I'm going to kill myself - and Linksys!
Just purchased a new pavilion laptop which did NOT recognize my current wireless setup.
So over to the desktop for some tweaking.
Multiple beers later I had forgotten what changes (if any) I had made to the Linksys settings or any other settings.
After two days and nights of constant exploration and Coronas I think I have managed to change whatever one could change.
Problem: I can connect to the internet with a USB cable direct from modem to PC. I have now lost the ability to do so with the ethernet cable.
When the router is thrown into the mix with the associated Ethernet Cable then I may as well be connecting to a can of baked beans.
Nothing happens unless the USB is present for an internet connection and even then I can only access the internet.
The router is out of play.
Firmwear upgrade didn't happen because linksys couldn't see an internet connection.
All of the fixes that have been recommended from all parts of the planet have been attempted - to no avail.
Reinstalled the linksys software, etc.
Spent hours with various enthusiastic Comcast techs whose solutions didn't work.
Read a million forums
Today I decided to tackle it from the Laptop direction.
After days of telling me that it couldn't find home base, today it suddenly relented a little.
Gleefully it informed me that "linksys 2" was available for my immediate consumption.
Since I had attempted to reset everything on the desktop and router, I wasn't in a position to complain about whether or not that happened to be my assigned name.
If a neighbor's connection is open and that is THEIR name then I decided that I would just run with that for a while until things improved.
Mind you it could actually be my "home".
I just don't know.
But no luck - The laptop is not connecting to the internet anyway!!
Current situation:
I decided today would be an opportune time to give up cigarettes.
Real bad timing!!!
I have a USB from modem to PC ( gives me inetrnet access)
Ethernet cable from modem to router and thence to PC ( gives me nothing)
Router internet light flashing.
If I disconnect the USB I'm lost.
Many beers later on Saturday and Sunday night I had opened every dialogue box known to mankind and did my best to try new things.
At first I was able to memorize those intial changes but as I became lost in the Bill Gates jungle I hoped that luck and good fortune would aid my escape back to my initial settings.
So it is now Monday evening and I am removing my shoe laces to hang myself with.
Can someone help?

I have tried EVERYTHING!
First you should be able to go online directly thru the modem using an Ethernet cable(Modem to Computer)...
Once you have Internet Connection(Modem to Computer) reset your router.
Press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds.Then, unplug the power keep holding down the reset button for another 30 Seconds.Plug back the power back in, and keep holding down the reset button for 30 Seconds.Release the reset button.Then you can follow this linkto set your router for Internet Accesss.
Once you have Intenet you can set the Wireless Settings(Network Name and Wireless Security) :
Access the setup page of the router by launching an Internet
Explorer and type on the address bar, 192.168.2.1 and press enter. When
it prompts for the username and password, leave the username field
empty and provide password as “admin "" all in lower cases and then
click on ok.
Click on the Wireless tab
- Here Wireless Network mode should be mixed
- Provide any name in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) box, all in
lower cases without any spaces in between.
- Set wireless channel to 11
- And wireless SSID broadcast should be Enabled and then click on save
settings.
Please make a note of Wireless Network Name (SSID) as this is the
Network Identifier.
For Wireless Security : -
Now Click on the Sub tab under Wireless > Wireless Security.
Change the Wireless security mode to WEP
Encryption should be 64 bits.
Leave the Pass phrase blank, don't type in anything.
And under WEP Key 1 type in any 10 numbers please.
Click on save settings.
Please make a note of WEP Key 1 as this is the Security Key for the
Wireless Network.Check if that works...

GOING TO KILL MYSELF!CLIPS STOP RENDERING! HELP!
I am ready to jump off a tall builing! I created a movie, spend hours editing clips, then all of a sudden the clips stopped rendering. I gave it a whole day to try and complete, b/c I was terrified of closing the progam and losing everything. Well, it's like it just froze. The little red line stopped moving. So I ended up losing the entire movie. I tried to get it out of the trash, but the strangest things is that all of the clips were reduced to 00.00.01 secs. In other words, completely invisisble. I couldn't stretch them back to their original size of about 1.2 secs. So I decided to start the whold **** movie from scratch again. I HAVE TO FINISH THIS PROJECT! So I go to import all of my clips (still and movie), and sure enough, about half render, but the rest are stuck. The red bar stopped half-way in the middle of one picture. WHAT IS GOING ON? PLEASE HELP ME SOMEONE! THIS IS RUINING MY LIFE!!!

That is sound advice, especially regarding iMovie itself. Not that it does create problems, but rather that it might.
The original poster does not say whether or not recent updates have been installed, or even if they have, whether the project pre-dated that installation.
And the wording of your comment suggested that it was necessary to return to earlier versions not only of QT but also of iMovie and the OS!
I too have noted that some seem to have had problems after the latest QT update, indeed I initiated a topic to check out the extent of this. Most people who responded had no problems at all, so I up-dated my laptop version. It is running flawlessly, and yes, KB imports perfectly.
My initial response to you was simply to point out that it was rather too dogmatic to state that the update was definitely the cause of the problem.
By the way, just how many is 'countless'?:-)

I am going to buy myself a MacBook Pro in the near future and was wondering if the new Retina Display model would be worth the extra cash. I will mostly be doing photo/video/music editing.
if you're not in a big rush - why not hold off until Adobe and Microsoft releases an update to support the Retina Screen.
Don't get me wrong - the Macbook Retina is a good and videos look great - but when it comes to Photoshop, it's a little blurry and the fonts in Excel and Word is pretty blurry too.....I own one....
In any event, if it's something you can live with - then by all means - go for it.....
Otherwise - get the non Retina Macbook Pro - it's cheaper, and it's user upgradeable in both RAM and Hard Drive.

I am about to go get my 4th iphone 4s since November! Up in the left corner where it shows your signal strength, it goes into searching mode and stays there. Kills my battery. While in searching, no calls can be made/recieved, no internet, etc. This one has lasted the longest-I got it December 23. Any ideas out there?
Both. The first two, I did use my itunes. The guy at the apple store said that could be the problem. The last time they gave me a new phone and SIM card, and the tech said it wouldnt be the itunes. Just to be safe, I never connected this phone to the itunes until last night-after it started searching- to save everything since I'm sure they will be replacing the phone today. But hey, thanks for the suggestions. I'm about at my wits end with Apple!! Especially since i added a third line to my account just so I could get an iphone back.

I spilled a small amount of wine on my macbook pro keyboard, I know, killing myself over this! I dried it fully but 24 hours later the keys are very sticky and it won't find the Bluetooth module so I can't use my magic mouse - everything else seems to be working fine. Thanks for any tips!
Your keyboard will never be right again; it needs to be replaced. There's no effective way to clean sticky stuff out of it. Your Bluetooth module may have been shorted out and destroyed, and it probably isn't dry yet after only 24 hours.
Take your machine in for repair, and expect a hefty bill in the hundreds of dollars. -
Verizon DSL, Westell 6100 Modem and Linksys router
If anyone is having a hard time getting these three to work together to get on-line, I know your pain. I've spent the better part of two days trying to get these devices to talk to each other. After hours spent trying different combinations and little to no help from Verizon and Linksys I have finally gotten my DSL up and running through my Linksys router. I post this in hopes that someone doesn't spin their wheels like I have been doing over the past few days. Here's what I did to get them to work:
1. Reset both the Linksys router and the Westell modem
2. Unplug the router and the modem
3. Connect an ethernet cable from your Apple to the Westell modem and power it back on
4. Type 192.168.1.1 in the address bar of your browser of choice. The username should be "admin" (w/o the quotes) and password should be "password" (again no quotes)
5. It will ask you to update your username and password
6. Under the CONFIGURATION heading select VC CONFIGURATION and click on EDIT
7. Make sure that both PROTOCOL and MODE are set to BRIDGE
8. Click on SET VC and then click OK when asked if you want to reset for new configuration to take affect
9. Once again power off the modem for about a minute then power it back up
10. Login again with the login you created above and go to the STATUS/ABOUT column and write down the MAC address
11. Set it to DHCP OFF and change the Private Lan Modem IP to 192.168.2.1. Write this down and keep it so you can access your modem in the future.
12. Save the settings. You will lose communication with the Westell at this point. Once again, power down the modem for about a minute.
13. Connect the ethernet cable from the modem into the Internet port on the Linksys router and then connect your Apple to the first ethernet spot
14. Turn on both the Linksys router and the Westell modem
15. With your browser (Safari or Firefox) type in 192.168.1.1. Under SETUP go to MAC ADDRESS CLONE and enter the MAC address you wrote down for your Westell modem earlier and then save the settings
16. Make sure you are in DHCP mode and not PPPoE
17. Save, exit, and you should be on-line
That was a lot more difficult than it had to be. I certainly didn't get this from the support folks from Linksys or Verizon...a lot of trial and error and investigating on-line. I hope this saves you from the headaches I experienced.

In the Linksys Help system "Easy Answers" there's the question "How can I set up a Linksys router with DSL Internet?" This is what I used to try and solve my Internet connection problem.
The Answer says "Most DSL providers use Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet (PPPoE) ..." and goes on to explain how to set up the router for PPPoE. However, my service (AT&T/Yahoo high speed internet) uses DHCP. That meant I spent several frustrating hours trying to get it to work with PPPoE.
The Answer would have been better if it first explained how to tell if you have PPPoE or DHCP (see the reply from vness above, it's an excellent explanation), and then linked to the appropriate setup instructions.

Cisco and Linksys products mixed environment

Before I ask my question, I would like to know if it's OK to ask questions regarding both Cisco and Linksys products in this forum, or if this forum is just for Cisco OR Linksys? I just want to make sure before I ask my question.
The devices we are talking about are UC520, Catalyst Express 520 Switch, and 2 Linksys SRW224P Switches.

We are using the UC520 as a PBX System, VPN Server, and what-have-you. On the expansion port, we connected the CE520 Switch, and we have many phones, and some other devices connected to it. Now, on ports 5 and 6 of the UC520, we connected the 2 Linksys Switches we've had for a couple of years now. Anyway, on these switches we have a few computers connected, but what I am having problems is 8 IP Cameras (PVC2300 also by Linksys). What we wanted to do was to create a new VLAN (2) on the UC520 to house these IP Cameras (all of which have static IP addresses in the subnet 192.168.0.1/24). We need the office manager's laptop to be able to see the cameras, but this laptop is in VLAN 1 (192.168.10.1/24). I opened up at case with TAC and they helped me create the VLAN and all this, and now they said it should all be working OK, except it's not, and they said it has to do with the Linksys switches (which they can't provide support for). I am not a networking wizard, I consider myself a very basic IT guy when it comes to this, so I am not sure what I'm supposed to do on the switches to have them communicate correctly with the UC520 and VLAN 1 and 2. Right now, the computers connected to the Linksys Switches are actually in VLAN 1, and can access the IP Phones Web GUI, so I don't know why this new VLAN is not visible by the Data VLAN.
I hope I am clear, and if you have any questions I will be glad to answer them.

Have two mail accounts and i want to keep them separate but want to EASILY switch back and forth from the main screen instead of going through, Settings, Mail, and selecting account. Major pain the butt. This has been a request from Apple users for many years. it's great you can now combine all emails into one, but some people want them kept separate and have separate icons on the main page. They could easily do this by having one "MAIL" account as white and another red. Or put MAIL 1 and MAIL 2. Or an actual label that the mail accounts are called on the ICONS!!

I currently have two email accounts setup. My iPhone main page Mailbox settings reads:

I wish there an efficient way to move back and forth while in the "Inbox" between accounts. Also, Why does one gmail account show as "Gmail" and another as the actually address?
The names are based on the names you gave the accounts when you set them up.
Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars.
Tap the account you want to re-name. Go to the "Description" field and put in what ever you want.
Second, there is no way to quickly choose a bunch of emails to delete. I have to manually go into each one and move it to the Trash folder.
If you tap the edit button in the upper right while in mail, you can select multiple items to move, delete or mark (flag).
I don't want any of the condescending remarks, that I've read here and in other forums. I'm honestly looking for a solution, which I think you are too! One thing I realized is that iPhone users in these forums are really defensive and quick to say "that's how it is, live with it, if you don't like it go away" Um...the only thing that tells me is you are pretty bitter and have kept telling yourself that, to force yourself to like your device. I prefer to express my issues, and find solutions. There is ALWAYS a solution...
I think what you will find is that many people here, myself included, tend to get a bit short with people who start off with attacks or whining about how something has been asked for for years and should be easy, rant about things that have already been beaten to death multiple times in the forums, talk about how much better Android or BB are at something (really... if it's that much better, why did they buy an iPhone to begin with?), etc., or continue to ask questions that could easily be answered with a simple search, or even just by looking back at the last dozen posts to the forum, half of which probably asked the EXACT SAME question.
I don't think any of us go out of our way to be rude or uncivil. That said, attacking the people who are attempting to help you is much more likely to generate a response of 'if you don't like it, go away', than it is to generate something that will be truly helpful. -

I am about to hook up my airport extreme. My cable modem goes into a router, and one of those ports will supply my airport extreme. I was told by the Apple Store that I would need to configure my airport extreme as a wirreless access point. How do I do this?

Unfortunately, you won't be able to do this as few non-AirPort routers will work with AirPorts in a Wireless Distribution System (WDS). -
So I keep trying to sync music to my iPhone from iTunes, and whenever I select the album the sync goes by really fast and nothing goes onto my phone. Then when I click "On this iPhone" it shows the songs, but they're grey, and I can't click on them. Help?
Ok, sorry. And yes, I just restored my iPhone as new and tried to put all the songs on there before I even restored with my previous backup, but it still does the same thing... even when I just checked the option to sync only "selected music or videos". How's that possible?
P.S. After I tried syncing with checked songs only, nothing showed up under Music on my phone and this message popped up in iTunes: "The iPhone "..." could not be synced because the sync session failed to finish." If you could, please tell me what that means, thanks. -

Most of the iMac's have sometype of video output port on the back. You will problably need a converter.
The 'hollywood' industry has been making it more difficult to get video out over time to prevent copying.
