I'm experiencing problems to share files

Hi all
I've reformat my desktop following tones of bugs.
Before everything with the router was working fine
the desktop is the main pc connected to the router
I can access the net the laptop is wireless and it's
working as well everything is protected the problem that I'm experiencing
now I can't share files I get a "Compatible Wireless adapter not detected"
I went into Connection Properties and clear MWL Filter then re-select it
it's still not working, I want to WiFi scan
How do I do that otherwise does that mean that I will need a new
router this is the second time that I'm changing that wrt54g
Thanks
dobe

It did not fix the problem but I noticed something while
writing down the IP address.  the desktop which is the
one connected directly to the router and the one that should
be controlling the network finishes in 101 and the laptop finishes
in 100 I think that it should be the other way around
wouldn't you think so?
when I reconfigure the router everything is fine until
one point when the pc or laptop add the word _SafeAH3 at
the end something I never did just renamed my SSID but never
ad the word _SafeAH3 at the end I don't know if this has an
impact also I notice that the laptop generates a key not
the pc if that's my problem how can turn this around?
Thanks

Has anyone experienced problems with downloading Nikon D800 files to the iPad3 using the camer connector kit?  I have tried .RAW and JPEG (of various sizes) on both SD and CF cards, but the iPad doesn't recognise the files.
I have seen various forums discussing Lightroom and PSE updates that are required to process .NEF files but I can't find anything on the iPad/camera connector issue.
I dont have any problem if I put the SD card straight into the SD slot in my iMac and Aperture will process the files fine, but I would really like to be able to download and view files on the move on the iPad.
    Any advice appreciated?
PS - saw something that suggested the iPad had a maximum file size of 16mb for photos, not sure if this is correct, but I have tried smaller JPEG files and they still aren't recognised.

If your camera supports both PTP and Mass Storage Device modes, it may be necessary to use both modes to import all media content.
If some files do not import as expected using one mode, try switching to the other mode and importing again.
Note: Some cameras may refer to PTP as Pictbridge or PTP/Pictbridge.

    hi,
somewhere on the windows machineshould be something like "network setup wizard". exactly where it is and what it is called i cannot remember off the top of my head, windows help is actually slightly useful here, it should have a link to it.
all the options checked on the mac are only what services the mac is offering to other machines, they have nothing to do with the services it can access (mostly...).
oh yeah, to actually connect to the pc after you have turned its sharing on, use the finder, or, when it does not show the pc (this happens on and off, possibly a refresh problem apple...) choose go --> connect to server and enter smb://<pc's name or ip>
to find the ip, the easiest way i think is
    start --> run --> cmd ->> ipconfig

Since I use Mac os x mountain lion it is no more possible to share files with my pc windows 7. Does somebody know how to solve this problem? I have been answered by an Apple technician that with the new Mountain Lion the problem was with Windows. I am not convinced.

I have renamed my pc and everything is ok with the file sharing SMB. Both my iMac and my pc can share files very easily.

  • Networking 2 computers to share files problem. won't recognize login/pass

    hey
i really need help with this.
i now have 2 computers, a powermac G5 and a powerbook G4 connecting to each other with an ethernet cable so i can share files. for some reason when i try to connect as a user instead of guest it won't recognize my login/or password. it was working briefly before.
the only thing i did different was go into my account settings in both computer's preferences and changed the user name and password so they would be the same. they were the same before other than a capital letter but that sometimes affects things so i wanted to make them the exact same. now no matter what i try i cannot login to the network other than as a guest. and i want to be able to access my whole other computer.
    this is what it says:
'Unknown user, incorrect password, or login is disabled. Please retype the name and password or contact the server's administrator.'
appletalk is on in the ethernet tab.
    file sharing is on.
    i've repaired disk permissions.
any help on this asap would be great. thanks

    See this.
How to use an iPod with more than one computer.
You say the iPod is already set to manual transfer. If so, files cannot be automatically be erased from the iPod when connecting to a different computer that does not contain the same files.
Manual transfer is how you have control of the iPod when using it on more than one computer. Files on the iPod are added and deleted manually by the user and not automatically by the computer and iTunes.

  • How to monitor DFS login prompt problem? (share corruption)

Twice we have experienced problems with our DFS shares, both times we discovered that there was one server with a share problem. If we tried to open a share from that server we got a logon prompt. The fastest fix was to rename the DFS folder and the new
    one was replicated in minutes.
There was about a year between the first and the second time we had this problem.
The problem is that our Citrix environment is built on DFS shares.  Both times when we got this DFS problem we couldn’t find the cause straight away, it took some hours to discover it was DFS. This problem got a big impact on our production environment.
Lately I create a lot of Powershell scripts that checks the status of something. If we got a problem with something (like Exchange) then I search for the symptoms of how I can recognize it with Powershell. The output of those scripts is returned to the monitoring
    tool Nagios.
I want to create a check for this DFS problem, so when it occurs we get an alarm from Nagios and we can fix it right away with less impact for our users. The problem is that I don’t have a lot of information about recognizing the symptoms of this DFS problem.
The only thing I know that there is a login prompt of accessing the share on per server.
The second problem is that I can’t test it, because I can’t and don’t to force a corruption on the DFS share.
I found someone that created a check based on writing a file to a DFS share and checked that date stamp of the file. For now it is my best option.
I’m wondering if there is someone that got a better idea or if somebody does know more symptoms about recognising this specific DFS problem. (Events (we couldn’t find them), errors in a log file)

    Hi,
Please try to access the DFS file shares not the dfs path but the UNC path the DFS members to check if you still get a logon prompt.
You could also refer to the article below to see if it helps:
You cannot access a DFS share by using a valid user account in Windows Server 2008 R2, in Windows 7, in Windows Vista or in Windows Server 2008

  • Best way to share files across computers

I just installed the newest OS X MTLION server. What's the best protocall to share files?

"Didn't work" isn't a problem statement folks here can particularly help with, beyond offering our sympathies.  What is helpful toward getting you to your goals are the particular problems you're facing are your general requirements, and specific details of commands tried and error messages and diagnostics you've encountered.  For better or worse, sharing files is something that both OS X and OS X Server do well, and via a variety of protocols.
As an example of the sorts of details that can be useful here, the particular volume of data involved is helpful as "large" means something very different to different folks.  The amount of storage and how much it's churning — how often those photos are being added or searched, and how large the photos are, and how many photos are likely to be present in the environment over the years — determines the size of the RAID array(s) necessary initially and over time, as well as helping determine the likely network bandwidth necessary to shuffle the data around should you want or need cloud (off-site) storage for the data, etc.
Based on what you've provided, the "antique" or "classic" solution would be a manually-maintained file server, probably running AFP given you have OS X systems, and either connected by 802.11n (preferably) 5 GHz or (better) gigabit Ethernet.   Larger volumes of data generally mean faster links are needed.  This approach is "antique" or "classic" in that you deal with individual files and directories and related baggage.  Manually.
In a somewhat more modern approach, you'd have a photo storage database package — a content management system for photos — that deals with uploading and indexing and peeking at Exif and related data — and that deals with backups and related processing automatically.  I don't know if such a package exists, but I'd expect it does.
The customized version of this photo storage  — this is a potentially much larger investment on your part, either to write or to have custom built for you, but resulting in a solution for your particular requirements — might involve acquiring development tools such as the FileMaker Pro package and rolling your own storage and retrieval system.  Basically, building your own custom photography database and data management, and using FileMaker or some other database for backups and related processing.
Better still, a package including billing and related administrivia, etc.  The tedious stuff.
If you're just looking at copying files around for now, then you probably don't have a whole lot of them.  As you do get more photos, then you're going to be spending more time collating and managing the quantities of data and related baggage.  Sooner or later, you'll be looking to automate all of this stuff, and you'll then be looking to move into something that allows you to spend time taking and presumably selling photos, and less time dealing with "files" and "servers"...
As another potential option for learning about some options, see if your Apple Store has some folks that deal with local businesses, and have a chat with them.
Ok, enough of the blue-sky photography-database-management stuff.
As for copying files around — files containing, well, whatever — that works nicely on both OS X and OS X Server, and some details on exactly what happened when it "didn't work" would be the best approach forward.
There's a near-infinite number of reasons why computers can fail to perform the desired task, unfortunately.
Permissions can certainly be a factor in file access and file-storage problems.
FWIW, servers are comparatively more effort to set up, particularly if you're using distributed authentication such as that provided by Open Directory (see Workgroup Manager (WGM) tool) and such.  As for resolving the file access and file sharing problems, some details from the server logs, the file settings and the protection settings tested, etc., will be helpful here in resolving whatever happened.
In general and from experience here in the communities with folks that are experiencing their first server management, you need to get your IP network working, and particularly your local network DNS configured and working.  Weirdness with various services is a common result of network problems and particularly DNS problems.  If (when) the DNS configuration is skipped — as happens far too often — and you later realize it's necessary and start to get DNS working, that tends to get various services, well, confused.  Best to start out with working DNS when you're dealing with a server.  Here's a long-winded write-up on OS X Server DNS services, and which applies to 10.8 server once you click the Advanced settings stuff in the DNS setup in 10.8 Server.app tool.
Oh, and please don't use .local as your DNS domain.  That causes different-weird.
Welcome to the Apple communities, and apologies on the wall of text.

I am experiencing problem (the installation does not start) when I try to install ArchiCAD 17 Educational on my mac. I am using Yosemite. How can I fix it?

You need to contact the developer/manufacturer directly to determine if their product is compatible w/Yosemite.  It is not listed on their system requirement website:
    Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks
Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion
    Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard*
Note: ArchiCAD 17 is the last version of ArchiCAD to support Mac OS X 10.6
Only case insensitive file-system volumes are supported.

  • Problem with shares on Windows 2003R2 server from a Windows 8.1 PC

I'm having problem with shares on Windows 2003R2 server from a Windows 8.1 PC.  It times out when I try to copy a file from my PC to the server and I get an error message saying "There is a problem accessing network drive W:\. Make sure you are
connected to the network and try again."
I have no problem copying files from the server to the PC.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
How about your problem now? Have you test other machine also installed Windows 8.1? Did they have this problem?
To diagnose this problem, firstly, please check Windows 2003R2 firewall settings, also can disable firewall temporarilly for test.
Secondly, try to use Network Monitor to capture network communication package for test.

  • Problem with Gif Files

    Hi
Is there away I can preview my animated gifs in Adobe Bridge CS3? This worked in CS2 but doesn't now I have upgraded.
All my animated gifs show as gif image... is this correct?
Bridge will preview other media files but not the gifs I would like it too.
Any help or advice will be gratefully received.

And I sincerely hope you're not talking about documents across a network. :(
This is the boilerplate text I use in connection to saving to a network (please NOTE the part where it explains that normally, it does work, but that it is impossible to troubleshoot someone else's network remotely, and that's why it's not supported by Adobe):
If you are opening files over a network or saving them to a network server, please
    cease and desist immediately
in the event you are currently experiencing problems with one or more files.
Working across a network is not supported.
    See:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/techdocs/322391.html
    Copy the
CLOSED file from your server to your local hard disk, work on it, save it again to your local hard disk, close it, and copy the closed file back to the server.
Of course, the fact that Adobe does not support working across a network does not necessarily mean it won't work. It should.
Adobe's position is that there are too many variables in a network environment for them to guarantee that everything will work correctly in every network, especially given the fact that if something does
not work properly, it's probably the network's fault, and Adobe has no way of troubleshooting your network.
If you can't work locally, you are on your own, and if something happens, you're on your own. If you must work from a server, make sure your network administrator is a competent professional.
When problems arise, a lot of valuable work can be lost.

  • Best way to share files between computers?

    Hi,
    I have a MBP & a G5 and I am doing video editing with FCP & web-designing with
Dreamweaver on both of the computers. The problem is that I have been using
    the two computers completely separate.
For example, if I create a project on my laptop, I can't go to my desktop and continue it
unless I copy the files to a zip drive (or something similar) and manually transfer the files.
And then I don't know which files are actually up to date.
Is there any simple way that I can have the two computers produce, access & share files easier?
I do have a .mac account but I don't know much about it's capabilities?
I could really use some help and advise here.
    Thanx,
    Todd

    Hi,
I had the exact same question/ problem a couple of days ago. I think in your case, working with large video files, .mac might not be an option.
I would say you either work of an external drive (maybe connected as a shared drive wirelessly) as it was suggested to me, or you use a file sync utility like ChronoSync to keep both machines mirrored.
    Hope this helps.

  • Unable to share files when in a IM convo with multiple people Lync 2013

    Hello,
I'm in the middle of a migration from lync server 2010 to lync server 2013. The users I have migrated over to lync 2013 are not able to send/share attachments when in a convo with multiple people.
However, users can send/share files when IM'ing with individual people.
I've been researching this issue for quite some time but still having a problem pinpointing  the issue.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

    Hi,
Did the issue also happen between users who still in Lync server 2010 pool?
Did the issue happen internal or external?
Please double check if MCU on Lync 2013 FE server works well, when two participants are connected, the session is essentially peer-to-peer. When three or more participants are connected, the Sharing feature depends on the Front End Server Multi Point Control
Unit (MCU) to provide the sharing stream to all parties.

  • Share files from 2 computers connected to same router from remote location

I can remotely (from external IP) share file from one computer connected to my router but I cannot share with other machines on my home network. Same with ARD access. Is there a way to access multiple machines across my router?

The only easy way to do this would be to use something like Back To My Mac with a MobileMe subscription or [LogMeIn|https://www.logmein.com].
The problem with what you're trying to do is that your entire home network only has one IP address to the outside world. How did you get it working in the first place? I'm assuming you've got a wireless router and set up port forwarding on the router to redirect traffic to a specific machine. The problem there is that file sharing uses a specific port (548), and you can only map that port to one machine at a time.
One possibility would be to use different services for different machines. For example, you could share files normally (port 548) on one machine and via FTP (port 21) on another. Another possibility would be to enable screen sharing on the one you can access from outside your home network, then use screen sharing to make that machine log in to the other machines on the network. Of course, neither of these are ideal solutions.
