I'm getting really frustrated and could use some help

Hello there!
I'm  not sure what happened because when I plugged in my ipod today (I have an 8g ipod touch) everything was reset to the basics in itunes. My entire library was delted. Honestly I'm not really that upset by that as I was going to change out all of my music anyways.
My problems are as follows:
I can no longer add more than 1 folder at a time.
          -How can I change it to where I can add multiple folders again?
When I do add a folder it now automatically takes me out of the adding music on your ipod spot (sorry I don't know how else to describe that page) but it takes me out of there and automatically creates a playlist and starts to play the folder I just added.
          -How do I stop it from creating playlists automatically? I absolutely hate playlists. I've never used them and I don't forsee myself useing them anytime           soon.
          -How do I stop it from automatically playing the songs/folders I add?
          -How do I stop it from taking me out of the ipod page and into the playlists page?
My ipod NEVER used to do any of this before so I'm really not sure why all of that changed and why I can't change it back.
My audiobooks tab is gone.
          -How do I bring this back so I can audiobooks again?
I've spent the last couple of hours sifting through manuals, let me tell you 138 pages is a lot to go through, forums and google and a lot of technical jargon and acronyms. All in all, I'm having a heck of a time finding exactly what I need to help me out and I admit I am starting to get really frustrated.
The other day it was so easy, add a couple of folders to the library, select them hit apply and VOILA all was golden. Today, not so much.

I'm still having troubles getting the audio books to appear.
Heres what im selecting.
and then the books tab is still not appearing.
and then as far as adding folders here is what I am doing.
this was how i had it before. it gives me mroe control to choose what i want to add.
that is where i go to add the folder, like i did before.
selecting the folder like normal.
then this box immediatly pops up. not allowing me the option to select and apply any music i may have added.
the music starts playing and it takes me to the playlist page.
but when i click on the ipod icon and go back into this area. the folder is there.
all the steps ive just shown you is how i have ALWAYS done this ever since i got my ipod. Ive never had any of these weird problems utnil today.

    Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
    Pages for the iPad and Pages for a Mac are completely different, so you have to purchase them twice, one for the iPad and another one for the Mac. The only advantage is that, if you buy another iPhone, iPod touch or iPad, you will be able to install Pages for free on all of them.
    As you are running Mac OS X 10.6.8 on the MacBook, you can't purchase Pages from the App Store, so you have to buy iWork '09 on a DVD on Amazon or eBay in order to install it

  • Could use some help on positioning images

    With help here, I'm making my way through ID novice to ID "dangerous". I sorta get layout and sorta get styling and now could use some help with sizing and positioning images.
    The test is a 3-column newspaper that I let ID size when the document was created. All the text frames are linked. I now want to put some images on the pages and have the text wrap. I sorta understand wrapping and anchoring, the question is sizing.
    Am I on the right path to start thinking that images often need to be sized to a column width or two (plus gutter)? If so, do I size images based on the frame size? For example, the columns show as 3.2222in and the gutter as .1667. Does that mean I want to set the image width to 3.2887 or are things just not that accurate? What are the best practices?
    One related question on wrapping: it seems like anchoring the image allows wrapping around only one frame of text but not the other if the image spans two text columns. How do you place and image so that it wraps text in more than one column?
    Also, do people make the image smaller than the frame to put a border in when wrapping text?
    Thanks

    Are you asking about image size as it is saved, or as placed on the page?
    With older RIPS it was common to want to save images at the correct dimensions so when placed at 100% they would have the correct resolution. This was to reduce processing time. Today that is less of an issue and it is not at all unusual to scale images in the InDesign layout. (I'm talking raster here -- vector objects can be scaled almost infinitely.)
    So, what is the correct size? There are a number of rules of thumb, but the basic one is that images should be placed so that the resolution, at the size they will be printed, is twice the value of the linescreen being used. Anything in the range of 1.5 to 2.5 is probably acceptable, and I know people who routinely send images at 1.4 times the linescreen.
    For coated papers and reasonably good reproduction, 150 lpi is not unusual, with 200 lpi for fine art books, so you get the common suggestion that images should be 300 ppi. Newspaper printing is usually accomplished on fairly porous stock at much lower screen frequencies -- 80 to 100 lpi -- so you need considerably less image resolution.
    How do you know what the resolution is at the size you've place the image? Look at the info panel with an image selected. You'll see too numbers, an "actual" ppi and an "effective" ppi. The actual number is simply the resolution recorded with the image at its dimensions when it was saved (and digital cameras often save images 20 inches or so wide at 72 ppi) and is basically irrelevant. The effective ppi is the one that matters. If it's too small, either reduce the size of the image on the page, or be prepared to live with less than stellar reproduction. If it's grossly over the requirement it usually won't hurt except for some increased processing time, but the extra image data won't improve things as it gets discarded by the RIP.
    It's usually OK to downsample an image in Photoshop, though you will sometimes lose fine detail or subtlety in shading, but you'd probably lose the same things through scaling in ID. Upsampling never helps.
    I presume you know that you can place graphical objects in several ways, either into an existing frame, at full size (whatever that happens to be and at the "actual" resolution) by clicking the loaded cursor on an empty spot on the page, or you can click and drag a new frame the size you want. When an image is first placed it will always be "actual size" unless some scaling factor has been applied to the frame in advance, so you may not see the entire image. You then have several fitting options available to either make the frame fit the image or the image fit the frame (and in newspaper work you pretty much only want to fit to or fill the frame proportionally).
    I personally like keeping the images snapped to the column grid, but it's by no means an iron-clad rule. You want to avoid situations, though, where an image impinges on a column to the point that the remaining text is unworkably narrow.
    I don't know why you are using anchored frames for your images (text wrap only affects text in the frame after the anchor point). It's not likely in a newspaper that you would want the pictures to move on the page if you edit the text. You can group the image, caption and story, if you like, so that they all stay together if you need to re-arrange the page or move them to a new location.
    I don't know if I answered your question. Feel free to come back for clarification.

  • I think I've got a memory leak and could use some advice

    We've got ourselves a sick server/application and I'd like to gather a little community advice if I may. I believe the evidence supports a memory leak in my application somewhere and would love to hear a second opinion and/or suggestions.
    The issue has been that used memory (as seen by FusionReactor) will climb up to about 90%+ and then the service will start to queue requests and eventually stop processing them all together. A service restart will bring everything back up again and it could run for 2 days or 2 hours before the issue repeats itself. Due to the inconsistant up time, I can't be sure that it's not some trouble bit of code that runs only occasionally or if it's something that's a core part of the application. My current plan is to review the heap graph on the "sick" server and look for sudden jumps in memory usage then review the IIS logs for requests at those times to try and establish a pattern. If anyone has some better suggestions though, I'm all ears! The following are some facts about this situation that may be usefull.
    The "sick" server:
    - CF 9.0.1.274733 Standard
    - FusionReactor 4.0.9
    - Win2k8 Web R2 (IIS7.5)
    - Dual Xeon 2.8GHz CPUs
    - 4GB RAM
    JVM Config (same on "sick" and "good" servers):
    - Initial and Max heap: 1536
    -server -Xss10m -Dsun.io.useCanonCaches=false -XX:PermSize=192m  -XX:MaxPermSize=256m -XX:+UseParNewGC -Xincgc -Xbatch -Dcoldfusion.rootDir={application.home}/../ -Dcoldfusion.libPath={application.home}/../lib -Dcoldfusion.dotnet.disableautoconversion=true
    What I believe a "healthy" server graph should look like (from "good" server):
    And the "sick" server graph looks like this:

    @AmericanWebDesign, I would concur with BKBK (in his subsequent reply) that a more reasonable explanation for what you’re seeing (in the growth of heap) is something using and holding memory, which is not unusual for the shared variables scopes: session, application, and/or server. And the most common is sessions.
    If that’s enough to get you going, great. But I suspect most people need a little more info. If this matter were easy and straightforward, it could be solved in a tweet, but it’s not, so it can’t.
    Following are some more thoughts, addressing some of your concerns and hopefully pointing you in some new directions to find resolution. (I help people do it all the time, so the good news is that it can be done, and answers are out there for you.)
    Tracking Session Counts
    First, as for the observation we’re making about the potential impact of sessions, you may be inclined to say “but I don’t put that much in the session scope”. The real question to start with, though, is “how many sessions do you have”, especially when memory use is high like that (which may be different than how many you have right now). I’ve helped many people solve such problems when we found they had tens or hundreds of thousands of sessions.  How can you tell?
    a) Well, if you were on CF Enterprise, you could look at the Server Monitor. But since you’re not, you have a couple of choices.
    b) First, any CF shop could use a free tool called ServerStats, from Mark Lynch, which uses the undocumented servicefactory objects in CF to report a count of sessions, overall and per application, within an instance. Get it here: http://www.learnosity.com/techblog/index.cfm/2006/11/9/Hacking-CFMX--pulling-it-all-togeth er-serverStats . You just drop the files (within the zip) into a web-accessible directory and run the one CFM page to get the answer instantly.
    c) Since you mention using FusionReactor 4.0.9, here’s another option: those using FR 4 (or 4.5, a free update for you since you’re on FR 4) can use its available (but separately installed) FusionReactor Extensions for CF, a free plugin (for FR, at http://www.fusion-reactor.com/fr/plugins/frec.cfm). It causes FR to grab that session count (among many other really useful things about CF) to log it every 5 seconds, which can be amazingly helpful. And yes, FREC can grab that info whether one is on CF Standard or Enterprise.
    And let’s say you find you do have tens of thousands of sessions (or more). You may wonder, “how does that happen?“ The most common explanation is spiders and bots hitting your site (from legit or unexpected search engines and others). Some of these visit your site perhaps daily to gather up the content of all the pages of your site, crawling through every page. Each such page hit will create a new session. For more on why and how (and some mitigation), see:
    http://www.carehart.org/blog/client/index.cfm/2006/10/4/bots_and_spiders_and_poor_CF_perfo rmance
    About “high memory”
    All that said, I’d not necessarily conclude so readily that your “bad” memory graph is “bad”. It could just be “different”.
    Indeed, you say you plan to “look for sudden jumps in memory usage“, but if you look at your “bad” graph, it simply builds very slowly. I’d think this supports the notion that BKBK and I are asserting: that this is not some one request that “goes crazy” and uses lots of memory, but instead is the “death by a thousand cuts” as memory use builds slowly.  Even then, I’d not jump at a concern that “memory was high”.
    What really matters, when memory is “high” is whether you (or the JVM) can do a GC (garbage collection) to recover some (or perhaps much) of that “high, used memory”. Because it’s possible that while it “was” in use in the past (as the graph shows), it might no longer be “in use” at the moment .
    Since you have FR, you can use its “System Metrics page” to do a GC, using the trash can in the top left corner of the top right-most memory graph. (Those with the CFSM can do a GC on its “Memory Usage Summary” page, and SeeFusion users can do it on its front page.)
    If you do a GC, and memory drops q lot, then you had memory that “had been” but no longer ”still was” in use, and so the high memory shown was not a problem. And the JVM can sometimes be lazy (because it’s busy) about getting to doing a GC, so this is not that unusual. (That said, I see you have added the Xincgc arg to your JVM. Do you realize that tells the JVM not to do incremental GCs? Do you really want that? I understand that people trade jvm args like baseball cards, trying to solve problems for each other, but I’d argue that’s not the place to start. In fact, rarely do I find myself that any new JVM args are needed to solve most problems.)
    (Speaking of which, why did you set the – xss value? And do you know if you were raising or lowering it form the default?)
    Are you really getting “outofmemory” errors?
    But certainly, if you do hit a problem where (as you say) you find requests hanging, etc., then you will want to get to the bottom of that. And if indeed you are getting “outofmemory” problems, you need to solve those. To confirm if that’s the case, you’ll really want to look at the CF logs (specifically the console or “out” logs). For more on finding those logs, as well as a general discussion of memory issues  (understanding/resolving them), see:
    http://www.carehart.org/blog/client/index.cfm/2010/11/3/when_memory_problems_arent_what_th ey_seem_part_1
    This is the first of a planned series of blog entries (which I’ve not yet finished) on memory issues which you may find additionally helpful.
    But I’ll note that you could have other explanations for “hanging requests” which may not necessarily be related to memory.
    Are you really getting “queued” requests?
    You also say that “the service will start to queue requests and eventually stop processing them all together”. I’m curious: do you really mean “queuing”, in the sense of watching something in CF that tells you that? You can find a count of queued requests, with tools like CFSTAT, jrun metrics, the CF Server Monitor, or again FREC. Are you seeing one of those? Or do you just mean that you find that requests no longer run?
    I address matters related to requests hanging and some ways to address them in another entries:

    Other server differences
    You presented us a discussion of two servers, but you’ve left us in the dark on potential differences between them. First, you showed the specs for the “sick” server, but not the “good” one. Should we assume perhaps you mean that they are identical, like you said the JVM.config is?
    Also, is there any difference in the pattern of traffic (and/or the sites themselves) on the two servers? If they differ, then that could be where the explanation lies. Perhaps the sites on one are more inclined to be visited often by search engine spiders and bots (if they sites are more popular or just have become well known to search engines). There are still other potential differences that could explain things, but these are all enough to hopefully get you started.
    I do hope that this is helpful. I know it’s a lot to take in. Again, if it was easier to understand and explain, there wouldn’t be so much confusion. I do realize that many don’t like to read long emails (let alone write them), which only exacerbates the problem. Since all I do each day is help people resolve such problems (as an independent consultant, more at carehart.org/consulting), I like to share this info when I can (and when I have time to elaborate like this), especially when I think it may help someone facing these (very common) challenges.
    Let us know if it helps or raises more questions. :-)

  • Working on epic slideshow....really could use some help please

    I have combed the manuals, discussion logs etc. but am yet to find a simple answer to my questions. Maybe there are none. My grandparents both passed away in the last month. I am not only archiving my pictures but creating a slideshow using final cut pro 5.1.4. The pictures I have scanned are huge... a total of 180 years of life, hundreds of pictures, all scanned at 600 dpi because some where 2x2. Even then some pictures are 4000 x2800 and 20mb. I have resized them down to about 5mb or so. I have seemed to get rid of flicker and lag associated with such huge file. Still I am having a problem exporting......
    There are so many audio/video settings it hard to know where to go. This will be watched by 50 family members and friends, most with HD widescreen Televsisons. When I watch it on my computer it looks exactly how i want it to. When i burn it to iDVD it starts having lag issues when doing mild pans and zooms....the transitions.. fade in fade out, typically...or cross dissolve look "framey" and low quality. In the days of research I've done I can't seem to find proper settings (yes even the manual) on how to set the codecs or whatever they are....It will primarily be watched on 16:9 widescreen I image....but anything from old 4:3 televisons to laptops too. What settings should I use?...Should I reduce all pics to minimal size? Why do my transitions look so low res...? If anyone has any insight, please help. I don't know the difference in 1080i50 or 1080i 60...I have heard NTSC is not the way to go for a slideshow.....please help. How should I resize, how should I export, what am I doing wrong? It looks great for the most part on my on MacBook Pro 2.5ghz 2g ram 15 inch laptop....why cant i get it to translate on the televison?
    I know parts of this question(s) have been discussed and appreciate anytime in helping me grasp what I am missing. This is so very important to me...also Livetype was a disaster... looked liked graphics from a 1982 sci-fi movie...sigh....I have done this before with success, but not in about 5 years. Technology and HD era have surpassed me although some of my questions ares still basic.
    Thanks in advance,
    Tony
    MacBook Pro 2.5ghz 2g ram Please help with FCP 5 slideshow technical difficulties

    Yes I considered using iMovie or iPhoto because of the size of this project but had little or no control over motion. Despite my obvious lack of knowledge I know my way around FCP to the extent I've needed it.
    Perhaps I have been over thinking/researching everything because this project means so much to me.
    I just wanted to make sure I imported my media correctly (scanned tiffs and music only) and export it with the proper settings so that it looks as professional as possible and nobody has a problem playing it.
    I have had success with several slideshows before, as well as fun DV videos of the kids. Without motion, no problem. With motion, just a few minor bugs (flickering) but was very happy with the end result. The difference then I suppose is that was using all digital pics from (at the time) a 3 megapixel camera. Not huge files, not scanned images. I used NTSC then but read in a forum somewhere that that was a quick way to degrade your production. I feel like I'm close. If it looks like I want it to on my computer I can't be that far off, right?
    I appreciate the info on DVD's needing to be NTSC compatible. Maybe I should just go back to the standard NTSC format. Are all the other audio/video settings simply for uploading to the web and so forth? Is there a NTSC setting that you would recommend that is better for todays standard widescreen television? I do want the final show to be in widescreen.
    Thanks David,
    Tony

  • I could use some help with my html5 and my video

    Hello all.
    I've been reading up and working on my video issue for days.  I feel like I'm very close.  ANY help would be huge.
    I've got two websites.  Both of which have videos which my clients wants to be about to see on his mac, his PC and his iPhone and iPad.  He's a multi-platform guy living in a multi-platform world.
    The first website, has two videos on it.
    http://www.ftworthfoundation.com/index2.html
    It is very close to working... I can view all videos locally on safari and firefox.
    However remotely I cannot see any videos with firefox.
    Remotely- I can see all videos with Safari and IE and 1 video on the homepage with my iPhone.  My first thought on this was that the video which wouldn't play was too large.  I read somewhere that the iPHone will not load anything over 20MB... the .m4v was 33MB so I cut it down to about a 3rd of the size and re uploaded it (at 6.6MB) but it will still not play on my iPhone
    here is my code for the videos.  The video is formatted in .ogg, .mp4, .m4v and .flv... all videos are uploaded to the root directory.
    <div id=Video1>
         <video controls width=448>
            <source src="excel_Construction_Commercial.ogg" type="video/ogg" />
            <source src="excel_Construction_Commercial2.mp4" type="video/mp4" />
                <source src="excel_Construction_Commercial.m4v" type="video/m4v" />
            <embed src="excel_construction_commercial.flv" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="448" height="249" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreeen="true"></embed>
        </video>
        </div>
          <div id="VideoPlayer">
            <video controls width="448">
                <source src="Foundation_Repair.ogg" type="video/ogg" />
    <source src="Foundation_Repair.mp4" type="video/mp4" />
                <source src="Foundation_Repair.m4v" type="video/m4v" />
              <embed src="Foundation_Repair.flv" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width=448 height="249" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreeen="true"></embed>
            </video>
            </div>
    If anyone can help me on this I can probably tackle the 2nd website solo.
    Thanks guys.
    -D

    Hi David.
    Thanks for the reply.  I am definitely moving the right direction.
    I have changed my extensions but the video will still not play remotely.  It does play locally.
    Here is my new code
      <video controls width="448">
                <source src="Remodeling.mp4" type="video/mp4">
                <source src="Remodeling.ogv" width="448" height="298" type='video/ogg; codecs="theora, vorbis"'>
                <source src="Remodeling.m4v" type="video/m4v">
                <embed src="Remodeling.flv" type=application/x-shockwave-flash wIDth="448" HeIGHT=249 alloWScRIPTACCESs="always" aLLOwfUllSCREeN=true></EmbEd>
                </div>
    I'm thinking I have a MIME type issue as I read this article online.
    Here is a link
    http://diveintohtml5.org/video.html
    It's a great website for anyone looking to understand how to create and export video to html5.
    Anyway here is the section of article I'm interested in.
    What’s the proper MIME type? You’ve already seen it; it’s part of the value of the type attribute on a <source> element. But setting thetype attribute in your HTML markup is not sufficient. You also need to ensure that your web server includes the proper MIME type in the Content-Type HTTP header.
    If you’re using the Apache web server or some derivative of Apache, you can use an AddType directive in your site-wide httpd.confor in an .htaccess file in the directory where you store your video files. (If you use some other web server, consult your server’s documentation on how to set the Content-Type HTTP header for specific file types.)
    Can anyone tell me how to change my MIME type? I can see my .htaccess.html file and I tried adding in
    AddType video/ogg .ogv
    AddType video/mp4 .mp4
    AddType video/webm .webm
    But the server will not let me upload the new .htaccess file.  So I cannot change it.
    I'm using GoDaddy and have complete admin rights rights as far as I can tell.
    Again.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

  • Could use some help on PSE6 vs. iPhoto

    I'm not interested in starting a thread of just preferences between PSE6 and iPhoto (or any other utility for that matter). What I am interested in is some feature comparison that can help me decide which (if either) to use to organize my photos.
    Some of my photos are in iPhoto and others are not. I'm in the middle of a cleanup of my Mac and getting the photos organized is part of the journey. I'm a little frustrated looking at iPhoto data files since I get data, the images, thumbs and, in some cases, a folder caller "originals". It seems I have a bit of work to find which file goes with which iPhoto entry.
    My config already has PSE6. I also have CS2 on my PC laptop.
    A friend said he uses Bridge and, in his case, an organizer from Nikon (his camera manuf.). I happen to have a couple small Canon's.
    Any general guidelines for deciding on the best strategies for organizing and should/could PSE6 play a role?
    Thanks

    I read your post on another thread about picking Bridge or iPhoto, but not both. As you mentioned, with iPhoto integrated with other OS X apps it probably makes sense to use if fully on the Mac.
    I started a thread on getting some help in figuring out which files and folders were iPhoto's (I've made quite a mess over the years). IP6 just asked me to do some sort of re-indexing (which I let it do) and now I have empty folders, etc. in the Pictures and iPhoto folder.
    Thanks again for taking the time to post. I'm at such a starting point that ever bit helps.

  • I could use some help please...

    hi, i have the linksys wireless-N broadband router and the wireless usb adapter. my goal here is to simply give another desktop internet connection. i have one computer conencted to the internet via cable modem with the router all hooked up already, this desktop is using winxp if that helps. the other desktop is not connected to any internet and is using winvista with the usb adapter plugged in. now how do i send internet connection from one computer to the other!?! please help me and if you could explain with as much detail as possible step by step on how to get my other desktop internet connection i would greatly appreciate it. thanks!

    First change the Wireless Settings on the Router...
    Open an Internet Explorer browser page.In the address bar type - 192.168.1.1
    Leave username blank & in password use admin in lower case...
    For Wireless Settings, please do the following : -
    Click on the Wireless tab-
    -Here select manual configuratioon...Wireless Network mode should be mixed...

  • Could use some help, SB Li

    Hey community, usually I dont post on forums for help, but I really cant get this. Ive been doin some extensi've troubleshooting, and heres what i got. I have SB Li've! soundcard, re installed clean boot all that stuff with it, the card seems to work fine. My speakers wont play any sound. this problem started AFTER i formatted my computer for some random reason?The big thing i noticed is that i can listen with headphones hooked into my sound card, but not my speakers. My speakers wont play my Ipod when directly hooked into it. The speakers im using are some Boston brand i've never really heard of. its got a left and right speaker, and then a sub woofer. The left speaker plugs into the right speaker, the right speaker plugs into the woofer, the woofer has the power cord hooked into it and the audio jack that goes to the computer. All of this is plugged in correctly, they clearly have power. Do i have a bad audio jack?any help appreciated

    its wierd tho, i remembered them working before the format. and the speakers have never been bumped real loud to where theyd die. when you plug them in you get the power on static but thats all i've heard from em. i kinda think its just the cord that connects them to whatevrt audio device they connect to.

  • Could Use some help...

    Hey everyone, I was wondering if anyone would help me with this strange little problem I'm having.
    I'm 15 and taking a Java class at the local community college, and our current assignment is to make a String class for java. anyway, here is my string class:
    public class myString {
        private final int MAX = 50;
        private char[] mystr = new char[MAX];
        //constructors
        public myString() {
            char[] defstr = {'d', 'e', 'f', 'a', 'u', 'l', 't'};
            mystr = defstr;
        public myString(String str) { setStr(str); }
        public myString(char[] carray) { setStr(carray); }
        public myString(myString anotherStr) {
            mystr = anotherStr.get();
        //setters
        public void setStr(String str) {
            mystr = str.toCharArray();
        public void setStr(char[] carray) {
            mystr = carray;
        //others stuff:
        public char[] get() { return mystr; }
        //the lefts(maybe I did too many O_o):
        public char left(char[] carray) { return carray[0]; }
        public char left() { return mystr[0]; }
        public char[] left(char[] carray, int n) {
            char[] leftstr = new char[MAX];
            System.arraycopy(carray, 0, leftstr, 0, n-1);
            return leftstr;
        public char[] left(int n) {
            char[] leftstr = new char[MAX];
            System.arraycopy(mystr, 0, leftstr, 0, n-1);
            //System.out.println(leftstr);  <- this gave me a good report.
            return leftstr;
        public char left(String str) { return str.toCharArray()[0]; }
        public char[] left(String str, int n) {
            char[] leftstr = new char[MAX];
            str.getChars(0, n, leftstr, 0);
            return leftstr;
    }here is my main:
    import java.io.*;
    public class stringtest {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            myString hfb = new myString("happy fun ball, still legal in 16 states!");
            char[] d00d = {'d', '0', '0', 'd', '!', '!', '1', '!'};
            char[] whatev = hfb.left(15);
            System.out.println(hfb.get());
            System.out.println(hfb.left("well, lets see this one", 6) +
                "\n" + whatev + "\n" + hfb.left(d00d, 4));
            System.out.println(hfb.lowercase("d00d, PWNED") + "\n" + hfb.uppercase());
    }and here is the report it produces:
    happy fun ball, still legal in 16 states!
    [C@119c082
    [C@1add2dd
    [C@eee36c
    [C@194df86
    [C@defa1a
    so I suppose you can already see my problem here. Now I put a println in myString. it was in the left(int n) function, just before the return statement. It printed "happy fun ball", so it worked. It was a good report.
    when I return it, though, it gives me some hexadecimal number with a crazy symbol in front of it.
    What throws me off more is that my get function works fine, and when I use it it shows a normal report.
    So, yeah. any help is greatly appreciated. This is due tomorrow(hurray for procrastination), so I could use help soon.
    Sorry if I seem to be rambling, its late, and I want to sleep :)

    hmm..
    I tried making one(which unfortunatly resulted in my direct use of the string class, rather than like an extra. I was hoping to avoid it), but it didn't change anything. Now I think I did something wrong, or perhaps I'm calling it wrong.
    will it automatically get used if I do something like System.out.println(myString.left(5));?
    Or do I have to get the left method to return a string?
    and why does get() work correctly?
    This whole thing is confusing me a lot, because it seems so inconsistent. I think its just evry language's deep, personal hatred for me :)
    any further help is also appreciated, and thanks for replying so quickly :)

  • Going a little crazy - Could use some help please

    Okay...Ive been reading about this all morning and I'm a little stumped and hoping for some fresh ideas.  I'm on a Windows 7 64 bit system.  It had Premiere Elements 7, but now has 10.  I have a Canon HV20 HD camcorder.  I used this camcorder about 6 months ago to import some video into Premiere 7, and everything worked swimingly.  Import was via Firewire.  Recently, I got back from a trip and was disturbed to find out I could no longer import video. On PE7 I was getting a C+++ error and being bounced out.  Since I was on an old version I splurged and bought 10.  Now it doesnt error out, but I can't capture content. I can control the camcorder, but when I go to capture I get garbled audio and just some flashes of pixelizaiton on an otherwise black screen.  Content looks fine on the camcorder, but doesn't get capture.  The video files created look indentical to the capture preview with garbled audio and some pixelization across the top of the screen.  I've updated Firewire drivers, rolled firewire drivers back, updated Quicktime, video drivers...checked the modes for the camcorder and nothing seems to work.  Any ideas?  Thanks!

    Thanks for the note Steve.  I should have mentioned that I did try that, to no avail.  I just finished trying some things on 3 seperate computers.  First, I downloaded the free version of Vegas and noticed the same results.  I then moved the firewire card to my son's computer.  His is also Win7 64 bit.  I made the move based on the assumption that it was something in my PC.  This move resulted in similar results.  Then, reading Bill's trick and noticing it referenced Win7 64 I moved the firewire card to my wife's win7 32 bit machine.  Same results.  On all 3 I tried Vegas, HDVSplit and Premiere.  All let me control the camcorder, but dont actually show the video.  I'm starting to think my firewire cable or card are shot.  Does that seem at all likely?  I'm not a heavy firewire users, so I'm not sure if thats likely.  I'd hate to run buy stuff if I'm on a goose chase.
    Thanks all.

  • Very Frustrated and could use any advice

    I just got my ipod, and the initial setup went perfectly. The songs downloaded to the ipod fine, etc; now, a day later, every time my ipod is updated the songs/ whatever is on the ipod is erased. I've gone through the Five R's and looked but I don't see anything dealing with my problem. Now every time i connect the ipod to itunes it asks me to register the ipod. The ipod itself shows the Do not disconnect screen although most of the time itunes isn't downloading anything.

    Um, still trying. I think that every time I connect to iTunes the ipod has to re-register, and the music is downloaded. Except that once it's done, Itunes doesn't recognize the ipod and the ipod says do not disconnect.

  • Hi Every1, I am new here and could use some advice!

    Any1 out there have any suggestions for some1 who shares a Verizon account with a control freak future-ex who behaves like he is punishing me for not< "snapping to" when ordered to do so?
    See, he went out for a drive one night to clear his head! He came home the next day at about the time when he knew I had a doctors appointment. He ran out on our son and I and moved in with his girlfriend! I didn't know he had a girlfriend!!! My son and I were crushed and felt discarded. Well, we got over that and now having problems because when future ex left us, he made himself manager of the account which requires permission from him to do almost anything.  Both, our son and I have asked for permission and in the case of our son, help resolving an issue with the smart phone he is having trouble with! He behaves like the typical control freak! Initially, he was going to peel off of our original account and open an account of his own. But I am betting he found out if he separated himself from our/my Verizon account, he would loose our grandfathered unlimited data plan!
    The future ex also upped the minutes on this account to 1400 minutes a month and it's really annoying because he was always in our faces about not going over our shared 700 minutes for the last seven or eight years. We all, at one time or another, went over on minutes and we temporarily had to up our minutes for that month we went over. As soon as that billing period was over, he would make certain that he switched the minutes back ASAP.
    Anyhow, he will not give permission for us to do anything in that account. That includes me being able to register a replacement phone that I had to purchase because I blew the screen out and who knows what else, on my incredible on Christmas Eve when I dropped it on Sam's Club cement floor and the phone case basically exploded! Well, funnily enough, the phone itself still charges thru USB connected to the desktop. It also rings when a call comes in and alerts when i get vm. I can hear it linking to the desktop with the two note bong bing or disconnecting it from the desktop and it alerts with the bing bong. It also syncs with the computer because it was set to sync before I killed it! It doesn't respond to anything to do with the screen but I suspect the impact snapped something on the case, not just the screen not illuminating!
    If I could afford to, I would open my own account and chalk it up to experience...just to make things a bit more stressing for me, his income was two-thirds of our total income and he will only pay for the Verizon account, our homeowners insurance and his home depot card. That is until recently when I told my financial institution that I had canceled my draft for the automobile insurance and had the financial institution contact him, as well as the insurance company, to tell him that I have it in writing, from when he first left, that he would pay both insurance payments. He attempted to let all that go by because I wound up with other troubles as my social security check was cut almost in half by an error in their system which has left me upside-down by $809 and cost me approximately $690 in NFS fees against my account! Social Security is the only income I have as I am disabled and have a hard time going out to get groceries! Being without my smart phone has been a real challenge as there are some days when I cannot get out of bed! Watching television all day is depressing to me when I don't have a choice!
    Sorry this is so long but I want to make certain I don't omit anything and misrepresent myself and cause anybody to go, "hey, why did she say that"! Yeah, that is what happens when you choose to live with an abuser! Five nights after he left, he came to pick up some of his property and brought his girlfriend with him. Not arrogant at all! That instigated an atmosphere of non-cooperation from me and some things happened! I will spare you all the details because there were too many! He wound up assaulting me and two teenage boys who were helping me carry his stuff out to the sidewalk, as agreed upon by both my husband and myself in advance. After he assaults us, he called the cops, I cannot figure out why other than to say he always feels like he is justified doing anything he pleases. The cops wound up arresting him for assaulting us! He had all kinds of trouble after that and although I told him I didn't press charges and neither did the boys. The State, County and Town did. No non-sense policy here and he was dumb enough to call the police after assaulting three people and ever since then, he won't cooperate on anything for me!
    I hope some1 can help me! I did call Verizon and explain the situation but they keep telling me they can't do anything to help me because of the privacy act!
    So I am stuck without a phone and I feel really vulnerable without it!
    Thanks for reading this and i promise to be short and sweet in the future!

    I agree with jim, there's no need for all the details.  If the "future ex" is paying the bill, and his name is on the account, then legally, he calls the shots.  If you can't live with the terms, then give him back your phone and your son's, let him decide what to do with those lines.  And do as jim suggested - go get a basic prepaid phone that will keep you connected for minimal (affordable) cost.

  • Memory timings... I could use some help here!

    I have a MSI K8T NEO FIS2R board. For long time I suffered serious system instability... due to bad memory.  Anyhow, yesterday I got me some GEiL memory, 2x 512MB of PC3500 memory (type 433 Ultra DDR KHS)
    Guess what? I can't get the system to run stable. I guess it has something to do with timings, although I don;t know how to set them.
    Can perhaps  anybody help me?
    My other components should be good (strong PSU, enough cooling etc).

    hmmm odd, I'm usually running at FSB 210 and higher X 11 modifier (3400+) and have a SATA RAID 0 array with no problems whatsoever.... guess It's just my time to have some good luck come my way, karma or something    all my other pc's were Intel's, had good and bad luck....blew a P4 & a P2 mobo (Intel) that were not that old or abused...lost 2 WD HD's for no apparent reason, a Maxtor 60 got bad sectors when it was pretty new (OEM), 17" monitor blew out (MAG) when 17's were pretty new and $$$$$, gone thru too many mice to count, made plenty of coasters with a cruddy burner after I replaced my old Lite-On (tried a Optorite, it sucked...replaced that with another Lite-On (most common rebadged-labeled/faceplated/slightly modded FW burners around (Sony/TDK etc)), had 2 Nvidia GeForeces replaced (luckily just had to pay for s&h), 3DFX went out 3 times on me... Flightstick Pro's springs snapped so many times that CH practically knew me by name..  had a Zoom external modem that needed repair.. Power supply graveyard.... I could go on but I'm sure anyone who's been with computers for over 25 years (started on a 4k TRS-80 with awesome tape player for sound!) could probably relate....  I held out against AMD for so long but thought WTH, it was originally a new HT P4 to replace my old P4 1.7 I was piecing together on newegg when I thought try the AMD, and luv my jet black speed demon... sorry was long-winded there but I'm totally stoked on this system.. Call of Duty is so fast MP with 64 players at 1600x1200x32 6x Aniso + 16x Antialiasing maxed to the teeth card & games.. I've yet to find a game to slow it down. Now with a 6mb DSL connection vs my ditched 1.5 yakoo for the same price (I live really close), I get the full BW & 3 static ip's to top it off (Blahoo charges too much for just 1 static ip, I had dynamic)...         just felt like blabbing for a few
    As for the Geil mem, try upping the mem voltage..I use 2.75...try as someone said CPU-Z and auto settings and see where they go vs. the advertised ratings. Often people add 1 to Ras to Cas as was mentioned on Mushkin's site for AMD64's...  I've read complaints about Geil but also good, so I dunno. Same for Corsair, Kingston etc...  Add to the settings and then fine tune them, same rule of thumb for overclocking. It can get frustrating 'tho I know. I posted much on the Mushkins just because they worked right outta their cases at 2-2-2 at 400...  Why the they stopped with the BH5's I have no idea... I got mine just in time as they were gone the next day or at least the true Black Hi-Perf Level II's except for 2700's & I knew the paired packs were the new "2-2-2 Specials" BH6's (also supposed to be good, just don't O/C as well). I've seen em on Ebay for alot of $$$. DDR2 is just around the corner, we'll have to see...  This system was the easiest to set up and the funnest to play around with to see what it could do (I still often make changes just for the heck of it even 'tho it's rock solid already) vs. all the Intels I've built for others & myself in the past (nothing against Intel)... actually the P2-450 was also easy, just not so much fun..notihng like BSODs when you make slight changes to make things tedious pretty fast. This AMD just acts a little funny when it's not quite right..  Donno, maybe Buddha helped pick out the parts from the warehouse or something........ :hypecrite:    I wish ya luck 'tho & hope you get it cruising asap.. deja vu!!
