I'm confused about saving projects...

Last summer I created a project and burned it on a DVD. I later removed the pictures from iPhoto, but am still able to view the project when I click on it in iDVD.
Thinking that iDVD 5 must work without having the pictures on iPhoto (as opposed to iDVD 4, which I knew required the pictures), I removed the pictures from iPhoto that I had used on my lastest project. I just discovered that apparently some of them are still needed. I'm so confused. A broken chain or a black space show for some of the pictures on the theme page, but I am able to view the slideshows successfully, despite the fact the pictures have been removed from iPhoto.
Can anyone explain what is going on? I can't remember how I saved the project last spring that would enable me to view it without having the pictures on iPhoto. Would archiving have achieved this?

OK, so if your current Apple ID using your AOL Username (like johndoe), then you need to log onto Manage your Apple ID and EDIT that AOL Username to a valid email address: Apple - My Apple ID
If you have an AOL email address (like [email protected]), and you are not using that as another Apple ID, you can change the AOL Username Apple ID to that. Otherwise, you can change it to any valid email address (which you will have to verify when you change to it).
Hope that clears it up. Post back if it doesn't!

  • CS5 confusion about saving and previews

I'm adjusting to the recent upgrade to CS5 but have reached a hiccup. I'm on a Mac Pro (2010) with OS 10.6.4. Previously, when I've saved a file (whether it was a jpg, tiff, eps, png., psd...), a preview was created. If I double-clicked on it to open it, even if Photoshop wasn't opened, the document would open up in the native Photoshop software. Now, after saving a tif, jpg. or eps., upon double-clicking, the document opens up in the generic Macintoch preview window and will not initiate the Photoshop software. I checked my preferences for document handling and the "Always Save" in: Icon and Windows Thumbnail are checked. There is no longer a save in Macintosh Thumbnail, as in previous software versions. I hope this explains my full dilemma and that a member will see the discrepancy to help me out. Is there something I need to change that I can't recognize?
    Thanks,
    Al

I'm a bit confused by your explanation, is the problem that when you save the file it doesn't have a thumbnail? If so, are you running Photoshop 12.0.1? There was a fix on the 12.0.1 update to fix this.
If the problem is that when you double click on a file it doesn't open in Photoshop, then you just need to change a preference in Finder. Select the file you want (say, a .tif) and go to File>Get Info (or Command+I). On the "Open With:" option, choose Photoshop CS5 from the drop down menu. After that, click on the "Change all" button below it. You'll need to do that to all the extensions you want (.jpg, etc)
    Hope this helps!

  • Confused about my project settings - Can someone advise?

I have some clips of my child when she was very little (i've supplied a sample at the bottom). I want to make a project with them in Premiere Elements 10.
I've tried using Premiere Elements' auto project settings advisor (i.e placed the 1st clip of the new project onto the timeline so it can advise if the project settings are correct or not) but no matter what intial project settings i use Premiere Elements doesnt suggest auto corrected settings. So, I've used 3 different media analisis programs to tell me what properties my video clips have and they all say different things:
    1) Media info says: AVI (Mjpeg) 720x480 (3:2) 30 fps NTSC, interlaced.
    2) MovieScanner says: AVI (Mjpeg) 720x480 (4:3), 480p (progressive).
    3) MediaTab says: AVI (Mjpeg) 720x480 (3:2) 30fps, NTSC progressive.
So, i think i can safely say the clips are AVI (motion Jpeg), but are they interlaced or progressive (it's obviouisly important for me to get this right when choosing the project settings)? I have no idea what the pixel aspect ratio and all that would be as that's getting too advanced for me.
Can Mjpeg even be interlaced? Surely if it's lots of Jpegs put together to make a moving image then they must be progressive, or can the Jpegs themselves be interlaced?
Here is a very small sample clip if somebody wants to download & have a look for me:

Any tips of how someone would go about finding out these settings would be great too.
    Many thanks.

Your wisdom here would be greatly appreciated (again).
I've decided to make my new movie project of my childs' 1st year in Premiere Elements 12 (not 10), and with the following settings:
The clips i have are of her 1st year and are from the same camcorder. Unfortunently (as previously described) i changed the settings on the camcorder half way through the year. So i have 2 sets of clips i want to use if possible.
The clips are in date order & comprise of the following 2 sets of properties (info from MediaInfo older version 0.7.47):
    Set 01:
    Format                           : JPEG
    Codec ID                         : MJPG
    Width                            : 640 pixels
    Height                           : 480 pixels
    Display aspect ratio             : 4:3
    Frame rate                       : 30.000 fps
    Color space                      : YUV
    Chroma subsampling               : 4:2:2
    Bit depth                        : 8 bits
    Scan type                        : Progressive
    Compression mode                 : Lossy
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame)               : 1.161
    Stream size                      : 144 MiB (98%)
Set 02 (you have a copy of 1 the clips from this set (2010-12-20 - emily in jersey.avi)):
    Format                           : JPEG
    Codec ID                         : MJPG
    Width                            : 720 pixels
    Height                           : 480 pixels
    Display aspect ratio             : 3:2
    Frame rate                       : 30.000 fps
    Standard                         : NTSC
    Color space                      : YUV
    Chroma subsampling               : 4:2:2
    Bit depth                        : 8 bits
    Scan type                        : Progressive
    Compression mode                 : Lossy
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame)               : 1.158
    Stream size                      : 93.5 MiB
Now, i have a stumbling block to solve and your advice would be hugely valued:
What project settings should i use (i ideally want to use both sets of clips in the same project, sorry, lol)?
I'm very tempted to use the project settings that Premiere Elements 12 suggests. It suggests a project setting for clips from set 1 (but has no idea about the settings for Set 2). There are more clips in Set 1 and so it makes sense to me (at the moment) to choose those.
The suggested settings from Premiere Elements 12 are:
    Sony XD CAM EX 720p
    timebase 30.00 fps
    640 x 480
    square (1.0)
    no fields (progressive scan)
    30fps timecode
The clip information that Premiere Elements 12 displays for the 1st clip in set 1 that i placed on the timeline are:
    Image size 640x480
    Frame rate 30
    Pixel aspect ratio 1.0
Would you agree that these settings look about right, or would you still recomend the settings you previously suggested (for that clip from set 2)?
Also, just to complicate things slightly too, i have 2 further clips that i wouldnt mind fitting in that were captured using a different camera altogether. I was not going to use them because of the incompatible frame rate, but is it possible? It doesnt matter too much if its too much of a pain becausde they are only 2 clips.
    Their settings are:
    Video
    Format                           : JPEG
    Codec ID                         : MJPG
    Duration                         : 3mn 2s
    Bit rate                         : 16.3 Mbps
    Width                            : 1 280 pixels
    Height                           : 720 pixels
    Display aspect ratio             : 16:9
    Frame rate                       : 24.000 fps
    Color space                      : YUV
    Chroma subsampling               : 4:2:0
    Bit depth                        : 8 bits
    Scan type                        : Progressive
    Compression mode                 : Lossy
    Bits/(Pixel*Frame)               : 0.738
    Stream size                      : 354 MiB (92%)
Title                            : FUJIFILM AVI STREAM 0100
I'll probably need further advice when the project is completed about how to ideally export the movie.
    Many many thanks.
ps. This problem will not occur again, since i now shoot all my clips from 1 HD camera and with all the same settings, lol.
Just in case you wish to view the 1st clip from set 1 that i placed on the timeline, i have uoploaded it to skydrive:

  • Confused about Source/Project File Conversion Sizes

Which means.... I drop a 34MB .mov file into iDVD and it shows up in the Project Info window as 430 MB. Is this the way it has to work?
Second (related) question: I now have 26 minutes of files loaded into the iDVD project (showing 1.47 GB in iDVD). I want to add a 1.5 hour movie. Can this be done? The total size of the SOURCE files is far under 4.7 GB capacity of the DVD....

When you add a movie file to iDVD it has to encode that movie file into a form that a standard set top DVD player will be able to interpret. A change in file size can occur. You can reduce the encoded file size by changing the encoder settings http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iDVD/7.0/en/11417.html. Professional Quality may produce a smaller size. The amount of file size change is going to vary by what type of video file is. There is no good way that I am aware of to exactly project what size a file will be upon import to iDVD. There are just too many variables (file type, codec, source camera, etc.)

Given the amount of expansion you've indicated I would say it is not going to fit. But if you add it you can check to see in Project Info like you indicated. You could try reducing the size of the 1.5 hour movie file. Put it into iMovie and then export it out as a smaller file size. This smaller file with then take up less room when it gets added to iDVD (keep in mind that exporting out as a smaller file size from iMovie will also reduce overall image quality).
    Hope that helps.

  • After saving project upon reopening one of my video files and it's corresponding audio is red

After saving project upon reopening one of my video files and it's corresponding audio is red (both are offline).  Attempts at relink result in a warning that the audio will be deleted (which is does when tested).
This project is based on a multicam sequence (2 video files) and using Pro CC (latest Cloud build).
Anyone come across this and/or have a solution?  Thanks in advance.

Appreciate your assistance and guidance Mark.  Yes, I am a newbie on this forum - and fairly new to premiere pro though have used elements since version 4.  I'll answer your leads below.
First off, some bookkeeping & jargon matters:
"you reported the file extension (.mts) but not the codec of the video therein. AVCHD?"
.mts files are Sony AVCHD files.  filmed with Sony NXCAM NXU5 camera.
"re: the version you're on, rather than simply stating "the latest," it helps to report the exact version numbers as shown in the About box. That not only avoids any confusion today but also aids customers who come upon a thread months from now."
    Version is 7.2.0
"you refer to "rendering" to a new format. I know that "render" is the right term in some NLEcosystems, but with Premiere we distinguish between rendering and exporting/encoding. Rendering is reserved for creating preview files for smoother playback within PPRO, whereas exporting/encoding covers writing a sequence out to an output clip."
My bad - I exported/encoded the sequence to a new output clip.
Now back to our regularly scheduled troubleshooting. Three questions:
did you start this project in CC7.1 and then update to 7.2/7.2.1 along the way?
    I started this in 7.2.0
are either of the clips in the multicam sequence spanned?
I don't know what "spanned" refers to
I gather that you created the multicam sequence via the new workflow in the Project panel: select the clips, right-click>CreateMulticamSourceSequence. Am I right?
    Correct
If so, please create a new sequence, set the timeline to insert sequences as individual clips (via the left-most button under the timecode control), add the multicam sequence to the new sequence, and post a screenshot of the timeline.
Now all of a sudden I am able to open my project file(s) as before with no problems.... very curious.
I did this and then could not find my multicam sequence.... so no screen shot... BUT what happened?
thank you for your guidance with this.

  • Can't find offline media for a saved project.  Premiere Element 13.  I'm just a novice

I'm just a novice. I've tried to open an older project and it states that media is off line.  I haven't be able to get it back in order to burn another copy of the project.

Are you trying to open a project file from an older version of Premiere Elements in Premiere Elements 13?
Or, have you done a project in Premiere Elements 13, saved closed it, and now reopen it to find a lot of colorful displays
and "Where is the file _____?" messages?
Major question...forget about the project for the moment...if you go to the computer hard drive, can you spot the files
that the project is telling you are missing?
After any of these project files were saved closed, did you move, delete, or rename files and folders that went into the project?
Let us start here, and then we can decide what next and then go into a lot more details to get your project's source
    media reconnect to the project.
Never hesitate to ask questions and ask for clarification.
    Thank you.

  • Confused about schema..

I'm currently working on a project using VB 2010 Express and Oracle 11g XE. On my Oracle My SQL Developer, I am currently logged on as 'user X' and I created three tables. All of which are just listed on the 'tables' tree. Does it mean that 'user X' is like a schema when compared to MySQL?
I have already integrated my database to my vb project and is working fine ATM. I'm just really confused about schemas in Oracle 11g XE.

  • Elements Organizer 12 Error Saving Project in Adobe Premier Elements 12

When I try to save a slide show project using Elements Organizer 12 in Adboe Premier Elements i get an "Error Saving Project" message and it will not let me save my project.  Can you help?

    Kirk Oswald
    Thanks for the updates.
Just a point of clarification. Did you ever disable the psa.prf file by renaming it to psa.prfOLD? It sounded like you could not. If that was the case, was there any message associated with the program not wanting to follow you directive? Was it a saving matter or did you get a pop up about permissions? If a permissions one, did it give you an option for Continue? If so, did you click on Continue?
    1. Let us try to get the psa.prf deleted or disabled if possible.
    2. Then create a new catalog. See Elements Organizer 12, File Menu/Manage Catalogs/Catalog Manager,
Let us see if we can rule in or out the two above.
Besides the problem with the Save Project in the Slideshow Editor, are you seeing that problem anywhere else? (I know that you said you do not have a problem with the Output option Save As A File Movie WMV.

  • Premiere Elements 8 won't load recently saved project

I'm using Adobe Premiere Elements 8 to create a highlight video.  I made two videos last year and didn't have this problem but this video is slightly longer.  About twenty minutes total consisting of approximately 100 video clips.  I've added one more group of clips and not when I try to load the saved project I just get a gray blank screen.  The load message finishes but nothing appears.  The drop down menus are mostly still grayed out.  No good selections except to press load project again.  This causes a system error that shuts down the application.  Any tips or tricks are appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Dave Flick

Bill, here is the good news.
I updated the Quick Time like you suggested but no help.  I updated the video driver but no help.  I disabled the hardware acceleration but no help.  During this time I realized the problem started after I upgraded McAfee.  I remembered the new McAfee Real Time scanning effected my Outlook software.  So I disabled the McAfee Real Time scanning and then Premiere Elements 8 would successfully load my saved project.  What a relief.  I went back and Turned On the McAfee Real Time scanning but changed the setting to only scan programs and documents, not all files as previously set.  I'm back in business and really appreciate your help.  Thanks a million.

  • PE9 get confused about displaying images

Been using PE9 for a few weeks and within the past couple of days it seems to get confused about which image should be displayed within the timeline. Have a medium size project with 30-40 jpg's in it and when shown in the timeline (or in the monitor window), PE9 replaces the image associated with a particular file with an image from another file. In the Project list you can get Properties and the path\file name shows up perfectly but PE9 uses the image from another file. Tried closing the project, and PE9 - no help. Tried re-booting Windows 7 (64 bit) - nop help. This seems to get worse as time goes on and I have not been able to find a solution.

  • AE CC - saving projects takes much longer than in CS6

I've noticed that After Effects CC takes much longer to save my current project than previously (about 2-3 minutes). I'm used to saving quite often so this is slowing down my workflow.
The project was imported from AE CS6. I've tried starting a new project and importing the previous one manually (instead of a conversion). Same lag.
All unused footage has been taken out and the footage has been consolidated.
The AE CS6 project file and AE CC file are about 15mb so CC is not any bigger.
There are about 50 files in Arri Raw 3K, the rest is in DPX and ProRes 1080p.
I'm working from a Macbook Pro Retina 16GB Ram and all media and cache are on an external Lacie Big Disk thunderbolt Raid SSD.
My impression is that AE CC is indexing all the files before saving so it's going through all the RAW sequenced files. This could slow down the saving process quite a lot.
Is anyone experiencing the same lag time while saving projects?

I'm having the same issue on my PC, saving is taking much longer and is also happening every time I RAM preview. Very strange, and in fact now its having trouble accessing the save location, a local hard drive. any answers for this isse?

  • PSE 10 Error Saving Project

I have been getting an error message: "Error Saving Project"  when I try to save my PSE 10 slide show.  I am unable to save any changes.  I have closed out the project and opened it again and received the same error message.  Any help would be appreciated.

Hi, I am also having this same problem.
I've been making changes to this particular slideshow for weeks.  Today I did about 2 hours of work and now I can't save the project.  Error message is "Error Saving Project".  I've also tried saving to new a new file name with the same results.
I didn't add or delete any slides today.  I only added zoom/pan to several dozen slides.  There are about 70 slides overall.
I have not exited the program for fear that I will lose all my work.
Does anyone have something to try?

  • Confusion about disc setup.

    Hi all
I've read lots and lots about how best to set up discs for Premiere Pro but I'm sitll confused about my own particular setup and was wondering if some nice person here could advise me on how I should proceed.
I have just built a new PC for video and picture editing which consists of a 6 core Intel i7, Nvidia 680, 32GB Memory (Windows 7 Pro to utilise it all) and 3 hard drives consiting of 2 SSD's and 1 mechanical, all conected via 6Gbps SATA.
I have the hard drives arranged as 128 GB SSD for system and programs, 1 TB larger mechanical for footage and 128GB SSD for cache.
So in Premiere Pro I have Edit>Preferences>Media  as follows:
Media cache files pointing at the cache SSD
Media cache database pointing at the cache SSD
    In Project>Project Settings>Scrath disc I have:
captured video same as project, that is the mechanical 1 TB footage drive
    captured audio likewise
Video previews set to the cache SSD
    Audio previews likewise
also in the general tab I have video rendering and playback as Mercury engine GPU acceleration
Does that concur with the wisdom of you more experienced users?

It should be fine. Just keep an eye on your preview files to ensure that they don't start to get too large for the SSD.
They probably won't because rendering is required less often but you want to keep en eye on it. It all depends on your workflow and the tye of effects you use.

  • Encore 2.0 hangs when saving project with subtitles

I produced subtitles using Media Subtitler, had to save as SAMI and take into Subtitle Workshop, and save as Encore format .txt. Import into project, they preview fine, when I go to save the project, the saving project dialog box comes up and the program stops responding. 6 or 7 times now.
for kicks, I opened the .txt file in notepad, everything looked okay, I saved as.. utf-8. Upon import into Encore the status bar on the import took a long time but it filled up, then the program stopped responding.
    any ideas??

    Update:
well it apparently wasn't hanging, it just took 18 minutes to save the project! I tested with three manually made subtitles on Friday and it took longer than expected to save the project, so I did it today with the full subtitle file, infreakcredible, nearly 20 minutes to save a project that has no menus, one video track, one audio track (video is about 14 minutes long) and one subtitle track. new Dell PC 3.00 Ghz, 2.99Gz dual core proc and 2.0 Gb of ram ( for the life of me I thought I had told IT I wanted 3 Gb of RAM) opening the project seems to take forever as well... workflow is gonna slow down a heck of a lot
