  • I am going overseas... how will I connect?

    Hi,
I will be going overseas in a few weeks...
I'll need to connect with someone via iSight back here... how will I go about connecting to the internet? I haven't the slightest idea in Europe.
    thanks.

    Hi misterloso270,
    It depends.
If you are renting a house then you might need to but a modem and ISP service.
Touring gives you hotels and WiFi spots.
Hotels could offer Ethernet in the rooms.

I am going overseas to Singapore how can I use my ipad2 and my iPhone without it costing me a fortune. I am in Australia

    iPhone - Locating wireless carriers
The above will provide carriers in Singapore that you can use. You would get the SIM card from the carrier. Of course if you are somewhere that has WiFi service then you won't need the cellular connection.

  • Going overseas turning off all unnecessary data updates

We're going overseas and have read we should turn off all unnecessary data updates. What would one turn off? Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks

Very good question, as too many people don't ask it and are confronted with huge bills coming home from a holiday.
The answer of wjosten is applicable when you don't want to make or to be able to receive calls or send/receive SMS messages. In short: you'll use your iPhone at WIFI spots to access the internet.
If would like to remain reachable and be able to make calls I recommend your turn off all data usage through telephony networks when abroad, which you can do in Settings -> General -> Network -> Data Roaming
Note that generally when abroad you'll pay when answering a call and, optionally, receiving an SMS. Your service provider should be able to provide with the rates for this, as well as the rates for making a call or sending an SMS from the country you're in.
To check your e-mail and browse the web follow the advice of wjosten and look for WIFI networks on you destination. Even if they're not free, they are for sure cheaper than using the telephone network via your iPhone.

  • How do I get my Samsumg SIII unlocked?  looking at going overseas for a few months and need to unlock my phone so I can use it for service in new country,

I will be traveling in the far east for several months and have been told I can use my phone but have to unlock it.  Any ideas??

It does not need to be unlocked. Simply replace the Verizon SIM card with one you pick up while traveling.

  • Cannot connect to server -- going overseas so need to be able to connect...

I'm trying desperately to get used to Mail and to end up migrating there completely from Entourage (though I'm quite satisfied with it). I've tried sending things out there and it tells me about server connection problem. At some point I think I was told that there was a connection to servers but still no success in sending, either from my .mac account or my other email account (which I cannot setup at all because there's no connection to its servers either). I think there's something fundamentally wrong that I'm doing or missing. Can I be helped?

<there's something fundamentally wrong that I'm doing or missing. Can I be helped? >
Although you're perfectly happy with Entourage, for some reason you desperately want to get used to Mail but are encountering all sorts of problems. Yes, there is something fundamentally wrong that you're missing. And yes, you can be helped. Stay with Entourage.

  • I'm going overseas and want to be able to upload my photos at the end of every day to a safe place.

I see that images uploaded to the Canon Image Gateway are reduced in size by default. For example, an image of 4.5M that I sent was reduced to 800K.
Is there any way to keep the image's original size?

I use both Dropbox and Google Drive -- both are free and provide a limited amount of storage space.
Dropbox.com gives you 2GB free but you can buy more.
    It's 9.99/month for 1TB
Google Drive (drive.google.com) gives you 15GB free and you can also buy more.
It's $1.99/month for 100GB and 9.99/month for 1TB (at which point it's the same price as Dropbox).
These are both basically "disk drives in the cloud" -- you can store any file on them since they aren't just for photos.

no you just need a plug adapter

  • I am going oversea to Rome Italy in a few months.  If I take my iPad2 with me will I be able to use it there for skyping and Internet use?  Is there something special that I have to purchase or install to get it to work properly over there

I would like to know if my iPad2 will work in Rome Italy using the Internet or wifi and will I be able to Skype with it there?   Will I need to buy and/or install something on it together it to work?

All iPads are Wifi, so it will work fine when you have a wifi connection.  If you have a 3G iPad and it is AT&T, requiring a microsim, you can purchase prepaid sim cards from a carrier in Italy.  If you have a Verizon iPad 2, it uses CDMA, which is very unlikely supported in Italy, whereas AT&T is GSM, which is widely supported around the world.

  • Travelling overseas on dont want huge bills

Hi we are going overseas and taking my phone only to send and receive texts.  What do i need to turn off so i dont get charge fees..  I beleive  i need to turn off notifications,   turn off location services...cellular data off too and data roaming off......but what about 3G...?
Also,  what about voice mail...do i need to turn that off...Thanks   Anna

Go to Settings - General - Network - Data Roaming. It says "Turn off data roaming when travelling to disable email, MMS, web browsing and other data services". Then you are fine. You don't have to switch off any other services - because they all receive their data via this. And you don't have to turn off 3G. If you want to save more money, switch off voice mail before you leave the country.

  • Using my IPhone 4S overseas

I am going overseas next month and I am shutting off my service while I am over there.
I was wondering if I would be able to use my IPhone 4S via Wifi to still operate the apps such as Facebook, Safari, Skype, and Voxer?

Yep. Just put the phone in Airplane mode, then go back into settings & turn WiFi on.

  • IPhone 3G overseas

I am going overseas to Greece and am trying to find an adapter that works with everything I am bringing. I found an adapter that has 2 usb ports on it but not sure if connecting the iPhone to this adapter via USB will cause any problems. Is the battery in the iPhone set for dual voltage or will I have to use the USB Power adapter that comes with the iPhone to charge it on the adapter?

Because your car's cigarette lighter adapter isn't properly designed to work with the iPhone 3G/3Gs. The 30-pin docking connector (cable end) can provide power over either the FireWire power pins or the USB power pins. Older iPods can accept power from the FW pins, but new iPods and the newer iPhones cannot. However, since USB is limited to 5 V, and car power is 12 V, the manufacturers need to include a step-down transformer (extra cost) to provide power over the USB pins. So, to save money, they just delivered 12 V over the FireWire pins, which was fine for the iPods and the Original iPhone, but is not compatible with the newer models. So, you need to buy a newer adapter that states it's compatible with the iPhone 3G.

  • Internal Webcam and Microphone not working after Screen Fix

I own a HP Envy Spectre XT Ultrabook, and last week I tried to use the webcam and the microphone for the first time in a few months.
However I was shocked to find that Skype kept saying that the webcam was not detected. The microphone also could not register any sound.
Device Manager did not show any imaging devices or the webcamera, even after setting it to view non-present devices.
A check using msinfo32 did not review the webcamera either, and there were no problem devices.
Control Panel >> Sound showed that the Internal Microphone using IDT High Definition Audio Codec was enabled and working, however it could not detect any sound. All drivers are checked to be up-to-date.
I suspect this has something to do with the screen repair last month which a HP on-site technician came down to replace my screen, although I cannot be 100% sure. Although the screen is now working, the technician did not do a good job reassembling the screen - the bottom left corner of the screen cover has not be able to attach properly to the screen.
I have gone through my BIOS setup to make sure that there is no webcam disabled.
I have tried rolling-back and reinstalling the drivers for the microphone but it did not work.
I have tried uninstalling CyberLink YouCam (laptop preinstalled webcam software).
Please help, these two components are very important to me as I am going overseas soon. The laptop is still under warranty.

    Hey ajun,
Thank you very much for the information!
For troubleshooting your Webcam, I would suggest taking a look at the document Webcam Troubleshooting (Windows 7). I would suggest the two options Video does not appear in your webcam software (such as YouCam, Skype, Messenger, ect.), and Webcam is not listed in Device Manager.
For your internal microphone not working either, please take a look at the document Resolving Microphone and Line-in Problems (Windows 7). From this document, I would suggest following the top two symptoms.
Please let me know the outcome of these troubleshooting steps.
Good luck, and have a great day!

  • Setting up Airport Express for use in hotel room

How can I set up AE so that I can just plug it in to an ethernet cable in a hotel room? I want to primarily use it as a wifi connection with my iPhone, so I would prefer to not have to adjust settings. Is this possible?

I'm going overseas for a week, have some time on my hands so will give it a go.
Well, the pdf guide that came with the Airport Express says you can. It's a matter of following the setup wizard....
There's no step by step screen shots, so you can only go by Apple's word that this does actually happen.
    Good luck.

  • Why won't Apple give out the unlock code for an iPhone 3Gs when the contract was honored and I am still an AT

Why won't Apple give out the unlock code for an iPhone 3Gs when the 2  year contract was honored and I continued to be an AT&T customer with an iPhone 4. I wanted my old 3gs unlocked so my daughter could use it overseas when she is deployed. AT&T service over there *****, the international plan was not worth it. The individual SIM cards per country are much more reliable and cheaper. Teslestial in Iraq and Afghanistan, Telecom in Croatia,Vodafphone in Germany and Italy.  Why Apple will not unlock these phones for our military to utilize is incomprehensible to me.  These young men and women are fighting for these Apple people to go to work every day, safe, to live lives they have become accustom to yet releasing a phone to use on another network they can't do at least for the military.... WHY APPLE??  WHY?   A good excuse not some of the many lame excuses I have received on the phone many times. AT&T states it is Apple that will not allow them to unlock the phones...  Please tell me why?  All I want Is my daughter to have a phone I trust, to be able to call me when she is given the free time to do so and I trust the apple phone.
Apple, please reconsider your stance on this issue.  I am having a hard time understanding why you will not unlock the iPhone.
A simple code could allow me to talk to my daughter while fighting for our country the Great USA.  Apple should be on the front line and enabling those fighting for our life, liberty and pursuit of happiness to use unlocked phones on reliable local GSM networks.
I honestly hope that someone who has some sort of authority to begin allowing the release of unlock codes, and not forcing people to unlock their phones with some program produced by some hack just to be able to use your wonderful phone.  That is is in a nutshell, People love the iPhone so much that they want the ability to use it on the most reliable GSM carrier available to them.  That should be a major compliment. Even men and women on the front line want your phone. I agree, my service is not the best where I live either, love the GSM technology so stay with it, but if I had the ability to change to the other GSM network that has much better coverage in this area of the country I would change. To change now I would not have my iPhone and that I will not part with.
Apple, please reconsider opening up the lock code and allow your gem of a phone to be used by many more people in many more areas and most importantly overseas fighting for our country.  I know if this is really thought about Apple would understand and come to the conclusion to release the unlock codes, and stop the people from hacking in to use the iPhone on other networks.
I would love for my daughter to be able to use my iPhone 3gs while fighting for our Free country.
    A response would be appreciated.
    Thank you.
An Apple customer for 10 years, phones and computers.

    Defiled:
I did sign a two year contract and completed that contract. The 3gs is no longer in service. My daughter is going overseas to protect you and your family. I was attempting to find a way for her to have a reliable phone that could offer her some connection with home as she travels through the middle east.  She travels in missions all over.
At&T unlocks other phones of theirs why not the iPhone?  AT&T says that Apple will not give them the code, it is not the carrier.  If I would have known this situation would have come up I would have bought and unlocked 3gs phone"Deggie" .  My main complaint is that Apple has not good excuse as to why they will not allow their phones to be unlocked from services well, AT&T .  I bought the phone full price, completed the contract terms, even went for and iPhone 4 with another2 year contract, along with owning an apple computer... I love the product.  My main issue is give me a good answer as to why you won't allow a phone to be unlocked. It doesn't hurt Apple, People still have to buy the phones from them, and use their App store and iTunes.
Sorry, just upset about my daughter heading over there, boots on the ground, and just pray she will be safe. Would have liked to facetime her while she is in the airports and in specific areas allowed for that.
Please don't come down on me for asking this question. I understand all the contracts etc.... but to single out the iPhone specifically to not unlock after contract is over does not seem fair.
    Thank you for your responses.
