this problem, however it has a problem with dropping connections to my ISP, which is why I got a new one.

Are you using any fixed LAN IP addresses? If so, which devices have fixed addresses, and what fixed address is each device using? Also state your router's DHCP server range.
Can all your computers get a working Internet connection through the router?
I am not familiar with MACs, but in PCs, "file and printer sharing" is turned on one network adapter at a time. In other words, the both the ethernet card and the wireless card must individually be set to "file and printer sharing". Maybe you need to enable file and printer sharing for your wireless card.
If you are running a software firewall on your computer(s), temporarily turn all of them off and see if that helps.

Lion VPN with a Windows 7 client; can't browse network

So, here's my setup..
I have a Lion Server running VPN (192.168.1.11 /24), a windows box behind the VPN (192.168.1.15) and a Windows 7 client connecting.
I've been able to get the Windows 7 client to actually connect to the VPN. I can also manually go to the client machine (i.e. \\192.168.1.15 ), and I've even thought of creating a static hosts entry for the netbios name -> IP, but, while all that works, the simple fact is that I can NOT browse the network using either a mac client OR a windows client.
DHCP/DNS is being done by the router (A Verizon Actiontec router with a MoCA connection.)
I COULD get the lion server to serve dns/dhcp for the whole network, but, haven't yet. Lion server uses the router IP as it's DNS (and does not use the local DNS at all). I've tried to both ways though; didn't solve the issue.
So, is there any way to fix the ability to browse beyond the VPN? Lion does not include (that I can find) a WINS server....
Lion server is DMZ'd from the router. So, all ports are open.
Help!

I'm new to Playbook.
I have a Verizon 9850 connected to my enterprise and a playbook with bridge.
I can read my emails through the bridge but I can not browse company network with the playbook, I can with the phone.
I turned the wifi off and tried it but nothing is working.
Any ideas?

When downloading is complete, I can not see, run, nor access the file; it only appears in the "Downloads" window (and not the specified folder) and the only options permitted are to delete it, or to go to the download web site; what's blocking it?

My PC's OS is 'MS Windows Vista Home Premium'. As my initil question states: When downloading, after the download completes, I can not see, run, nor access the file in it's designated folder. The download only appears in the "Downloads" window and the only "Right Click" options permitted are to "Remove From List", "Select All", & "Copy Download Link" I also can not double click to run it. What's blocking it?
I have a similar problem when accessing .zip files that are attachments to my emails. Here, however, I can place the file in a designated folder, however, the .zip file and it's compressed content files are file-typed as "FireFox Document" and I get permissions errors when running an unzip tool.
Why are my download files being quarantined ??? Is there a security setting option I need to change???
To get around this, I'm using IE to download and install these files, but switching back & forth between FireFox & IE is a real pain.

Can't browse top charts, etc. in Apple Store

Hi! Does anyone encountered the same problem I experienced with my Ipad2 recently? I can't browse top charts, etc in my Ipad2, but it checks for updates & I can still search for a specific application, Same goes with my ITunes & IBooks. For ITunes it doesn't display the movies, music, tv shoes, etc. when I clicked on it but if I typed in the search box it searches & shows result.
I've tried turning off then on again my unit but still the same. Hope someone can help me. Thanks!

Have you tried closing the iTunes app completely and seeing if it works when you re-open it ? From the home screen (i.e. not with iTunes 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the iTunes app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
Another option is to try logging out of your account by tapping on it Settings > Store and then logging back in.

That's not quite the proper way as far as I can tell. Usually, one boots directly into the Recovery HD using COMMAND and R keys at startup. If you cannot do that then most likely there is a problem with the hard drive. Since this is a new computer i would make a Genius Appointment and take it in for service.

Try Troubleshooting the MagSafe adapter
If the Mac freezes, it may be a preference setting.
Check System Preferences > Energy Saver
See if Restart automatically if the computer freezes is selected. If it is, deselect that box.

Client can map a network drive but programs can't browse to it

Greetings. I have Windows Server 2012 Essentials and this problem has come and gone and come back again but I'm not sure what the solution is:
I have shares on the server.
The client (Windows 8.1) can open the shared folder as a "Mapped Network Drive". Explorer can open it, browse, modify. However, Quickbooks can't browse to the drive on the client. It does not "see" it. Neither can Firefox.
This is on more than one client. What I did on the client is added the folder as a "Network location" and this does allow the programs to see the share. But I would like to know how to make mapped network drives stable and reliable. If
anyone has any insights, please let me know. Thanks.

Please navigate to the Network location and select this map network drive. Right click it and select Properties.
In Properties panel, please select Security tab and check if you assign related permission correctly.
Based on your description, I understand this issue just occurred in those third-party applications (such as
QuickBooks and so on). So, I find following solution in the QuickBooks website. Please check if can help you to solve this issue.
