I'm happy with my MBP so far...

Just getting nervous from all the posts from other users saying that the CPU whine is not starting until after they've owned the machine past the time window of returnability.

If you have the CPU hiss it will be there from the first day.
Mine has that hiss and it's a non-issue for me.

  • Are you happy with panel 9c9e on the mbp 13"?

    Hi,
Just want to know if there is anyone elese that is happy with the infamous panael 9c9e on the macbook pro 13" . I've read a lot of posts about it but when i look att my screen I can't see the things I'm supposed to see - blue gets purple and all washed out colors. I just can see a bright and nice looking screen with accurate colors. What's wrong with me?

I upgraded from a unibody macbook to the new macbook pro with the 9C9E and can tell you that the screen is definitely better quality, but there are a few instances where I do notice that some blues go purple. It's not half as bad as people make it out to be, or maybe I just got lucky. I don't see neon yellow, or feel like I'm living in a purple wonderland; it's more like royal blue...google links are royal bluish/purple, the top bar is definitely royal blue (like if you click the apple logo) and craigslist looks a little purplish. This is all after calibrating multiple times. What I DO really notice is that scrolling down on a google search or other page does a weird graphic stuttering that my "old" unibody Macbook didn't do, as well as the display just not being as bright (I'd say about 70% as bright as the macbook was).
Honestly, I've had it for almost a week and a half and I'm undecided about whether or not I want to try and return it, since I got a refurb...and I'm getting more and more convinced that this is the type of thing that leads to madness in the long term. You could obsess about this stuff all day, and as you can tell by doing a google search, some people are.

  • Not very happy with warranty replacement

I am not trying to get something for nothing when I make the statement that I am not happy with the replacement touch that apple sent me for my almost out of warranty touch that completely stopped working. I am happy with the customer service, the easy return and very quick replacement. I am not completely happy with the touch that was sent to me. I can't say that is broken, it is just doggish and seems to have a really short battery life. It really seems slower then my previous touch and has seems to do odd things often, like I open a simple app (like the calendar)and it opens for a second and closes immediately or the response to touch is very slow at times. There is nothing really wrong with it but this is the 3rd own I have owned and it is by far slowest and least responsive. Does anyone have any opinion on if I have any recourse?
Also, When I put in the serial # of this replacement, which I received on the 1st of this month, Apple website tells me that the warranty has expired. I know this to be wrong because of the paperwork enclosed with the replacement said thae warranty is 90 days or remaing period, whichever longer.

Send it (or take it to an Apple store with all the relevant paperwork) and get another one.
I bought 3 Touches in the middle of January for my kids and the youngest one's was similar; slow, bad battery life, wierd backlight glitch, apps crashing. Took it to the local retail store and they replaced it with no hassle. I didn't even have my receipt. It was a 4th gen so obviously was less than a year old.
EDIT: I are a gud spellar

  • Is there someone really happy with his new iMac 20"?

I mean, someone who hasn't got issues, in any way?
I've just ordered the alu iMac 20" and I cannot wait to receive it...I've seen it in the store and I don't care 'bout the "gradient effect" since i'll use it for recording audio...but reading these boards is not really encouraging...
    Excuse my english,
    thank you.

Yes there are plenty of us who are happy with them, it's just that the unhappy are far far more likely to be posting about it. There are even a few posting negatively about them who don't even have one! It is a distorted representation.
I use mine for pro audio. It works very well thanks, and as for the gradient..
The weird effect at the top corners is my cameras lens. Every screen I take with it looks the same (Dell DVI 18" screens, TVs)

  • Will I be happy with a iMac?

I currently have a DC G5 2.3 with 2.5 gigs of ram. I want to upgrade to a intel machine so I can also run windows for flight simulator X . On the mac side I run Abobe creative suite 3 mostly running Photoshop. I also have a MBP 2.4, which runs Photoshop and Flight Simulator very well, but after a few hours it gets very hot. I like having a Desktop along with a laptop. My question for 24” iMac owners will I be happy with the performance and are there any heat issues? Also is it easy to add ram or am I stuck with expensive Apple ram? Thanks

My iMac screams and runs CS3 Apps very well. In the beginning it did seem to get a bit hot. Never had any issues with it but I was concerned so I installed Temperature Monitor and SMCFanControl. All I did was adjust the internal fan speeds up a bit and it runs about 10-15C cooler without any additional noise. RAM is easy to upgrade and cheap if you don't buy it from Apple.

  • Please post if you are happy with Time Capsule

Of course I know that folks generally only post here if they are unhappy or having a problem with something. I am seriously considering purchasing the 1TB TC and would really like to hear if others are happy with its performance, both as a router and as a backup device.
I have 4 Macs (24" Intel iMac, 20" Intel iMac, 2 Intel MacBoks) and one Win XP to be sharing the internet ......not all at the same time, of course. Only the Macs will be backing up to TC.
What kind of network speed can I expect? Will I get the faster n speeds from this setup? Will having 4 computers backing up to TC affect the speed at all?
I am simply interested in hearing from anyone who is successfully using TC and find it working well for them. Anyone like that out there? I hope, I hope, I hope .....
    Thanks!
    Kathy

I am now. At first it had some problems, from what I can tell ALL related to the machine/device names having apostrophes in them. This is a standard Apple thing. When you setup your device (a Mac) it says enter your name. I entered "mrh" without the quotes of course. Many things got labeled: "mrh's thing..."
So when TC arrived I hooked it up and had all kinds of problems with connections, backups failing, etc. When someone posted taking out the apostrophes in the names it all clicked and started to work.
It does run warm. I put mine on my old aluminum heat shield for my MBP 15. The thing ***** heat away from it and it is staying nice and luke warm now.
Speeds for me are acceptable. The only concern I currently have is I have two macs... 1 - MBP17 my main work Mac. 2 - MacMini used for music.
The MacMini recently was freshly reloaded with leopard. It has little on it. When TM backed it up it said it was gonna back up 38g. That is what it did. The sparse bundle on the TC shows 38g roughly for the Mini.
My MBP17 (which is hard wired) said it needed to backup 138g. At about 1/3 of the way through the backup it suddenly (unfortunately I was gone) said it was done. When I look at the sparse bundle for the MBP it shows barely 42g. So my question is did the initial backup work or not? It seems not. However TimeMachine is quite happy with the way things are and is showing history and everything just fine.
I relay on TimeMachine for file recovery. So I'm not too concerned if it did miss something. I use SuperDuper on a weekly basis to a different disk for total recovery. I figure if everything really crashes I can replace the MBP (either it or it's drive) and use SuperDuper to do a full restore, then TM to get any files that need to be brought up to date.

  • Happy with OS X 10.5 Leopard

Well, I have seen a lot of negative posts on this discussion regarding OS X 10.5 Leopard.
However, I have been quite happy with the operating system. Considering that this is a first version, without any updates, it's quite stable and usable. Of course there are going to be some bug fixes along the way. I already have found an application that doesn't run under it. But, I really think that most of these apps that don't run, simply haven't been developed under the guidelines set by Apple; or they have been developed in a very shoddy manner to begin with. Quite frankly, all my major apps run as expected.
I'm sure in time, fixes to minor bugs that come along will be issued.
Thank you to Apple, Inc for producing equipment and software far superior to that offered by Microsoft.
Now, I must complain about something in this post: When, for God's sake, are you going to offer the iPhone in Canada? I have some serious hard-earned cash waiting for that thing.
    Glenn

    Me too, i'm happy
I installed Leopard on both my G4 towers (one Dual 867mhz MDD, the other a Quicksilver Dual 1ghz).
I opted to UPGRADE on both installations and they went without a hitch. The only minor issue on the MDD G4 was the loss of my keychain passwords. I simply just deleted them and created new ones. After that, all is well and healthy.
ALL of my apps.....from FCP HD to Photoshop CS2 suite.....to Word X all work! Printing (Epson) and scanning (Epson) work just fine. All of my contacts, apps, buddy lists, docs, etc were all kept intact and are happily co-existing with Leopard.
Everything seems snappy. Networking is easier now and the screensharing works like a charm. Sure there are minor screen refresh bugs. I'll see my desktop flicker once a day or so. It happens quickly when i quit System Preferences or something. I'm sure it's a Video card issue, as i'm using the stock video card that shipped with my G4 (Nividia 32MB RAM).
DVD movie playback is even smoother than it was in Tiger. Everything works great.
Now if i could only afford a Mac Pro .... then i could witness Leopard SCREAM with Duo Cores

  • Much happier with CC (vs CS6)

Just wanted to let Adobe folk know the CC release has vastly improved my editing work over CS6, and I'm far more productive. Not due to new features as due to bug fixes. I'd take a bug fix over feature any day.
    - 100s of error messages when opening PrProj file using Wave Stabilizer no longer appear. This kept me from using Render Queue (same errors would appear) instead of Render Export, which kept me from multitasking a render with editing. Also it was unnerving.
    - Pre-rendering of audio. It seemed like dozens of things might trigger this, and it was ultimately inevitable if I worked on a project long enough. I still occasionally need to wait for pre-rending of audio, but it takes less time and is far less frequent. It seems like a reasonable mild annoyance, not one that makes me wonder what the hell is going on.
    - 1/3 of my PC's memory has been freed up. I do not know why, but I'm glad to see it as I was headed towards running out of memory (again) on a recently upgraded machine packing 64GB RAM.
Thanks for improving PPro. It is now what I was hoping for when I switched from Sony Vegas at the start of 2013.

  • Happy with 2.1 Update

Well, I for one am very happy with the 2.1 update. AT&T provides me with weak 3g coverage at my home even before the 2.01 update. While my 3G coverage from ATT is not any better, the iPhone does a much better job of hanging on to the signal than 2.02 did. I no longer drop calls when I am sitting in my living room. Battery life seems better to. Usually after 8 hours of use i am down a 1/4, it is still showing a full charge.
    Steve

Nice to hear that your battery has improved significantly. I'm going to test starting from Monday of next week to see how long I can get my iphone to go before it dies. On 2.02, from a full charge, I can go from Monday Morning (7 AM) and to Thursday Night before i go to bed. It annoys me bacause after first charge, and 1 day of using, already 1 line of battery went down. By the end of second day, my battery is showing at 50% And i only used few calls, and was always on airplane mode (since I go to school, and I barely get any service inside the building), and after i turn off the airplane mode the battery meter starts to go down pretty fast, and i can see that there is an inaccuracy there.
The reason why i choose to start testing on monday is to see how far i can get it up to and it's a lot easier for me to remember.

  • Happy with your Infinity service?

OK I'm new to BT & Infinity and am quite happy so far.
I noticed in another thread someone posted that there should be a thread for those that are happy with their service.
Well this is for those who are.
So for WIW this is a "feel good" thread.
Please ONLY post here if you have no issues.

I think I was responsible for the thread call!
When the Infinity ads first started appearing on TV I laughed, thinking that we'd be the last to get it being so far from the exchange and previous experience showed that any upgrades to broadband speed didn't apply to us. I was very surprised when I checked to see if I was eligible for Infinity that indeed I was. I duly ordered it and fully expected, even up to the day of installation, that an engineer would break the news that it couldn't be installed. But fair play to BT, it was installed promptly with no fuss.
So far I've had no issues with the service. Being on the Poplar exchange, which is well known for the slowest speeds in London, the switch to Infinity has been amazing. In the month or so I've had it I only had one brief slowdown at peak times but the difference between 20 and 37mb isn't noticeable when you've survived on .5mb. Both my wife and I can watch TV programmes at the same time when I couldn't even watch TV on one without constant buffering. I can download 1GB in under 10 mins, that would have taken the best part of a day before.
BTs customer service does seem to be lacking but the staff here kind of make up for that in solving problems. I can empathise with those that have problems with the service or getting the runaround by engineers. I'm sure the vast majority of people have no problems but they wouldn't be as vociferous as those having a bad experience.

  • Are you happy with your N97? (Psychomania where ar...

Are you guys happy with your N97s? Do you have major problems with it? (I have heard some issues such as connections to internet without user authorization and can't be turned off, do you have that?)
What about the white one? Do you think white one will be a dirt magnet? Any dirt problems with white one?
    Thx
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I cannot say that I am happy with my N97. i am returning to Nokia after many years using palm products, treo 600, Treo 650 and finally a Treo Centro. The principal reason for the change is that Treo don't do 3G and I needed a phone that i could use as a modem for my lappy when out and about and, quite basically EDGE does not cut it. So I have ben running a Centro fully loaded with apps for everything, editing, audio and video playback, turn by turn navigation with TomTom and an external GPS, audible audio books, lock down password app email and web. All solid reliable and verything synced with my mac and goosync. The whole lot cost about 320 quid. So I wanted a keyboard that put iPhone in the bin as well as its rather restricted availability. N97 looked like the real deal ut am I glad I got it as a vodafone upgrade rather than buy it myself!
    problems so far:
    1No real sync with Macs
2random lock up at end of call initiated from screenswwipe particularly if other app is running such as music
3persistent problems trying to get contacts onto the phone, it would not sync with anyy service, google, OVI ,goosync , OVI suite on PC, eventually yesterday I got a sync with PC suite after doing a factory reset so I now have contacts in the phone but do not have a reliable sync to update them or remote backup. The contacts app is also **bleep**. No findduplicates, totally unclear search that is not at all quick compared to the Centro
4 sat nav poor compared to tom tom, maps ( yes the latest ones) are at least 18 months out of date with road construction, search frequently fails to resolve destinations  from downloaded maps or over the air and today dumped me 5 miles off target due to a bad postcode search!
5 random bugginess. this is occasional incorrect screen updates, failure to stop displaying nag messages in maps application and on many internet connected sites after you press the buton or tick the box not to be shown them again.
6 that side switch! absolutely useless. can't use it if phone is in car cradle. had to put nUnlock on this does work most of the time but not always, depends on what app is on screen when it switches off the lights
7 battery life absolute rubbish if you are using sat nav or playing music and probably using wifi. Also intermittent failure to charge from either the Nokia power adapter or a usb connection with a laptop, very annoying if you have left it charging overnight and you are travellin all the next day
8 could use a decent agenda view for the day like every other calendar app
9 phone, why does it sometimes use nokia tune insead of the ringtone set in the profile? no contacts have associated tone  and this frequently happens when no caller ID is sent by the caller
10 essential apps that I have to pay extra for, PDF reader for goodness sake! free on every other platform! quick office, Functional docs to go free with treo!
11 generally poor and inconsistent user interface, though that may just be in comparison with mac and palm OS, did symbian hire ex microsoft programmers
To be honest I thought  that symbian would be more polisshed than palm OS which is very many years older and runs on tiny processers and ram how wrong I was.

  • For those who bought the matte screen option, are you happy with it?

    Hello,
I'm planning on getting a new Macbook Pro 15" and wanted to know if those who have the matte screen option are happy with it? Cosmetically does it look bad?
Wondering whether to get the matte option or just buy one with the glossy screen and then buy an anti glare cover to go over it? The laptop I'm used to is my sister's older Powerbook which is matte but lately I'm always on her white Macbook which is glossy. I know when I've used it outdoors it's a pain and if I watch TV shows on it I have to adjust the screen to see it just right.
So I thought I'd get others opinions. I don't have to have matte for work or anything but it's just my preference glare wise.

I have a pair of 17" MBP's, the one from last year in glossy, and the new one (i7 2010 model) in matte. The main reason I got the matte is because that was the only 17" i7's that were in stock at the Apple Store...I've never had a very strong opinion gloss vs. matte.
After close to a week, my eyes are liking the matte screen better. I also think the overall quality of the display is better...maybe my new one has a higher-quality panel than what my 2009 MBP has. Neither of them look "bad", but the I definitely enjoy looking at the images on the matte screen more. Also losing most of the reflections from the keyboard lighting is very nice in certain situations.
I believe the matte screen makes the lid overall slightly less rigid. People who do careless stuff like opening/adjusting the lid by grabbing it from near one of the corners might find it easier to damage the matte screen that way.

  • Are you happy with the new Unibody 2.0 Macbook?

    Hi There,
I have been a Windows user(not by choice) for the last, well, ever since I can remember. But after buying the iphone 3g am a mac fan. I have also seen the demo of the new unibody 2.0 macbook and have been hooked on to that. So after reading all issues reported on this forum, just wanted to ask owners as to what their experience has been and are they happy with the $1299 macbook? MY usage is mainly for internet, songs, videos and probably have to install XP to run a few of my oracle applications. But mainly want to use the mac OS. I am not into gaming so thats not really a concern. Also, any major disadvantages or problems that you have. I dont need firewire so thats not an issue.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Cheers guys!

I've been an Apple Laptop user since the Clamshells, and have adored most of them. This is the best one yet so far as I'm concerned. I am delighted, amazed, and in love! It's strong and solid, yet lighter than the plastic ones before it. Has all that I expect from a beautiful screen, responsive keyboard, and it's smooth-as-glass trackpad. This is a marvelous machine and I'm very, very happy with it.
Oh, and Ziatron there always posts on these threads about the firewire. He is correct that the Aluminum Macbook lacks firewire. The plastic has it, and so does the Macbook pro. So if that's an issue for you, then you need to think on that. However, the lack of firewire on the Macbook is Ziatron's particular hobby horse. A lot of us, myself included, have found it to be a non-issue. I've had this MacBook since the day they brought the new ones out and have not yet needed to plug in one thing that required firewire. I don't even know it's missing.

  • I now happy with N97

I was happy with phone when i got it. i was lucky not to have the keylock bug some ppl had
then things came to light, phone resets etc
but now since V20 I am happy
i did full reset coz i wanted new start with it
its now smooth, the rotation of screen is almost instant, the apps dont take half hour to show up, msging is quicker between selecting user, then their phone and sending
    i is happy
even the video records smoother (with less jilts)
also playback smooth on the device
the 1 thing i not happy with is that the nearest nokia centre to fix the gps areal bug is too far away
my gps signal is poor coz if it
Do u believe in love @ first sight, or should I post again?

    @olvi
Regarding the phone memory problem you are having, check the following questions and if the answer to any question is No, then do as the question says. This should help free up you phone memory (C
     1. Do you regularly clear your browser cache? ( Browser-> Options-> Clear Privacy Data -> Select Cache)
     2. Have you selected  E: (mass memory) as the default location for holding text messages? ( Messaging -> Options -> Settings -> Other-> Memory in use -> set to E:
     3.  Have you selected Mass Memory as the default location to install application in Ovi settings? ( Ovi -> Options -> Account -> Settings -> Installation Preferences -> Select E: for both options
     4. Have you (after doing step 3) uninstalled all the default widgets etc that came pre-installed in c: ( like facebook, accuweather, blooomberg, amazon etc) After unsintalling them you can download them again from Ovi and install them in Mass Memory, since you have already performed step 3. You can check which apps are installed in C: by checking Settings -> Application Manager -> Installed Apps -> Options -> View details. Once you know which one are in C:, you can take them out from C: and put them in E: as described above
    5. Have you moved the n97 Homescreen intro video(home_screen.mp4)  from C: to E:? I think its located in C:\Video Clips. Dont remember exactly coz I have already moved it. (This should free up around 1.5 mb)
    6. Download Y-Browser ( hmmm call it an enhanced file manager) Its a freeware, just google it up and download it. Once you download it, search for *.sis* files in your c: through Y-Browser and if you find any, move them to mass memory. As a minimum you will at least find MailForExchange_S60_5_0.sisx in c:. Move it to mass memory and this will save you another 1.5mb
After doing all of these, go into File Manager and check C:. You should be having something around 30mb phone memory free.  Let me know if this helps

  • Still on the fence about the Nano?  Are you all happy with yours?

    Hi,
Is there a certain week number I should look for when buying the Nano like week 38 (that was mentioned for the Touch model before). I know some have had problems with a slanted screen as well.
How about the sounds is it pretty good? I saw one in the store yesterday but they didn't have earbuds out for it. I'm still between this and the Classic but obviously want good performance so will sacrifice space for that in the end. Are there still bugs with this one?
    S.

I'm pretty happy with my 3G Nano so far. I got it about a week ago shipped from China (got it engraved from Apple). But my prior iPod was an original 1G 5GB iPod. So it's about 1/6th the size and has over 50% more capacity than what I'm used to. Battery life is a lot longer as well. The things I was looking forward to was the ability to view video and photos on a TV. So I'm most disappointed that Apple has locked the video out functionality. Only one reason makes sense for why they did that, and that is to stick it to their licensees so Apple can charge higher licensing fees for 3rd party iPod video devices. That decision can only frustrate and annoy iPod owners--expecially since even Apple isn't yet selling their own video-enabled cables yet (you can't find them in Apple retail stores and they're backordered for weeks on the Apple store.com).
My screen is mounted straight (In fact I haven't personally seen any crooked ones), and I've started subscribing to video podcasts and have been very impressed with the viewing quality on the 2" display. It's not that much smaller than the Classic, and though I would have loved the larger iPod Touch display, I just couldn't justify double the price.
The included games are okay. I probably wouldn't buy any new ones since the Nano is so small and the touchwheel is so low on the iPod that it cramps my hand to use it for extended time needed for a game, but that's just me.
I've heard the coverflow has issues on the Nano. But so far, I haven't encountered either the problem with coverflow lag or cover jumbling. As far as I can tell, since I've populated all the relevent track tages in iTunes they seem to group as expected for all my music.
Probably the second thing I'd criticize the Nano on would be the storage capacity. I was hoping for 10-16GB when Steve announced them. 8GB is a bit cramped for anyone who seriously wants to utilize it for music, photos and videos in my opinion. But I think I'll give iTunes synchronization a try and see how it goes (I've always managed my prior iPod manually) as far as maintaining a fresh source of podcasts to keep me interested.
Overall. The sound quality seems great. I'm not hyper-sensitive, so I don't hear any extra hiss in the audio at all. Though I've read that there are some audio-dropout problems once you start sync'ing photos onto the Nano (but I haven't gotten around to installing photos yet)
I'm sure there will be more software updates for the Nano in the future, I wish Apple provided some way to customize the view when an audio track is playing. I'd much rather have more song info displayed along with a head-on square view of the cover art, but I'd be surprised if any significant interface changes like that are ever introduced.
I must say, the Nano looked a bit odd when I first saw it online, but in person, it's really the nicest tiny iPod ever in my opinion.
