I'm having a strange problem with itunes Match (as do many apparently)

In several instances, I have individual songs within an album that has been matched that are showing as ineligible. How to fix? I have two Apple IDs authorized on my computer (my wife's and mine) but that shouldn't explain individual songs that have been purchased as a part of an album not being eligible. All my software is updated. Fairly irritated by this and have been doing the usual solutions: updating iTunes Match, individually trying to add to iCloud, restarting iTunes…any help would be appreciated.

There are two ways to "fix" it:
1. Ignore it. Really - it's not hurting anything. You can just turn off the column that shows whether it's matched or uploaded, and you won't see it anymore.
2. If these are songs that you purchased from iTunes, you can delete your current track (make sure you check the option to delete from the cloud too, and obviously make sure you have a backup copy just in case something goes wrong) then go to the iTunes store, into the "purchased" section, and redownload the purchase. The newly downloaded version will then match. (But do not try to jump between AppleIDs - you'll end up locked out for 90 days).
For songs that you did not buy from Apple, the only option is to ignore it. Matching is imprecise, Apple can only compare against what's currently in their store and that may have been re-digitized or reprocessed in some subtle way that means it's no longer the exact same edition of the song that you have - even though to your ears and eyes they are identical.

  • I am having 2 big problems with itunes match / icloud - i welcome any advice!

So I finally have all my music itunes match / icloud and for the most part I am satisfied but I have 2 huge glaring problems I can't seem to fix. I emailed Apple and awaiting a reply but not holding out much hope there...
    1. Compliation don't work right via itunes match / icloud - I have a few large compilations albums & they display correct on my local itunes library. I have the tags set right, I have normalized the album artists, made sure my genre's are clean, etc. but when I let this match / upload to itunes match / icloud - my compilations are repeated via icloud many times. I have a large compilations called "singles" & it displays perfect on my local itunes. But via icloud it's listed 5 times. I have tripled checked my tags and reset them again and again. No matter what I do, I can't get my compliation abums to show up just a single time in my icloud list.
Th problem is now that I am allowing my iphone and ipad's music to be managed by itunes match / icloud, these compliations are showing up on those devices 3-5 times for each. So my album list is one huge jumble of repeated Albums.
    Any advice??
    2. Album artwork missing - On my local itunes, I have good album artwork for all albums, but when I let these match and upload via itunes match / icloud, several albums lose their artwork when displaying or downloading to my IOS devices. So I end up with a lot of blank songs / albums. Also very annoying.
So, on the whole I like the itunes match / icloud service, but I really wish I could figure out how to solve these two problems. Any advice?

If you have not already done so, I suggest set an Album Artist of "Various Artists" and make sure the "part of a compilation" option is selected in the metadata for the album. See if that helps the display.

Do a search on the forum. There are already several threads discussing this issue.

I don't know what you mean by this. Do you mean you can't figure out how to get off that screen? Click the "done" button.
This is just to say that I managed to sync with iTunes Match, in my other notebook I can not do the songs appear.

You're connection the iTunes Match servers is offline. That's why the songs are greyed out and the cloud icon has the horozontal lines in it. Quit iTunes, wait a few seconds, re-launch the application and wait until the tracks are no longer greyed out and you will be able to download them.
    That part you answered, thanks.
How often iTunes Match is off? Sometimes?

  • Problem with iTunes Match and the song "This will be (an everlasting love)" from Natalie Cole

    Hello,
I'd like to report a problem with iTunes Match and Natalie Cole's song "This will be (an everlasting love)".
When I stream it or download it on another device I don't get Natalie Cole's song but another one from Maxine Nightingale (Right back where we started from).
Please tell me if you have the same problem or how I can report this problem to apple.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
This is a user to user forum - not Apple. Contact them http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/

  • Numerous problems with iTunes Match and synching.

I've been having problem after problem after problem in the wake of subscribing to iTunes Match.
    1) iTunes unable to accurately determine how much space is being used on iPod harddrive (says harddrive is overcapacity by ridiculous amount of gigabites).
    2) Multiple matched songs unable to load to iPod. I count 27 songs that are faulty. I've had to delete songs in iTunes and re-download them.
    3) Songs showing up multiple times on iPod. Even some albums are showing up twice.
This is seriously the most faulty Apple service / software upgrade I have ever had the misfortune of testing. I've deleted my iPod once thinking maybe it was just a faulty backup. No, it's just something inherent in the latest iTunes/iPod software upgrade or maybe it's something wrong with iTunes Match.
Bottom line: things aren't working as smoothly as they are supposed to.

I agree! I simply made a short playlist on my iPad, and a few minutes later, it had been duplicated 16,000 times on iPhone, iPad, and desktop Mac. It took a trip to apple store to correct. I had to turn itunes match off and then on again on each device. However it is recurring now just a few days later without me even making a new playlist.
I too have had trouble with being unable to play MANY songs that have matched on my devices. Artwork that is present on the computer isnt going to other devices. Random crashes on iDevices.
This product REALLY isnt ready for prime time. As an Apple fan-boy, I'm embarassed. C'mon Apple.

  • I have a problem with iTunes Match...

...and not like an 'oh man, this bolt's too big for this hole' problem, more of a 'hey man, if you don't stop doing that then you and me gona have a problem' problem.
For starters, I found that enabling the iTunes Match service means that I can't manually synch any files or playlists to my device.  So when I travel to an area without wifi or phone signal, which happens more than Apple obviously thinks, I can't listen to any of my music. Whose bright idea was that??!
Secondly, when I do enable iTunes Match, I often find that changes I make on my computer (shuffling the order of songs on playlists, adding new files to my library etc.) don't always correlate with the Match service, for instance I made a playlist on my computer but it doesn't appear on my phone, or I set a playlist on iTunes to order itself by the date the files were added, but on my phone they appear in whatever order they **** well please.  It unfortunately doesn't 'just work'.
And thirdly, although this isn't really connected to the Match service but rather just a chance for me to vent as I'm already doing it, when I heard they were bringing 'wifi synching' to iOS I was really excited. Then I found out it would only synch while your iDevices were plugged in and charging.  THEN I found out that every time I plugged my phone in it would automatically try to synch, waking up my laptop if it wasn't already awake. So every night I would plug my phone in by my bed, turn over to go to sleep, then have to get up 20 seconds later to re-sleep my machine; this could happen at random points during the night.
I'm not expecting Apple to change their products over the dissatisfaction of one disgruntled user, I'm just wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same problems and has found any ways around them.  Also I must say as annoying as certain aspects of iTunes Match are, it's still a fantastic service (in theory...).

    peanutismint wrote:
I hope they manage to fix the playlists issue, hopefully by the next couple of updates.  I figured the syncing/waking thing would be what it was meant to do.  I wonder if there's a command line or something I can tweak in settings to stop my Mac waking on LAN/Bluetooth etc....
In System Prefs > Energy Saver > Power Adapter unselect the option for "wake for network access." Although this may have the effect of preventing wireless syncing. I'm not sure.
    peanutismint wrote:
The downloading of songs is pretty much useless as a feature in my situation, as by the time you're out of signal and can't stream music, neither can you download it (and if I were expected to download it first in case of signal loss then doesn't that negate the need for a streaming music service anyway?!)
iTunes Match doesn't stream to iOS devices, all songs are downloaded. If you have not done so, you can enable "use cellular data" to download music by going to Settings > Store and setting the option to ON. To answer your question, though, yes, pre-downloading of tracks is the "best practice" for using an iDevice with iTunes Match enabled.

  • HT204406 Problem with iTunes match cutting off a song on my iPhone, not Mac or PC

I have purchased the Katy Perry album "Prism" outside of iTunes and matched it with iTunes match. When I try to play the first song "Roar" on my iPhone, it plays only part of it and then cuts off and plays the second song.  This only happens on my iPhone, when I use iTunes match to play the song on either my mac or PC using iTunes, the song plays fine without any issues.
I've tried turning off iTunes match, and then starting it again, no luck.  I powered off, then on my iPhone, no luck.  I've downloaded the song out of the cloud and still has the same problem... anybody have this problem too or can help?

    Some additional observations:
When I look at the album, the song "Roar" has a length of "2:05", but once I play the song by pressing it, the song begins playing and the slider shows a length of 3:39 (close to the correct length).  However, once it hits 2:03, it stops and starts playing the next song.
Interestingly, using iTunes on my mac, the song in the album view shows "2:04" but once I double-click the song, the length changes to "3:43", but plays the complete song without any problems.

  • I am having a strange problem with the awesome bar

The awesome bar/location bar is no longer as awesome as it used to be. When I start typing in an address it seems like it no longer checks through my history and gives a list of possible matches but just gives the stem of an address. For example, if I type in 'goo' it will complete this to 'google.com' if I then append this with an '/a' it will complete this to 'google.com/analytics' but that's as good as it gets, as I say, no list from the history or bookmarks.
I've checked the options and also about:config and all the settings are as they should be, as far as I can tell (and I certainly hadn't changed any of them when it started misbehaving). I've also disabled all extensions and plug-ins.
It's driving my slightly bonkers because I quite often use sites with long addresses and can't remember each of the components of each address. I'd switch to using Chrome but I also use Firebug a fair bit so don't really want to do this.

Hi cowtan, <br/>Sorry you are having problems with the awesome bar.
I imagine the new behaviour may be reversed by changing some pref but I have not looked that up.
Regardless of the new behaviour you seem to have some fault as my awesomebar still gives bookmarked items.
As a troubleshooting step try adding an asterisk in the awesomebar (as first character or anywhere) that should then filter the results in the dropdown list to bookmarked only items, does that work ?
    * see [[Search your bookmarks, history and tabs with the Awesome Bar#w_changing-results-on-the-fly]]_changing-results-on-the-fly
You possibly have some extension interfering with the awesome bar, try Firefox in safe mode (but do NOT* at this stage try the Reset Firefox option)
<nowiki>*</nowiki>'''edit''' - personal opinion, if a user; such as you; is knowledgeable enough to use ''about.config'' the easy solution of ''FirefoxReset ''is probably not the best route, as it can have unwanted side effects that are avoidable.
    * [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode]]
Do your bookmarked items appear in safe mode ?
<u>Try a new Profile.</u><br/>The best method for troubleshooting this will be to set up a new Firefox profile, you can then: experiment, troubleshoot, alter settings or extensions installed in that profile without changing and potentially damaging your current profile.
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_Manager#Creating_a_new_profile
I suggest to prevent unexpected problems you
    * use a sensible name such as test 2012 for the profile name
    * ensure an empty folder is used & do not then rename or delete the new profile (instead add or delete shortcuts to it)

  • Having a BIG problem with iTunes.

I don't usually update my iTunes software all that often, I am of the school of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" and frankly was satisfied with my current version.  Anyway, to avoid seeing the continuing annoying messages that a new update was availabie, I went ahead and upgraded.  Shortly after this upgrade, iTunes dumped my whole library of over 11,000 songs.  I've restored my library from my Master Music Library, which I update often, on my hard drive.  After a few days, it dumped everything again.  I then restored everything back to the library from the Master Library once again.  This was 2 weeks ago, and everything looked stable and I thought the problem was finally solved.  Well, lo and behold, I go to power up my laptop yesterday and start the iTunes program and it has once again dumped the entire library of songs.   I've about given up and just resort to playing my iPod (160GB, software version 2.0.4), through the iTunes program.  BTW, I never encountered this problem until this software upgrade.  Why is it doing this and how can I get iTunes to quit dumping the whole library?

hmm if it isnt working with itunes a temporary fix for the new one is download real player go to www.real.com and download the program its similar to itunes but it's wat i was using when my itunes was acting screwy but also try to update your ipod

  • I am having alot of problems with itunes, including a "connection timed out" error CONSTANTLY. Any suggestions?

My iTunes has always been a huge pain no matter what ive done. It runs slowly in general, freezes up every now and then, and when trying to restore my iPod touch 4g, i need to download a software update, which is impossible, due to the fact that every time i try i get a "Network connection timed out" message. I have also had the issue of my account locking me out twice now in a very short period of time, and i have no idea why. It says for security reasons, but ive changed passwords and everything.
I would like to know if an update is comming soon to make things smoother, because ive long since lost patience with iTunes.

If you are getting a network timeout error when downloading an iOS update then try temporarily turning off all your firewall and antivirus software until the download has completed.
In terms of whether an update is coming, we are just fellow users on here so we won't know when the next update might be, and what might or might not be in it.

  • Having a major problem with iTunes!!

My nan decided to use my laptop as I got a new one and it was better than hers. My old iTunes library was on there and she deleted all the files and the content on both the library and the laptop. She then logged into her apple ID account through itunes but none of her tracks are coming up. She has recently bought songs from her phone using the same iTunes account and it's not coming up on the library. I told her that she could have deleted all her files as well as mine and recent purchases might not even be on there. I don't exactly know what she's done and I think she's completly messed up her account :/
If anyone could help me out with this and whether you need more detail about this as its a bit conplicated and confusing. She doesn't know what she's deleted; she just deleted everything from all the files to make the computer "brand new". She obviously has never heard of a factory reset.
Thanks and I hope you can help!
because i am posting this through my account - the apple product i have selected has nothing to do with this question
she is using a windows laptop not a macbook

    Hi saff.tropical,
Happy Holidays!  Congratulations on the purchase of your new computer. It's nice of you to pass on your old computer to your nan.  If I'm understanding your question, your nan has an older Windows notebook computer, your newer Windows notebook computer, and an iPhone -- is that right?
The first thing I would suggest is that she create a new User Account on the notebook computer you just gave to her.   Next, if she doesn't have a backup of her iTunes music library from her old computer, she should create one on an external drive.
Finally, she can copy the music from the external drive to her "new" computer.
I'll include some resources below that will explain this in a little more detail.

    Create a new user account
By creating a new user account, you can determine if the issue affects a specific Windows user account or all accounts. Follow the steps below to create a new user account in Windows Vista or Windows 7:
    Choose Start > Control Panel.
Open "Add or remove user accounts." (If you're using the Classic view in Windows Vista, open "User Accounts," and then open "Manage another account.")
Select "Create a new account" and follow the instructions to set up the account.
Once you create the new account, choose Start > Log Off.
Log in to the new user account.
How to move your iTunes library to a new computer - Apple Support
    http://support.apple.com/en-us/HT4527
    Before you begin
Make a new backup of your iTunes library or update your existing backup before you move it. Even if you already have a backup of your iTunes library, this step makes sure you capture any changes and makes the process easier.
    Migration
If you want to move your library to a new Mac, you can migrate your data from another Mac or a PC. If you are replacing your PC, you might be able to use Windows Easy Transfer. This option might be slower than other options, but it's more thorough.
    Use an external drive
If you're using this method on a Mac:
From the Finder menu, choose Preferences.
Make sure that the boxes next to "External disks" and "Hard disks" are enabled.
    Part 1: Install iTunes
Download and install the latest version of iTunes.
Part 2: Move any new content
If you’ve used iTunes on your new computer, move your media to a new folder. This will keep anything you added to your new computer separate from your old library. These files can be added back to your library in Part 4.
Move your iTunes Media folder (Mac)
Move your iTunes Media folder (Windows)
Part 3: Copy the iTunes backup from your old computer
To copy all of your media files, including the library file that holds all your playlists and other settings, to your new computer:
Locate the following folder on your new computer.
Mac: Choose Go > Home from the Finder menu bar. Double click the Music folder.
    Windows XP: Navigate to \Documents and Settings\username\My Documents\My Music\.
    Windows Vista: Navigate to \Users\username\Music\iTunes.
    Windows 7 and Windows 8: Navigate to \Users\username\My Music\iTunes.
Drag the iTunes folder in this location onto the desktop.
Mac: From the Music folder to the Desktop:
Windows: From the My Music folder to the Desktop:
Locate the external drive on your new computer:
    Mac: On the desktop.
Windows: In My Computer or Computer.
Double-click the external drive icon to open it.
Drag the iTunes folder from your external drive to the Music folder (Mac) or My Music Folder (Windows) on your new computer. The transfer might take a while if you have a lot of content.
Mac: From the external drive to the Music folder:
Windows: From the external drive to the Music library:
    Open iTunes.
You've now moved all of your music, playlists, and other information—including play counts and ratings—from your old computer to your new one.
Part 4 (optional): Add back new content
Copy the iTunes Media folder you created in Part 2 into the "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder inside the iTunes Media folder you copied in Part 3. iTunes will automatically import the content.
    Use iTunes in the Cloud
If you don’t have a backup of your iTunes library and your old computer is unavailable, you can download past purchases made with your Apple ID through iTunes in the Cloud.
If you have multiple Apple IDs, you might find it easier to transfer purchases from a device after authorizing your new computer with your Apple ID.
If you previously subscribed to iTunes Match, you can turn on iTunes Match once your new computer is authorized.
    After you transfer your library
If you plan to stop using your old computer, deauthorize it by choosing Store > Deauthorize This Computer from the iTunes menu bar.
If you used iTunes on your old computer to back up your iOS device, back up your devices on your new computer or manually transfer the backups from your old computer. Learn more about creating and deleting iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch backups in iTunes.
If you used iCloud with your old computer for syncing, set up iCloud on your new computer.
If you will continue to use your old computer, recreate your iTunes library. This prevents an iOS device from seeing the old computer as the new one because of the old library files.

  • I am having problems with iTunes Match on Apple TV.

The music is there but there are no album covers. I tried resetting and restarting Apple TV and even turned iTunes Match off and on again but no luck. Can anyone help?

  • Problems with iTunes match

I'm having problems with my iTunes account in my Macbook. None of the music I have in the cloud is accessable to me. A few days ago I tried to update music on my iPod and instead of adding music it erased almost everything on it. After that much of my music collection was grey. I tried all sorts of things, such a reinstalling iTunes and nothing helped. I asked today in the Apple store and an employee there suggested I de-authorize and then re-authorize the computer. The sum result now being that none of my music in the cloud is visible. Strangely enough, I can still see and play the music from my iPad and iPhone. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Karl

I had a similar problem in the first 2 days after IOS 7 was released. iTunes Match would not update, and previously matched tunes showed "waiting". After many attempts to resolve the problem... Re authorizing my computer, numerous forced updates iTunes Match... the problem has resolved itself. As of Sept. 22, all functions have returned to normal. Playlists and artwork for 110G working, and access able from all my devices.

  • Problems with iTunes Match since 5.1 iPhone update?

Since the most recent iPhone update I've had nothing but problems with my iPhone 4's music player, which I presume are being caused by iTunes Match.  The service really was not ready for primetime and has been mostly a headache, but the 5.1 update made it exponentially worse.
I've had the following problems:  iTunes on iPhone 4 frequently will not play the songs I select.  The track remains at 0:00 and I often have to force quit iTunes to play anything else.  The phone frequently skips songs at random and goes on to the next track or another track.  Selected songs play as other songs off an album or playlist and do not match up with their cover art.  The phone rarely plays more than two songs in a row without encountering some problem.
I've tried restoring the phone, turning iTunes match off and on, and completely disabiling it.  When I did that, the phone wouldn't play ANYTHING!
Do you guys have any solutions?  I've tried to go to genius bar but there's always a huge line even with appointments and I doubt they'll be helpful.
    Thanks!

I am having the exact same problems.  Most songs not playing, some skipping to the next song, song indexing out of order.  Match is becoming a miserable experience..
