I'm confused about iTunes Plus

I just upgraded a song but i checked back a few hours later to see that the song i just upgraded was available for an upgrade that i already purchased.
What sense does that make?

  • Confusion on iTunes Plus Files and Computer Authorization

I wonder if someone could help me alleviate some confusion surrounding iTunes plus files and computer authorizations.  I personally also have iTunes match on my account.
Reading online it appears that all iTunes Plus files do not not have DRM. I have this setup on my main iMac in my house. Now, I am copying music to my wife's laptop via home sharing. She is not using iTunes match because she has her own iTunes account. The home sharing is using her iTunes account. What is confusing me is that her laptop asking me to authorize the computer for playback of the audio files under my iTunes account. Why is this occuring if there is no DRM on the files?
I understand that I need to authorize machines for my iTunes match account, but these all should theoretically be DRM files that I am dragging and dropping via home sharing to her machine. Can anyone clarify what is going on in this situation?

Go to Store -> View Account. Log in to your account and click Purchase History. Then click Report a Problem. Then choose your upgrade purchase and explain your situation.

  • Why is everyone so hyped about iTunes plus?

I was wondering why you guy's are so eager to convert your entire library to iTunes plus. Because all it does to your songs is take away the limit on how many times you can burn a certain song on to a cd. When you can just take one of those cd's you've burnt that song to and reimport it to window's media player and then you can have an unlimited about of burns to a cd. This guy I know is a DJ and he buy's his songs off of walmart.com and they have one of those limit things as well to where when you exceed 5 burns of that song after that 5th burn the song will sound bad and static like. So all I did was take one of the cd's he already had it on before he exceeded the 5th burn and imported to my computer using WMP and when I burned the song onto a cd it worked just fine.

"Now you can download music and videos from EMI that are free of DRM rules and restrictions. With iTunes Plus, you can burn the music you download from iTunes to as many CDs as you need, transfer it to as many computers (Mac or PC) as you want, or sync it to as many devices as you like. And because it's encoded in 256 kbps AAC, your iTunes Plus music is virtually indistinguishable from the original recording. Hear it for yourself — you can preview all iTunes Plus songs before purchasing.
iTunes Plus music is available now for many EMI artists, such as Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Norah Jones, Coldplay, and many more. DRM-free EMI music videos are still $1.99 and music tracks are $1.29.
Even better yet, you can also upgrade existing EMI songs in your iTunes collection for just $.30 per song.

  • Very Confused about iTunes-purchsed Music Videos in iTunes and on iPod

I've searched and searched but can't seem to find previous discussions that address my questions about iTunes-purchased music videos.
I would call myself an experienced iTunes and iPod user. I have no problems working with music, movies, TV shows...
Here are my music video comments and questions:
Why don't I have a Music Video playlist on iTunes but there is one on my iPod.
How can I create a music video playlist?
Why does my iPod Classic show multiple copies of the same music video in the music video playlist and in the general music list?
That seems like a good start. Any and all comments, suggestions, etc...GREATLY appreciated.

*How can I create a music video playlist?*
In iTunes go to File>New Smart Playlist. Match the rule "Video Kind">"Is">"Music Video"
    Check the box "Live Updating"

  • Confusion about ITunes

I am really confused. I did an update today of my Itunes and now I can't open it because it says that you need Mac OSX 10.4.7. or higher. How can I open itunes? HELP!

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
That's odd, the installer should detect which version of Mac OS X you're using right now before it installs. Which version of Mac OS X do you have? (You can check under "About This Mac" in the Apple menu.) If you don't have a version higher than 10.4.7, you can update to 10.4.10 for free here:
    Mac OS X 10.4.10 v.1.1 update

  • Confused about iTunes and home sharing

My family of 4 has been using iTunes for a number of years with our iPhones (4 iPhones) but this home sharing has me confused and maybe I have been doing things wrong. Right now we have four different PCs, iTunes is installed on each computer. Each computer has it's own library. Each iPhone is synced with a different PC with its own library. Each of us have our own iTunes account with a different email address (so 4 different accounts), the two kids have their own credit card associated with their own accounts (I do not want to pay for their purchases), my wife and I have the same credit card with our two different accounts.
So when I try to set up home sharing it wants me to put my wife's account into the home sharing on my machine and her machine so does that mean you can only share across one account? So she could not see items on my machine but I could access items on her machine? Does that mean the kids cannot share their purchases with both of us via home sharing? Perhaps my wife and I should start sharing the same iTunes account since the money comes from the same credit card.
In the future I may purchase a laptop in addition to my desktop. So I would install iTunes on it and it would start with a different library than my desktop (although I believe I could copy the desktop library to the laptop initially) Does the laptop need a different iTunes account or could it keep the same one that I have on my desktop? How do I easy keep the libraries in sync and can I sync my iPhone with either my desktop or laptop and not get the iPhone or me confused.
    Please help thanks

The iTunes/AppleTV/iOS comms system does seem to get easily confused at times even when it's worked peefectly for months.
I've never felt these services which detect each other automatically are particularly good at re-establishing lost connections without restarting one or several components and as you suggest may be linked to IP addresses changing and devices still looking for each other on old IP addresses which have changes.
Try restarting the Time Capsule - I had issues out of the blue last year, iTunes restart helped temporarily but the fix was a router power down and reboot (it had been on for months).
Recently since 5.3, one of my AppleTV 3's has been very flaky with wifi - drops Home Sharing while loading a film then instantly finds it again once the film has stopped - wifi strength listed as full strength - might be interference but ethernet has fixed it for now.

  • Total confusion about iTunes.

I am trying to transfer music from my PC to my iPad. I do not see the iTunes app on my iPad, only iTunes Store. Yet when I try to download iTunes to my iPad it seems to respond as if I already have it. When I connect my iPad to the laptop it says I need the latest version of iTunes. When I try to download iTunes it responds as if I already have it. Rinse and repeat.
What is going on? And if I have iTunes on my iPad already, why can't I see it anywhere?

No, I don't have that icon. Just the iTunes Store one. By the way, it's an iPad mini, if that makes a difference.
I am trying to get iTunes on my iPad so I can transfer my existing iTunes music (which is on a Windows laptop) to it. If I just connect my iPad to the laptop (in the hope that iTunes already exists on the iPad even though I can't find it) I get an error message that says I need the latest version of iTunes (11.1 or something). If I then try to download iTunes in order to make sure I have the latest version nothing happens and it says on the screen that iTunes comes with the iPad already.
So the problem is threefold, I guess. One, that I can't find iTunes on my iPad. Two, that I am being asked to download the latest version before I can sync. Three, that I can't download the latest version because the app seems to respond as though I already have it.But like I said in the question title... I'm basically confused. :-)

  • ITunes Plus Quality

I am confused about iTunes Plus. I read on the Apple site that the quality is higher, but here in the forums someone said the quality is no different from regular iTunes, just larger file sizes. I am also confused about what iTunes Plus really is. Is it a new iTunes version (program) or just a service? The reason I ask is because I spent about 3-4 weeks slowly importing my CD collection into iTunes on my new Macbook. That is close to 300 CDs. I am afraid that I am "stuck" with lower quality imports than if I had upgraded my software to iTunes Plus first. Am I even close to understanding what iTunes Plus is?

Yes, you're right. The 256 kbps iTunes Plus files is better audio quality. It's still not as good as what is on a retail audio CD (1.400 kbps), but better than the original DRM protected 128 kbps files.~
AND, the most important thing - iTunes Plus is free from all DRM protection.
I've heard rumors that ALL 10.000.000 songs available in iTunes store will be DRM free somewhere around April or May 2009. Maybe someone else here can confirm?.

  • Itunes plus question - don't know where to turn

    Hi,
I'm really confused on Itunes Plus and what I did with it.
I accepted the option and upgraded everything I had to the Itunes Plus.
Now, in my purchased area are all the songs I upgraded. Do I, physically, have to now move them into all the various folders the songs were already in before Itunes Plus or did that upgrade do it automatically? Can I delete those songs from the purchased area safely without moving them and copying them to my other subcategories on my Ipod?
I'm really lost when it comes to using this forum or getting tech support. I'm a geezer who can work an Ipod and buy/load music. Things like this change to Itunes Plus, confuse me.
I like keeping an empty purchased folder but I don't want to erase these upgrade purchases until I'm sure that they were upgraded on the areas where I already had them on my Ipod.
Also, one more question, does using Itunes Plus mean I can play these songs on another mp3 players besides an Ipod?
Would you please be kind enough to write me directly with your answers?
    Thanks,

It is probably not a good idea to post your e-mail on a public forum.
The purchased is just a list of purchased music. There is no reason to delete it from there or even look in there.
All of the songs should be on your library with all of your other music. I don't know if they are in whatever playlists that you put them in. You can look and see.

  • Uprgrading to iTunes Plus

I have just read up about iTunes plus and have decided to upgrade the one album that i have purchased online. However, when i go to upgrade it tells me that i also must upgrade a music video that i downloaded on a previous pc that crashed and thus i no longer have that video. My question is, do i seriously have to pay to upgrade a video that i no longer have access to because i cannot re-download it from the iTunes store for free.

Thanks for the help, i have no problem updating the video as long as i get to watch it after i am done. I was just worried i would be updating a video that i would never get to watch, and even though its only $.60 its the principle. Thanks again for the info.

  • How do i purchase iTunes Plus songs?

I have no interest in upgrading previous songs to iTunes+ but any new songs i purchase I would like to purchase at the higher 256 kbps. I don't see anything about iTunes plus anywhere in iTunes

Just to set expectations properly, the majority of tracks in the iTunes Store are in iTunes Plus format now, but you may still find some in the old, copy-protected format. iTunes Plus tracks will have a "+" icon next to the price. Apple has said that they expect to have the rest in iTunes Plus format this month, though it will depend on the record companies.

  • ITunes Plus - 15 selections only?

I just learned about iTunes plus and even though the FAQs tell me I can update my entire library at once (500+ songs), the "BUY" button indicates $4.50 for 15 songs and lists the ones in the details area that would be updated.
I can't seem to get to a place where I can update the ENTIRE library ... ???
    Any help is appreciated.

I know I can't trust them in this regard.
I know for a fact that certain songs ARE available in iTunes plus because I found them available after I initially upgraded to iTunes plus and converted what I could.
I had the regular versions of the same songs from iTunes.
Apple did not tell me about the fact the iTunes plus version was newly available.
Worse, on one album, I had downloaded 2 tracks and it wouldn't let me 'complete my album' because the 'album was no available in the US'. The album WAS available in the US as an iTunes plus album! Album 'Fur and Gold'; Artist 'Bat for lashes' if you want the details.
    To summarize:
    1. iTunes plus does NOT notify you when new albums are available thet you can upgrade.
    2. ITunes has not answered why this is the case ...despite giving them the details!
After the initial upgrade, on the day it was made available, where 5% of my songs were updated, I have only been notified once that 4 songs were available to upgrade. Given that I have several thousand this is itself is highly suspicious. Coupled to the fact I know that I'm not being notified of all available iTunes plus content that could be upgraded, iTunes plus has verified issues in this area.
I get very frustraded checking for new content and being told I'm up to date!!!

  • I am confused about something.  How do I read a book on my MacBook Pro?  I can't find the iBook app anywhere, which is what I use on my iPad.  The book I want to read is in my iTunes but I can't click on it.  My iBook library does not show up in iTunes.

I am confused about something.  How do I read a book on my MacBook Pro?  I can't find the iBook app anywhere, which is what I use on my iPad.  The book I want to read is in my iTunes but I can't click on it.  Some of my iBooks show up in my iTunes but they are "grayed" out.  The only books that respond in iTunes are audiobooks and that's not what I'm looking for.  Is this a stupid question?

Nevermind - I answered my own question, which is I CAN"T READ ANY BOOKS I purchased in iBooks on my MacBook Pro.  If I want to read on my mac I have to use Kindle or Nook.  Which means any book I've already purchased through iBooks has to be read on my iPad.  Kind of a drag because there are times when it's more convenient for me to read while I'm sitting with my Mac.

  • I am so confused about iCloud.  My husband says he never set it up but all is information is on both his iPad and iPhone.  How can that be and do I have to have iTunes Match?

I am so confused about iCloud.  My husband says he never set it up but all is information is on both his iPad and iPhone.  How can that be and do I have to have iTunes Match?

"All his information" may or may not include things customarily stored in iCloud.  Perhaps all the information is on both devices because they were both recently synced using the same iTunes sync.
Do you have to have iTunes Match?  No.  Many folks do not have iTunes Match.  The music purchased from iTunes is always available to the purchaser.  Other music is stored in iTunes on the person's computer.

  • I'm confused about 'downloading' options via iTunes

When updating via iTunes, you get two options: (1) Download & Install NOW or (2) Download only [to install later]. I chose the 2nd option, as I wasn't quite ready to update my iPod touch to iOS 5. The download went surprisingly quick... took only 5 minutes. I thought it was strange, considering that people were Tweeting left and right that it was going to take 5-7 hours for their downloads to complete. When I finally went to update my iPod several hours later, instead of the update being there and ready to install... iTunes connected to the Apple Servers and started downloading the entire iOS 5 from the BEGINNING! Now, I'm also getting the estimated 7 hours to complete mantra. What gives? What the h*** is the purpose of giving me an option to download and install at a later time, if that's now what actually takes place? What am I confused about? Can anyone provide some insight? I'm highly upset right now.
