I'm Confused.... Does iCloud sync all my devices if I do not have Lion installed on my Mac?

Initially I understood that all it required was to be running 10.5 software for iCloud to work. Now I find this........
When will iCloud be up and running?
All iCloud features are available right now if you’re running iOS 5 on your mobile devices and Lion on your Mac. iTunes Match is available for those running iTunes 10.5.1 or later on OS X Lion or Snow Leopard.
Saying iCloud doesn't work unless I upgrade to Lion. I really don't want the Lion upgrade yet. Should I abandon iCloud until I upgrade to Lion?

At it's heart Lion is OS X. Yes it has new features and like any product you may like some and not have a use for others. The IOS desktop look alike on Lion is called Mission Control, while I've played with it I have no need for it either and rarely if ever look at it. However for someone that has used OS X for several years it's not necessary, my guess is it's designed for those that want to transition from a IOS device to a Mac.
The success of any major upgrade is in the preparation. You have done one of the first steps to see your software is up-to-date. You may want to check with the apps you use frequently and see if they have updates too. I use a free tool called AppFresh that survey's all the apps on my computer and lets me know if updates are available. You can download AppFresh from Macupdate.com if you are interested. Next make sure your computer meets Lion System requirements which are:
Mac OS X Lion System Requirements
In order to install Mac OS X 10.7 you will need:
Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
2GB of RAM (I'd recommend 4GB or more)
Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later with the Mac App Store installed
At least 4GB of additional disk space to accommodate the download, but more is obviously recommended
Once your machine has met the hardware and software requirements then you're ready to get Lion installed. As with any update again do a little preparation, I'd recommend using the suggestions in this Update Process post. This all sounds like a lot of work but it makes for a fun Saturday afternoon project if you like to tinker a bit.

• HT5372 Does icloud sync bookmarks between devices?

Hi there,
Previously, when I synced my iphone to my macbook pro using itunes, the bookmarks in safari including those in the bookmark bar, were synced too. Does icloud sync bookmarks in safari between devices? Thanks.

Thanks. That worked. Unfortunately, I guess the way I did it, it synced in the wrong direction so I've lost all the bookmarks I'd added to safari on my laptop since the last time these synced. :-(  That's one aspect of icloud I find scary and frustrating.

• How long does take sync all your devices with photo stream ect....

Devices are not sync with the cloud. How long should it take. Followed the step to make sure that devices are setup correctly.

1000 of your latest photos.
From here >  http://www.apple.com/icloud/features/photo-stream.html
Depending on file sizes of each photo, that might take awhile.

• How can I sync 2 Android devices if I do not have a computer to create a sync profile from?

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab running Android 4.0.4 & a Galaxy Nexus running Android 4.1.1 and no desktop or laptop computer to create a sync profile on. How can I sync my Firefox browsers between these devices?

There isn't an official way to do this.
Here's a hack which could work but I've never tried it and it's difficult to do:
#Borrow a desktop or laptop with Firefox
#Create a new profile
#Set up a sync account
#Write down your username, password and recovery key <- super important. See, Where can I find my Recovery Key?
#Delete that profile you just created on the borrowed computer.
#On one of your Android devices, set up sync and tap the "Advanced Setup" link
#Enter your username, password and recovery key
#Repeat the last two steps on the other Android device.

What happens when I purchase a new iPad? How Will my music, photos and information transfer? Does iCloud hold all of that, if so how do I access it?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
When you set up iCloud on a new device, you will get photos from Photo Stream (you will have to transfer them to the device), your contacts, calendars, notes, reminders and your iCloud mail address. All of this will be done automatically by iCloud when you log in iCloud on your device.
To transfer your purchased music, see > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519 Also, if you have the music on your computer, just connect the iPad to the computer and sync it with iTunes to get your apps, movies, music...

• How often does iCloud sync ?.

How often does iCloud sync my devices ??

Your Mac's address book, on the front page - was the address you added inside a group that is listed in the general category "iCloud" or "On my mac" ?  If the latter, then that doesn't sync to iCloud.    If iCloud, you might try a small editing change to the entry, like erase last letter of last name, get out of address book, go back in and put the last letter back in.  That should force a sync.

• Does icloud store all of my photos in case my computer crashes

Does icloud store all of my photos in case my computer crashes?

hello,
icloud stores photos that are placed in your photostream(s): 1000 photos for 30 days. i would back up to an external hard drive / dropbox, etc., however. the more redundancy the better when it comes to back ups. if you delete photos in photostream on one device, they are removed from other devices too.
best,
vincent

If you are indeed using 10.5.8 as indicated in your signature you will first need to upgrade to Snow Leopard; this is available in the Online Apple Store. You will then be able to uprade to Lion - again available in the Online Store where you will get a code to enable download from the App Store in Applications. This will enable you to use iCloud and run the latest iTunes.

• Does icloud store all my Aperture photos forever?

Does icloud store all my Aperture photos forever?  Or only the last 1000 for 30 days?

If you mean photo stream photos, up to 1000 photos are saved for up to 30 days in iCloud, but a rolling collection of up to 1000 photos are saved on your computer until deleted.  And if you check Automatic Import in Aperture>Preferences>Photo Stream, they will be not be deleted from your Aperture library (see http://documentation.apple.com/en/aperture/usermanual/index.html#chapter=14%26se ction=2%26tasks=true).

No.

Do Not rely on Only One Backup System for your Precious Photos....
IMO you should have at least 2 or 3...
One on your Computer, another on an External Hard Drive ... and a third on a Flash Drive...

• Will iCloud sync all email accounts connected to the mail application?

Will iCloud sync all email accounts connected to the mail application?

The questions on mail and MobileMe are ones that I have, too. But another question/issue that I have is the inability for my iPhone to separate calendars for me. I have 2 work calendars and one personal calendar. Plus I have a family calendar. I would really like to be able to look at my calendars on the iPhone and see what I have for personal, family and business. I was able to do this with my old Blackberry.
When I looked at the video for MobileMe, it seemed to accomplish this on the computer (mac or pc) but I don't remember seeing the iPhone give good distinction between different calendars (i.e. syncing different calendars or separating them by colors).
Any thoughts?

• I have a Macbook, an iPad 2, and an iPhone 4. I also have iCloud on all three devices. For some reason I can not get new information from my contacts folder to transfer to the iPad or the iPhone. Never been a problem before.

POP: yahoo, aol, comcast/time warnder/road runner
Imap: google, hotmail, and more including icloud.
If you want to use multiple devices - move to imap, I would even say "exchange", but Google does not support free exchange anymore, since January of that year. So Ironically  Icloud or Hotmail would be my choices right now.
To find out more about what happens to you, search on Google "difference between pop and imap"

• Is it possible to sync all the email in a folder, not just the last few months worth?

Is it possible to sync all the email in a folder, not just the last few months worth?

Hi Mengelkemier,
I think you're posting in the wrong forum.  This forum is intended to be used to discuss virtualizing Exchange Server on the the vSphere platform.  The question you're asking seems to be a mobile device specific question.
You would probably get better visibility posting on a forum dedicated to your particular device.  And for what it's worth, some devices will let you sync all of your email and others will only let you sync a certain amount.  It's dependent on the device you're using.
Good luck in finding your answer.
Matt

I have successfully sync'd my macbook and new ipad via itunes, but how do I sync the calendar, please ? I do not have icloud yet.

You can select the calendar to sync in the Info Tab in the iTunes window on the right, when your iPad is connected to the Mac , while iTunes is running and after you select the iPad on the left side under the devices heading.
