I'm confused about BIOS update

I have been told by Tempo to download a new BIOS.
Done this and unziped it.
The help page for laptop BIOS tells me to run the *.exe file to run the program in the windows environment.
Problem: there is no exe.
The ZIP is 20080311101712
If I try to run the help file it tells me it won't run on Vista.

Hi,
i have downloaded the bios and there is a exe file.
SWinFlash.exe
You need to start this I think.
And if you have problems to run the update on Vista, I would try to start it as "Administrator".
(right click on the *.exe file and select run as administrator)

[MSI Z97 Xpower AC] Confusion about about BIOS updating...

So I am a newb who has just finished his first build, using the "MSI Z97 Xpower AC" motherboard (purchased last month).
The first thing I want to do is update the BIOS.
But I am a little confused about how I should proceed.
In the manual, it describes the "M-Flash" method for updating BIOS.
But as I was reading reviews of this motherboard, there was some talk about the manual being "out-dated" in regards to BIOS update instructions. Some people suggested using some "forum method" for updating. I also see this topic which provides an alternative method for updating the BIOS:

So how do you think I should proceed with updating the BIOS?

I agree with that. Although for this motherboard (any with Dual BIOS), it should not matter whether it's safer or not, as you can always restore bricked BIOS by using secondary one
As you are using very first version of BIOS (v1.0) you can either use >>This One<< for MFlash which is latest official available v1.7 from MSI's product website OR for latest official/BETA BIOS to be used with Forum flash tool, you have to ask Svet to prepare a file for you (simply ask for it on current topic)
But the real question is: do you have any issues with your system that BIOS will fix it?? Because if your reason to flash is "I want latest", then forgive me, but that's the worst "reason" you might ever have.

Satellite Pro A200 - question about BIOS update

I have a Satellite Pro A200 (PSAE7E) with Windows Vista and XP that were installed recently.
In Toshiba's driver page (BIOS update) says:
"This Bios is only compatible for Notebooks with Windows Vista!!!!"
1) Should I update my BIOS(1.4) or is it going to be a problem for my XP windows?
2) Has anyone try it?
3) Is there documentation about the BIOS updates (bug fixes, etc)?

I think the description should be clear if the BIOS description says that the BIOS is only compatible for notebooks with Windows Vista then you cannot use it with Windows XP.
I think nobody should check if an Vista BIOS would be run on the XP notebook because mostly a wrong BIOS can damage the motherboards ROM on in your case some notebook features will not run correctly.
I didnt find also any reports about any fixed BIOS bugs it seems something like that was not published on Toshiba European site.

[Athlon64] Confused about BIOS versions

I'm looking to upgrade my BIOS - but since the layout change in the BIOS download section, I'm confused.
1) What's the difference between Award and AMI BIOS'?
2) Am I to use an Award or AMI BIOS for my board?
3) Under the AMI BIOS's (the only ones available for my board), the Special Note says that versions 1.x and 2.x don't work with the K8T Neo-F. I'm using an earlier version - does this include my board?

You install an AMI bios as a motherboard only had one bios type and yours is AMI.

Don't know what the red means though so someone needs to clarify that for you.

Uncertain about bios update dv6 1143TX

Hello, I was wondering wether or not I needed to update my laptops Bios. I have not updated the bios since I bought it and it does say there is an update available. I am skeptical on wether or not It is worth updating, as I have seen alot of other users encounter some serious problems from running such an update. My laptop model no. is dv6-1143TX and my Bios version is F.12Do I need to update it, what problems will/can the update incur, what happens if I don't update, and If I need to update which update do I need? Hi Erico. Wanted to update you on my 2 issues about the Bios Update and attempting to get my HP dv6-1355dx from Window 7 to Window 7 SP1. First of all thank you again for all your advice and steps to get the laptop bios upgraded to F.46. It worked fine and I am now at this latest bios level. But still at Window 7 only and the system is running great. Unfortunately, doing the bios update, as well as all your other recommended steps did NOT help me to get Window 7 SP1 (KB976932) upgraded on my laptop. Bummer! I've been trying for 4 months now and thought the Bios upgrade would do it. So did Microsoft folks. I run HP Support Assistant now and it comes up clean that I don't need any driver updates, etc. and the bios is up to date. But, still with multiple automatic Win 7 SP1 updating and trying with the downloaded file version, it just won't update to Win 7 SP1. Same error everytime (error code 8024200d). Microsoft and many folks in the communities have a long list of things to do when one gets this error. Mostly it talks about getting the lastest drivers first before installing Window 7 SP1. Tried just about them all and still no success. I've just about given up on trying to upgrade my laptop to Window 7 SP1 (myself). So, I've decided to wait for Window 10 (for free) to be available. I can't reserved a Win 10 version since I am not at Window 7 SP1 nor do I get the icon to reserve a version in my tray. So, I contacted and registered with HP SmartFriend technical support in the hopes that they can (with their $29.99 upgrade to Win 10 offer) get me upgraded to Window 7 SP1 or Window 8.1 and then get me a version of Window 10 and upgrade me. They indicated they can do this for me via remotely accessing my laptop.It's a plan and one which I hope the HP SmartFriend guys will successfully complete for me. Anyway, I do want to thank you again so much for you original suggestions and for helping me with my Bios updating.Thanks so much for helping me with this and I appreciate your time and responses. Wish me luck with my alternate plan to just get me to Window 10 (instead of that Window 7 SP1 which I could never do myself). Thanks buddy.Frank

Really confused about app updates since I moved countries?

I have spent the last few days trying to figure out exatly what the impact is with changing country and card details on my Apple ID to a new location.
I changed from Ireland to the UK, and then I realised all my purchases were no longer in the 'apps in the cloud' section meaning I couldn't redownload easily!
I subsequently talked to senior advisors in Apple and they informed me it was not a big deal and I could download the apps i've paid for already in the Irish store for free. (including both the Mac App store and iTunes store/iOS store)
So all though not great I was happy enough with this solution, while I live in the UK I can redownload what I need for free on demand and when I move back to Ireland I can change it back and all my purchases will be there again, they also confirmed it doesn't affect other Apple ID services like iCloud.
Updates are still confsuing me though, I was told that iOS devices would recognise updates and show new updates in the store (which they do!)
I was also told that iTunes would not allow updates of apps purchased in the old store but I could sync back updates done on my iOS devices... This was the case until I installed iTunes 11.0.4 tonight when for some reason it let me update all my apps in iTunes with no problem?!
So my question, did something change in 11.0.4 and now I can get updates for alll apps (old store and new in iTunes)?
and what about Mac App store - will I get updates for my apps from the old store in that?

I have three specific questions though...
1. Many complaints i've seen online about iTunes not letting you update apps purchased in a different country store to the one you are using --- However with iTunes 11.0.4 I am able to update all apps purchased on different stores with no problem, and I seem to also get updates on my devices, is this correct?
2. For applications I purchased in the Mac App Store before I changed my country on my Apple ID, Will I still get updates, and update notifications for these applicatons? (I see people online say that I will not get updates for any apps I purchased on the old country store now that I am changed to a new country store?
3. Will all system updates still occur without issue? (OS X update, Security Update, Firmware?)

Confused about iWork Update

I have just updated the Mac Mini to OSX 10.9.1 and performed all the available SW updates. However, I have a strange problem witth iWork and the App store, I don't understand what is happening.
According to the App store, I have Numbers 3.0.1, Pages 5.0.1 and Keynote 6.0.1. What is actually installed on this Mac is Numbers 2.3, Pages 4.3 and Keynote 5.3. When I run these apps, I get a nice message inviting me to update to the next version, I accept, OSX downloads many many megabytes, finishes installing, but I don't get a new version.
In the console, I see the following message:
12/17/2013 7:21:06.072 PM com.apple.internetaccounts[1988]: *** Entitlement com.apple.private.iaaccounts is missing.
Whats happening here? Am I being invited to upgrade to a SW version I'm not entitled to? Isn't the App store supposed tto sort out those details before downloading the SW?
Also, I here lots of complaints about the new iWork and missing options - is Numbers 3.0.1 actually better than 2.3?

Are the Applications in the normal place? I had a bit of this when I upgraded, but found the newer Apps where in fact installed, they just didn't remove the old ones.
Assuming you older iWork is in the normal and expected place it should upgrade.
Try double checking as to whether it might be there?

Confused about how updates work

I just submitted my first update to an app and what I see in iTunesConnect confuses me.
Firstly it looks like two apps now; the same one twice (though one says 1.0 and the other says 1.1). This wouldn't be confusing except for the fact that when i update information for the update it also alters information for the original app. For example I changed the release date for the update to some date in the near future; but I noticed this also changed the release date for the original 1.0 description as well; will that pull my app of the app store? Basically I am just curious how to ensure that when the update hits I go back to the top of my categories list again. Can someone shed some light on this for me? Thank you!

The release date in iTunes Connect tells Apple the date before which you do not want your application to appear in the App Store.
It has nothing to do with the "Release Date" as shown to users in the App Store. That can never be changed.
If you want your 1.1 to have a newer release date, you need to create it as a completely new application. It will have to have a different name from your 1.0, since they won't let you have two applications with the same name; existing users of 1.0 won't be able to upgrade to it; and it will have no history, no reviews, and no reputation.

facing the stange problems ive got, i thought that i would flash my bios to the latest version as the current is something 1.9 while the latest is 1.D
my system is a MSI K8N Neo4 and im confused with the flashing instructions as the first thing the flashing instructions state is not to flash from
a floppy. now since i am not to flash it of a floppy, how should the flashing be done?
the reason i want to flash is that when i attempt to install opensuse linux 10.1, it states that the system bios is representing 3 drives as configured
for raid, i have zillion checked the bios and resetted all the settings just to make sure yet it always appear the same, any ideas? feel a bit helpless here.

maybe one of the guys in the Nvidia area can advise a bit better on whether the Nforce4 RAID is software or hardware controlled

Confused about update method in JComponents

I'm a bit confused about the update method in JComponents. What I remember from applets was that the update method was called whenever something changed such as a window being dragged across it or something.
I've written a class that extends a JPanel and overwrites the paint method. Any components I add to it aren't drawn. I can add JComponent.update() methods to my paint() method but this is very inefficient as I'm having repaint() called by a thread 15 times a second. I tried to put the update methods in the JPanels update() but that doesn't work, in fact update isn't called at all. What does update do ?

Let me take another crack at it...
1) Grab the 9.2.0.8 patchset for the Oracle database (i.e. patch 4547809 on Metalink assuming you're using 32-bit Windows). Install this to upgrade your Oracle client to 9.2.0.8. Installation instructions are in the README.
2) Grab the 9.2.0.8 Oracle ODBC driver, which you already appear to have, and follow the installation instructions in the README you're looking at.

BIOS update won't start on Satellite L40-14F

My laptop's been acting wonky so I downloaded the latest BIOS update, but when I opened it a little black window popped up for a brief second and then nothing happened.
I tried it multiple times, it did the same thing. I'm using Windows XP with SP3. I'd appreciate any help :(

BIOS Update for Tecra A3: Is it Really Needed?

I frequently see a new bios update file from the download site. My Tecra A3 is 2 months old and have no problems so far. Is it really necessary to update the BIOS?
One more thing is that there is no mention about what the latest BIOS update will do to the laptop.

If your unit runs properly and if there are no problems, in my opinion, the BIOS update is not necessary to do.
I use Satellite P20 about two years and I didnt make BIOS update till now. I agree with you that without any concrete description it is not easy to make decision about BIOS update.

Portege Z810 and BIOS update 1.80

What does the BIOS update for Portege Z830 (PT224 / PT225 / PT22L), version 1.80 do?
The description just says +"This BIOS Update adds increased functionality to your system."+, and I haven't been able to find anything more on Toshiba's website. The update was released 2013-05-24.

I presume European Portege Z810 must be similar to US Z830/Z835 (PT224x/PT225x) so Ive checked US support page for BIOS update and here is info about BIOS updates:
